Mesopotamia Changes
Mesopotamia is one of the oldest places where civilizations blossomed. In Greek, the word
mesopotamia means the land between the rivers (Leick, 2003, p. xii) . Mesopotamia was located
between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is now known as modern day Iraq. This land was
home to many civilizations dating as far back as 10,000 B.C. (Leick, 2003). Each civilization used the
different type of resources available to them between the two rivers. In the beginning, civilizations
relied mostly on hunting and gathering near the Levantine Coast (Leick, 2003). However, there was a
change from hunting and gathering to cultivating and domesticating animals. According to Van De
Mieroop, the transition was not sudden but rather a slow process

Tech Prep Essay
Tech Prep
Although the development and implementation of tech prep education programs have been in process
since the initiation of the Carl D. Perkins Act Amendments of 1990, misconceptions about tech prep
education still exist. As defined in provisions authorizing Perkins funds for tech prep, a tech prep
education program is a combined secondary and postsecondary program that
leads to an associate degree or two year certificate; provides technical preparation in at least one field
of engineering technology; applied science, mechanical, industrial, or practical art or trade; or
agriculture, health or business; builds student competence in mathematics, science, and
communications (including applied academics) through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the integration of academic and vocational education offers one strategy for developing the
academic and technical competence of students, it does not constitute tech prep. Tech prep requires
not only new courses and a sequenced core curriculum, but courses that take into account the learning
styles of the majority of students, incorporating concepts like that of contextual learning. According to
Hull (1993), contextual learning occurs only when students process new information or knowledge in
such a way that it makes sense to them in their frame of reference (their own inner world of memory,
experience, and response) (p. 41). Thus, the applied academics approach to learning, which involves
the teaching of solid academic content by means of hands on and vocational applications, follows the
contextual learning concept in that it provides for learning in the context of life experiences building
on what the students already know and applying learning in the context of how the
knowledge/information can be used in the context of exploration, discovery, and invention (ibid.). One
of the goals of applied academic curriculum is that it should enable students to transfer knowledge
from academic content to vocational applications and from school to the workplace.
To ensure a curriculum that will prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies
necessary for work in a technologically

Manic Depression And The Gemini Disorder
Jessica Gulino Professor Boms BIO 1 November, 2016 Manic depression, or The Gemini disorder is
most commonly known as Bipolar Disorder. This illness is a brain disorder, which causes abrupt and
unusual mood shifts. These irritable mood shifts can be related to the individual s energy, activity
levels, or their ability to carry out daily tasks. This disorder goes beyond the ordinary mood swings we
all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are characterized as periods of acute elevation
of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they
can also occur as a young child or even middle age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in
more than three million people a year, and are linked to their genetic material. People who have
Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or
excitation, whereas depression is associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis
can occur with either state and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit
suicide in their lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia.
Bipolar I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. Typically a person who
has this type will experience periods of depression and is marked by extreme manic episodes. Bipolar
II disorder is diagnosed after more than one major depressive episode and a minimum of

Arrogance In Rihanna And Drake s The Little Prince
When we can t control our confidence, our arrogance takes over, and we assume we are perfect. Zack
walked back and forth in his room trying to sing, Work by Rihanna and Drake. Sweat dripping from
his face to his hands to the floor, making sounds like a leaky pipe. Everyone will be there, he thought.
Fear kept taking control of his brain, when it was supposed to be Joy, but he guessed she was
vacuumed out of Headquarters and into his long term memory. Well anyways, Matt, his competition,
was so overconfident in himself winning the singing battle, that he never even practiced. Matt always
annoyed everyone with his arrogance, so Zack decided that it was time to defeat this supercilious man.

women can t handle the things they can. Let me tell you two word, they wish! Women are just as

Disadvantages Of Scientific Management
Frederic Winslow Taylor (1865 1915) was an engineer and most importantly an innovator who affects
the way many organizations function even today. In his time he introduced the term of scientific
management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to
execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production
environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). According to Taylor,
scientific management should include the selection of the best qualified people to work in a company,
the incentives to work harder and as a result more efficient by awarding them with higher salaries as
well as the authority given to the managers to control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One drawback is that distinction of planning and doing has a negative impact especially on companies
with numerous and specialized human resources. In this case, neither people have the ability to be
creative and constructive nor have the opportunity to take an initiative (Ghuman and Aswathappa,
2010, p.135). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an environment in which
workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence the production of the firm
(Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized by the workers themselves due
to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company s productivity lead to a decrease in
demand for employees and made them insecure because there was a strong possibility to lose their
jobs (Singla, 2009 2010,

Motivation In Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar
The character motivation of
Julius Caesar
A coward dies many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste death but once. Julius Caesar
was a brave man. He never lost a war. He defeated the forces of Pompey after a long civil war. They
return home to take control the Rome. The character motivation of Julius Caesar was his ego, advice,
ambition, and kingship
Caesars first character motivation was his ego. I do not know the man I should fear. See the weather
well conceited man. He had a high self esteem that made him become leader. It made people think he
was too full of himself and he would change. The second character motivation for Caesar was the
advice he got from his wife. In Caesar s life he took little advice. He took advice from his wife about

The third motivation was his ambition. Caesar s ambition was one of his greatest downfalls. It caused
his best friends who want to kill him. I don t know I don t know personal cause to the general. He
would be crowned. How might this change his nature there s the question. This was said by one of his
best friends Brutus.
The final part of Caesar s wife is where he reverted back to his old self. It was when they told him
about him getting the crown. After that he told his wife how foolish do

