The Impact Of The New Deal
Black political sentiment started to shift toward the democratic party with the Presidential
campaign of New York Governor Al Smith for the 1928 election. Al Smith captured 17 percent of
the black precincts of Philadelphia, 27 percent of the Black precincts of Cleveland and Chicago,
and 28 percent of Harlem. These statistics showed a shift in support to the Democratic party
previously unseen in American History. Full black voter shift did not occur with Al Smith s
Democratic Party. Al Smith wanted black support but did not risk white support to get it. Al Smiths
unwillingness to fully commit deterred black voters from fully withdrawing from the Republican
Party.
Prior to the election of 1932 the Republican party used its past successes and ... Show more content

They considered early black politicians pawns of the white politicians, used as tools to maintain
the negro republican vote or to discourage vote altogether. Grassroots support for the democratic
party came later as the actions of the democratic candidates showed support for civil rights causes.
Civil rights advocates lobbied consistently for anti lynching legislation throughout the Roosevelt
era. The NAACP leader Walter white asked Democratic senators Robert Wagner and Edward
Costigan to create an anti lynching bill. The bill being too dangerous for politicians, did not
receive enough support to pass. Walter White asked for assistance from President Roosevelt but
Roosevelt only expressed sympathies and did not publicly support anti lynching legislation.
Roosevelt gave Walter White advice on alternate resolutions that did not put the Democratic party
in jeopardy. All attempts at legislation eventually failed and in the end political calculus took
precedence over moral outrage. Eleanor Roosevelt invested herself fully into racial justice. She
involved herself with many African American groups and treated civil rights leaders such as Mary
Bethune as equals publicly. Franklin D. Roosevelt could not freely and openly support these ideals.
During Roosevelts era, pursuing social justice and civil rights harmed politicians and their parties
jeopardizing election outcomes. The politico social limitations of the time dictated Eleanor s
actions and

Characteristics Of Magnet Schools
Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system
remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that
attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a
better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify
all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an
inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet
schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white
children are prioritized.
Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these
magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white
children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like
the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly
accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school
is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and
yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist.
Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes
them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well
due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and
planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the
children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two
black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different
skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the
solution for a myriad of societal issues. In the establishment of magnet schools, the existing
diversity exemplifies symbolic interactionism between the children. Through their interactions, each
student is

A Career As A Pediatric Nurse
Today we will learn about pediatric nurse and what they do for us in this world. They spend their
lives taking care of children, whether they are healthy, sick or dying. They might wonder what a
pediatric nurse is, well it is a certified nurse that deals with only children.
There use to be just be regular nurses that had no certification at all. Just a regular registered nurse
would take care of everyone there was no specititizes. Hospitals would not admit a lot of children
with communicable disease because of high mortality rates. This changed when the first children s
hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was built in 1855. This hospital did not care if a child had a
communicable disease or not. After they started treating more children ... Show more content on

In a hospital setting they will work an average of eight to twelve hours a shift. Most nurses that
work in hospital work three days and then have four days off. This allows them to spend time
with family or to do other things. Anywhere else like a doctor s office will be most likely an
eight hour shift. People can make anywhere between $46,000 to $65,000 a year. The more
someone gets certified in the more they will get paid. If people get certified in pediatric nurse they
will have job security because they are need all over the world. According to the bureau and labor
and statistics there will be an 20% increase for this job (All You Need to Be a Pediatric Nurse and
Pediatric Nurse Benefits).
The physical requirement for a pediatric nurse are slightly different than a resisted nurse. The
things they have in common are pushing gurneys, wheelchairs, and push beds. Pediatric nurses
have to be able to stand, walk, and, sit for long periods of time. A pediatric nurse normally has to
pick up their patient if they are under fifty pounds. They pick them up to move them from place to
place sometimes especially in a hospital

The Lives Of Lee Boyd Malvo And John Allen Muhammad
D.C. Snipers
Randall Pace
Wiregrass Technical College
Abstract
The purpose of this research paper is to examine the lives of Lee Boyd Malvo and John Allen
Muhammad. They are known as the D.C. Snipers who initiated a killing spree that lasted over 20
days and resulted in 10 deaths and 3 injuries. This paper gives insight into the manipulation and
control of John Allen Muhammad over Lee Boyd Malvo who was child during this reign of terror.
Information is given to aid in understanding the contributing factors that led to innocent lives taken
from society, the loss innocence of a minor, and the molding and shaping of a cold blooded killer.
D.C. Snipers Children are the most precious human beings on the Earth. They represent such a
pure and innocence of mankind. They are to be loved, nurtured, molded, and trained by their
parents to be law abiding citizens and good moral and responsible adults. However, what
happens when this does not happen? When innocence is turned into evil, what is the result?
When children are not exposed to model parents and influenced by others who do not have their
best interest in mind, society gains troubled children who have the potential to become
dangerous and unstable. This is the case of the making of Lee Boyd Malvo: The D.C. Sniper.
Lee Boyd Malvo was a child in 2002 when terror struck and our nation was in fear (Albarus,
2012). Lee was manipulated and brainwashed by an adult figure in his life named John Allen

What Is The Lethal Weapon Rhetorical Techniques
Lethal Weapon is a film made by Richard Donner in 1987. It tells a story of two policemen who
become partners. Roger Murtaugh is a veteran, he has family and he is getting older. Martin
Riggs is suicidal officer who lives in a trailer with his dog. To solve the case they need to learn how
to work with one another.
Lethal Weapon is an action movie. As in almost every type of the movie viewers can follow
narration development but they become distracted by some action scenes (like blowing something
up, chasing the car etc.) and narration is suspended for a while. We can notice the same practice
for example in musicals. Action is interrupted there by singing and dancing. But what is also really
characteristic for Lethal Weapon and what we have not seen in previous movies that we watched
during course are comic elements especially in terms of language but ... Show more content on

