Peter The Great Influence On Russian Government
Russian Government (Early Modern Age)
The government ruled through the Romanov Dynasty, and the GREATEST rulers were Peter the
GREAT and Catherine the GREAT (ha, see what I did there...)
Peter the Great
1689 1725
Use of MIlitary/ Boyars:
As an autocrat, Peter the Great harshly put down rebellions and also created a secret police to help
maintain order. Peter built Russia s first navy with the help of western European countries. Peter
waged wars against the Ottoman Empire, turning out to be mainly unsuccessful. There was also a
Great War with Sweden. With these wars came Peter s prospect of expanding his empire through
the acquisition of new territory and access to the Baltic Sea.
Boyars nobles with the highest rank besides a prince played a part in Russian government, but soon

But Peter censored certain western ideals that would threaten his power as a tsar such as the
Enlightenment and the idea of a Parliamentarian government.
Labor:
Another Western idea that didn t make its way to Russia was paid labor Russia was still
implementing the system of serfdom, so extreme that it could barely be distinguished with
slavery... serfs could be bought and sold, and there were often horrible working conditions due to
the landowners increasing powers over serfs. It was impossible to escape serfdom as it was a
hereditary status. Peter didn t implement any changes in labor, despite Western change of serfdom
to paid labor.
Arts:
Peter encouraged learning and education. When St. Petersburg was built, the capitol was moved

POP ART: Promoting Capitalism Through its Social Movement Viewpoint
Pop Art is portrayed by procedures and topics drawn from mainstream mass culture like comic
books, promotions, and ordinary social articles. This movement is broadly deciphered as a response
to the thoughts of unique expressionism. Pop Art proposed to utilize pictures of prominent rather
than elitist culture in workmanship, accentuating the commonplace components of any given
culture, as a rule using incongruity. This paper analyzes the socially and stylishly subversive
character of the development that changed American art and culture in the 1960s. Giving a
generally contextualized perusing of American pop craftsmanship, this paper finds the development
inside the bigger system more of the social rather than political changes of that decade. What was
truly in question, this paper contends that pop art seeks to instil with good intention that through
such social movement elevates the bleak reality of capitalism.
Pop art is a craftsmanship development that rose in the 1950s and prospered in the 1960s, taking
motivation from sources in prominent and business culture, for example, publicizing, Hollywood
motion pictures and popular music ( Pop Art Around the World ).
It started as a rebel against the overwhelming ways to deal with craftsmanship and culture and
conventional perspectives on what art could (and should) be. Drawing on well known symbolism

Dwight D. Eisenhower Research Paper
Introduction
D. Eisenhower was a prominent US army commander during the Second World War. After the
Second World War, he left the army to be the president of the Columbia University. He was later
nominated as the Republican candidate for the presidential election of 1952 which he won to
become the 34th president of the United States (Dwight, 1960). During his administration, the cold
war between the US, Russia, and China was quite intensive but despite that, his administration was
able to thrive. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a behind the scene president and stayed out of politics
which made him not so famous in the past but in the recent decades, his reputation has become
prominent. His absence out of politics made most people perceive that he ... Show more content on

The American Revolution And The Revolution
The American Revolution, think you know everything about? You don t, as much as the soldiers
that fought had a lot of courage, it was the members of the Culper spy Ring that had the most to do
with the victory the Americans had over the British, in the American Revolution. It was ordinary
citizens that saved the revolution and don t get credit for it. Espionage, intelligence was the key to
winning the revolution. With the help of spies, invisible ink, misinformation, codes, ordinary
citizens, including women, and lots of courage the members of the Culper Spy Ring saved the
revolution and helped the founding of America.

England, who had created a chemical solution out of tannic acid to be used as an invisible ink, it
was unknown to most. An advantage because it would ve been unknown to the British officers if
the contrecepted some correspondence. It was difficult to make and George Washington himself
instructed his agents in the use of what was referred to as the sympathetic stain, noting that the
ink will not only render. . .communications less exposed to detection, but relieve the fears of such
persons as may be entrusted in its conveyance. Washington recommended the spies to use the
ink, on the blank leaves of a pamphlet. . . a common pocket book, or on the blank leaves at each
end of registers, almanacks, or any publication or book of small value. Another, more common
way to use invisible ink in letter, was to write between the lines and the receiver would use heat in
order to read the letter, but with the new ink you would need another chemical solution to see the
message.
While Washington is known for his honesty, he was okay with spreading misinformation, when it
came to fighting the revolution. He told the members of the Culper Ring to exaggerate the fire
power and size of American forces, in their conversations with the loyalists of New York.
Washington would get his hands dirty too,

Classical Liberalism V.S. Reform Liberalism on the issue of Wealth Redistribution and Income
Classical Liberalism is against government interventionism in all realms of life. They believe that
everyone should be treated equally regardless of income. This differs from reform liberalism, as
they want government intervention to guarantee equality of opportunity. This is made possible by
progressive income tax, government regulation on big business, and social welfare. In My opinion
Classical Liberalism is superior as its fair and easier to implement than reform Liberalism.