Mass Density Of An Unknown Metal Essay
The goal of this experiment was to determine the mass density of an unknown metal. Five different
vernier capillaries and double pan balances were used to measure the metal. The plan of action was to
find the average density to reduce random error, in addition to, calculating the standard error to
observe the reliability of proposed average. Ideally, the metal would identify more comparably with
gold or aluminum. The concepts of mass density, standard error, average, one dimensional statistics,
precision / accuracy, and test of accuracy were explored. A hollow cylinder of metal was given to each
lab group. Initially, the mass of the metal was determined with a double pan balance. The metal was
placed on the balance and the instrument s notch and slider was used to interpret the mass. The next
step was determining the inner radius, outer radius and height of the cylinder to find the volume. A
vernier caliper was used to measure those components. The vernier caliper included an inner and outer
jaw that measures length. The results of the double pan balance and vernier caliper was recorded in a
data sheet, and the procedure was repeated five times with different instruments. The data was placed
in an excel file where the mass density, average, standard error, test of accuracy, and general
comparison with the two proposed metals (gold and aluminum) could be analyzed. Table 1 Five

Christine De Pizan And The Renaissance Period
From 1330 1550, the Renaissance was a period emphasising a revival in the interest of art, music, and
literature. As a result, being culturally advanced was the goal for many individuals. Machiavelli,
Dante, and Chaucer are a few of the men who exhibited these values and defined literature of the time.
Although advancement was a goal of the era, women were seen as subservient to men, excluding them
from education and politics. Christine de Pizan; however, brought awareness to these issues through
her writing. As a result, she exemplifies the Renaissance era, for she was cultured, self reliant, and
aware of the need for change. In 1386, Christine de Pizan was born in Venice, Italy. She is well known

In order to gain income for herself and her three children, she wrote to support her family. According
to the article Christine de Pizan published by Professor Pavlac s Women s History, she became the
first woman in Europe to successfully make a living through writing (Lloyd). This is significant
considering that women during this time were overshadowed by men. Even without a husband, Pizan
sustained life for her family and was independent. Men of the Renaissance strived towards the
advancement of themselves and though she had to unpredictably, Christine de Pizan did such on her
own, resulting in her success. During the Renaissance, literature contained messages that were
prevalent during the time. The section Capturing Reality in Writing in Western Civilizations states,
Now they were being used to critique changing social mores and regimes (Cole and Symes 289). Well
known for her writing The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine de Pizan fights the common
assumptions of the characteristics of women within this book. Pizan addresses that women are more
than their bodies, and wants to gather all women in order to protect them from the suppression of men.
In Christine de Pizan s City of Ladies: A Monumental (Re)Construction of, By, and For Women of All

Heroic Ignorance And Gothic Novels By Jane Austen
Heroic Ignorance and Gothic Novels
Jane Austen s novel, Northanger Abbey, seeks to explore the effect of wealth on society. Throughout
the novel, this portrayal of wealth assumes an increasingly critical tone, and is thus used to suggest the
negative impact of financial goals in a relationship. This is shown in the contrast between Catherine s
relationship with Mr. Tilney, and Isabella s promiscuous ways. In this dynamic, Catherine remains
pure, engaged to a poor clergyman, whereas her friend Isabella ensnares men in the hopes of gaining
wealth and societal status. Through this dynamic, Austen provides an example of the British Romantic
ideal that both love and the individual are only pure and righteous when freed from the constraints of
society and affluence. Ironically, the Gothic novels that were prevalent in the later part of the British
Romantic Period are frequently cited as a source of misfortune throughout the novel. Catherine, who
is portrayed as good and pure, is misled into believing that the stories spun in Gothic novels are
applicable to her own life. Her friend, Isabella, is also portrayed as a lover of the genre, which is
Austen s way of hinting at Isabella s future sins. Although the Gothics influence both Catherine and
Isabella, Austen portrays the characters as opposites one the promiscuous villain and one the victim of
the heroic tale. Austen continuously comments on the nature of heroism, and thus mocks the timid
Catherine while ironically branding her a

Dog s Death Analysis
Dog s Death Analysis
Gail Kidder
ENG125 English Literature
Prof Kristen McClure
December 10, 2012
Dog s Death by John Updike really touched me when I read it for the first time. His use of imagery in
this poem is very touching. He makes the reader relate to the death of the dog by showing through his
words the emotions of what the dog is going through as well as what his owners are feeling. This
paper will show how I think the author was trying to use imagery to show the love between the dog
and his owners. The reader response approach in literary criticism is where the author finds a personal
link or imaginative entry into a story, poem, or play (Clugston, 2010). I believe that this approach
would be the best type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The helplessness of not knowing that there is something wrong. The feeling of guilt because you didn
t realize any change in behavior to represent that something was wrong. In fact, in order to prove itself
as good dog as defined by its human caretakers, the dog must do no less than conclusively
demonstrate its loyalty (Karla Armbuster, 2002). This is displayed by how even though she is dying;
she still drags herself to the newspaper so she won t get in trouble by her owner by going to the
bathroom on the floor. Though surrounded by love that would have upheld her, nevertheless she sank
and, stiffening, disappeared (John Updike, 1958). This is one part of the poem that really portrays the
reader response approach to me because I have been in this position. I was holding my dog in my arms
while my husband is driving. Knowing that he is dying and there is nothing in the world that you can
do. You just have to hold them close and they can feel the love in your heart.
Everyone at one point in their life experiences some sort of loss. Once you bring a pet into your home,
they become part of the family. The unconditional love that you receive from them is the best thing
ever. Like a child, you raise them, train them, and no matter what, they will always be a loyal, loving
part of your family. So, the death of a pet, for some, can be a traumatic experience. You have so many
feelings of loss and emptiness that is unexplainable unless you have gone through it