Martin and Mr. Joshua are getting into the fist fight. This scene is absurd though it shows
development of heroes and a change that occurred in them. Murtaugh and Riggs could kill or
catch villain but instead of that Roger is letting Martin to show his power and get into the fist
fight. This scene lasts for a five minutes. After analysis we can notice many homoerotic elements.
At the beginning they are using only their fists but they become shirtless really quickly and at one
point they use phallic weapons to fight. Water is blowing up in the air and covering everyone and
everything. That brings sexual connotations as well. It is very important to take into consideration
their moves and their acts. After connecting all the elements viewers can notice that this scene is
presented in such a way to be similar to sexual foreplay and re figuration of a sexual act between
men. But this scene threatens patriarchal and heterosexual society. That is why threat of
homosexual romance needs to be removed by killing the villain even though he was defeated by

The Other Side Of The Sky Short Story
The Adventures of Buck, Farah, and Piper
Imagine undertaking a life threatening mission. In The Other Side of the Sky, Farah Ahmedi
walked several miles through desert mountains to escape to Pakistan. While Piper McCloud used
teamwork, determination, and imagination to escape I.N.S.A.N.E and keep her ability to fly in
The Girl Who Could Fly, Buck undertook the mission of adapting to the wild, so he would be
able to survive in the book, Call of the Wild. However, all three were patient, determined, and used
the help of others in order to achieve their goals.
Without the help of Ghulam Ali and a positive mind, Farah Ahmedi wouldn t have been able to
escape Pakistan. For example, as Ahmedi was being shoved farther from the border of Pakistan,
The Afghans were yelling something, and the Pakistanis were yelling back (Ahmedi para. 1).
Additionally, The guards had clubs, and they had carbines, too, which they turned around and
used as weapons (Ahmedi para. 2). Ahmedi s goal was necessary because if she hadn t escaped,
she would ve continued to suffer in the conditions she was living in, and it could ve gotten worse
as the time went by. As the text states, How did I scale that mountain so easily? How did I climb
down the other side (Ahmedi para. 12)? Also, You and your mother are in my care now (Ahmedi
para. 9). Farah, her mom, and the family they were traveling with achieved their goal by making it
past the several miles of mountains with Ghulam Ali s help. According to

Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps ( Irgc )
Anyone who has even the slightest clue about anything related to world news has the basic
understanding that Iran is a major player in the world of politics. From miscellaneous missile
launches to disputes with other foreign nations, they have strong armed their way onto the
international stage. Iran has become the largest threat in the Middle Eastern region as a result of
the efforts of their fairly infant Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Plunging in for a closer
look, the strength of the IRGC impresses not only politics, but the socioeconomic culture of Iranbut
not in the most positive fashion.
Formally known as Persia, Iran s military history spans back to the time period before Christ
existed. Through thousands of years of regime changes, in more modern times, Iran has adopted
a two headed military system. These two factions are the Artesh and the Sepah (more commonly
known as Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps [IRGC]). The Artesh is the national defense force
or the conventional army of Iran. The Artesh protect the borders and carry out other internal
responsibilities while the IRGC serves as the offensive entity. The Artesh has more soldiers than
the IRGC, but the IRGC is the face and strength of Iran. The birth of the IRGC was a result of the
Iranian Revolution of 1979. The ability of the IRGC to not only stand up as an Army, but to
essentially eradicate the Iraqi presence from Iran to end the 8 year Iraq Iran War legitimizes its
existence even to this day.

Dust Bowl California Oral History
Images of Great Depression migrants often depict white families, impoverished farmers whose
crops have been destroyed by dust storms, and people who have no choice but to escape to
California in search of job opportunities (Shindo, 26). The oral history interview of Vera Jones

the Great Depressionboth typifies and challenges those assumptions (Dunning, 1, 8). This

Religious Rights Vs Gay Rights Essay
Religious Rights vs. Gay Rights
The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community have always had issues with
discrimination and prejudice; even now anti gay movements are growing not only in our
communities but also in our legislative branch in the government. These people disguise their
hate behind the constitution and claim freedom of religion and speech. There ignoreos is
growing to our congressmen and women, laws are being pass in some states to prevent other anti

Religious Freedom Restoration Act passed in Indiana is one example just a way to legalize
discrimination against gays: any business owner could now refuse to serve them simply by
citing a religious objection. Why do laws like these get pass. Its because of religious
congressmen and women who put their beliefs in the bible on religion over the laws they are
supposed to uphold and protect. Luckily some of these laws have been proven to be
unconstitutional under the supreme court but only after years of activist fighting them. We have
made a lot of progress over the years but it still isn t enough to protect the LGBT community. In
this country today can get married on Saturday post pictures on the wedding online on sunday and
be fired from their job or evicted from the apartment on monday for their sexual orientation. There
needs to a national law protected everyone from any form of discrimination.
If you ask someone if it is illegal to fire someone if they re gay they will most likely say yes but
that s not the case in most of the country. This is why we as a country need to push for better
laws protecting LGBT members and their rights. Until lawmakers put aside their religious and
anti gay beliefs and give LGBT members their basic right do they don t have to live in fear or

