Walter Mitty Identity
Both The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Lamb to the Slaughter analyze human s ways of achieving
self acceptance. Walter Mitty s persona is not considered appropriate by people around him, so as a
result, he daydreams to accept his true character. On the contrary, Mary Maloney s self love is built
upon the presence of her husband, so when he decided to leave, her whole world shattered.
In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty , James Thurber explores the topic of self acceptance through the
protagonist s daydreams, to demonstrate the strategy of accepting oneself through fantasies when
society s values oppose one s behavior. In Lamb to the Slaughter , Mary Maloney s dependence on
Patrick for happiness implies that one often relies heavily on others in order to attain self acceptance
and adopt a socially fitting identity.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty presents us with a character who finds his escape through fantasies to
suggest that when one s unable to stand up against harassers, imagination and dreams will nourish
confidence and self image. For instance, at the end of the story, Walter Mitty s use of the words erect
and motionless , proud and disdainful , Walter Mitty the Undefeated, inscrutable to the last suggests

maintained a cellophane, fabricated persona, with the center of everything being her

Overview of the Fall Prevention Program
The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint
Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several
definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall
is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground
or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of
injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious
consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death.
With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the
aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the
identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can
be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience
According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental
deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the
injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. To highlight the seriousness
of the issue, the commission further points out that the number of deaths associated with

The Face Of Lennon By John Lennon
The Face of Lennon Help! Help! Help! The Beatles faced plenty of highs and plenty of lows
throughout their careers, and the transition between each stage was always shaky and lined with
turmoil. Perhaps the most evident of these transitions was between the years of 1964 and 1965. In this
period, songs from A Hard Day s Night and Help! clearly show that John Lennon, a member of the
group since the very beginning, was facing difficult, emotional times. These three songs speak
volumes for the trouble that Lennon was going experiencing: You Can t Do That , You ve Got To Hide
Your Love Away , and It s Only Love . The first of these songs is the one that helps to set the stage for
next two: You Can t Do That . Released as a part of the album A Hard Day s Night in 1964, this song
is a product of Lennon s surroundings more than a product from Lennon himself. Having first touched
down in the United States on February 7, 1964, John fell in love with it all. Since Rock and Roll was
on its last leg in the States, the Beatles were welcomed with excitement and a wave of energy. Despite
only having stayed until February 22, Lennon was moved by the momentum the United States gave
them. Only three days later, the Beatles went on to record You Can t Do That on February 25. Written
by the ever impressionable John, this song clearly reflects the burst of energy brought about from the
trip to the States and his love for American Rock. This song uses the most basic and iconic percussive

Problem Of Homelessness In The United States
Homelessness. It s a problem all over the United States, a problem all over Missouri, and a problem all
over the entire St. Louis area. About 30% of people who are chronically homeless have mental health
conditions about 50% have co occurring substance use problems. A lot of those homeless individuals
do have jobs, in fact almost half (44%) of homeless people have jobs. This shows that there is more to
homelessness than just not having a home. Although those that are homeless do have jobs most of
them don t pay enough, to get homeless individuals in better paying jobs programs need to be made to
help the homeless get over their addictions, help them get rid of the effects of their mental illnesses,
and help them get an education.

Computer Operating Systems And The Computer System
The computer operating system is one of the biggest changes we are seeing in today s world. With the
rise of the cloud, digital software delivery and applications, the computer operating system is playing
catch up to these new trends. The center of the computer as always been the operating system and the
Graphical User Interface that comes with it. Computer operating systems have come from a past of no
User interface and being a command line base to the modern day Windows 8 and Mac OS s of
application based. If operating systems focus on Applications, cloud and digital downloads for
software, this approach will take the computer operating systems into the next twenty years of
computing. Computer Operating systems used to the center of a Vendors development. In the modern
era, mobile Operating systems have become the focal point with computer operating systems taking
the back seat. The computer operating system must match the experience and eco system of the
mobile devices. Focusing on the Graphical user interface will help create that experience, from the
application tile to the scrolling and how a user handles features will be key on developing the
computer operating system of the future. The problem with a classical approach to computer operating
systems is the fact that being mobile and being connected to data do not go together. People are

The Bodybuilding Subculture
In addition, to become a member of the bodybuilding subculture one has to be committed to the sport
and to their body. By bodybuilding, I m referring to the drive which some call it an obsession, for
physique perfection including huge amounts of muscle mass and low levels of body fat. Included in
this description is also the drive for maximum intensity both in and out of the gym. In bodybuilding
there has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream to others as a way
to grab people s attention and let them know that you are not normal, that is how you become a
member of this subculture. The average gym lifter has to view a bodybuilder as peculiar when they see
them squatting 500 pounds or bench pressing 300 pounds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These groups of people who share an interest and often obsession for building muscle make it a
priority on exercising and eating a proper diet that will help them create more muscle and transform
their bodies. The majority of bodybuilders share the same mentality in a way that all have an insatiable
appetite for the perfect muscular body, one that some non bodybuilders deem as a bizarre and even
freakish art form. This group of individuals has pride in being eccentric and different from the normal
in the aspect of changing their body in order to construct and shaping the body in a way most desire
but are not motivated to make a difference in their lifestyle. As the majority of bodybuilders spend a
large amount of time in the gym exercising, because it takes time and dedication in order to go down
the path of a body transformation, something that most non bodybuilders don t understand, they
expect their bodies to change from one day to the next. And as soon as they do not see results they
give up, it takes years of practice to see results. After everything that I have seen and learned it has
made me want to become a part of the subculture, there is so much to learn from them in building
muscle and transforming the body, there is an abundance of knowledge behind lifting a weight and
knowing the proper techniques in reaching the perfect muscle

Vulnificus Essay
V. vulnificus causes disease in individuals who eat contaminated seafood or contaminating an open
wound or even a tiny scratch with seawater containing the organism. Because of the high
multiplication rate of the pathogen, wound infections may quickly progress to necrotizing fasciitis and
even secondary septicemia (Bier et al. 2015a). Babolsar is a coastal city in Iran. This investigation was
performed as the public awareness of the existence of the bacterium in the regions under study. Shaw
et al. (Shaw et al. 2014) reported that V. vulnificus strains were detected from all sampling locations in
Chesapeake Bay and Maryland Coastal Bays. Paydar and Thong (Paydar and Thong 2013) reported a