This was very important because he was able to do the impossible, China was separated into seven

fact that he built six feet tall terracotta warriors. He built hundreds of thousands of them because he

Analysis Of The Book Jim Crow On Trial
The book Jim Crow on Trial is very much centered around subjects of justice and fairness. As it
follows a real court case, if must do so. The boys suffer through a time of unfair and often cruel
treatment. They are accused by 2 white girls, tried by bias and racist juries, and finally, thrice
convicted of rape and sentenced to death. In their last trial, some had their charges dropped, and others
received only life in prison. Those in prison eventually left on parole. Only one of the boys was
pardoned pre mortem, the rest pardoned 80 years after being accused. So could one honestly say they
received justice? Or is there a time limit on this? I believe so, and I don t think they got the justice due
to them.

These two facts allow one to state with confidence that at the beginning of the book, the boys were
treated unfairly. Towards middle of the book is when justice becomes an important aspect. As we
move into the court, we truly get to see all of the unfair moments and unjust components of both the
trial and the case. Directly following their trial, their given sentence (death at the electric chair for all
but one, who was sentenced to life in prison) was overturned. This coming after the Communist Party
of America talked about this case, calling it, American injustice , and asserting that, the Negroes are
wholly innocent of the crimes for which they were sentenced. . This shows that there was injustice in
their trial, as the CPA chose to say. As the story goes on, they go through multiple other trials, each
resulting in a sentence of either death or life in prison. In the end, they are given their final sentence. A
compromise lead to 2 of the boys (the youngest) being set free, though not pardoned. They went to
New York. As for the rest of the boys? They were locked away, and each eventually released on
parole. This is excluding Patterson, who was given life in prison, which he eventually escaped. One of
the boys, Norris eventually formally requested a pardon. It was accepted by George Wallace, who was
as the book said, best known for being an ardent

The Deception of Predestination
Fate, being always truly unknown and seemingly static, is not something that one should tamper with.
It leads all decisions and outcomes, if one so chooses to believe in the concept of predestination. In
Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, three witches decisively go against their orders and toy with the
lives of thousands of people by telling riddles of the future and it s biddings. Evidently, all those who
were given a glance into their future by the meddling trio soon let sanity slip through their fingers and

The Water Systems At Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, And Mckinney...
Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the water
systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is human
and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a
concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our
results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at
McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets
were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples with
an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek. Other
factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality.
I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same
amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand, Wild
Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least amount of
nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild Basin at the
lowest. Hence, because Bulls Creek was had the high amounts of human activity and nitrate and
phosphorous levels, this relates

Ancient heroes are important to our understanding of modern heroes because they helped shape our

for a example. The ancient heroes help show what modern days hero would be like. If our ancient

accepted the truth in the theory of Galilei s heliocentrism theory. The Timeline further explains that in,
1939: Pope Pius XII called Galileo a hero of research (Doc A: Line 14). Galileo was no longer known
as heresy of the Catholic religion but rather a hero that drew the line between reality and belief.
Galileo was seen as a heretic at first, causing the church to ban the spreading of his theory, but after
several investigation they recognized that the Italian was truly correct. Galileo Galilei was once
considered as a heretic, however, centuries proved that he was not a heretic, just a user of the mind s

Relational Power Effect
Suppose you plan to customize a chocolate box for your significant other as a birthday gift, perhaps
with some rough ideas about the types of chocolate he/she likes. How much variety will you choose
for this assortment? If you happen to feel powerful or powerless when you make the choice, will your
desire for variety be affected by the incidental power feelings? By contrast, if you need to customize
the chocolate box for your family and friends instead of romantic partners, will your preference for
variety be also influenced by the power feelings?
Power defined as having control over resources and people has been found to influence consumer
choices made for self to a large extent (Fiske, 1993; Keltner, Gruenfeld, Anderson, 2003; Rucker
Galinsky, 2008; Torelli Shavitt, 2010; for a review, sees Rucker, Galinsky, Dubois, 2012). Yet, despite
power is relational in nature, considerably less is known about how power influences decisions made
for others: Will power feeling affect consumer choices made for others? Will it depend upon the type
of relationship? What psychological processes may drive the effect? The current paper situates power
in relational contexts to examine one possibility through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Results of Study 3 4 also confirmed our hypothesis that lack of confidence in managing romantic
relationship mediated this effect. Although the psychological mechanism that hinges the power and
mating together is the deepest of the kind in social psychology (Foucault, 1978; Freud, 1905;
Marcuse, 1974), its implications in consumer decision making have rarely been explored. To the best
of our knowledge, this research is the first one examining the effect of power and mating on variety
seeking in consumer

The Problem Of Chewing Tobacco
Chewing tobacco isn t as big of a problem as people think it is. As a teenager with knowing people,
loved ones that are addicted to it. It s a lot of pressure to be like dad but when dad is addicted to
something bad, it is not fun to try and be like dad. As far back as I can remember, my dad has been a
hero. He has been a super hero to not only me, but my friends, and everyone in the Pillager area, since
he is a first responder on the fire department. My father is addicted to chewing tobacco. Everyone has
an addiction, and some are worse than others.
Not everyone knows what it s like to be addicted to chewing tobacco, or knows why people chew, or
have experienced the effects of it. Every person has a different reason for doing it. For ... Show more