Freeman And Martin Shkreli
The primary sense of the term [business ethics] refers to recent developments and to the period,
since roughly the early 1070s, when the term came into common use in the United States (George,
Web). This means that business ethics has become a huge deal over the last recent years.
Additionally, Martin Shkreli acted unethically when he raises the price of a useful drug to certain
people who needed it to survive. One person that would argue that Shkreli was acting unethical is
R. Edward Freeman.
A website in the internet informs that Martin Shkreli was born to Albanian and Croatians

Edward Freeman would believe just the opposite. Freeman believes the opposite of Friedman.
Freeman argues the opposite by stating that the basic idea is that businesses, and the executives
who manage them, actually do and should create value for customers, suppliers, employees,
communities, and financiers [or shareholders] (Freeman, 39). This passage suggest that Freeman
believes in the stakeholder theory, and that a stakeholder can be anyone: an employee, a customer,
the community, etc. Freeman counter argument to Friedman is that Shkreli forgot the most
important rule in modern business, The customer is always right. Friedman theory might have
been ethical to use in the old days, but in recent years a business being ethical includes taking it
customers opinion into account. Friedman fail to realize that workers and employees play a
huge role in business making profit. Additionally, the web states that For decades, there wasn t
any competition to Daraprim for the simple reason that there wasn t much money to made
selling it (McLean, Web). This is yet another prove that Shkreli didn t had a reason to raise its
price. Because they have no competition, then they didn t have a reason to raise it price. He
acquired the U.S. rights to a lifesaving drug and promptly boosted its price over 5,000 percent
(Mclean, Web). All things consider, it is understandable that the drug cost money to make, but
raising the price to 5000% is outrageously high. For this reason, I believe that if he would have
just double the price, it would have been such a huge deal/unethical. Moving one, in Freedman s
eye Shkreli failed to take his customers into account, and what is worst he hasn t apologized to its
customers. Overall customers have become extremely important to a business, and if you failed to
put customers first the business will not be

Coach Carter Analysis
Ken Carter A.K.A Coach Carter is a fictional character from the Docudrama Coach Carter. Ken
shows signs of an authoritarian complex as his personality has an exceedingly apparent correlation
with; sociopathy, draconian authority, and an almost dictator like persona. Using references from
the film we gain proof of Ken s autocratic demeanour. During the time after the Oilers (Richmond
high basketballteam) win their first game Timo Cruz comes to the gym seeking to amalgamate with
his bygone team. Timo becoming a perfect caricature of penitence Ken acted against this remorse
with a gargantuan and quite frankly unattainable task (2500 push ups and 1000 suicides by Friday.)
as a form of punishment. This account provides evidence that Ken Carters despotic and tyrannical

Ken Carter asks each member of the Oilers Basketball Team to sign a contract stating; They must
abstain from dropping below a 2.4 GPA (GradePoint Average.), Attend each and every one of
their classes, be seated in the front row of each class, wear a tie on game day, and they must

This case analysis looks at the two primary problems at the receiving plant no. 1 (RP 1) faced by
National Cranberry Cooperative during the cranberry harvesting period, viz. 1) too much waiting

One more category in between 2A and 3 can also made having a lesser premium than quality 3. But
the various other implications of this step should be taken into account like increased final

5.) Decreasing the truck waiting time
The main problem that the receiving plant is facing is that the trucks have to wait a lot particularly
in the peak season before they can unload the berries. This cope up with the problem the
cooperative installed an additional Kiwanee Dumper last year (i.e. 1969) but that didn t help in
solving the problem.
We first analyze the average truck waiting time for the next year with present capacities and
assuming 70% to be wet berries and rest dry.
As the wet berry processing would take lesser time if it bulk packed, we assume that during the
peak season the wet berries are only bulk packed and dry berries are bag packed.
Assuming a berry arrival of 18,000 bbl in a day (7am to 7pm) in the peak season at a constant rate

dry berry arrival rate would be 450 bbls per day.

With the processing starting at 11 am , the holding bins will continue to be filled at this rate

Sissy And Andy Jackson s Tears Of A Tiger

through his actions in the novelof Tears of a Tiger. Characterization plays an important role in the

For instance in the text Sissy states, I was just fooling around, don t get so worked up. This
shows manipulation because Sissy has lied about intentionally drowning Emma and said it was
fun in order for Emma to think that Sissy was not trying to hurt her, so that they can be together
longer. Another example of manipulation on Sissy s part is when Dulcie states, There it s gone!
I don t want to hear another word about this. It s a case of teenage vandalism. This demonstrates
how Sissy is manipulative because Sissy tricked Dulcie into thinking that it was immature
teenagers that destroyed her paintings when it was Sissy. Even if Dulcie did think that Sissy did
do it deep, down inside, Sissy still manipulated her because Dulcie will think she is back and that
now she has to tell the truth about what she had really done. The last example in which Sissy has
proven she can be manipulative is when she says, What if I throw Edith in the lake? Do you want
her enough to jump in and get her? This shows how Sissy is conniving because she deceived Emma
to leap into the water, knowing that Emma could not swim and drown. Sissy has demonstrated

The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman
Dramaturgical Perspective
In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a
staged production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one
encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of all the world
s a stage (1959, 254). This, he terms as a dramaturgical approach (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an
actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater.
Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals
involved in the situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self,
and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes
specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign vehicles, and
highlights the process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following
sections.
Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the
environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are
consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Specifically Goffman states as all the activity of an
individual which occurs during a period marked by his continuous presence before a particular set
of observers and which has some influence on the observers (1959, 32). Goffman (1959) uses the