The abundance of V. vulnificus in coastal water was strongly correlated to water temperature. The
isolation of cultivable forms is limited to the warmest months. Maugeri TL et al reported that V.
vulnificus was isolatd only when the water temperature was between 20 to 21.5°C (Maugeri et al.
2006). In the present study, the bacterium was isolated during the summer season (average water
temperature of 25°C). It seems that this finding can show association of the cultivable forms on high
water temperature. In the current research, V. vulnificus was not found in any samples obtained in the
spring (average water temperature of 15°C). In the Gulf of Mexico V. vulnificus was not isolated when
seawater temperatures were 14°C (Pfeffer et al. 2003).When the water temperatures reach to less than
13°C, V. vulnificus strains enter the VBNC state in which they are metabolically active but unable to
reproduce on common culture media (Nowakowska and Oliver 2013, Wu et al. 2016). In conclusion,
with regard to the presence of V. vulnificus in the area under study, the bacterium may cause disease in

and to effectively remain calm through their panic. In exposure therapy they are exposed to panic in a
controlled environment where the patients can learn safe and healthy ways of coping. Medication
therapy is important. Antidepressants are giving for long term therapy and take a few weeks to start
working, so that is when the benzodiazepines come in. They act quickly and are given to give rapid
relief to symptoms during a panic

The Hiding Place Analysis
Title: Huff.Session1.Journal When I was a young girl, I remember going to the movie theaters to see a
movie called The Hiding Place . This movie was the story of Corrie Tin Boom, a Christian girl in Nazi
Germany whose family was sent to a concentration camp for helping Jews hide from the Nazis. It
inspired in me love for the Lord and helped cultivate a sense of God s presence in human suffering
where there is a will to survive. I left the theater at the end of the movie in tears! Our love for God
comes from His love for us. We love because He first loved us. 1John 4:19 ESV If we love God with
all our being, we may at times go outside our God given boundaries. Would this not be sin or
trespassing? But He forgives, and

Teachers In High Risk Schools
This research will explore what support system teachers need to remain in high risk schools. The
general problem is approximately 30% of new teachers leave the education profession within 5 years
of starting their career (Darling Hammond Sykes, 2003; Ingersoll, 2001, 2003). In high risk schools,
the percentage is 20% higher, which causes inconsistencies in instruction (Darling Hammond Sykes,
2003; Ingersoll, 2001, 2003). According to previous studies, young, new teachers leave the education
profession before retirement age (Veldman, van Tarwjik, Brekelmans, Wubbels 2013). The specific
problem is teacher turnover harms student achievement (Ronfelft, Loeb, Wyckoff, 2013). In

Not Being Earnest in The Importance of Being Earnest...
Not Being Earnest in The Importance of Being Earnest
While some critics contend that The Importance of Being Earnest is completely fanciful and has no
relation to the real world, others maintain that Oscar Wilde s trivial comedy for serious people does
make significant comments about social class and the institution of marriage. These observations
include the prevalent utilization of deceit in everyday affairs. Indeed the characters and plot of the
play appear to be entirely irreverent, thus lending weight to the comedic, fanciful aspect. However,
this same factor also serves to illuminate the major points that Wilde tries to convey about the English
society in which he lived. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wilde s conception of deceit as an accepted custom in English aristocracy is also existent in this scene.
The practice of Bunburying is established, an act where each man lies to his family about an
imaginary invalid friend present somewhere else, in an attempt to pursue leisure activities elsewhere.
It is in this discussion that Jack admits to his friend Algernon that he has been lying to his friend in
order to maintain the disguise. Thus, it seems as though the very relationship between the two men is
founded on deceit. Later in this act, Lady Bracknell and Gwendolyn are introduced. Even though Lady
Bracknell is married, it is obvious that the two women are merely female counterparts of Algy and
Jack. Both spend the day making visits to others in their social sphere, as Algy and Jack do, holding
these visits with utmost importance.
It is at this point, also, that the reader is presented with Wilde s views of marriage practices. Earlier in
the scene, when Ernest(Jack) announces his intention of proposing to Gwendolyn, Algernon does not
congratulate him, rather he denounces the entire institution. At Ernest s announcement of the proposal,
Algy exclaims, I thought you had come up for pleasure? I call that business . Later, Algy s comments
support the idea of adultery once one is married. When Ernest finally does propose to Gwendolyn, he
first must proceed through established flirting rituals

Billy Collins
Life as A Day There are no two people who will have the same life; the number of years, experiences,
and quality of life are just a few of the things that may change/differ from one person to the next.
However, life will always have a beginning and an end; the day(s) in between those two points is what
makes up a lifetime. In the poem Days by Billy Collins, the temperance of life is portrayed as a day
from start to finish as being synonymous of a lifetime; in other words, life is short and ever changing.
Carpe Diem is what might be said by some. The poem Days is how Billy Collins encourages readers
to seize the day. Each stanza expresses the importance and value of a single day; becoming
increasingly more evident with each line. The transitory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The narrator describes the dawn of a new day as, Today begins cold and bright / the ground heavy
with snow (Collins 5 6). The visual imagery of heavy snow tells the reader that each new day is pure
and a new beginning. Bright and cold is a reference to birth; this is how each day begins. The changes
exhibited through the use of imagery are indicative of the changes that take place throughout a
lifetime. It is easy to visualize each day when the narrator says, this day might be resting somehow /
on the one before it, / all the days of the past stacked high / like the impossible tower of
dishes/entertainers used to build on stage. (Collins 12). The image of each dish placed on top of
another dish compels the reader to see how life has become more complicated, impossible to keep
forever balanced. The imagery used here is much different than the metaphor of fresh snow. This is
how the author expresses time passing, and life is happening. The sense that life is coming to an end is
felt when the narrator says, then holding your breath, / place this cup on yesterday s saucer (Collins 22
23). The imagery prompts the reader to feel uncertainty about the likeliness of another day, but at the
same time wishing very badly for more time. Collins uses imagery to illustrate the fragility of
existence and humanity s quiet desperation to keep going. The poem

Breakthroughs In Biotechnology Research
Biotechnology to extend age in humans
Biotechnology is used everyday to change life, as we know it. In fact, people don t realize that early
humans used biotechnology 10,000 years ago. Early humans were producing beer, wine, bread, and
yogurt by means of fermentation. Biotechnology is any technique that uses organisms or their
products to make a new product, to improve the life of humans or to develop microorganisms for
specific scientific uses (Paul Cooley, 2014). As early as 1500 BC humans were storing plants with
certain traits such as disease resistance in order to selectively breed certain plants with certain traits to
better their lives (Jeffrey Kruck Langland, 1999). A huge breakthrough in biotechnology was the
creation of penicillin in 1942 (Paul Cooley 2014). This was a huge breakthrough and it save a lot of
lives from disease during World War II. According to Paul Cooley (2014) in 1980 biotechnology was
used to rid the world of smallpox. Much disease such as breast cancer has been discovered through
biotechnology such as breast cancer and Parkinson s disease (Paul Cooley, 2014). They found these
diseases to be gene related. In 1997 a sheep was cloned from a single adult cell through biotechnology
(Paul, Cooley, 2014). Biotechnology has been a very important part in many ways to human life, but
most people do not realize that Biotechnology may extend human life and create a better world of
organisms. Biotechnology affects agriculture, the energy used to power

Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless
Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer
sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and
experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling
corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although
Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts
from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is
trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common connections such as
similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at a young age.
Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled by a reckless
persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in total isolation
troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural world. The mutual
bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the writing in the novel sincere
enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound authority and truth. Unconditional
understanding through shared paternal issues, agitation of the soul, and need for human contact grants
Krakauer access to divulge into the conundrum of Chis McCandless and authority to earnestly narrate
the mysterious

Taking a Look at Evolutionary Psychology
Evolutionary Psychology is a practice of social and natural sciences that studies human characteristics
through the lens of modern evolutionary theory. This is exactly what Dunbar and his colleges attempt
to do with the family in their book. The discussion of the family has to start with defining what parent
involvement actually is. The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use Robert Trivers
definition from 1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases
the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest in other offspring . This
means that if a parent of a individual uses any of their resources to help improve their child s chance
of survival, meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second circumstance for infanticide is if the child is born with severe disabilities or deformities
for the simple reason of is the child worth the investment. Is involved in a child s life who is going to
require more of an investment that an average child, and still highly unlikely to reproduce worth it?
Twins are a similar circumstance. Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not having adequate
resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could be logical in this situation so the
parents could invest heavily into one of the twins to help ensure the best opportunity for the child
throughout life as opposed to dividing the resources in half. This leads into the last circumstance,
which is just not having the adequate amount of resources to raise even a single child. This practice is
exemplified to the rate of aborted children or children sent to orphanages in young single women, or
old married women who have had several children prior. Also discussed is how unique the human
family is. Human fathers are involved in their children s lives more than any other species and humans
are the only species where grandparents exist. The explanation for these occurrences are that the
human infant is so dependant that it needs the support of more than just a mother, and even just the
mother and father in some cases. The occurrence of grandparents can also be explained by the
phenomenon of menopause. The human

How should Marianne Barner respond to the invitation for Ikea to have representative appear on the

all the actions that IKEA has been taking to fight against child labor, including the incorporation of a

leadership and support. But unfortunately it was mostly being led by Ahmed Mohammed a fourteen
year old freshman high school. I do believe that this a big issue in a lot of places, with all the races. I
believe that society has become so focused on the outside appearance of things, and listening to the

On Wednesday, August 28th in the year 1963, a historical first step was taken at the Washington

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This march was organized by civil rights activists
who shared a common objective: the social and economic equality of Americans. One such activist

half the activist and orator that King was would be amazing, and I aspire to be as influential as he is in
the world of United States politics. I think that if I was allowed the opportunity to witness the march,
one of the largest and arguably most influential in America s history, I would be further inspired to
embark on the pathway toward a political career. Although this protest was not an official effort by the
United State s government itself, I believe events like this are what make the foundation of our
government. Our government should stay true to a reflection of the people s values and beliefs, and
this march forced the government to stay true to it s people in the best way possible. The leaders of
this march were people who shaped political history as well, and continue to do so. For example, John
Lewis was, at the time of the March on Washington, a chairman of the Student Nonviolent
Coordinating Committee. Today, half a century later, he is an active member of the House of
Representatives. Did John Lewis know that this march would cement his place in the halls of history
for centuries to come? Attending this march was so powerful it shaped the course of people s lives. If I
got the chance to witness it, would that give me the inspiration to

Emergency Department Boarding
Emergency Department boarding of psychiatric patients continues to be a major problem for hospitals.
Due to the lack of inpatient psych beds, interventions and alternatives have been installed by affected
hospitals to alleviate crowding. Also, in state level policies and increase funding for mental health to
ease this problem is also in effect. Not only that these systems in place ease the stay of mentally ill
patients, but also the remaining of its population. Since wait times for psychiatric beds to be ready for

Compare And Contrast Marshall And Ebeye
In 1944, the Marshall Islands were taken by the U.S from Japan, where they built a missile base in
Kwajalein. Marshallese were known as the masters of the pacific because of the navigations they
created and their nutrition which consisted of vitamins and minerals that they grew; breadfruit, taro,
fish, minerals, and bananas. On March 1st, 1954 the biggest bomb exploded, having the Marshallese
to think the powder was from heaven so they began to rub it on their skins, leading to severe burns.
After the U.S Marshall s treated the Marshallese they decided room was needed to do studies on their
island, so they made them relocate. Kwajalein became an American middle class neighborhood while
Ebeye developed to poverty. This relocation affected their health and made them urbanized. Ebeye
became over populated, infrastructure was neglected to create poverty and they became disease prone.

Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate Essay
Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate
In the United States, over 245 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) was produced by
consumers in 2005. This is approximately 4.5 pounds of trash per person per day.[3] This same year,
79 million tons of waste were recycled, a dramatic increase from 15 million tons in 1980.[3] Of the
total MSW in 2003,11.1% (26.7 million tons) was plastic. Although only 3.9% of plastics disposed in
2003 were recycled, PET was recovered at a rate of 25%.[4]
There are six classifications of plastics, each assigned a number. Numbers 1 and 2 are commonly
recycled, 4 is recycled less, and the others are generally not recycled. The first is polyethylene
terephthalate (PET).[2] PET is commonly used in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The plastic Grace and I chose was polyethylene terephthalate. It is used for water and soft drink
bottles, peanut butter jars, and other impact resistant bottles as well as textiles.[1] PET is a semi
crystalline, thermoplastic polyester.[6] Its mechanical properties include excellent tensile and impact
strength, chemical resistance, clarity, processability, color ability and thermal stability. PET is
mechanically processed by extrusion, injection molding, and blow molding.[1] The post consumer
PET recycling industry was initiated by the fact that it is non degradable in nature, since its molecules
are too large to decompose.[1] There are four methods of processing PET: primary, mechanical,
chemical, and energy recovery.[6] Primary recycling is the most popular, inexpensive method as it
deals only with uncontaminated, clean waste PET. This ensures a quality product. Mechanical
recycling of PET consists of contamination removal and extrusion into the appropriate shape for the
desired use after recycling. In contamination removal, the PET bottles are sorted, ground into flakes,
and washed. PVC must be separated from bottles in order to keep the product as pure as possible.[1]
After grinding, flakes are washed with water and detergent or a solvent. Flakes must be dried
thoroughly in order to obtain a quality product. Finally, flakes are