Maybe, you just like that feeling of the tin in your back pocket. You could even like the feeling on
your gums when it s in your mouth. It might even be that feeling of knowing that you chew, and that
you are of age to buy, and use it.
The effects of this decision not only have an impact on your family and friends, but yourself. Yes, it is
expensive to buy, it hurts the wallet, and you don t have the money to do fun things, because you are
spending money on an addiction, that you just can t control at times of stress.
Your family will constantly tell you to stop. It will never end. My mom tells my dad, that she does not
want his face near hers when she can smell the wintergreen, or see the dip in his mouth. No one likes
to see their parents crabby. There are reasons that parents can get stressed, like children not listening
can stress parents out. Even co workers can stress the individuals out, so they chew to reduce the
stress.
Like any addiction, there are health effects that people know about, but don t think of. Oral cancer is a
big risk. My mother knows someone that had lost part of their jaw and had to drink from a straw the
rest of their lives. Oral cancer is just one health precaution. Gums disease is a problem as well. That
will cost some money at the dentist, more money out of your wallet spent. Should I mention tooth
decay? More money at the dentist because of this addiction you can t seem to get over. With the gums
disease and tooth decay,

Year 11 Shakespeare Analysis
Shakespeare, in having Julia assumes a male disguise in Two Gentlemen of Verona, plays on hose,
codpiece, and pins to emphasize cross dressing in Renaissance England. Hose, in the Oxford English
Dictionary, comes from the Old English hosa and has the meaning of an article of clothing for the leg
(OED). Similarly, codpiece refers to a close fitting hose or breeches worn by men from the 15th to the
17th century (OED). Together, both hose and codpiece serve to remind the audience of Julia s
character transformation, undergoing from a female mistress to a male page. What significant about
the word codpiece, however, is that it is a compounded word of piece, which derives from French
peece and carries a meaning of a portion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare s mention of infamy and scandalized may serve to depict the cultural attitude towards
women s travelling, for Julia, as seen in her dialogues, may be subjected to being scandalized and an
infamy for undertaking a journey, showing that women did have as much freedom as men do at the
time. According to Lucetta, it is only through cross dressing as a male page that Julia is able to travel
from Verona to Milan, without being scandalized and a public infamy, implying that a male attire
offers more freedom of action and movement than female attire does. In it will make me scandalized,
however, it is ambiguous, for it can refer to both Julia s travelling and her cross dressing. Similarly,
Journey also has figurative meaning of passage through life, implying character development (OED);
this particular meaning may point to Julia s change of attire, such as from being a female character to
a male character. In other words, Shakespeare s mention of it and journey (as in character
development) may point to Julia s cross dressing, and such action could result in her being scandalized
and a public infamy, for cross dressing disrupts the concept of gender in Renaissance England. By
allowing Julia cross dresses and travels, however, Shakespeare challenges the Renaissance customs by
allowing female

Brand Strategy and Imc
Brand strategy and integrated marketing communication (IMC): a case study of player s cigarette...
Integrated marketing communication (IMC) is defined as a cross functional process for creating and
nourishing profitable relationships with customers and other stakeholders by strategically controlling
or influencing all messages sent to these groups and encouraging data driven, purposeful dialogue
with them (Duncan 2002, p. 8). To better understand the real world application of IMC, a call has been
made for case histories that focus on IMC best practices (see Duncan and Mulhern 2004, p. 19). In this
paper, we provide a case study that demonstrates how one company Imperial Tobacco Limited (ITL),
which is Canada s largest tobacco ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising,
which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and
Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and
companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to
seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly
interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its
move toward an IMC mind set and structure.
Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of
particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies
attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of
promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign,
and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually
referred to as one voice, one look. Organizations can achieve an execution that is consistent and
appears to have integrated marketing communications, but the essence of the IMC movement is a call
to make marketing communication more effective through greater tactical coordination anda strong
brand strategy that

Leon (2007) stated that investment in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems can be classified
into tangible and intangible benefits. The tangible ones include costs reduction of inventory and
inventory carrying, manpower and material, improved sales and customer service, and efficient
financial management. The intangible ones include several perspectives on reducing duplicated data
entry in accounting related systems, greater control over product and process design based on product
structure database, establishment of realistic schedules accessible to and commonly shared by
everyone to improve production and materials management, generating accurate manufacturing and
delivery report to provide a strong cornerstone to customer service, and complementary and enhanced
advantages on management information system function.