Analysis Of Andy Goldsworthy s Piece Ice Spiral
Thinking about a tree, one might think about the leaves and how they could symbolize balance,
growth, and harmony. Or one might think about how a tree represents nature itself by
symbolizing such attributes as strength, stability, diversity and withstanding the greatest of
challenges to survive. Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer and
environmentalist who produces site specific land art which embody these characteristics and
represent nature as a whole. Goldsworthy s process is to be as involved in nature as he possibly
can and to produce sculptures to draw out the character of the environment. He seeks to draw
emphasis to the beauty and exquisiteness of nature while also displaying the stages of life nature
goes through; it grows, stays and decays as an integral part of the circle of life. Goldsworthy s
piece Ice Spiral: Tree Soul, exemplifies these distinctive elements and displays his unique
technique in a way that captures the essence of nature. When one first looks upon the photograph
of Tree Soul, it almost looks unreal or that the ice spiral surrounding the tree was digitally added to
the image of the tree. The spiral ice sculptureis perfectly molded to wrap around the tree and opens
the eyes of the audience in sensing the beauty and multidimensional details of the natural world.
When creating his art pieces, Goldsworthy uses all materials of the natural world such as twigs,
flowers, snow, stone, leaves and ice. He only uses natural materials found

Characteristics Of Naturalism
America and its literature was once heavily influenced by the writings of romanticism. But during
the time of wars, people in America threw away their rose colored glasses and saw the world for it
was. And although this is how most realism writers ideas are portrayed, naturalism took it one step
further and correlated it to human behaviors and beliefs. Great authors were not only inspired by
events around their time period but also by other authors who had come before them and what they
wrote about.
During the late nineteenth century, the literary movement naturalism, was introduced to American
writers. The genesis of this movement was conducted in countries from Western Europe but the
french author, Emile Zola, set the movement into action. Zola s works and techniques strongly
suggested writers to look at the world a little more clearly and write about what it really was.
This new idea was eventually spread to the Americas and influenced more writers and more
people to look at the world and their country as Zola intended. Although, the movement was first
brought up in France, it was very short lived but was given a longer life in America. In naturalist
writings, a common focus is to express the life of lower class characters who live in poverty. An
example from a naturalist author, was a book about a struggling family during the Great Depression.
Another common characteristic of naturalism is to have the plots and conflicts of man against
nature or man against

Mental Illness In The Victorian Era
In the Victorian era (during the 1800s), it was a common belief that people with psychological
illnesses were adulterated by the devil. Patients with these conditions were treated imperfectly and
lived in unsanitary conditions. For example, most patients lived in cages, and were given minimal
amounts of food, much like animals in captivity. As science progressed, a new perspective formed
that challenged the original beliefs people had about mental illnesses. Not only did society make
progress in the medicineinvolved in psychological illnesses, but they also made progress in the
perception of these patients. The Dual Diagnosis, Chris Pleasance, Humbleisd.net and

Conditions in these prisons were appalling; however, soon improvements were made due to rapid
revolution as stated in the article by Humbleisd.net . This article went into deep detail and history
regarding legislature that was passed for patient suffrage and rights of mentally ill individuals with
serious psychological conditions. A turning point came when, in 1841, the UK government passed
a new act that required them to inspect the living conditions of asylums ( Humbleisd.net ). They
expected it to be a therapeutic environment, not prison like with poor ventilation, as they found it
to be. This support from the government brought about rapid change in terms of asylum life but
also societal perception of these patients with mental illnesses. This source was substantiated by
the article written by the VictorianEra.org website that covers the many advancements in the
fields of science and medicine during the Victorian era. There was a pervading hopefulness
among all academicians and doctors and writers. For the very first time, religion was relegated to
the second place as far as diagnosis and treatments were concerned ( VictorianEra.org ). The

Should Prison Gangs Become More Prevalent Inside Our...
Prison gangs within the penal system are problematic and a multifaceted issue for several reasons.
One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others,
including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison
administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite
measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order
(Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs
are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of
prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang
activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our
nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more
rapidly than in the previous years. Correction staff recognizes some prison gangs as being a
security threat group or STG. A security threat group is a term for prison gangs that describes how
they negatively impact the security of prison operations (Smallagher Smykla, 2015). Gangs have
increased in size and popularity with the penal system because of desegregation with the facilities.
After desegregation happened in the 1960s, inmates regarded desegregation as a need to join
together racially, especially as a means of

Essay on American Songs that Record Culture and History
American Songs that Record Culture and History
As has been said many times over, songs are a reflection of society. They give insight into feelings,
moods, historical changes, and the overall atmosphere of the society. Our American society is
diverse and so too is our music. There are many genres of music and there were many evolutions to
create those genres. Further, what happens in society, the historical changes, also effect those
changes.
Sex, drugs, alcohol. They are influential substance/actions by all accounts. Love, hate, sadness,
desire, fear. They are strong emotions. In songs played on the radio there are many songs with
references to both the good and bad of the topics mentioned above. However, ... Show more content

It is safe to say that a majority of American youth find underage drinking okay. This song also
seems to say that the youth find nothing wrong with casual sex. And after listening to just one night
of the daily news, many would agree to the above ideas. Even the song Doo Wop (That Thing)
by Lauryn Hill suggests that American youth are casually having sex and immaturely doing so.
In her song she warns today s youth to be careful and not get caught up in the game. Giving it up
so easy you ain t even foolin him...Showing off your ass cause you thinking it s a trend. The lyrics
hit hard, but Lauryn Hill is giving us a glimpse into the lives of a majority of our youth. Although
we, or our children, may not be of the majority, this is the truth and it does hurt.
One day our songs will be history. One day someone will look at those lyrics I have listed above
and see references to our culture and how we lived our lives. But for today we look at yesterday
s songs and see history. We listen for hints into how people felt and what was going on. We look
for songs like Your Dog Loves My Dog sang by the Nashville Quartet. This song demonstrates
some of the frustrations of those living during the civil rights movement. Even though they lived
across the street from one another, a traditional black family never knew their traditional white
family neighbors. Not because they could not speak or could not walk over the way, but because it
was not acceptable.