The Classical Liberalist, would oppose any regulation on the economy. As they believe that those
who are able to make money based on the principle of supply and demand already have helped the
welfare of other in the process. Classical Liberalist s understand inequality as an inevitable result
of free competition, and actually see it as beneficial in the long run as capital is reinvested, to
create new technology, employment and opportunities. If this capital were to be taxed heavily
instead, many opportunities and jobs would be lost further adding to the inequality of wealth and
opportunity for the poor.
The biggest difference s between the set s of ideologies is that Reform Liberalism believes in
equality of opportunity, and that it is ethical to reduce the freedom for some if it means increasing
it for others. Classical Liberalist s believe that the invisible hand will regulate the economy and that
any wealth redistribution to the poor would harm them in the long run. They believe that everyone
should be completely in control of their own destiny. I think that Classical Liberalism is the
superior theory as it sticks to very simple principles, and it hold everyone responsible for their
actions.

How Peoples Army of Vietnam Was Able to Defeat French at...
The People s Army of Vietnam was able to defeat the French in the first Indo china war due a
variety of reasons. It was a combination of Vietnam s strong sense of nationalism, strong leadership
led by Ho Chi Minh and Vo Nguyen Giap, the Viet Minh s strengths and military tactics and the
weaknesses of the French which would contribute to the Viet Minh victory at Dien Bien Phu.
Vietnam s strong sense of nationalism was a major contributor why Vietnam was able to defeat the
French in Indochina. Nationalism united the majority of Vietnam in the quest for independence. It
also gave the Vietnamese population the determination and inspiration to defeat the French. This is

This is shown through a French Foreign Legionnaire Henry Ainley reflecting on the war saying
The Viet Minh were everywhere and nowhere. It was impossible to pin them down which conveys
the French frustrations and how effective guerrilla warfare was to the Viet Minh. However, Vo
Nguyen Giap also used conventional warfare as he knew he could not defeat the French with
guerrilla tactics alone. This was evident in the battle of Dien Bien Phu.
The battle of Dien Bien Phu was significant in the first Indochina war as the defeat here led to the
surrender of the French on the 7th may 1954. In the battle of Dien Bien Phu General Vo Nguyen
Giap was lured here by the French in an attempt to fight the Viet Minh in open battle, as the
French General Navarre believe his superior weapons and his troops would successfully defend
the area and seriously weaken the Viet Minh. While Giap attacked the French here for two reasons
to protect their access to food supplies and because he believed an attack would result in defeat for
the French in Indochina.
In Dien Bien Phu there were several reasons why the French were defeated. The French were
being fired down upon in the valley, giving a heavy advantage to the Viet Minh. Another vital
reason was because Viet Minh forces destroyed the French airstrip early, consequently only way
supplies could be brought in

The Levels Of Hierarchy Of Needs
Motivation is defined as the general desire or willingness of someone to do something.
Numerous incidents occur in our lives where we are motivated and numerous incidents occur
where we lack any motivation. As I am a full time student and not currently working, I chose to
write this paper on my motivation to finish my education and attain a higher level degree in
health care. According to Abraham H. Maslow s Theory, there are five levels of hierarchy of
needs. During the first level, we are dealing with our physiological needs which are the basic
needs of survival. I am fortunate enough to be living a life where I have access to water, food,
and shelter. During the second level, we are dealing with our safety needs. I attain my safety from...

Steve Reiss s Theory and idea of status states that status is attained through the desire for
prestige. It also means that a person is very conscious about reputation and how they are viewed
by those around them. I am an Indian who believes in the Indian caste system. The caste system
is a class structure that everyone is born into. In the Indian culture, life is dominated by the caste
system. I was born to a mother and a father who were both born into the upper levels of the caste
system. This means that my parents enjoyed a life of high materialistic value. Those in the upper
class also valued the importance of education because those who had prestigious college degrees
were the ones who were highly respected. This component of my culture has been passed down
to me and these are the values that I live with today. I want to continue to earn the respect of my
family and those in the Indian community by going on to earn my PhD. There are positive and
negative components of the Indian caste system, but it is a custom and a practice that has been
followed for centuries. There are many periods in our lives where we lack motivation. Using Steven
Reiss s Theory, and his idea of order, I am able to recall the multiple times I have lost a sense of
motivation. Steven Reiss s Theory and idea of order states that a person dislikes clutter because

