This document discusses using virtual patients for scenario-based learning (SBL). It outlines components of SBL like tasks, triggers, scenarios, guidance, and feedback. SBL is good for developing critical thinking and decision-making skills. Unlike simulations, SBL focuses on the process rather than just the outcome. Expert cognitive task analysis and various forms of input can help design effective SBL scenarios. Examples of SBL cases are provided to illustrate virtual patients repurposed for this approach.