Values Of Anglo Saxon Values
Anglo Saxon Values that still hold true Today. What are values? Values are things which are
important to one, and will determine one s priorities. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were
values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values,
as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true
today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful
to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what
the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because
he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to
being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf
his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of
loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the peopleshow loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can
all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t
even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or
work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. For example, in
the Dream of the Rood, (123 124) I prayed to that tree with ardent zeal, where I was alone with few

Between father and son we can see a representation of modern day broken home situations. The
role of father and son has been reversed in this story. Not only does their relationship contain
holes, the son seems to be the more mature one of the two. The values of being part of a family
has sabotaged the Father s marriage with his son s mother. He is an a man who has a constant
need for adrenaline, and that rush he gets what makes him constantly ask his ex wife for

although he is trying to please the boy s mother, to the son, it is just another one of his rushes.
Everything the father lacks in family values, his son covers with nervousness. He sticks to his

Every human being on Earth wants to find a way to get tasks done the easiest way possible,

Analysis Of Pretty Woman And The Proposal
Filmmakers have been making romantic comedies since the beginning of the art. The genre
includes light hearted scenes with two beautiful main characters showing their idyllic struggle and
journey to finding their love. The genre, most like most movies are not realistic, but it proves
great for escapism from your stressful everyday life. Romantic comedies, also poorly nicknamed
as the chick flick , have almost sturdy societal gender roles representing the two main characters.
One cis male and one cis female are typically shown. Pretty Woman and The Proposalboth show
typical conventions seen in romantic comedies, although The Proposal does a much better job
appealing to a modern feminist audience. The movie appeals to the modern woman by not
conforming to the stereotypical gender roles, not glorifying materialism, and focusing more the two
lead characters and their realistic flaws.
The man typically shows dominance and has a higher working status than the woman. This is
clearly shown in Garry Marshall s Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts is depicted as a low class
prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy businessman, Richard Gere. Many romcoms made in
the 90s through 2000s depicted this basic misogyny, but in the mid 2000s a romcom was released
that went against the standards of most movies in that genre. The Proposal directed by Anne
Fletcher shows a powerful working woman depicted by Sandra Bullock, who forcibly gave her
secretary an ultimatum to marry her when she was

The Church Must Catch Up
In today s modern world there is a clear rise of unbelief and modern culture is increasingly leaning
more towards the secular. Richard J. Bernstein, discusses how the shift to secularity consists of a
move from a society where belief in God is unchallenged and indeed, unproblematic, to one in which
it is understood to be one option among others, and frequently not the easiest to embrace . Less
people are attending church and more individuals are seeking resolution and purpose else where.
Despite the secularization that is evident within modern society, there are new cultural practices
and changing beliefs that are being implemented within the church to bridge this secular divide.
This is demonstrated through individual religious organizations... Show more content on

I personally feel as though both of these examples have their positive and negative impacts when it
comes to reinstating religion in to a very secularized society. In reference to Reverend Gretta
Vosper, her failure to focus on an almighty God when it comes to preaching the Christian faith
can be very controversial. On one hand, it opens up the church to a wider population of
individuals with an array of beliefs, allowing Christianity to be a more universal religion.
Providing the opportunity to still practice Christian values and attend church without the
requirement of a blind faith in a transcendent being will help to reintegrate Christianity in to
modern culture. One of the negatives to this is that individuals who believe strongly in an
omnipotent God can feel as though their faith is being diminished by not acknowledging that
He exists. However, in relation to bridging the religious and secular divide I feel as though
providing an array of opportunities for individuals to engage in and practice the Christian faith is
more beneficial. In regards to Pope Francis and his push for new reforms in order to ordain
married men and women, I feel as though again it is a step towards closing the divide between
religion and the secular. Pope Francis is someone who is filled with charisma and is extremely

The Reflex Of A Reflex
Sometimes people go to a doctor appointment and they get their knee with a small rubber
hammer? Or they go to the eye doctor and had them put drops in their eyes to dilate their pupils?
These are all in some way connected to a reflex.
Reflexes A reflex is an involuntary, or nearly instantaneous movement in response to a change in the
environment. Reflexes are done without having to think about it. All healthy people are born with
most reflexes that can help to protect themselves from harm.
Reaction versus Reflexes Reactions and reflexes are two different types of responses. A reaction is
a choice that is made by mentally making a decision. On the contrary, a reflex is instinctive and
automatic. A reaction goes through the sensory... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grasp appears at birth but only continues for another five or six months. This reflex occurs if
a finger is placed on their open palm. The infant s hand will close around the finger and trying to
remove the finger causes the grip to tighten. Newborn infants have strong grasps and can almost
be lifted up if both hands are grasping fingers! The moro reflex, also called the startle reflex, is
likely to occur if the following happen: the infant s head suddenly shifts in position, the
temperature changes abruptly, they are startled by a sudden noise, or the sensation of falling
takes place. Even the baby s own cry may cause this reflex! The legs and head extend while the
arms jerk up and out with the palms up and thumbs flexed. The step reflex is sparked when the sole
of the foot touch a hard surface. The infant then lifts one foot, then the other, as if walking.
Children and Adult Reflexes Many infant reflexes continue into toddlerhood and some stay with
people all of our lives. Adults and children have reflexes such as the following: the
accommodation reflex, acoustic reflex, pupillary light reflex, brachioradialis reflex, deep tendon
reflex, and patellar reflex. These reflexes can help our bodies to stay protected and safe.
Accommodation Reflex The accommodation reflex is an action of the eye in response to
focusing on a object, whether it is looking at a near object and then focusing on a far object or