F. Scott Fitzgerald s Big Two-Hearted River
Intro Notes for Big Two Hearted River
Remember that the fictional character Nick Adams is closely based on Hemingway himself. Like
Hemingway, Nick spent countless enjoyable hours as a child in the Michigan woods fishing,
hunting, and camping with his dad, a doctor. Also like Hemingway, Nick saw action in WWI,
where he was physically and psychologically wounded.
As Big Two Hearted Riveropens, Nick has recently returned home after the war. Troubled by his
war experiences and having difficulty adjusting to normal life again, Nick does something that
makes perfect sense: He returns to the familiar wilderness where he and his dad shared so many
good times when Nick was young and innocent. He plans to fish for trout, but the real purpose of
his trip is to find some solace and tranquility to help him heal from his war trauma. Today we
would say he has PTSD; this fishing trip serves as his self prescribed therapy. (Remember the
whole Lost Generation concept?)
In the Bedford introduction to the story, F. Scott Fitzgerald is quoted as saying, It is the account of
a boy on a fishing trip he hikes, pitches his tent, cooks dinner, sleeps, and next morning casts for
trout. Nothing more but I read it with the most breathless ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Most of the story appears to consist of the mundane details of a lone man on a fishing trip, yet it
compels you to keep reading. As you should expect from a Hemingway story, we see his iceberg
theory at work. There s a lot of meaning hidden beneath the surface of the details of hiking,
camping, and fishing, and a perceptive reader will find much to contemplate in this narrative.
Here s one example: Nick hops off the train near the town of Seney, a familiar place for Nick. But
something is wrong. A fire has destroyed the town, leaving a blackened, devastated landscape
behind. Literary critics see this as symbolic of the damage Nick has sustained from the war. The
fire, like the war, is over now, but the devastation

Cyrano De Bergerac Stereotypes
It has been said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the protagonist in the play by

beautifully tragic hero in this story of loveand deception.

unquestionably correct sources and also by using the clergymen s own words against them. The
Bible, Socrates, and Martin Luther are just a few of the sources quoted in his letter, which
subvert any criticism of his actions. The Bible is the most potent of his sources because the

The Case Of The American Legal System
The question what is law?, is important to understand law and to the extent to which particular
institutions have been accorded power to make or pronounce law. It is important for lawyers,
policymakers, politicians and those working in the field of social science academia to understand
that the meaning and the scope of law exceeds the basic premises of assumption that law is what
the legislature passes as a statute, or law is what a court applies, etc. because that is the way our
political order is constructed, etc. Since laws takes various forms, a legal system is needed to

Madison exemplifies that understanding . Since the US legal system is based on federalism. The
Tenth Amendment of the U.S constitution shift the power and legal authority away from the states
and towards the federal government. The federal government gains more power over the state but
there is a certain jurisdiction of boundaries that the federal can exercise their power over the state.
The law deals with the fundamental principles by which the federal government exercises its
authority. In the American constitutional system, the authority of government is defined, limited,
and distributed by the fundamental law of the United States Constitution. The U.S constitution is a
body of written basic law and is superior to and takes precedence over all ordinary acts of Congress
and state legislatures and over all decision and actions of the executive branches of the national and
state government. That s why it divides the national government into three branches legislative,
executive and judicial. This will separate the power of the branches of the government and at the
same time check and balances the actions of other branches. Constitution law is most often

Desertification As A Global Problem
Desertification is defined by the UN as the persistent degradation of dryland ecosystems by human
activities, including unsustainable farming, mining, overgrazing and clear cutting of land and by
climate change ( Desertification ). Desertification can also be defined as a process that reduces
biological productivity and the intensification of desert conditions (Hellden 372). Although less
publicized, desertificationis an issue that requires international cooperation as the victims of drought

land degradation neutral world by 2030.
Part 2: Desertification Challenges
Desertification is an environmental problem difficult to address due to its wide definition and
extensive forms of manifestation. According to Warren, the inadequacies of the definitions of
desertification, even among the scientific community, has led to a credibility gap and a dismissal of
the issue relative to other environmental problems (12). Secondly, there are logistical issues, as
sustainably managing dry lands would involve a bottom up approach and the inclusion of local
populates affected by desertification in the decision making process (13). Implementation of the
convention was also complicated by the use of National Action Programmes (NAPs), which
required identification of causes and solutions to desertification in each country, large research

The story is a flashback of roughly 45 60 minutes of his life. The narrator looks back at that special
episode of his life and he turns all nostalgic.
The boys are strongly inspired by war movies and war stories told by the elderlies. The narrator has
received a toy gun from his granddad. He knows a lot about it because of his big interest in war. As
almost every other boy, they play games with guns and death involved. The problem is not that the
boys play war, but that they cannot differentiate between where the fun stops. In this game Gavin
almost killed himself, but it was not on purpose. A problem is, when the mom notices Gavin, she
immediately saves him. Then she slaps the narrator. By slapping the narrator she punishes him for
something that he does not know is wrong. The narrator is angry, because they have to award
Gavin the price of the best death.
I would shock and shake them all with the violence of my going. But we never played the game
again.
Because his mother hit him and did not tell him what they did wrong, he does not understand
consequences. Therefore he still wants to win the game next time and he wants to put even more
violence in than Gavin did. Luckily they never played the game again, because nobody knows what
would have happened then.
This story is a perfect example to show that taking extra care of your children is highly necessary.
If you do not teach your kid what is dangerous and what is not, it will have serious consequences.

