You choose your path through the case, which unfolds in different ways. BUT the cases in Dynia are shorter and simpler, typically only 3-4 steps long and generally quite linear in style. However, there are still plenty of decisions to be made.
- Using SCT approach to VP mini-cases – If we visualize the VP case as a series of connected nodes or web pages. Moving downwards on each column, at each point, the learner has a set of (5 in this example but can be any number) choices. The thickness of the lines represents the number of experts who would choose that particular pathway. Left column – complete agreement – useless because the “correct” answer is the same for everyone. Same as an MCQ. Middle – ideal design with moderate agreement at each point. Majority of experts agree or are in concordance about a couple of options at each decision point, with few picking the other choices. Right – typical case with variable agreement. The first branch set is good with some but not total agreement. The second shows total agreement (answer too obvious? MCQ style?). The 3rd and 5th branches are good. The 4th set shows poor agreement (all the choices equally valid) – not so helpful.