Dichotomy In The Outsiders
Have your feelings ever lead you to believe that you did not belong? Feeling such as those are
elegantly portrayed in S.E. Hinton s fictional novel The Outsiders by multiple characters in groups in
the book. These include the social classes, Ponyboy Curtis, and lastly Johnny Cade. When a person s
mind tells them they are different, than they can be classified as an outsider, which means that feeling
of being original is all in the mind. To begin, an outsider is someone who seems left out, whether it is
an opinion of themselves or that of others. In The Outsiders, two social classes; greasers and Socs
show that outsiders can be both inside and outside groups. They also show the role of dichotomy in
discrimination. A character named Cherry Valance is an outsider among the Socs yet she is a part of
that group. We aren t the same class. she had said to Ponyboy ... Show more content on

Socs in the book are explained as cool to the point of not feeling anything (38). Conclusively, Cherry
may be a part of the Socs but is an outsider from them. Her relationship with Ponyboy shows that Socs
and greasers dichotomy only seems to be. Secondly, the main character in the novel, Ponyboy Curtis
displays the role of an outsider by differentiating it from the term individual. Ponyboy is only a part of
the gang because of his brothers. I was a tagalong and a kid he had said Soda always took me when
they went places (9). Even though his siblings had brought Ponyboy to the gang, they still accepted
him, even though he was younger, and felt differently about certain things. His differences is classified
him as an individual as well as an outsider. In summary, it is important to realize the difference
between the concept of individuality from being outsider. Lastly, a small, fragile boy from The
Outsiders named Johnny Cade shows the role of a person s past, and comparison in

Essay about The Ethical Issues Of Family Medical Leave Act
The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) was eight long years in the making. After many bitter debates
between the Republicans and Democrats, Congress passed the Act on February 4, 1993. President
Clinton signed the measure into law the following day. The Act became effective on August 5, 1993.
The Act required employers with fifty or more employees within a seventy five mile radius to offer
eligible employees up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave during a twelve month period for a variety of
medical reasons. Some of the general medical reasons are, for the birth or adoption, to care for a
seriously ill parent, spouse or child or to undergo medical treatment for their own illness. The Act
spelled out provisions on employer coverage; employee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To reduce problems, employers should give injured workers notice of their rights under the FMLA if
the injury appears to qualify under both statutes. The protected leave provided by the FMLA may run
concurrently while an injured worker receives worker s compensation benefits, but only if the
employer gives proper notification to an employee before the individual returns to work. Otherwise,
the employee retains all FMLA rights for any future problems or a recurrence of the original injury.
This can be a problem when the employee takes FMLA leave intermittently, to receive rehabilitative
services or other treatments. It is essential that front line supervisors be made aware of the basic
provisions of these laws to head off misunderstandings. Supervisor training is especially important
since and employee is not required to make a specific request for FMLA leave in order to be protected.
A uniform policy and supervisory training should help prepare an employer to handle these complex
issues. The employer s ethical responsibility is to post notices of employee rights and responsibilities
under the FMLA. Also include an FMLA policy in existing employee handbooks or otherwise
distribute such a policy, and must notify employees of their rights and responsibilities under the Act
when a request for FMLA leave has been made. Those in favor of a national standard for family leave
have argued

Rhetorical Analysis Of Food Inc
Have you ever been in a rush, low on cash, and looking for something to eat so you didn t really have
a choice but to grab a burger with fries at your local fast food place? Have you ever paused or stopped
to think about where the burger really came from, or the process that went in to be made? The Food
Inc documentary investigates and exposes the American industrial production of meat, grains, and
vegetables. Robert Kenner the producer of the film makes allegations in this film and he explores how
food industries are deliberately hiding how and where it is our food is coming from. He emphasizes
that we should find out where our food comes from and why is it that the food industry does not want
us to know. Food Inc. does not only uses compelling images, such as hundreds of baby chickens being
raised in spaces where they do not see an inch of sunlight, it also includes the speeches and stories of
farmers, families, government officials, and victims of the food industry. The four current problems
facing today s food industry are the reformed usage of the false advertisement within the labeling of
products , mistreatment of farmed animals, and the harmful chemical in our meats. The documentary
Food Inc uses very persuasive tactics that demonstrates strong elements of pathos, ethos, and logos
make an effective appeal, while uncovering the dark side of the food industry.
Many consumers are often not aware that a large number of companies do not label everything they