As a result, an increasing number of vehicles have sound proof design and acoustic surrounding
systems. However, when those in car appliances operate simultaneously, it can be difficult for
drivers to detect the approach of emergency vehicles such as ambulances, police, and fire fighting
trucks. This is one of the reasons why most accidents between emergency vehicles and motorists
happen at intersections [1]. Those collisions impede the emergency service travels from reaching
the destinations on time. In the United States, it is claimed that the most frequent emergency
service cases were about emergency vehicle crashes and patient handing mishaps [2].
Even though the emergency vehicles have implemented visual device, the visual warning
mechanism cannot take effect if the receivers are not facing towards the vehicle. Many collision
incidents indicate that drivers did not recognize the coming emergency vehicles with flashing
lights and they delayed the reflection of clearing roads in urban area [3]. It is not constrained to
elderly or hearing impaired drivers. Therefore, the audible warning siren is important to prevent

In todays world, it is so important to be able to judge the right form the wrong. All eyes are on us

We should always stay passionate and do what we care about but not worry about what happens.
There is something greater waiting for us at the end of our journey. We just need to stay patient

Hume related his philosophy to the game of Baseball. In the game of baseball huge and important
aspects of the game like hitting the ball or touching each base to ensure that you are safe seem
so arbitrary when you compare it to life. Touching a base is so simple and when you are not
actually playing baseball, is so irrelevant. This is one of Hume s very important lessons, we need

Jimmy Santiago Baca s Speech
Meaningful, powerful, thought provoking are only just a few words that can be used to
describe Jimmy Santiago Baca s writing. Baca s book titled, Spring Poems Along the Rio
Grande is a collection of short poems, which take readers on a journey through his spiritual union
and connection with nature, primarily a river. Through the use of his poems, Baca expresses his
hardship and struggles growing up in New Mexico while connecting his need to find spiritually in
nature and all it has to offer. Baca s spiritual journey can be seen through his use of personification,
metaphors and symbolisms. After reading Baca s book of short poems, it is apparent that he finds

Through personification, metaphors and symbolisms he s able to express himself eloquently.
The following lines from his short poem, I Have No Answers, symbolizes his connection with
nature and Christ. When people kneel reverently in church pews, when a million hands are
folding in prayers to the Lord...I pray to the halo lust of leaves, Christ...and everywhere I look, I
see the resurrection now He is this river water... (pg 61). Baca is trying to symbolize and connect
the idea that Christ is everywhere for him, he is not just in a church, he is also in nature, in the
river, in the leaves. The essence of Christ is all around and because he s found a spiritual
connection with nature he s able to experience this prosperity. In his short poem titled, Spring
Arrives, Baca is trying to symbolize the idea that if Christ is flowing through the river then he is
ready to allow Christ to enter his soul and receive forgiveness for his mistakes. Creator in the
form of a river flowing to the Gulf...breathe in me, fill my lungs, replenish my sight... (pg 9).
Throughout all of Baca s poems, the idea of accepting nature as a form of guidance is present
and it s a strong theme. Nature, is his savior and accepting it has allowed him to better himself and
find a way to block out all of his bad

How Does Rap Music Cause Racism
Title There will never be an N word at SAE these are the words that were chanted by a frat group
on a bus earlier this year. After hearing these racist words many were quick to point the finger
and blame it on hip hop. For years this particular genre of music has been the target for the
numerous acts of violence, and racism throughout the country. Could the explicit rap lyrics that
describes living in low income housing, poverty stricken neighborhoods, and violent communities
really promote such vicious acts? Or are their lyrics a form of art that is simply expressing the
eerie lifestyle many of them have lived before success? Although many believe hip hop is to blame
for the racism and violence in our country, the real source that should be held accountable are the
media and corporate executives of record labels..... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Technological Evolution in the Film Industry Essay
As times are changing, knowledge and information are also changing. With that, the development
of motion picture complexity has changed the film industry by a continuing technological
evolution. It is evident that films have changed significantly over the last 100 years. The
intricacy of filmmaking technology has rapidly progressed, allowing creative potential for
filmmakers. Films are often due to technological advances, or even to reintroduce a classic story.
Some examples of films that have been remade include Scarface (1932), remade in 1983, and The
Magnificent Seven (1960), remade in 1998. King Kong (1933) is another example of a filmthat has

