2. Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental disorder
that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves.
People with schizophrenia may seem like they have lost
touch with reality. Although schizophrenia is not as
common as other mental disorders, the symptoms can
be very disabling.
4. • A diagnosis of schizophrenia is not a life-sentence of ever-
worsening symptoms and hospitalizations.
• Recovery is possible.
• In fact, the majority of people with schizophrenia get better over
time, not worse.
• For every five people who develop schizophrenia:1 will get better
within five years of their first symptoms.
• 3 will get better, but will still have times when their symptoms
get worse.
• 1 will continue to have troublesome symptoms.
5.
6. As per NMC (2008), the people suffering from
schizophrenia are not perceived well by the
society and are often thought as mad
people. Therefore, they are isolated and
also suffer from emotional and mental
breakdown in many cases.
7. There is no specific cure for the schizophrenia as
of now but its treatment is a lifelong process. The
patients need an efficient schizophrenia
treatment plan along with medication, self-help
and therapy.