  • 2. Mesopotamia Changes Mesopotamia is one of the oldest places where civilizations blossomed. In Greek, the word mesopotamia means the land between the rivers (Leick, 2003, p. xii) . Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is now known as modern day Iraq. This land was home to many civilizations dating as far back as 10,000 B.C. (Leick, 2003). Each civilization used the different type of resources available to them between the two rivers. In the beginning, civilizations relied mostly on hunting and gathering near the Levantine Coast (Leick, 2003). However, there was a change from hunting and gathering to cultivating and domesticating animals. According to Van De Mieroop, the transition was not sudden but rather a slow process ... Perkins Act Amendments of 1990, misconceptions about tech prep education still exist. As defined in provisions authorizing Perkins funds for tech prep, a tech prep education program is a combined secondary and postsecondary program that leads to an associate degree or two year certificate; provides technical preparation in at least one field of engineering technology; applied science, mechanical, industrial, or practical art or trade; or agriculture, health or business; builds student competence in mathematics, science, and communications (including applied academics) through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the integration of academic and vocational education offers one strategy for developing the academic and technical competence of students, it does not constitute tech prep. Tech prep requires not only new courses and a sequenced core curriculum, but courses that take into account the learning styles of the majority of students, incorporating concepts like that of contextual learning. According to Hull (1993), contextual learning occurs only when students process new information or knowledge in such a way that it makes sense to them in their frame of reference (their own inner world of memory, experience, and response) (p. 41). Thus, the applied academics approach to learning, which involves the teaching of solid academic content by means of hands on and vocational applications, follows the contextual learning concept in that it provides for learning in the context of life experiences building on what the students already know and applying learning in the context of how the knowledge/information can be used in the context of exploration, discovery, and invention (ibid.). One of the goals of applied academic curriculum is that it should enable students to transfer knowledge from academic content to vocational applications and from school to the workplace. To ensure a curriculum that will prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for work in a technologically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Manic Depression And The Gemini Disorder Jessica Gulino Professor Boms BIO 1 November, 2016 Manic depression, or The Gemini disorder is most commonly known as Bipolar Disorder. This illness is a brain disorder, which causes abrupt and unusual mood shifts. These irritable mood shifts can be related to the individual s energy, activity levels, or their ability to carry out daily tasks. This disorder goes beyond the ordinary mood swings we all are aware of. Manic depression has four forms that are characterized as periods of acute elevation of elatedness, or irritability. More often than not, the symptoms begin as an adolescent, though, they can also occur as a young child or even middle age. These forms of bipolar disorder are diagnosed in more than three million people a year, and are linked to their genetic material. People who have Bipolar Disorder fluctuate between two abnormal mood states. Mania is accompanied by euphoria or excitation, whereas depression is associated with decreased motivation and energy levels. Psychosis can occur with either state and leads to a seventeen percent chance of the person attempting to commit suicide in their lifetime. There are three types of bipolar disorders, type 1, type 2, and Cyclothymia. Bipolar I is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes. Typically a person who has this type will experience periods of depression and is marked by extreme manic episodes. Bipolar II disorder is diagnosed after more than one major depressive episode and a minimum of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Arrogance In Rihanna And Drake s The Little Prince When we can t control our confidence, our arrogance takes over, and we assume we are perfect. Zack walked back and forth in his room trying to sing, Work by Rihanna and Drake. Sweat dripping from his face to his hands to the floor, making sounds like a leaky pipe. Everyone will be there, he thought. Fear kept taking control of his brain, when it was supposed to be Joy, but he guessed she was vacuumed out of Headquarters and into his long term memory. Well anyways, Matt, his competition, was so overconfident in himself winning the singing battle, that he never even practiced. Matt always annoyed everyone with his arrogance, so Zack decided that it was time to defeat this supercilious man. Okay, now what does this story teach us? People think ... Okay, let s pretend that phone gets lost, or get stolen. What s left? Embarrassment. Don t be arrogant. Now this is not the case, I m trying to talk about. It s about inequality today. Like when men have such overconfidence, they believe that women can t handle the things they can. Let me tell you two word, they wish! Women are just as powerful as men. Here s a funny story I need to say, even though it makes me furious. One time, my aunt asked me if I could pick up the bottle of the dispenser that was filled with ¼ water and throw it out in the sink. I was about to pick it up until my cousin, who s 15, came in and told me, No, I ll pick it up, you can t. It ll be hard for you. In his time he introduced the term of scientific management which refers to a system where leaders are capable of managing and workers are able to execute the tasks given by the managers in the most efficient and productive way in a mass production environment with the basic element of job specialization (McKenna, 2012, p.7). Another drawback is that Taylor system can be described as an environment in which workforce is treated as a machine and not as individuals who can influence the production of the firm (Dutt, 2008, p.21).Finally, scientific management was largely criticized by the workers themselves due to the fact that the efficiency which has a central role in company s productivity lead to a decrease in demand for employees and made them insecure because there was a strong possibility to lose their jobs (Singla, 2009 2010, ... • 9. Mass Density Of An Unknown Metal Essay The goal of this experiment was to determine the mass density of an unknown metal. Five different vernier capillaries and double pan balances were used to measure the metal. The plan of action was to find the average density to reduce random error, in addition to, calculating the standard error to observe the reliability of proposed average. Ideally, the metal would identify more comparably with gold or aluminum. The concepts of mass density, standard error, average, one dimensional statistics, precision / accuracy, and test of accuracy were explored. A hollow cylinder of metal was given to each lab group. Initially, the mass of the metal was determined with a double pan balance. The metal was placed on the balance and the instrument s notch and slider was used to interpret the mass. The next step was determining the inner radius, outer radius and height of the cylinder to find the volume. A vernier caliper was used to measure those components. The vernier caliper included an inner and outer jaw that measures length. The results of the double pan balance and vernier caliper was recorded in a data sheet, and the procedure was repeated five times with