The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the
actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over
the actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer Generated
Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the
narrative. Many of the sets were computer generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both
the actors and the computer generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene
where Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen,
and held by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite
image shows Kong holding her. Since chroma keying technology did not exist in the 1930 s, a full
sized, fur covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The
difference between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the
remake has displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film
more believable, and emphasise the story.
Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. In the original version of King
Kong, the film was shot in black and white. Sometimes there can be implications with interpreting
the emotions in the film. Colour in film is a huge

Oftentimes, new teachers are provided with little to no professional guidance, and because of that,
nearly fifty percent of teachers leave the classroom within the first five years. This turnover rate
not only has an impact on kids, since they lose the person they were connected with, but it also
costs the nation roughly 7.4 billion dollars a year. This video, which focuses on the Hillsborough
County Public School System, in Tampa, Florida, brings to light the importance of mentor teachers
for first and second year teachers. Through the gathering of evidence and classroom observations,
these mentor teachers provide the passion for new teachers and help to unlock their potential. Since
the implementation of the mentor program their retention of new teachers has gone from 72% to

Allusions In Dracula
Hidden in Bram Stoker s Dracula contains abundant amounts of allusions and social commentaries.
These rhetorical devices help connect the reader to the experience of the novel and allow them to
have a more in depth understanding of the characters, and usage of religious allusions abets the
reader in achieving that goal. In the worldwide masterpiece Dracula, Stoker uses religious,
mythical, and archetypical allusions to depict Dracula as a peculiar and distinct creature as well as
providing social commentary for current problems during the late Victorian era.

Many of the symbols in the novel are actually important social commentary during the late
Victorian period. For example, many religious objects Dracula shows weakness to shows the
chasm between the religions of Anglican and Catholic Church, as Crucifixes, communion wafers,
and convents are not, despite the bulk of critical attention reading them thusly, exclusively
Catholic (Bowles 2). Stoker is insinuating a possible mending of relations between the two
religions. Also, the usage of religions items shows that science that the West uses cannot usurp
Dracula; instead, the hero has to look into superstition for the cure. In this sense, science is
portrayed as a dangerous entity and many old, superstitious beliefs are reconsidered.
Simultaneously, Harker is seen as having a sense of condescending and untrustworthy attitude
towards the east and their superstition, as shown a crucifix he has been taught to regard such
things as in some measure idolatrous (Stoker 9). Stoker also seems ignorant of Eastern culture,
as he does not know the meaning of eve of St. George s Day (Stoker 9). Also, from the fact that
Roman Catholic populations within Ireland simply do not function in London , it is
understandable why Harker sees another religion in a negative light. (Bowles 1) In the real world,
Stoker is calling for reconciliation of religion, while in the novel, Stoker shows the reason Dracula
cannot die easily. By forcing to use other cultures and their teachings, Stoker shows how others

Current State Of Fuel And World Energy Demand
Current State of fuel World Energy Demand
Post 18th Century Industrial revolution has created a dependency on fossil fuels such as coal, oil
and natural gas for all technological and transportation demands that engineer modern society.
However. Such demands, and even their expected future demands threatens the overall worlds
energy supply and generates large strains on the environment. The Hydrogen economy article
published by Physics Today in December 2004 anticipated that the world energy demand will
double by 2050 in response to population growth and industrialisation of developing countries.
(Crabtree, Dresselhaus and Buchanan, 2004).
An article by Todd Woody of The Atlantic (Woody, 2013) has stated that developing countries will
account for 65% of the world s energy consumption by 2040. The majority of such consumption
being produced by non OCED nations such as India and China. This figure was published by the
United States Energy Information Administration. This can be summarised as a 2.2% annual
increase in fossil fuel usage in non OCED countries compared to that of 0.5% in OCED
communities such as some of the EU, North America and Australia. Figure 1.1 iProjected world

The Pros And Cons Of Legal Rules
Legal rules are ethical rules or norms, for every legal pattern of conduct can be expressed in a
proposition with the predicate ought to be . At the same time legal patterns of conduct are
supported by centralized power and its coordinating activity, and not merely by the mutual
social interaction which produces and reinforces the ethical group conviction[ Timasheff, 1939,
p. 15]. Timasheff based his conception of law as the union of ethics and power on four
propositions: 1) legal rules are recognized by group members; 2) legal rules are obeyed by group
members; 3) legal rules are recognized by the members of active power centers; and 4) legal rules
are supported by the members of active power centers[ Timasheff, 248]. Timaheff s second and...

