This document defines safety signs and their purposes. It discusses the four basic categories of safety signs - prohibition signs, mandatory signs, warning signs, and information signs. 4. DEFINITION OF SAFETY SIGNS
 A visual alerting device in the form of a sign,
label or other marking which advises the
observer the nature and degree of the potential
hazard which can cause an accident.
 It may also provide the direction to eliminate or
reduce the hazard and advise of the probable
consequences of no avoiding the hazard.

5. CATEGORIES OF SAFETY SIGNS
 There are four basic categories of safety
signs as follows:
1. PROHIBITION SIGNS
2. MANDATORY SIGNS
3. WARNING SIGNS
4. INFORMATION SIGNS