different instruments. The data was placed in an excel file where the mass density, average, standard error, test of accuracy, and general comparison with the two proposed metals (gold and aluminum) could be analyzed. • 10. Christine De Pizan And The Renaissance Period From 1330 1550, the Renaissance was a period emphasising a revival in the interest of art, music, and literature. As a result, being culturally advanced was the goal for many individuals. Machiavelli, Dante, and Chaucer are a few of the men who exhibited these values and defined literature of the time. Although advancement was a goal of the era, women were seen as subservient to men, excluding them from education and politics. Christine de Pizan; however, brought awareness to these issues through her writing. As a result, she exemplifies the Renaissance era, for she was cultured, self reliant, and aware of the need for change. In 1386, Christine de Pizan was born in Venice, Italy. According to the article Christine de Pizan published by Professor Pavlac s Women s History, she became the first woman in Europe to successfully make a living through writing (Lloyd). This is significant considering that women during this time were overshadowed by men. Even without a husband, Pizan sustained life for her family and was independent. Men of the Renaissance strived towards the advancement of themselves and though she had to unpredictably, Christine de Pizan did such on her own, resulting in her success. During the Renaissance, literature contained messages that were prevalent during the time. The section Capturing Reality in Writing in Western Civilizations states, Now they were being used to critique changing social mores and regimes (Cole and Symes 289). Well known for her writing The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine de Pizan fights the common assumptions of the characteristics of women within this book. Pizan addresses that women are more than their bodies, and wants to gather all women in order to protect them from the suppression of men. In Christine de Pizan s City of Ladies: A Monumental (Re)Construction of, By, and For Women of All Time, it states, With these texts, Christine is proving that women can build, are powerful and creative, and deserve to live in safety and comfort (Wagner 70). • 12. Heroic Ignorance And Gothic Novels By Jane Austen Heroic Ignorance and Gothic Novels Jane Austen s novel, Northanger Abbey, seeks to explore the effect of wealth on society. Throughout the novel, this portrayal of wealth assumes an increasingly critical tone, and is thus used to suggest the negative impact of financial goals in a relationship. This is shown in the contrast between Catherine s relationship with Mr. Tilney, and Isabella s promiscuous ways. In this dynamic, Catherine remains pure, engaged to a poor clergyman, whereas her friend Isabella ensnares men in the hopes of gaining wealth and societal status. Through this dynamic, Austen provides an example of the British Romantic ideal that both love and the individual are only pure and righteous when freed from the constraints of society and affluence. Ironically, the Gothic novels that were prevalent in the later part of the British Romantic Period are frequently cited as a source of misfortune throughout the novel. Catherine, who is portrayed as good and pure, is misled into believing that the stories spun in Gothic novels are applicable to her own life. Her friend, Isabella, is also portrayed as a lover of the genre, which is Austen s way of hinting at Isabella s future sins. Although the Gothics influence both Catherine and Isabella, Austen portrays the characters as opposites one the promiscuous villain and one the victim of the heroic tale. Austen continuously comments on the nature of heroism, and thus mocks the timid Catherine while ironically branding her a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Dog s Death Analysis Dog s Death Analysis Gail Kidder ENG125 English Literature Prof Kristen McClure December 10, 2012 Dog s Death by John Updike really touched me when I read it for the first time. His use of imagery in this poem is very touching. He makes the reader relate to the death of the dog by showing through his words the emotions of what the dog is going through as well as what his owners are feeling. This paper will show how I think the author was trying to use imagery to show the love between the dog and his owners. The reader response approach in literary criticism is where the author finds a personal link or imaginative entry into a story, poem, or play (Clugston, 2010). I believe that this approach would be the best type of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The helplessness of not knowing that there is something wrong. The feeling of guilt because you didn t realize any change in behavior to represent that something was wrong. In fact, in order to prove itself as good dog as defined by its human caretakers, the dog must do no less than conclusively demonstrate its loyalty (Karla Armbuster, 2002). This is displayed by how even though she is dying; she still drags herself to the newspaper so she won t get in trouble by her owner by going to the bathroom on the floor. Though surrounded by love that would have upheld her, nevertheless she sank and, stiffening, disappeared (John Updike, 1958). This is one part of the poem that really portrays the reader response approach to me because I have been in this position. I was holding my dog in my arms while my husband is driving. Knowing that he is dying and there is nothing in the world that you can do. You just have to hold them close and they can feel the love in your heart. Everyone at one point in their life experiences some sort of loss. Once you bring a pet into your home, they become part of the family. The unconditional love that you receive from them is the best thing ever. Like a child, you raise them, train them, and no matter what, they will always be a loyal, loving part of your family. So, the death of a pet, for some, can be a traumatic experience. You have so many feelings of loss and emptiness that is unexplainable unless you have gone through it ... These seven families were called: Zhao, Yeh, Chi, Hah, Wei, Chin, and Chu (First Emperor). He also undertook multiple construction projects and other projects that seemed almost impossible. • 16. Analysis Of The Book Jim Crow On Trial The book Jim Crow on Trial is very much centered around subjects of justice and fairness. As it follows a real court case, if must do so. The boys suffer through a time of unfair and often cruel treatment. They are accused by 2 white girls, tried by bias and racist juries, and finally, thrice convicted of rape and sentenced to death. In their last trial, some had their charges dropped, and others received only life in prison. Those in prison eventually left on parole. Only one of the boys was pardoned pre mortem, the rest pardoned 80 years after being accused. So could one honestly say they received justice? Or is there a time limit on this? These two facts allow one to state with confidence that at the beginning of the book, the boys were treated unfairly. Towards middle of the book is when justice becomes an important aspect. As we move into the court, we truly get to see all of the unfair moments and unjust components of both the trial and the case. Directly following their trial, their given sentence (death at the electric chair for all but one, who was sentenced to life in prison) was overturned. This coming after the Communist Party of America talked about this case, calling it, American injustice , and asserting that, the Negroes are wholly innocent of the crimes for which they were sentenced. . This shows that there was injustice in their trial, as the CPA chose to say. As the story goes on, they go through multiple other trials, each resulting in a sentence of either death or life in prison. In the