HOW TO GROW
SANDALWOOD NURSERY
Seed Biology
 No. of seeds per Kg: 5,000
 Purity percent: 78%
 Moisture percentage: 7.6%
 Germination percentage: 30%
 Plant percent: 15%
 No. of seedlings per Kg. of seed: 900-1000
SEASON OF SEED SOWING &TRANSPLANTING
 Sowing of seeds in 15December To 31 December
 Transplanting after 40-45days
Management of bed
 Bed Size 1*10 mtr and depth approx. 6inch
 Fill up by sand
 Make a tunnel like fig.
 500g of phorate (45%) should added to the bed to avoid nematode infection.
Seed Treatment
 Soaking Sandalwood seed in GA-3 (0.05%) for 16hrs & sown on bed
 GA-3 does 1/2gm per kg mix with 2ltr water per kg
Sandalwood seed Sowing method
 About 4 kg of seeds should be sown uniformly in the germination bed.
 Cover with Sand & Apply Husk (Puwal)above the bed after seed snowing .
 Watering after seed sowning .
 Watering twice daily based on moisture content of the bed
 Covering Polytunnel with White polytheen
 Open tunnel in the morning for 1 hrs . watering and then closed it .
 This process repeat daily basis
 Seed density 400g/sq. mt.

Sandalwood Seed Germination
Germination after 35
DAS
Stage of Transplanting
 2-4 leaf stage is the ideal stage for transplanting in poly beg or
transplanting start 40-45day after seed sowing .
 Transplanting in the evenings when the temperature are low
 Keep it in shade for a 5-6 days to avoid transplanting shock
 Ideal Polybag Size is 5*7 inch or 8*10 inch
Irrigation
 Watering of Sandalwood seedling on daily basis by Fogger or Mannual .
POTTING MIXTURE
 Sand soil and compost in 20:30:50 or 35:15:50 ration
 Mix properly Sand soil and compost in 20:30:50 ration .
 Fill in Polybag .
Host Transplantation
 Primary Host Alternanther nana or other host like -
Mimosa pudica (touch me not) and Cajanus cajan seeds
is planted after 10days
 Require host cutting 15-20 days interval
Mimosa pudica
Alternanther nana
Nutrition management:
 Drenching NPK (19:19:19) on seedling @2gm/ltr at 10
days interval
 Drenching Micronutrient on seedling @2ml /ltr at 10
days interval
 This Drenching are required at 10 day interval until the
plant is ready for transplanting
 Frist Drenching start after 20 day of seedling
transplanting in polybag
Pest management:
 Spray Carbandazim on seedling @2gm/ltr for 10days
interval
 Spray Chorophyriphos on seedling @2ml /ltr for 10days
interval
 This Insecticide & fungicide spray are continue until
the seedling are ready to transplant .
 Frist Spray start after 10 day of seedling transplanting
in polybag .
Grading of seedlings:
 Greater than 25 cm height and 3.0mm collar diameter are ready for
planting
 Greater than 20cm height and less than 3.0mm diameter require
supplementary nutrition
 Less than 20 cm height and 2.5 mm collar diameter are to be culled out
Stage of Planting in Field
 Healthy Sandalwood seedlings of about 30 cm in
height and 3-4 mm in collar diameter are planted
in pits .