Timasheff noted that modern jurists often deny the proposition that legal rules are obeyed. They
assert that legal rules are not commands, but directions for proper conduct. Timasheff rejected this
assertion on the ground that if legal rules are merely directions, they are indistinguishable from
friendly advice. The only way to make this important distinction, Timasheff argued, is by reference
to power structures: legal rules always express dominance and therefore, they are commands [
Timasheff 253]. Timasheff identified three specific motivations for obeying legal rules: the direct
imperative motivation, the direct attributive motivation, and the indirect motivation[ Timasheff
253]. For our purposes here, the first is the most pertinent. Timasheff contended that the roots,
instruments and forms of the direct imperative motivation to obey the law are exactly the same as
the roots, instruments and forms of obedience within power structures, i.e., dominance, submission,
unequal social interaction and power relationships[Timasheff,

Thucydides And The Peloponnesian War
Thucydides was born in 460 B.C.E in a noble family, which was linked to Athens and its leaders.
He was one of the greatest ancient Greek historians and author of the History of the Peloponnesian
War, in which he describes the struggle between Athens and Sparta. Thucydides was also interested
in the technical part of the war. He focused on the difficulties and possibilities in a war between the
powerful land force of Spartaalong its allies and the powerful naval force of Athens. He observed
that the strategic interaction of states followed a visible and repeated pattern.
According to him the relationship of states in a system is dependent on the hierarchal system they
have. Therefore he concluded that any alteration in the hierarchy of the powerful states would
extremely shake the structure of their system while any alteration in the status of the weak states
would make no difference to the system. Thucydides relates this conclusion to the Peloponnesian
War because he believed that the outbreak of war was a result of the change in their system as the

In my opinion this image of international relations Thucydides draws seems a bit two faced since
it is the lack of international relations that leads to a lack of central government, which then
creates an anarchic world. Thucydides focuses way too much on competitiveness over power and
strength and how it can cause conflict and war between to parties. He ignores the possibility that
opposing party s can learn to coexist by creating relations with each in order to gain interest from

Ceramics are found in the family of calcium phosphates. Ex. Tricalcium phosphates,
Hydroxyapatite, substitute apatite, biphasic system. They often have similar properties to the

also be considered bio absorbable. They avoid the formation of fibrous tissue, and encapsulation
of the implant, thus isolating it from the body system (this is a result of an immunological

to burn down his new boss s barn. In order to try and stop his father from burning down the barn
and to also stop having to lie on behalf of his father, innocent Sarty, warns the boss of his father s
plan, completely unaware of the danger this would put his father in. Ultimately, his father and
brother are killed and Sarty leaves the rest of his family behind. In Barn Burning, through his

He wasn t capable of providing for himself and didn t fully understand just what was going on in
the world around him. He looked to his father, Abner, although he wasn t the best role model, for
guidance. He was always watching his father closely to see how he was expected to react in
certain situations. For example, in the beginning of the story, at the trial that took place inside of
a convenience store, Sarty looked toward Abner when he was called forward to testify and he
knew that he [aimed] for [him] to lie... And [he would] have to do hit (189). Sarty also lied for his
father, even though he had an idea that it wasn t morally correct because his father had warned him
to do so. Sarty s childlike obedience to parental authority helps to reveal how strongly children are

The Irish Culture And The Person I Interviewed
Ireland is a country that is rich in culture, traditions, and faith. This country has struggled with over
time with famine, religious tension, and even freedom. Many individuals immigrated to America
in search of a better life. The person I chose to interview family came over to the United States
when Ireland was struggling with famine. They came over on a boat through New York and
changed there name to make it more American. For this paper I will further discuss the Irish culture
and the person I interviewed.
Description of the Person and Cultural Heritage
For a short time in Ireland many were faced with a hard decision due to the struggling with
starvation in a time of famine. With this hardship many made the difficult choice to leave their
country and seek refuge in the United States. The individual that I interview had family that lived in
County Cork, Ireland and they decided to make the journey to the United States in hopes of a
better life. Her Grandparents came to the United States through New York and changed their last
name by dropping the prefix to make it more American. They moved to Cleveland and her
grandfather was able to find work at chief Boyardee to support his family. Many traditions have
been passed down from generation to generation. Celebration St. Patrick s day was always an
important day for this family. This was a time to eat traditional Irish food, music, and Irish folk
dancing. The catholic faith is very important aspect of this

Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue
Section One: The Prologue 208 09 Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue is generally considered one
of her most vivid statements regarding her role in a Puritan society. This is a poem where she
reveals who she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions
on women s roles in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated
environment. In the first few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to
the task, unlike the work of men. This is implied when she mentions that Let Poets and Historians
set these forth. My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth. Bradstreet goes further and mentions
her lack of ability in writing and wishes she had the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the first lines of her poem she describes how a pilgrim reaches his goal. She references the
pilgrim as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping
to attain a dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able
to relate to her plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this
poem, Bradstreet uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey
a religious person is to take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has
ended, he no longer has to endure the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past,
and travails done. However, in order to reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like
leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn t have been able to accomplish his feat, and
therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later one Bradstreet contemplates how the
pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she herself wanted to be part of such
journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim, renouncing to the world in her way to
Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God. Bradstreet reminds others that while it is
not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth all the effort. She understands the
difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high among the blest. Although the
journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still many years before she
achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the Commandments and
struggling against the society she has been born in. Still, she continues her journey, weary, but
hoping for rest, until the day she completes her voyage to eternal life in

Values Ethics Case 1 Essay
Annet David Professor Koob Case 1 Massey Energy 1. What were the costs and benefits to
stakeholders of the actions taken by Massey Energy and its managers? The stakeholders include
everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by
Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to
his company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also
maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community
and his employees. Massey s employees barely had any benefits other than a relatively well paying
job to support their families, otherwise the list of costs that occurred to the employees... Show more

3. Who or what caused the Upper Big Branch mine disaster, and why do you think so? The
immediate cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a
spark which could not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited
a pocket of methane gas that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of
poor ventilation. This resulted in an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the
accumulation of flammable coal dust that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by
the MSHA. Although this was the immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe
Don Blankenship was largely responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship
had near total control over Massey Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he
had decisive impact over the culture, policies, and practices of the company. He directed a
management system that gave priority to productivity, which was running coal, over all other
concerns, including environmental impacts, worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a
hands on manager, he was completely and fully aware of everything that was going on in the
company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the
ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to

Antonio is concerned on what he wants to be when he is older, but he is once again torn
between two different paths. His mother dreams for him to be a priest or a farmer while his
father would like to send him to the llano, but he focuses on becoming a priest so much that he
doesn t seem to know what he truly wants to do. Along with being unsure about his future,
Antonio questions God and his Catholic values by asking questions such as, why does God
allow evil in the world and why is he not forgiving? He also starts to slowly idolize the Virgin
Mary and the golden carp that his friend showed him, making him wonder if being a priest is
what he really wants to do after all. Then there s Esperanza who s not sure of what she wants in
the future, but doesn t seem to worry about what she wants to be. She plans to leave Mango
Street and live in her dream house that isn t run down like the one she currently lives in. During
a palm reading with a fortune teller Esperanza is told to make a wish and her wish being the
house and leaving Mango Street. The palm reader realizes what her wish is and tells her, You
must remember to come back. For the ones who cannot leave as easily as you (Cisneros 105). This
makes Esperanza shocked as to how the palm reader figured her wish out and made her feel
ashamed for what she now believes is a

