or hear that word. Is the instruction clear?
Yes, sir
We’re ready to play!
Alright then let’s start.
For our first word, can someone answer and tell me
what comes into your mind about this word?
Me, sir!
I know the answer, sir
Me, me, me!
Yes, _____.
Exactly. Thank you for your answer, _____.
For our next picture, can someone answer this?
The answer is Plumbing and what comes into my
mind is this is a system of pipes or conduits used to
carry water from its source to the desired
destination.
Impressive! Thank you, _____. How about this
next picture?
Sir, for me the answer is Water and I always think
water as a colorless and odorless substance found
all over Earth. Water is also essential to humans as
we use it in our everyday lives for drinking,
cooking, bathing, and other activities.
The answer for the third picture is Tools. Tools are
any instrument or simple piece of equipment that
you hold in your hands and use to do a particular
kind of work.
Correct answer, _____. How about our second to
the last picture? Can you try and guess?
Your answer is correct. Thank you, _____. For
our final slide, can someone answer it?
Maintenance is correct. Thank you, _____. And
thank you to all who participated and answered.
B. ACTIVITY
May I ask the whole class if they are familiar with
hand tools?
Equipment is the correct answer for this slide, sir.
The definition of equipment is it is a kind of
machine or apparatus or appliances that is used to
make a specific task possible.
For this final slide, the answer is Maintenance.
Maintenance means keeping something in good
condition. It makes the thing we are keeping in
good shape and functional.
Yes, sir.
I am familiar, sir.
What are hand tools, sir?
Hand tools are any tool that is powered by hand
rather than a motor. With that, our class will be
divided into five (5) groups. Each group will have
two printed image of tools and a representative will
explain the tools loudly. The other groups will then
try to guess the tool the representative is
describing. The group can answer by raising their
hands and wait for their signal before answering. Is
the instruction clear?
Let’s begin.
Yes, sir.
We understand, sir.
Group 1: Pipe Cutter and Pipe Vise
Our first tool is used for slicing or cutting pipes.
Our other tool is used to hold pipes or tubing secure
while they're cut or threaded.
Group 2: Pipe Wrench and Hacksaw
Our first tool has serrated jaws, one of which is
pivoted on the handle to create a strong gripping
action. The second tool is used to cut through
materials such as metals and pipes.
Group 3: Pipe Bending Machine and Water Pump
Pliers
Used in plumbing trade, our first tool is used for
bending and shaping pipes. While our second tool
is used for clamping the pump hub or pulley while
unscrewing the fan.
Group 4: Threading Dies and Chain Wrench

size nuts and bolts.
That is right, _____. I understand there are
different types of spanners mentioned on our
module. Can someone name them?
Fantastic! Thank you, _____. Those are the
different types of Ring Spanners. Their differences
usually can be found in their appearance where
some have open jaws while others have hexagonal
rings. For our last tool, can someone give me its
name and function?
Sir, there are four types of Ring Spanners: Ring
Spanners, Open-Ended Spanners, Combination
Spanners, and Bi-Hexagonal Ring Spanners.
This tool is called Plumb Bob. It is the most
common tool in construction and house drainage
works. Plumb Bob is used to check the vertical
alignment of any members or pipes.
Plumb Bob is the name of this tool. Thank you,
_____. I believe you know our most common
plumbing tools and equipment. Now, after
identifying our tools, let’s study how we can store
and maintain them properly.
We have here five (5) tips on how store and
maintain our tools and equipment. The first tip is to
Store Tools in the Toolbox. You should have big
toolbox so that you can easily find your tools when
doing a project. When storing the toolbox and your
tools, always keep them in a room-temperature
environment with low humidity. No direct sunlight
should land on the equipment.
Why do we need to be careful about humidity?
That is correct. Thank you, ______. For the second
tip, Inspect Your Tools Thoroughly. During your
inspections, you’ll be looking to make sure that
there are no outwardly visible issues. This can
include chips and cracks or equipment that is
broken. If there are any problems, you’ll need to fix
or repair them.
Why are regular inspections important for our
tools?
That is the main reason why we inspect our tools.
Good thinking, ______. Thank you.