Fahrenheit 451 Conformity Quotes
According to the novel, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Rollo May s quote The opposite of

something you don t have knowledge on with the stakes so high and then not give others a voice
when they bring viewpoints that differ to what you originally conformed to, is known as a

Marx rejects the classical view of exchange, explaining that under conditions of simple
reproduction of goods, money serves only as a medium to circulate commodities. In the
classical view, this process of production and exchange involves the exchange of individuals
commodity surpluses for money, which are used to buy other commodities. This process whose
purpose is to satisfy only wants can be represented by C M C. The capitalist process for Marx is
different in that the capitalist uses money to buy labor power as a commodity whose use value,
in turn, is at his disposal for the entire working day. The capitalist then uses the selling price of
workers products (in which their labor power is set) to return an amount of revenue to the
capitalist that exceeds the wage cost of the labor he purchased. This can be represented as M C
M or buying in order to sell. This creates an immediate economic advantage from the standpoint
of the capitalist in the M C M process because he has the money to purchase the capital labor
necessary to create more money through surplus labor power. For Marx, this represents a change
in the classical perspective from buying in order to sell to an attitude of buying to sell dearer. This
alters the exchange process into an input of M en style lapidaire to create an output of more M or

conservative ideology. Medvedev proposed Third way gestures towards fostering groups,
intermediary institutions, small and medium sized enterprise as well as regions instead of relying
on the individual citizen and the executive branch of government. To summarize considered above,
it can be said, hat Medvedev s ambition was to overcome the soviet legacy of collectivism. He
believed that without more human and social capital, Russia can neither modernize nor

Dollar General Analysis
Dollar General Corporation is a premier low cost retailer organization in the United States. It is
amongst the biggest retailers with over 11,500 stores that provide quality commodities made by
American manufacturers. One of the Dollar General s main objectives is to create an atmosphere
that enables access to everyday items worry free, rather it is a simple bar of soap or a box of
detergent. This objective is achieved by offering a detailed variety of recognized labels at
affordable prices in well located and accessible locations (Dollar General Corporation, 2014).
Multiple strategic and operational company goals were identified in the SWOT ... Show more

(Dollar General Corporation Analysis, 2014). As a large corporation, this places Dollar General in
an exceptional position to contribute to the environment and provide a significant influence on
customers by offering environmentally safe and friendly product selections to encourage a
green environment. An aggressive recycling program is in place to avert waste from going to
landfills at substantial levels. The collection and processing of cardboard waste alone for
recycling saves an estimated equivalency of nearly 2.4 million forest trees a year (Dollar General
Corporation, 2014). Outdated computer processors, worn store equipment, and consumable paper
and plastic are also among the many recyclable by products Dollar General keeps out of landfills
with its forward leaning recycling programs. Also Dollar General s choice to implement the use of
energy efficient lighting systems and programmed central air/heat pumps conserves energy as well
as keep operating cost low for greater profits for stakeholders and low cost savings for customers
(Dollar General Corporation, 2014). Furthermore, shoppers are engaged routinely on
environmental awareness and informed on the variety of green choices available. This is achieved
by offering a mixture of eco friendly items such as reusable carryout bags and environmentally safe
cleaning products. Making green choices is good for

Professional Hockey Players
In the world of professional sports, teams value youth, searching for the next super star. Whether it
is inking the highly coveted free agent, or rebuilding through drafts, General Managers have put a
premium on young athletes, hoping that these youngsters will become the face of the franchise.
Age and experience has seem to taken a back seat for teams. While it is important to develop
young prospects, veteran leadership is often hard to find during games, in the locker room, and
particularly during the playoffs. There are four current players in the National Hockey League who
are still excelling well into their 40 s, contributing on a nightly basis. They are Martin Brodeur,
Teemu Selanne, Jaromir Jagr, and Daniel Alfredsson.
Daniel Alfredsoon, the longtime captain of the Ottawa Senators, now plays for the Detroit Red
Wings. Alfredsson is 41 years old and is currently second on the team this season in goals, having
lit the lamp 17 times. With injuries to stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Alfredsson has
been able to step up and provide the scoring that Detroit desperately sought when its two stars
went down with injuries. He also has 26 assists on the season and is helping the Red Wings make
a late season push for the playoffs.
Alfredsson participated in his 5th Olympic games this February as a member of Sweden s team.
He had four points in five games, registering two goals and two assists to help his country earn a
silver medal after falling to Canada.

Essay On Conscription In The Vietnam War
Introduction In this project the subject being researched will be conscription in the Vietnam
War. During this particular war, many Australian men were conscripted into the national
servicemen and had to work in the army during the war. Many Australians were against the idea
of conscription and protested against it. Between late 1964 and December 1972 804,286 twenty
year olds registered for national service, 63,735 national servicemen served in the army and
15,381 served in Vietnam. Around 200 servicemen died in the war. Paragraph 1 The National
Servicemen were made up of men that were conscripted to work in the army. These men were 20
years old. Once a man had turned 20 they were liable to be chosen for the army. If someone was
chosen they were obligated to join. The national servicemen had to give two years continuous
full time service in the regular army. This was then followed by an extra three years on the
active reserves list. While the men were part of the two years full time service, they were liable to
be chosen for special overseas service. These special services included service in Vietnam.
Paragraph 2... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Birthdays were placed into a lottery machine, and the people with the same birthday as on
picked out of the machine were called up to the national servicemen. If someone was chosen the
only way they can avoid it is if they had disabilities or were too unfit for the army. There were
very severe consequences for those that refused to join the national servicemen. They could be
prosecuted and possibly convicted with a jail sentence that could last as long as the usual amount
of time spent in the National Service. Some people also tried to pretend to be too unwell or unfit
for the National Service. These people could also suffer a conviction and would also be

