In this step of the course project you will observe your organism and document its ecology using the multimedia format you chose in your
Week One Forum
. Ecology is the interaction of a living organism with the biotic (living) and abiotic (non-living) factors in the environment. You will document how your organism lives, works (gains energy), and generally interacts with the environment. Potential methods of documentation include photography, video, and audio recording. You should attempt to collect as much original media (photos, videos) on your organism as possible and then supplement with resources found on the web.
Please remember your research is about observing your organism, not interacting with it! Please use common sense and do not put yourself in a potentially dangerous environment or trespass when making your observations

Presentation requirements:
Your presentation will be submitted as a weblink that you have created either from building a Prezi presentation or a Screencast-o-matic (SOM) of a slide presentation. Instructions for creating and uploading your presentation for either Prezi or SOM are below.
If your presentation is a Prezi it must contain 10 – 20 elements (what we would call slides in power point). If your presentation is an SOM is must contain 12 – 20 slides and be no longer than 15 minutes in length.
There must be a visual element (photos. videos).
There must be a narrative component (audio or written narration).
You will submit this presentation to your classmates to review and discuss as a part of the

Depending on the type of organism you have chosen you will address different sets of questions. Please see the category that responds to your selection.

In response to the variable effects of conservation efforts and loss of biodiversity, zoos began to
turn their attention to the conservation of endangered species and wildlife in the 1970s and
1980s. Supporting conservation efforts became an important goal for the modern zoo. A major
milestone towards this goal was the Convention on Biodiversity which was signed at the Earth
Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. As the modern zoo continues to focus its efforts towards
conservation, it has been seen by many as a sort of “Noah’s Ark”, primarily focused on
conserving the precious few endangered species. Unfortunately, genetic, ecosystem and
economic issues have created challenges for the conservation model of the modern zoo. Read the
following articles that expand on the conservation efforts of zoos and their use of technology
towards this goal.

Genetics
Research has shown that zoos currently hold about 15% of the endangered land animals in
captivity. There remains a continual struggle to breed these animals due to low numbers. A zoo’s
ability to maintain enough genetic variability among individual species is impossible and space
limitations prevent expansion to allow the influx of more animals.
Economics
The secondary goal for many zoos, that of reintroduction to the wild, also faces challenges due to
the costs involved, from financial to ecological. Animals living in captivity often lose the
necessary skills to survive in the wild once released.
Ecosystems
Lastly, the ecosystems into which the captive animals are eventually released are constantly
changing. Many factors may have affected their previous habitat, preventing the animal’s chance
at a successful re-introduction to the wild.
Education and Technology
Technology and education have also been identified as important components in maintaining the
biodiversity of the natural world. Zoos are in a unique position to educate the public about
conservation issues and they are continually looking for ways to convey this information to
visitors. The Metro Richmond Zoo uses video cam technology to encourage cheetah
conservation by streaming live footage of cheetah litters online. Viewers witness the day-to-day
lives of the cheetah cubs without human interference or disturbance.

Responses to the Environment
: your presentation must address if your organism responses to physical factors such as light, substrate texture or density.

Your presentation will be submitted as a weblink that you have created from building a Screencast-o-matic (SOM) of a slide presentation. Instructions for creating and uploading your presentation for SOM are below.

harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