This movement is broadly deciphered as a response to the thoughts of unique expressionism. Pop Art proposed to utilize pictures of prominent rather than elitist culture in workmanship, accentuating the commonplace components of any given culture, as a rule using incongruity. This paper analyzes the socially and stylishly subversive character of the development that changed American art and culture in the 1960s. Giving a generally contextualized perusing of American pop craftsmanship, this paper finds the development inside the bigger system more of the social rather than political changes of that decade. What was truly in question, this paper contends that pop art seeks to instil with good intention that through such social movement elevates the bleak reality of capitalism. Pop art is a craftsmanship development that rose in the 1950s and prospered in the 1960s, taking motivation from sources in prominent and business culture, for example, publicizing, Hollywood motion pictures and popular music ( Pop Art Around the World ). Reform Liberalism on the issue of Wealth Redistribution and Income Classical Liberalism is against government interventionism in all realms of life. They believe that everyone should be treated equally regardless of income. This differs from reform liberalism, as they want government intervention to guarantee equality of opportunity. Classical Liberalist s understand inequality as an inevitable result of free competition, and actually see it as beneficial in the long run as capital is reinvested, to create new technology, employment and opportunities. If this capital were to be taxed heavily instead, many opportunities and jobs would be lost further adding to the inequality of wealth and opportunity for the poor. The biggest difference s between the set s of ideologies is that Reform Liberalism believes in equality of opportunity, and that it is ethical to reduce the freedom for some if it means increasing it for others. Classical Liberalist s believe that the invisible hand will regulate the economy and that any wealth redistribution to the poor would harm them in the long run. They believe that everyone should be completely in control of their own destiny. I think that Classical Liberalism is the superior theory as it sticks to very simple principles, and it hold everyone responsible for their actions. 3 Sources Dickerson, Mark, Thomas Flanagan, and O Neill Brenda. Like Hemingway, Nick spent countless enjoyable hours as a child in the Michigan woods fishing, hunting, and camping with his dad, a doctor. Also like Hemingway, Nick saw action in WWI, where he was physically and psychologically wounded. As Big Two Hearted Riveropens, Nick has recently returned home after the war. The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over the actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the narrative. Many of the sets were computer generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both the actors and the computer generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene where Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen, and held by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite image shows Kong holding her. Since chroma keying technology did not exist in the 1930 s, a full sized, fur covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The difference between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the remake has displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film more believable, and emphasise the story. Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. Stoker is insinuating a possible mending of relations between the two religions. Stoker also seems ignorant of Eastern culture, as he does not know the meaning of eve of St. George s Day (Stoker 9). At the same time legal patterns of conduct are supported by centralized power and its coordinating activity, and not merely by the mutual social interaction which produces and reinforces the ethical group conviction[ Timasheff, 1939, p. 15]. The only way to make this important distinction, Timasheff argued, is by reference to power structures: legal rules always express dominance and therefore, they are commands [ Timasheff 253]. Timasheff identified three specific motivations for obeying legal rules: the direct imperative motivation, the direct attributive motivation, and the indirect motivation[ Timasheff 253]. For our purposes here, the first is the most pertinent. With this hardship many made the difficult choice to leave their country and seek refuge in the United States. • 44. Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue Section One: The Prologue 208 09 Anne Bradstreet s The Prologue is generally considered one of her most vivid statements regarding her role in a Puritan society. This is a poem where she reveals who she is to her readers. Bradstreet is critical of those individuals who place restrictions on women s roles in society, especially in consideration of a female writer in a male dominated environment. In the first few stanzas Bradstreet talks about how her ability as a poet is not up to the task, unlike the work of men. This is implied when she mentions that Let Poets and Historians set these forth. My obscure lines shall not so dim their worth. Bradstreet goes further and mentions her lack of ability in writing and wishes she had the same... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first lines of her poem she describes how a pilgrim reaches his goal. She references the pilgrim as a symbol of determination and perseverance to be followed, especially when hoping to attain a dream. Being a pilgrim herself, and living in a Puritan society, her audience was able to relate to her plight and feelings about the journeys that are taken throughout one s life. In this poem, Bradstreet uses her skills to compare the voyage to America from England to the journey a religious person is to take to Heaven from Earth. Now that the journey of the pilgrim has ended, he no longer has to endure the hardships of the trip to his destination, his dangers past, and travails done. However, in order to reach his destination the pilgrim has made sacrifices, like leaving things behind. Otherwise he wouldn t have been able to accomplish his feat, and therefore, to All cares and fears he bids farewell . Later one Bradstreet contemplates how the pilgrim has been successful in his achievement, and how she herself wanted to be part of such journey. Bradstreet sees herself in the image of the pilgrim, renouncing to the world in her way to Heaven. She feels tempted, but obeys the will of God. Bradstreet reminds others that while it is not easy to live a sinless life, the reward at the end is worth all the effort. She understands the difficulties of her plan, and longs to be at rest and soar on high among the blest. Although the journey is lengthy and arduous, Bradstreet realizes that there are still many years before she achieves her goal, years in which she will have to continue following the Commandments and struggling against the society she has been born in. Still, she continues her journey, weary, but hoping for rest, until the day she completes her voyage to eternal life in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Values Ethics Case 1 Essay Annet David Professor Koob Case 1 Massey Energy 1. What were the costs and benefits to stakeholders of the actions taken by Massey Energy and its managers? The stakeholders include everyone from Don Blankenship all the way down to the employees who were treated badly by Massey and their higher ups. Don Blankenship had a few more benefits than costs in regards to his company. He accrued $129 million over his 10 year stint as CEO of Massey Energy while also maintaining a power over others beneath him. He cost himself his reputation within his community and his employees. Massey s employees barely had any benefits other than a relatively well paying job to support their families, otherwise the list of costs that occurred to the employees... The immediate cause of the disaster is the result of a poorly maintained longwall shearer that sent a spark which could not be extinguished because of inoperative water sprayers. This spark ignited a pocket of methane gas that accumulated at the coal face over the course of a year because of poor ventilation. This resulted in an explosion that fireballed throughout the mine because of the accumulation of flammable coal dust that was not properly treated with rock dust as instructed by the MSHA. Although this was the immediate and most detrimental cause of the disaster, I believe Don Blankenship was largely responsible for the disaster. For almost twenty years, Blankenship had near total control over Massey Coal Company, and later Massey Energy. During this time, he had decisive impact over the culture, policies, and practices of the company. He directed a management system that gave priority to productivity, which was running coal, over all other concerns, including environmental impacts, worker health and safety, and legal compliance. As a hands on manager, he was completely and fully aware of everything that was going on in the company, all the way down to the last tank of gasoline or ton of coal. Therefore, he should bear the ultimate responsibility for the Upper Big Branch mine disaster. 4. What steps could be taken now to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