Orr And Zuk Summary
In this chapter, Orr and Zuk explains the importance of ornaments of males and the mechanism behind
sexual selection. The questions that they seek to answer involve the fact that why are the males
fighting during mating season, and the ones with the colorful ornaments. In both human and animal
relationship, there are many similarities, such as the fact that the male fights for the female such as
their masculinity or traits that females look for whether an animal or a human. Darwin in The Origin
explained that sexual selection involves competition, but for mating instead of fighting for survival, in
The Descent went on to explain the relevance of the traits like the peacock tails. Ornaments that males
have don t usually serve a purpose but usually becomes detrimental. Having a tail like peacocks or
coloration can slow down the peacock or makes the animal open to predation due to the large amounts

preference then becomes locked with the trait, putting an advantage over the least preferential

Internal Conflicts In Alice Walker s The Color Purple
As individuals, we must understand ourselves and our personal struggles. As part of a society, we must
understand how we fit into the world around us. Consequently, we must then bridge the gap between
these two ideas. In the film adaptation of Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the main character, Celie,
discovers her individuality overtime, as she eventually finds her niche among others (Spielberg,
1985). Through incorporating both internal conflicts and how a person relates with the external
society, The Color Purple acts as a transitional piece, linking the unit of conflicts of self to the unit of
conflicts involving groups.
The Color Purple examines several aspects of unit one, including the difference between singular or
multiple perspectives and the subsequent impact of adding more perspectives to an issue. As
discovered in unit one, the principle of Occam s Razor, which usually favors a singular perspective,
holds that entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity, but this thought process often
oversimplifies the issue by disregarding certain aspects or details of a situation (The Editors of
Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015). As if adhering to Occam s Razor, Celie in the film, rather than
further complicate her situation, chooses the path of least resistance by living the majority of her early
to mid life viewing her circumstance with a singular perspective in which the society holds that she
has no choice, but to conform to its sexist expectations (Spielberg, 1985). However, Sofia and Shug
provide new, additional perspectives that fuse together in the formation of a cyclopean image, which
gives Celie greater awareness of her situation (The Cyclopean View, n.d.; Spielberg, 1985). Through
gaining these multiple perspectives, Celie realizes the abuse she suffers and decides to take initiative
against them, eventually embracing her inner individuality and no longer submitting to the whims of
every man she encounters, as society would expect a black woman of the time to do (Spielberg, 1985).
By unveiling the power of multiple perspectives in comparison to a singular perspective, The Color
Purple coincides with a predominant topic of unit one.
Undoubtedly, The Color Purple touches on the seeming thesis

Essay Of Fight Club And Memento
Critical Essay by Agnes Bruinsma 385859 When you have insomnia, you re never really asleep... and
you re never really awake (Fight Club, date). The neo noir movies Fight Club (1999) and Memento
(2001) illustrate a reality, as seen by the protagonists. However, what exactly is reality? This issue is
employed skilfully in both Fight Club and Memento, which makes them interesting to watch and
analyse. The Usual Suspects, another neo noir film, also employs the issue reality in the narrative but,
it differs from Fight Club and Memento, as reality is twisted by intention. This critical essay will take
a look at the different causes for a distorted reality, how the protagonists receive reality, the use of
narrative to create a distorted reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These twists lets one question everything that just happened. In Fight Club, the narrator finds out that
Tyler Durden is not another men, but him. This changes the whole context. The audience has no idea
that Tyler Durden is the narrator, as they are most likely captivated by his chaotic, sociopathic and
masculine character. Once finding out the truth, one needs to rethink the entire film. Every scene has a
different meaning once finding out that Tyler and the narrator are one. In Memento Leonard is
confronted by Teddy a cop and his friend that Sammy Jankis the men Leonard often talks about is
actually him. He tells Leonard that he has been lying to himself in order to be happy and that he is
chasing a men who he believes is John G. Teddy furthermore suggests that actually has created a
different reality in which he is chasing John G, in order to cope with the fact that his condition killed
his wife. When Leonard later gets in his car and askes himself Do I lie to myself to be happy?
(Memento, 2000), which he admits, a distortion in reality is justified by himself. He then makes Teddy
the new John G, which changes the way the audience looks at Leonard.
To conclude, both Fight Club and Memento use an unconventional narrative structure and tell thrilling
stories. The movies enchant the viewers from the beginning with their absorbing storylines. The
distortion of reality is created by protagonist with different views on reality,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Politics In The English Language
In George Orwell s Politics in the English Language, the author makes the point that politics are
distorted as a result of improper use of the English language. He breaks the issue down into four main
sources: dying metaphors, verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. He uses
these points to prove specifically what must be done in order to fix modern English. Orwell does this
through his use of rhetorical devices such as asyndeton and metaphor, which both demonstrate the
idea that he aims to convey.
George Orwell uses asyndeton to prove how unnecessary the employment of specific writing
techniques is when one is trying to get a point across to an audience. Instances of this can be found in
the portion of the essay in which Orwell takes apart the idea of pretentious diction. He uses asyndeton
to list a vast multitude of words phenomenon, element, individual (as noun), objective, categorical,
effective, virtual, basic, primary, promote, constitute, exhibit, exploit, utilize, eliminate, liquidate
which fall under the category of pretentious. The way that the words are listed without any break
between them eventually becomes monotonous. This demonstrates Orwell s idea that pretentious
diction, (Orwell) results in a more blurred understanding of points that are being made. The robotic
tone given off by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of The Poem We Real Cool
First Response Journal # 2 The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, to summarize is about
how the pool players (line 1) do not entirely care about school, and really anything that is remotely
good leaving them all to relish in the uncertainty of their demise. In the first stanza is where there is
more substance, with we real cool. We / Left school. (lines 3 4), creating the image of the pool players
leaving school, possibly having dropped out. The second stanza lets the reader know that the players
are spending their time out late, with the lines Lurk late. We / Strike straight. (lines 5 6) and not up to
anything good. The third stanza is where the players start to celebrate all the mischief they have
caused by drinking the sorrows away, in the lines Sing sin. We / Thin gin. (lines 7 8). The last stanza
Jazz June. We / Die soon. (lines 9 10) is focused on the realization on how it might be Summer, but are
not aware, since other individuals do not believe that they should be alive much longer, from their bad
habits and everything in between. My analysis on the poem, We Real Cool on the first read through
was how real it became. Even though this poem was quite short, it packed a ton of meaning into a
small amount of space. The main purpose I conclude of this poem was how those that go out and
party, caring more about what their friends are doing then their school work. These types of people
with this mindset is not going to fundamentally help in the long run. So being cool is not all it is
cracked up to be and those that want to be cool need to realize all the good and bad that come along
with it. Not going to class because of deciding not to go is a critical piece of the puzzle to the path of
wanting to succeed versus choosing to not succeed. We are all in control of our life to an extent and
can make our own choices to create change, it s what we decide to do with it, that matters. The poem
Rite of Passage by Sharon Olds is focused on a young boy s birthday party, coming from the Mother s
perspective and how the young boys are overly competitive. This poem breaks down into a
representation of what the mother perceives will be the children at the party in the future. The mother

Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings
Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered
to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice,
there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and
ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is
not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011).
The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in
patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs
are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area
(Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a
practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from
disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else
unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a
distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word
applications. Evidence based practice (EBP) is broader than research utilization and incorporates
research findings with other factors (Polit Beck, 2012). Many factors work to either facilitate

The 1982 movie Gandhi, starring Ben Kingsley and Candice Bergen had both strengths and
weaknesses. One of the movies weaknesses was that it left a lot of gaps. It is understandable why they
had to leave a lot of gaps. The movie was supposed to depict the whole life of Gandhi. If they had of

longer than three plus hours. I just think that they could have better picked and chosen which parts to

Now to discuss my opinion of the 1982 movie Gandhi. In my opinion the 1982 movie Gandhi was
extremely inspirational. Most movies now days are just about things that appeal to the majority of
people who actually go watch, buy, or download movies: people under the age of 40. They stream
ideas and philosophies common and relatable to these people. Gandhi is a movie that I feel was
strictly objective. It presented the facts in a way that it was only the facts. Also, I think that the 1982
movie Gandhi was very interesting. The movie though very long, held my attention the majority of the
time. At times it would get boring and even sleep worthy but then it would show a scene of a group of
soldiers massacre a peaceful mob of people. Also, I think that the intermission that they added to the
movie was unnecessary. The movie was long enough by itself the intermission only added an
unneeded twenty minutes to the movie. I appreciate the consideration that the creators tried to extent
toward the watchers but I also feel that any methods they could have used to shorten the 1982 movie
Gandhi should have been used. A three plus hour long movie is a lot for any one person to sit through.
Also, I think that the 1982 movie Gandhi had a great story line. If I was just someone who randomly
decided to watch Gandhi I would be caught by the overall amazement of the movie. The 1982 movie
Gandhi was an action movie, a romance movie, and a comedy all rolled

The Influence Of The Roman Catholic Church And Christianity
In the 16th century, Christianity dominated western Europe due to the Roman Empire. The Roman
Catholic Church controlled most of the Christian ideology through the king and especially through the
pope. The power the Roman Catholic Church held was primarily due to the fear that people had at the
time and their belief that everything the Roman Catholic Church was true because they could not read
or apply Christianity to themselves from Scripture. The first great divide with this power, however,
came when Martin Luther wrote the 95 Theses about the selling of indulgences and other issues he
found with the Church. Luther was an educated theologian professor who believed that the average
person should be able to have access to Scripture (all Scripture at the time was in original forms of
Greek, Latin, or Hebrew) in their own languages. Luther fought for this ideal throughout his life as a
monk and professor, sparking an ideological revolution about the place of man in relation to God.
While Roman Catholicism saw the pope as the highest and only true link to God, Luther believed any
man could fulfill their duty to God and speak through their faith alone. This caused a significant
conflict in Christian ideology because Roman Catholics believed the pope s word was final, and the
pope said that Christians could and should buy indulgences and provide material things to the Church
in the name of Christianity to secure their place in Heaven. Luther, on the other hand, countered this in

of the final report.

2.1 Technical Preparation
A good penetration tester must be technically competent and methodical. In many situations, a test
team is more appropriate than an individual tester. 2 Care must be taken in selecting, installing and
configuring the platforms used to perform the testing. Although there are several commercial tools that
can be used to perform penetration tests such as Internet Scanner® from Internet Security Systems3,
free tools will be used throughout this testing. Kurtz and Prosise make an excellent point when they
claim; Running a commercial vulnerability scanner is penetration testing is a myth. 4 There are several
problems with simply running a vulnerability scanner and assuming that a complete penetration test
has been performed. The first is that the vulnerability scanners are only as good as the person running
them. As will be discussed latter in this paper, there is more to performing a penetration test than just

60 Minutes Research Paper
60 Minutes is the longest running and most iconic prime time news program in television history.
Since first airing in 1968, the show has provided viewers with hard hitting, investigative journalism
and stories of national interest on a near regular basis for nearly five decades. Read on to learn more
about 60 Minutes, and keep an eye out for part two of our list, coming soon.
Number Fifteen: The Program Has Been in the Same Time Slot for 40 Years.
After bouncing around time slots for a while, mostly due to FCC programing regulations, CBS
scheduled 60 Minutes for 7 PM on Sunday nights starting in 1975. With the exception of sports
presentations going overtime, it remains in this time slot to this day, making it the longest running
prime time show in history.
Number Fourteen: It Floundered at First, but Now Has the Highest Ratings of Any Prime Time Show
Ever.
News programs were never seen as a big draw during prime time hours when 60 Minutes first began.
For its first three years, CBS wasn t confident that the program could pull in the ratings it needed.
However, after the program s move to Sunday nights and the addition of popular CBS News reporter
Dan Rather, it s ratings steadily improved. In 1976, 60 Minutes was the top watched show on Sunday
nights and in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1996, they decided to update old stories with 60 Minutes More, but the series only lasted one
season. When 60 Minutes II premiered in 1999, it had moderate success, but the station kept changing
its title and time slot, with it eventually going off the air in 2005 (with its original title) due to poor
ratings. There are currently two spin offs still running: 60 Minutes on CNBC, which focuses more on
business stories and never before seen footage, and 60 Minutes Sports, which airs on the premium

