SCADA Overview

• Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition
• Monitor, control and collect data from 26 sites
   – In the last 8 years, we have added:
       •   5 large Caterpillar emergency generators
       •   4 new water wells
       •   4 new sewage lift stations
       •   Reclaimed water system w/500,000 gallon tank
       •   A third wastewater treatment plant at Carter Lake
       •   Physical security at critical facilities (post 9/11)
       •   A second set of high service pumps at Dowling Road

• Allows us to staff sites only during working hours
   – Saves at least 16 operators, approx $750,000/year
SCADA MMI

• Man-Machine Interface is what the Operator sees
• Existing MMI is 15 years old, no longer supported
• New MMI is essential

• Solicited proposals and interviewed 4 companies
• Selected The Reynolds Company and Factory Talk
• Installation and integration will take about a year
   – Original concept was self-install, but Vendor turn-key is essential
• Existing system will stay fully functional
• New MMI will be documented and understandable
