2. Executive Summary
2
• Conclusions for Wastewater service in Northgate
• Excess capacity exists for currently planned Developments
• Assumes Campus Pointe served by TAMU
• At present growth rate, improvements must start in FY-16
• Future Collection System improvements required
• Hensel Park Lift Station capacity from 1,800 gpm to 2,800 gpm
– $2.3 million in FY-16
• Northeast Trunk Line must be upsized to match lift station
– $3.0 million spread over FY-16/17/18
• Culpepper and Cooner Street line upgrades are underway
3. Northgate District
3
• Serves as the City’s primary entertainment district
• Represents the City’s only current urban character area.
• Subject of considerable planning along with substantial
public and private
4. 2011 Wastewater Master Plan
4
• Previous Master Plan
• Wastewater Master Plan last approved by City Council in June 2011
• Predicted a modest growth rate in the Northgate area
• Recent Surge of dense development in Northgate necessitated a closer
look
• 2013 Northgate Area Wastewater Master Plan Update
• Revised the map of expected density for the new paradigm
– How do the increased densities translate into additional
wastewater demands?
– Will additional improvements be needed to prevent
• surcharge conditions?

7. Future Projections
7
• Worked with Planning and Development Services to
develop a revised ‘Proposed Dwelling Unit Equivalent
(PDUE)’ for Northgate
• Derived Projected Build-Out System Demands
8. Hydraulic Modeling
8
• Used to verify that collection system is OK with
developments underway
• Ran scenarios using revised loading data to simulate
operating conditions and predict system performance in a
worst case scenario
9. Results
9
• Hensel Park Lift Station:
• Located in Hensel Park/Married Student Housing
• Serves all of Northgate
• Lift station will need to be expanded for a
• ‘build-out’ capacity of 2,800gpm
• (current capacity = 1,800 gpm)
• Currently planned for FY-16
• Total cost approx $2.3 million
10. Results (cont)
10
• Northeast Trunkline
• Spans from Northgate to CCWWTP
• Trunkline has adequate capacity for recent/anticipated
development projects
• With additional loading from Northgate area, line will
eventually need to be upsized
• Currently planned for FY-16/17/18
• Total cost approx $3.0 million
11. Results (cont)
11
• Additional Identified Pipe Segments
• Modeling scenarios identified that Culpepper Street and
Cooner Street sewer lines need to be upsized
• Both upgrades are ongoing
projects, Culpepper with
the ACC Development, and
Cooner with CDBG project
12. Results (cont)
12
• Exact timing is difficult to predict
• Will work with Planning & Development services to
track growth trends and update projections in the
Northgate District
• Currently evaluating a
customized “per person”
wastewater demand for
the Northgate