For our third tip, we have to Clean Our Equipment
Regularly. Ideally, you should clean your
equipment after every job. This may not be
possible during busier days, but you can still wipe
down your equipment between jobs.
Humidity can cause rust to our tools, making them
blunt and broken, sir.
Sir, regular inspections keep you aware of the state
of your equipment. You also don’t have to worry
about your tools falling on you during work.
How do we keep our hand and power tools in good
shape?
That is correct, ______. Thank you for that. For our
fourth tip, we have Care for Your Power Tools.
Power tools can be battery powered. In these cases,
you need to be careful about how you store them.
If you don’t need to use a power tool for an
extended period of time, then remove the batteries
until you need the tool.
In power tools, what else do we check before using
them?
Precisely! Thank you for that, _____. For our last
tip, you need to Care for your Hand Tools.
Maintaining your hand tools and sharpening the
blades on a regular basis will help them last longer.
Those are the tips we need to remember when
storing our tools and equipment. Doing these tips
will ensure your tools and equipment will be
functional and can be used for longer period of
time.
Before storing your tools, you also need to
remember five (5) methods in identifying
functional to non-functional tools. Can someone
give me the first one?
Hand and power tools will need a different
cleaning regimen as well. These need to be
lubricated regularly to ensure that they work well,
sir.
You should also keep an eye on the power tools to
see if the cords are fraying. Fraying or exposed
wires can cause electrocution and fire related
accidents.
That is right. Thank you, ______. This is the
physical appearance of the tools. Whether it has
broken handle or chipped blade. What is our
second method?
That is correct, ______. That means there might be
loose screws or there are debris that went inside
your tool or equipment. For our third method, we
have Performance. What do we mean about this
method?
Precisely! This makes your work easier and safer.
Now, can someone give us the fourth method on
checking which tools are functional and non-
functional?
That is correct. Thank you, _____. When these
tools malfunction, the worker may also be
electrocuted and may cause danger. Now for the
last method, we have Person’s Involved. This
The first one is Visual Inspection. It refers to the
visual observation of an expert on the appearance
of the tools and equipment.
The second method is Functionality. Vibration or
extra noise from the operation means problems on
parts and accessories started to develop.
When there is something wrong with the
performance of either hand tools or equipment,
they need an immediate repair or maintenance, sir.
Sir, the next one is Power Supply. This is
applicable to electrically operated equipment.
Failure to meet standard power supply may cause
harm to the worker.
refers to the technical person who has the
knowledge and skills about the technology. This
means yourself and the understanding you have
towards your tools.
In our discussion, I truly see that you understand
our lesson and you study our module in advanced.
Good job, class.
D. ABSTRACTION/GENERALIZATION
Before concluding our lesson, let’s check our
understanding of the lesson we discussed. Can you
give me the six (6) classification of tools in
plumbing? Yes, ______?
That is correct. Can someone give me the tools we
discussed today? You’re raising your hand, _____
Thank you, _____. Do you believe it is important
to check if our tools are functioning or not? What
is your idea, ______?
That is correct. Thank you for that, ______.
There are six (6) classifications namely Measuring,
Holding, Cutting, Driving, Boring, and Electrical
tools, sir.
Yes, sir. We have Pipe Cutter, Pipe Vise, Pipe
Wrench, Hacksaw, Pipe Bending Machine, Water
Pump Pliers, Threading Dies, Chain Wrench, Set
of Common Ring Spanners and Plumb Bob.
For me, it is really important to check our tools, sir.
It creates a safer and efficient work practice to the
plumber and the client.
E. APPLICATION
For this part of our discussion, you are tasked to do
placards or signs that reminds plumbers to store
their tools and equipment properly. You can use
bond paper or colored paper. In writing, make sure
your letters are big and bold. You may use crayons,
pencil, ballpen, and markers. Are the instructions
clear?
F. EVALUATION
For our final activity, I am going to ask you to look
at the television/projector. Flashed are tools that
may or may not be functional. Using your
checklist, you should be able to identify the tools
based on the methods we discussed a while ago.
Just put a check on the column if the tool met the
standards. Are the instructions, clear?
(The teacher flashes 10 pictures and students will
identify their classification based on the checklist
they have in hand)
Yes, sir.
Got it, sir.
Yes, sir.
Got it, sir.