  • 2. The Impact Of The New Deal Black political sentiment started to shift toward the democratic party with the Presidential campaign of New York Governor Al Smith for the 1928 election. Al Smith captured 17 percent of the black precincts of Philadelphia, 27 percent of the Black precincts of Cleveland and Chicago, and 28 percent of Harlem. These statistics showed a shift in support to the Democratic party previously unseen in American History. Full black voter shift did not occur with Al Smith s Democratic Party. Al Smith wanted black support but did not risk white support to get it. Al Smiths unwillingness to fully commit deterred black voters from fully withdrawing from the Republican Party. Prior to the election of 1932 the Republican party used its past successes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They considered early black politicians pawns of the white politicians, used as tools to maintain the negro republican vote or to discourage vote altogether. Grassroots support for the democratic party came later as the actions of the democratic candidates showed support for civil rights causes. Civil rights advocates lobbied consistently for anti lynching legislation throughout the Roosevelt era. The NAACP leader Walter white asked Democratic senators Robert Wagner and Edward Costigan to create an anti lynching bill. The bill being too dangerous for politicians, did not receive enough support to pass. Walter White asked for assistance from President Roosevelt but Roosevelt only expressed sympathies and did not publicly support anti lynching legislation. Roosevelt gave Walter White advice on alternate resolutions that did not put the Democratic party in jeopardy. All attempts at legislation eventually failed and in the end political calculus took precedence over moral outrage. Eleanor Roosevelt invested herself fully into racial justice. She involved herself with many African American groups and treated civil rights leaders such as Mary Bethune as equals publicly. Franklin D. Roosevelt could not freely and openly support these ideals. During Roosevelts era, pursuing social justice and civil rights harmed politicians and their parties jeopardizing election outcomes. • 4. Characteristics Of Magnet Schools Magnet schools are a fantastic idea when viewed from a large spectrum, however the system remains slightly skewed. Northern Hartford is 80% Black and Latino. Many of the students that attend magnet schools represent these ethnicities. However, there are still parents searching for a better academic option for their children as they attend the inner city public schools that exemplify all of the characteristics discussed before: poor educators, run down buildings, and merely an inadequate quality of education. These parents try very hard to enroll their children into the magnet schools, but unfortunately, 50% of these ethnic children are on a waitlist. Once again, white children are prioritized. Officials of these magnet schools go out of their way to seek out white children to attend these magnet schools in order to meet the quota, and yes, it creates a diverse environment, but these white children, again, are given additional opportunities. If a white child and his or her parent do not like the magnet school, they can easily attend their neighborhood school which is usually highly accredited. On the contrary, for Black and Latino children of Northern Hartford, the magnet school is their one and only opportunity to escape the inadequate, segregated, public school system, and yet, these children are the ones on the waitlist. Overall, magnet schools provide an opportunity for success to children of all ethnicities. It exposes them to diversity and broadens their views of greater society. Children are likely to perform well due to the extensive resources provided in these magnet schools such as the vivarium and planetarium in the magnet school for environmental sciences. Not only is it beneficial for the children, but it demonstrates to parents who grew up in white, suburban, areas with one or two black children that diversity is good, that these children are just like any others but with a different skin tone. Integration aids in ridding the idea of racism and stereotypes. Ultimately, it is the solution for a myriad of societal issues. They are to be loved, nurtured, molded, and trained by their parents to be law abiding citizens and good moral and responsible adults. However, what happens when this does not happen? When innocence is turned into evil, what is the result? When children are not exposed to model parents and influenced by others who do not have their best interest in mind, society gains troubled children who have the potential to become dangerous and unstable. This passage suggest that Freeman believes in the stakeholder theory, and that a stakeholder can be anyone: an employee, a customer, the community, etc. Freeman counter argument to Friedman is that Shkreli forgot the most important rule in modern business, The customer is always right. Friedman theory might have been ethical to use in the old days, but in recent years a business being ethical includes taking it customers opinion into account. Friedman fail to realize that workers and employees play a huge role in business making profit. Additionally, the web states that For decades, there wasn t any competition to Daraprim for the simple reason that there wasn t much money to made selling it (McLean, Web). All things consider, it is understandable that the drug cost money to make, but raising the price to 5000% is outrageously high. • 19. The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life by Erving Goffman Dramaturgical Perspective In his book, The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life, Goffman (1959) focuses on the self as a staged production in which people actively present themselves to different audiences one encounters. To bolster his conceptualization, Goffman used an interesting metaphor of all the world s a stage (1959, 254). This, he terms as a dramaturgical approach (Goffman 1959, 240) in which an actor puts on a show for others; drawing analogies between human behaviors and the theater. Goffman (1959) likens the individual to an actor on stage performing for and with other individuals involved in the situation. Three types of space exist for the actor to perform on, to enact the self, and to interact with others: the front stage, the backstage, the outer region. Goffman (1959) utilizes specific dramaturgical terms such as performance, teams, front and back regions, sign vehicles, and highlights the process of dramatic realization. These terms will be discussed in the following sections. Performance. The interactions are viewed as a performance, constantly being shaped by the environment and audience, with the objective of providing others with impressions that are consonant with the desired goals of the actor. Or one might think about how a tree represents nature itself by symbolizing such attributes as strength, stability, diversity and withstanding the greatest of challenges to survive. Andy Goldsworthy is a British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist who produces site specific land art which embody these characteristics and represent nature as a whole. Goldsworthy s process is to be as involved in nature as he possibly can and to produce sculptures to