end, they are given their final sentence. A compromise lead to 2 of the boys (the youngest) being set free, though not pardoned. They went to New York. As for the rest of the boys? They were locked away, and each eventually released on parole. This is excluding Patterson, who was given life in prison, which he eventually escaped. Cocletzi Research Paper Rachael Goodson Paper Discussion #2, Spring 2018 Summary of Cocletzi Paper This paper was about the bidirectional anatomical effects of mistletoe host the sweet gum tree (L. styraciflua) and the Mexican royal oak (Q. germana). It leads all decisions and outcomes, if one so chooses to believe in the concept of predestination. In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, three witches decisively go against their orders and toy with the lives of thousands of people by telling riddles of the future and it s biddings. Evidently, all those who were given a glance into their future by the meddling trio soon let sanity slip through their fingers and fell into their eventual demise. Macbeth was, at first, a wise and well adjusted Thane of Glamis but after his encounter with the Weïrd Sisters his nobility began to quickly falter. His wits last him until the insight that he will become the Thane of Cawdor proved the witches true. He follows his wife s footsteps and joins in on the apparent necessity of assassinating all those who may stand in his way. Unlike his wife, Macbeth s mind takes an early toll as he begins to hallucinate images that guide him in these tasks and wrought his mind with maliciousness and emotional pain. It is clear to see that his faith in the fortunes is what is wrenching his mind into such dark places. If not for being told of his greater becomings, Macbeth would have been satisfied with the life he led, as he was honored by his granted title to Thane of Cawdor. Only after meeting Macduff, who by word of the witches is the one who will kill him, does he realize that he may very well have been tricked: MACBETH. Accursèd be that tongue that tells me so, For it hath cowed my better part of man! And be these juggling fiends no more believed That palter us in a double sense, That keep the word of promise to our ear And break it to our hope. Our study determined how detrimental pet activity is on the environment, more specifically the water systems at Bulls Creek, Wild Basin, and McKinney Falls. My hypothesis was the if there is human and pet activity near water ways, there will be an increase in algae boom and chlorophyll a concentration because bacteria body material, and feces of the dog affects the water s health. Our results did not agree with our hypothesis because Chlorophyll a concentration was higher at McKinney Falls, where there was the most pet activity, and lower at Bulls Creek, even though pets were allowed also. Additionally, the Wild Basin, where there were no pets allowed, had samples with an unexpectedly high chlorophyll a concentration compared to the samples from Bulls Creek. Other factors including canopy cover, and urban runoff could have also altered water quality. I infer that the water quality was affected more by other factors. The two sites with about the same amount of human activity were McKinney Falls State Park and Bulls Creek. On the other hand, Wild Basin swimming is not allowed. Our results showed that the order from greatest to least amount of nitrate and phosphorous concentration was Bulls Creek, McKinney Falls, and Wild Basin at the lowest. Hence, because Bulls Creek was had the high amounts of human activity and nitrate and phosphorous levels, this relates Moreover, urban runoff highest at Bulls Creek, which has parking lots, highways, and buildings nearby, and also houses ... Cameron s purpose for this is to better represent and portray the possibility of assimilation to today s modern audience. He adopts a visually stimulating tone to better impact and leave his viewers with a lasting impression of his portrayal, that will better convey the feelings of transgression in the supremacist audience he is trying to reach. The ancient heroes help show what modern days hero would be like. How much variety will you choose for this assortment? If you happen to feel powerful or powerless when you make the choice, will your desire for variety be affected by the incidental power feelings? By contrast, if you need to customize the chocolate box for your family and friends instead of romantic partners, will your preference for variety be also influenced by the power feelings? Hose, in the Oxford English Dictionary, comes from the Old English hosa and has the meaning of an article of clothing for the leg (OED). Similarly, codpiece refers to a close fitting hose or breeches worn by men from the 15th to the 17th century (OED). Together, both hose and codpiece serve to remind the audience of Julia s character transformation, undergoing from a female mistress to a male page. Shakespeare s mention of infamy and scandalized may serve to depict the cultural attitude towards women s travelling, for Julia, as seen in her dialogues, may be subjected to being scandalized and an infamy for undertaking a journey, showing that women did have as much freedom as men do at the time. According to Lucetta, it is only through cross dressing as a male page that Julia is able to travel from Verona to Milan, without being scandalized and a public infamy, implying that a male attire offers more freedom of action and movement than female attire does. In other words, Shakespeare s mention of it and journey (as in character development) may point to Julia s cross dressing, and such action could result in her being scandalized and a public infamy, for cross dressing disrupts the concept of gender in Renaissance England. Integrated marketing communication (IMC) is defined as a cross functional process for creating and nourishing profitable relationships with customers and other stakeholders by strategically controlling or influencing all messages sent to these groups and encouraging data driven, purposeful dialogue with them (Duncan 2002, p. 8). To better understand the real world application of IMC, a call has been made for case histories that focus on IMC best practices (see Duncan and Mulhern 2004, p. 19). Other authors have related IMC to the decline in perceived effectiveness of television advertising, which encouraged organizations to divert resources toward a variety of other media (e.g., Duncan and Everett 1993; Kitchen and Schultz 1999; Rust and Oliver 1994). For the tobacco industry and companies such as ITL, regulated restrictions on access to different media further compelled them to seek a variety of nontraditional media. The case study of ITL and the Player s trademark is particularly interesting because the legal and political environment facing the firm has seemingly accelerated its move toward an IMC mind set and structure. Conceptually, IMC provides a useful theoretical context for illustrating the image development of particular cigarette brands, particularly in the context of understanding how tobacco companies attempt to use recurrent themes and strategies when making the transition from one mode of promotion to another. We acknowledge that IMC is not simply a multimedia coordinated campaign, and Duncan and Mulhern (2004) have noted that IMC is more than just tactical consistency, usually referred to as one voice, one look. The Act became effective on August 5, 1993. The Act required employers with fifty or more employees within a seventy five mile radius to offer eligible employees up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave during a twelve month period for a variety of medical reasons. Otherwise, the employee retains all FMLA rights for any future problems or a recurrence of the original injury. This can be a problem when the employee takes FMLA leave intermittently, to receive rehabilitative services or other treatments.