Javier Sotomayor
On Tuesday, July 27 1993 in Salamanca Spain, the world of Track and Field was revolutionized in less
than 20 seconds. Not in a 200 meter sprint, but because of a 2.45 meter unassisted vertical jump.
Javier Sotomayor is the only person in the world to have ever cleared 8 feet with a jump of 8 0.5
breaking the 2.44m record he had set the previous year. Javier Sotomayor is iconic in the High Jump
as a result of his record which has not been surpassed in its 22 years and only recently has been
challenged. Javier Sotomayor also known as Rey de las Alturas or king of the heights was born on
October 13 of 1967 in Limonar, Maranzas, Cuba. Son of a day care worker and sugar factory
maintenance man, Javier s desire to become an athlete was evident by the makeshift high jump pit he
had made from dried sugarcane sticks and two rusty barrels. The opportunity to become a great athlete
was not something that happened often in the communist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Analyzing Sotomayor s record breaking jump it can be broken down into four separate sections.
Firstly the initial approach to the breakpoint, breakpoint to the takeoff, take off to the peak and lastly
the peak to the landing. In the initial approach Sotomayor builds speed for his jump, this speed is used
as the initial horizontal velocity and is maintained by his large bounding strides. When he begins to
break for his takeoff, the speed is farther increased in order to generate power for his take off. The
horizontal velocity is then converted to vertical velocity by a quick last step and driving his knee
upward and outward to create a slight rotational motion placing the bar behind him. After he is in the
air, Sotomayor looks back at the mat arching his back moving the center of his mass outside of his
body while at the panicle of his jump. Then drives his shoulders down bringing his legs over quickly
for the record breaking near perfect