draw out the character of the environment. He seeks to draw emphasis to the beauty and exquisiteness of nature while also displaying the stages of life nature goes through; it grows, stays and decays as an integral part of the circle of life. Goldsworthy s piece Ice Spiral: Tree Soul, exemplifies these distinctive elements and displays his unique technique in a way that captures the essence of nature. When one first looks upon the photograph of Tree Soul, it almost looks unreal or that the ice spiral surrounding the tree was digitally added to the image of the tree. • 21. Characteristics Of Naturalism America and its literature was once heavily influenced by the writings of romanticism. But during the time of wars, people in America threw away their rose colored glasses and saw the world for it was. And although this is how most realism writers ideas are portrayed, naturalism took it one step further and correlated it to human behaviors and beliefs. Great authors were not only inspired by events around their time period but also by other authors who had come before them and what they wrote about. During the late nineteenth century, the literary movement naturalism, was introduced to American writers. The genesis of this movement was conducted in countries from Western Europe but the french author, Emile Zola, set the movement into action. Zola s works and techniques strongly suggested writers to look at the world a little more clearly and write about what it really was. This new idea was eventually spread to the Americas and influenced more writers and more people to look at the world and their country as Zola intended. Although, the movement was first brought up in France, it was very short lived but was given a longer life in America. In naturalist writings, a common focus is to express the life of lower class characters who live in poverty. An example from a naturalist author, was a book about a struggling family during the Great Depression. One reason gangs are so problematic in the penal system is due to the threat they impose on others, including other types of gang bangers, non gang affiliated inmates, correctional staff, prison administration, and the overall security of the facility itself. According to research, A composite measure of gangmisconduct represents the threat that particular gangs pose to prison order (Gaes, Wallace, Gilman, Saffron, Suppa, 2002). In fact, There is little doubt that prison gangs are the source of considerable misconduct and present serious challenges to the management of prisons, which is why numerous strategies have been employed to control and suppress gang activity (Pyrooz Mitchell, 2015). Why are prison gangs becoming more prevalent inside our nation s prison system? Since the 1950s, prison gangs have developed in American prisons more rapidly than in the previous years. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values, as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what the situation is. Beowulfshows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the peopleshow loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. • 28. Analysis Of Pretty Woman And The Proposal Filmmakers have been making romantic comedies since the beginning of the art. The genre includes light hearted scenes with two beautiful main characters showing their idyllic struggle and journey to finding their love. The genre, most like most movies are not realistic, but it proves great for escapism from your stressful everyday life. Romantic comedies, also poorly nicknamed as the chick flick , have almost sturdy societal gender roles representing the two main characters. One cis male and one cis female are typically shown. Pretty Woman and The Proposalboth show typical conventions seen in romantic comedies, although The Proposal does a much better job appealing to a modern feminist audience. The movie appeals to the modern woman by not conforming to the stereotypical gender roles, not glorifying materialism, and focusing more the two lead characters and their realistic flaws. The man typically shows dominance and has a higher working status than the woman. This is clearly shown in Garry Marshall s Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts is depicted as a low class prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy businessman, Richard Gere. Many romcoms made in the 90s through 2000s depicted this basic misogyny, but in the mid 2000s a romcom was released that went against the standards of most movies in that genre. • 30. The Church Must Catch Up In today s modern world there is a clear rise of unbelief and modern culture is increasingly leaning more towards the secular. Richard J. Bernstein, discusses how the shift to secularity consists of a move from a society where belief in God is unchallenged and indeed, unproblematic, to one in which it is understood to be one option among others, and frequently not the easiest to embrace . Less people are attending church and more individuals are seeking resolution and purpose else where. Despite the secularization that is evident within modern society, there are new cultural practices and changing beliefs that are being implemented within the church to bridge this secular divide. This is demonstrated through individual religious organizations... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally feel as though both of these examples have their positive and negative impacts when it comes to reinstating religion in to a very secularized society. In reference to Reverend Gretta Vosper, her failure to focus on an almighty God when it comes to preaching the Christian faith can be very controversial. On one hand, it opens up the church to a wider population of individuals with an array of beliefs, allowing Christianity to be a more universal religion. Providing the opportunity to still practice Christian values and attend church without the requirement of a blind faith in a transcendent being will help to reintegrate Christianity in to modern culture. One of the negatives to this is that individuals who believe strongly in an omnipotent God can feel as though their faith is being diminished by not acknowledging that He exists. However, in relation to bridging the religious and secular divide I feel as though providing an array of opportunities for individuals to engage in and practice the Christian faith is more beneficial. In regards to Pope Francis and his push for new reforms in order to ordain married men and women, I feel as though again it is a step towards closing the divide between religion and the secular. Marx rejects the classical view of exchange, explaining that under conditions of simple reproduction of goods, money serves only as a medium to circulate commodities. In the classical view, this process of production and exchange involves the exchange of individuals commodity surpluses for money, which are used to buy other commodities. This process whose purpose is to satisfy only wants can be represented by C M C. The capitalist process for Marx is different in that the capitalist uses money to buy labor power as a commodity whose use value, in turn, is at his disposal for the entire working day. The capitalist then uses the selling price of workers products (in which their labor power is set) to return an amount of revenue to the capitalist that exceeds the wage cost of the labor he purchased.