  • 2. Walter Mitty Identity Both The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Lamb to the Slaughter analyze human s ways of achieving self acceptance. Walter Mitty s persona is not considered appropriate by people around him, so as a result, he daydreams to accept his true character. On the contrary, Mary Maloney s self love is built upon the presence of her husband, so when he decided to leave, her whole world shattered. In The Secret Life of Walter Mitty , James Thurber explores the topic of self acceptance through the protagonist s daydreams, to demonstrate the strategy of accepting oneself through fantasies when society s values oppose one s behavior. In Lamb to the Slaughter , Mary Maloney s dependence on Patrick for happiness implies that one often relies heavily on others in order to attain self acceptance and adopt a socially fitting identity. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty presents us with a character who finds his escape through fantasies to suggest that when one s unable to stand up against harassers, imagination and dreams will nourish confidence and self image. For instance, at the end of the story, Walter Mitty s use of the words erect and motionless , proud and disdainful , Walter Mitty the Undefeated, inscrutable to the last suggests his ... • 3. Overview of the Fall Prevention Program The Fall Prevention Program Executive Summary The Purpose of the Program According to the Joint Commission Resources JCR (2005), there is no universally accepted definition of a fall. Thus several definitions have been floated over time in an attempt to define the same. One such definition of a fall is an untoward event that results in the patient or resident coming to rest unintentionally on the ground or another lower surface (Joint Commission Resources, 2005). Falls are regarded common causes of injury at every age. However, it is important to note that for seniors, falls can have serious consequences. This is more so the case given that a fall can bring about pain, trauma, or even death. With that in mind, the primary purpose of this program remains the reduction of falls and hence the aversion of related injuries amongst the concerned patients. Of key importance remains the identification of patients who appear to be at high risk of falling. This way, appropriate strategies can be developed to reduce the injuries related to inpatient falls. The Target Population/Audience According to the Joint Commission Resources (2005), falls are the ¦primary etiology of accidental deaths in persons over the age of 65. However, it is important to note that in the opinion of JCR, the injury rate happens to be highest amongst those aged 85 years and above. To highlight the seriousness of the issue, the commission further points out that the number of deaths associated with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Face Of Lennon By John Lennon The Face of Lennon Help! Help! Help! The Beatles faced plenty of highs and plenty of lows throughout their careers, and the transition between each stage was always shaky and lined with turmoil. Perhaps the most evident of these transitions was between the years of 1964 and 1965. In this period, songs from A Hard Day s Night and Help! clearly show that John Lennon, a member of the group since the very beginning, was facing difficult, emotional times. These three songs speak volumes for the trouble that Lennon was going experiencing: You Can t Do That , You ve Got To Hide Your Love Away , and It s Only Love . The first of these songs is the one that helps to set the stage for next two: You Can t Do That . Released as a part of the album A Hard Day s Night in 1964, this song is a product of Lennon s surroundings more than a product from Lennon himself. Having first touched down in the United States on February 7, 1964, John fell in love with it all. Since Rock and Roll was on its last leg in the States, the Beatles were welcomed with excitement and a wave of energy. Despite only having stayed until February 22, Lennon was moved by the momentum the United States gave them. Only three days later, the Beatles went on to record You Can t Do That on February 25. Written by the ever impressionable John, this song clearly reflects the burst of energy brought about from the trip to the States and his love for American Rock. This song uses the most basic and iconic percussive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By bodybuilding, I m referring to the drive which some call it an obsession, for physique perfection including huge amounts of muscle mass and low levels of body fat. Included in this description is also the drive for maximum intensity both in and out of the gym. In bodybuilding there has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream to others as a way to grab people s attention and let them know that you are not normal, that is how you become a member of this subculture. • 14. Not Being Earnest in The Importance of Being Earnest... Not Being Earnest in The Importance of Being Earnest While some critics contend that The Importance of Being Earnest is completely fanciful and has no relation to the real world, others maintain that Oscar Wilde s trivial comedy for serious people does make significant comments about social class and the institution of marriage. These observations include the prevalent utilization of deceit in everyday affairs. Indeed the characters and plot of the play appear to be entirely irreverent, thus lending weight to the comedic, fanciful aspect. However, this same factor also serves to illuminate the major points that Wilde tries to convey about the English society in which he lived. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wilde s conception of deceit as an accepted custom in English aristocracy is also existent in this scene. The practice of Bunburying is established, an act where each man lies to his family about an imaginary invalid friend present somewhere else, in an attempt to pursue leisure activities elsewhere. It is in this discussion that Jack admits to his friend Algernon that he has been lying to his friend in order to maintain the disguise. Thus, it seems as though the very relationship between the two men is founded on deceit. Later in this act, Lady Bracknell and Gwendolyn are introduced. Even though Lady Bracknell is married, it is obvious that the two women are merely female counterparts of Algy and Jack. Both spend the day making visits to others in their social sphere, as Algy and Jack do, holding these visits with utmost importance. It is at this point, also, that the reader is presented with Wilde s views of marriage practices. Earlier in the scene, when Ernest(Jack) announces his intention of proposing to Gwendolyn, Algernon does not congratulate him, rather he denounces the entire institution. At Ernest s announcement of the proposal, Algy exclaims, I thought you had come up for pleasure? I call that business . Later, Algy s comments support the idea of adultery once one is married. • 15. Billy Collins Life as A Day There are no two people who will have the same life; the number of years, experiences, and quality of life are just a few of the things that may change/differ from one person to the next. However, life will always have a beginning and an end; the day(s) in between those two points is what makes up a lifetime. In the poem Days by Billy Collins, the temperance of life is portrayed as a day from start to finish as being synonymous of a lifetime; in other words, life is short and ever changing. Carpe Diem is what might be said by some. The poem Days is how Billy Collins encourages readers to seize the day. Each stanza expresses the importance and value of a single day; becoming increasingly more evident with each line. The transitory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator describes the dawn of a new day as, Today begins cold and bright / the ground heavy with snow (Collins 5 6). The visual imagery of heavy snow tells the reader that each new day is pure and a new beginning. Bright and cold is a reference to birth; this is how each day begins. The changes exhibited through the use of imagery are indicative of the changes that take place throughout a lifetime. It is easy to visualize each day when the narrator says, this day might be resting somehow / on the one before it, / all the days of the past stacked high / like the impossible tower of dishes/entertainers used to build on stage. (Collins 12). The image of each dish placed on top of another dish compels the reader to see how life has become more complicated, impossible to keep forever balanced. The imagery used here is much different than the metaphor of fresh snow. This is how the author expresses time passing, and life is happening. The sense that life is coming to an end is felt when the narrator says, then holding your breath, / place this cup on yesterday s saucer (Collins 22 23). The imagery prompts the reader to feel uncertainty about the likeliness of another day, but at the same time wishing very badly for more time. Collins uses imagery to illustrate the fragility of existence and humanity s quiet desperation to keep going. The poem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In fact, people don t realize that early humans used biotechnology 10,000 years ago. Early humans were producing beer, wine, bread, and yogurt by means of fermentation. Biotechnology is any technique that uses organisms or their products to make a new product, to improve the life of humans or to develop microorganisms for specific scientific uses (Paul Cooley, 2014). As early as 1500 BC humans were storing plants with certain traits such as disease resistance in order to selectively breed certain plants with certain traits to better their lives (Jeffrey Kruck Langland, 1999). A huge breakthrough in biotechnology was the creation of penicillin in 1942 (Paul Cooley 2014). This was a huge breakthrough and it save a lot of lives from disease during World War II. According to Paul Cooley (2014) in 1980 biotechnology was used to rid the world of smallpox. Much disease such as breast cancer has been discovered through biotechnology such as breast cancer and Parkinson s disease (Paul Cooley, 2014). They found these diseases to be gene related. In 1997 a sheep was cloned from a single adult cell through biotechnology (Paul, Cooley, 2014). • 17. Unraveling The Enigma Of Christopher Mccandless Unraveling the Enigma of Christopher McCandless Throughout the novel, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer sincerely disentangles the haunting enigma of Chris McCandless. By tracing the places, people and experiences intertwined in the life of McCandless, Krakauer narrates the life story of a puzzling corpse found in a bus buried in the Alaskan frontier in a truly authentic way of storytelling. Although Krakauer inserts direct quotes from people who McCandless came into direct contact with and experts from primary source journals, Krakauer s own voice in the narration of the dead man s life is trustworthy due to the similarities the protagonist and the author share. Common connections such as similar paternal stress made outstanding impacts in both men s lives, starting at a young age. Furthermore, a sort of agitation with the soul ailed Krakauer and McCandless fueled by a reckless persona confined in the modern world. Lastly, a craving for human contact when in total isolation troubled both the author and subject in their adventures narrowed in the natural world. The mutual bond apparent to the reader between Krakauer and McCandless makes the writing in the novel sincere enabling Krakauer to speak of a dead s man life with profound authority and truth. Taking a Look at Evolutionary Psychology Evolutionary Psychology is a practice of social and natural sciences that studies human characteristics through the lens of modern evolutionary theory. This is exactly what Dunbar and his colleges attempt to do with the family in their book. The discussion of the family has to start with defining what parent involvement actually is. The authors of the book Evolutionary Psychology use Robert Trivers definition from 1972 that states, any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring s chance of surviving at the cost of parent s ability to invest in other offspring . Is involved in a child s life who is going to require more of an investment that an average child, and still highly unlikely to reproduce worth it? Twins are a similar circumstance. Parents have the dilemma of possibly of not having adequate resources for both children at the same time. So infanticide could be logical in this situation so the parents could invest heavily into one of the twins to help ensure the best opportunity for the child throughout life as opposed to dividing the resources in half. This leads into the last circumstance, which is just not having the adequate amount of resources to raise even a single child. This practice is exemplified to the rate of aborted children or children sent to orphanages in young single women, or old married women who have had several children prior. Also discussed is how unique the human family is. Human fathers are involved in their children s lives more than any other species and humans are the only species where grandparents exist. The explanation for these occurrences are that the human infant is so dependant that it needs the support of more than just a mother, and even just the mother and father in some cases. The occurrence of grandparents can also be explained by the phenomenon of menopause. The human ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first question I get asked when I meet people is always about being a twin. Oh you are a twin? Have you ever switched classes with one another? How is it like being a twin? are just some of the questions I am barraged with. While the questions may not seem harmful, to me they are extremely annoying and almost insulting. It shows that they do not care about who I am, but rather who we are. It is a painful realisation to know that some of the people who I know are only my friend because I am a twin. On Wednesday, August 28th in the year 1963, a historical first step was taken at the Washington Monument in our nation s capital. This first step, taken by one nameless American, signaled the beginning of an event that shaped the nation, perhaps even the world; The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. This march was organized by civil rights activists who shared a common objective: the social and economic equality of Americans. Although this protest was not an official effort by the United State s government itself, I believe events like this are what make the foundation of our government. Our government should stay true to a reflection of the people s values and beliefs, and this march forced the government to stay true to it s people in the best way possible. The leaders of this march were people who shaped political history as well, and continue to do so. For example, John Lewis was, at the time of the March on Washington, a chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. Today, half a century later, he is an active member of the House of Representatives. Did John Lewis know that this march would cement his place in the halls of history for centuries to come? Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate Essay Recycling of Polyethylene Terephthalate In the United States, over 245 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) was produced by consumers in 2005. This ensures a quality product. Mechanical recycling of PET consists of contamination removal and extrusion into the appropriate shape for the desired use after recycling. In contamination removal, the PET bottles are sorted, ground into flakes, and washed. The questions that they seek to answer involve the fact that why are the males fighting during mating season, and the ones with the colorful ornaments. In both human and animal relationship, there are many similarities, such as the fact that the male fights for the female such as their masculinity or traits that females look for whether an animal or a human. Darwin in The Origin explained that sexual selection involves competition, but for mating instead of fighting for survival, in The Descent went on to explain the relevance of the traits like the peacock tails. • 32. Internal Conflicts In Alice Walker s The Color Purple As individuals, we must understand ourselves and our personal struggles. As part of a society, we must understand how we fit into the world around us. Consequently, we must then bridge the gap between these two ideas. In the film adaptation of Alice Walker s The Color Purple, the main character, Celie, discovers her individuality overtime, as she eventually finds her niche among others (Spielberg, 1985). Through incorporating both internal conflicts and how a person relates with the external society, The Color Purple acts as a transitional piece, linking the unit of conflicts of self to the unit of conflicts involving groups. The Color Purple examines several aspects of unit one, including the difference between singular or multiple perspectives and the subsequent impact of adding more perspectives to an issue. As discovered in unit one, the principle of Occam s Razor, which usually favors a singular perspective, holds that entities are not to be multiplied beyond necessity, but this thought process often oversimplifies the issue by disregarding certain aspects or details of a situation (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2015). As if adhering to Occam s Razor, Celie in the film, rather than further complicate her situation, chooses the path of least resistance by living the majority of her early to mid life viewing her circumstance with a singular perspective in which the society holds that she has no choice, but to conform to its sexist expectations (Spielberg, 1985). However, Sofia and Shug provide new, additional perspectives that fuse together in the formation of a cyclopean image, which gives Celie greater awareness of her situation (The Cyclopean View, n.d.; Spielberg, 1985). Through gaining these multiple perspectives, Celie realizes the abuse she suffers and decides to take initiative against them, eventually embracing her inner individuality and no longer submitting to the whims of every man she encounters, as society would expect a black woman of the time to do (Spielberg, 1985). By unveiling the power of multiple perspectives in comparison to a singular perspective, The Color Purple coincides with a predominant topic of unit one. This issue is employed skilfully in both Fight Club and Memento, which makes them interesting to watch and analyse. The Usual Suspects, another neo noir film, also employs the issue reality in the narrative but, it differs from Fight Club and Memento, as reality is twisted by intention. Once finding out the truth, one needs to rethink the entire film. Every scene has a different meaning once finding out that Tyler and the narrator are one. In Memento Leonard is confronted by Teddy a cop and his friend that Sammy Jankis the men Leonard often talks about is actually him. Rhetorical Analysis Of Politics In The English Language In George Orwell s Politics in the English Language, the author makes the point that politics are distorted as a result of improper use of the English language. He breaks the issue down into four main sources: dying metaphors, verbal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. He uses these points to prove specifically what must be done in order to fix modern English. Orwell does this through his use of rhetorical devices such as asyndeton and metaphor, which both demonstrate the idea that he aims to convey. George Orwell uses asyndeton to prove how unnecessary the employment of specific writing techniques is when one is trying to get a point across to an audience. Instances of this can be found in the portion of the essay in which Orwell takes apart the idea of pretentious diction. He uses asyndeton to list a vast multitude of words phenomenon, element, individual (as noun), objective, categorical, effective, virtual, basic, primary, promote, constitute, exhibit, exploit, utilize, eliminate, liquidate which fall under the category of pretentious. Summary Of The Poem We Real Cool First Response Journal # 2 The poem We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, to summarize is about how the pool players (line 1) do not entirely care about school, and really anything that is remotely good leaving them all to relish in the uncertainty of their demise. In the first stanza is where there is more substance, with we real cool. We / Left school. (lines 3 4), creating the image of the pool players leaving school, possibly having dropped out. The second stanza lets the reader know that the players are spending their time out late, with the lines Lurk late. We / Strike straight. (lines 5 6) and not up to anything good. The third stanza is where the players start to celebrate all the mischief they have caused by drinking the sorrows away, in the lines Sing sin. We / Thin gin. (lines 7 8). The last stanza Jazz June. We / Die soon. (lines 9 10) is focused on the realization on how it might be Summer, but are not aware, since other individuals do not believe that they should be alive much longer, from their bad habits and everything in between. My analysis on the poem, We Real Cool on the first read through was how real it became. Even though this poem was quite short, it packed a ton of meaning into a small amount of space. The main purpose I conclude of this poem was how those that go out and party, caring more about what their friends are doing then their school work. These types of people with this mindset is not going to fundamentally help in the long run. So being cool is not all it is cracked up to be and those that want to be cool need to realize all the good and bad that come along with it. Not going to class because of deciding not to go is a critical piece of the puzzle to the path of wanting to succeed versus choosing to not succeed. We are all in control of our life to an extent and can make our own choices to create change, it s what we decide to do with it, that matters. • 37. Evidence Based Outcomes And Utilizing Findings Evidence Based Outcomes and Utilizing Findings Evidenced based practice (EBP) is now considered to be best practice but, although great strides have been made in applying the research in practice, there is still progress to be made. EBP is central to delivering the highest quality healthcare and ensuring the best outcomes for patients. However, EBP guiding the practice in healthcare systems is not the norm in many healthcare systems across the United States (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). The most overwhelming evidence for using EBP in practice is that is provides better outcomes in patients and provides a higher quality of care. Therefore, patients are more satisfied, healthcare costs are reduced and there is a reduction in differences in delivery of care according to geographic area (Melnyk Fineout Overholt, 2011). Evidence based practice is defined by Polit and Beck (2012) as a practice that involves making clinical decisions on the best available evidence which is usually from disciplined research, while research utilization is using an aspect of a study for something else unrelated to the original research. The two terms are sometimes used synonymously but there is a distinct difference. In research utilization the emphasis is on translating the information into real word applications. • 49. Javier Sotomayor On Tuesday, July 27 1993 in Salamanca Spain, the world of Track and Field was revolutionized in less than 20 seconds. Not in a 200 meter sprint, but because of a 2.45 meter unassisted vertical jump. When he begins to break for his takeoff, the speed is farther increased in order to generate power for his take off. The horizontal velocity is then converted to vertical velocity by a quick last step and driving his knee upward and outward to create a slight rotational motion placing the bar behind him. After he is in the air, Sotomayor looks back at the mat arching his back moving the center of his mass outside of his body while at the panicle of his jump. Then drives his shoulders down bringing his legs over quickly for the record breaking near perfect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
