SCBA
 PARTS OF SCBA
 SNAPS
 Safety is the very important factor on onboard ship. Still many
accidents are happening onboard due to fire. SCBA FOR CASUALITY
is a device which is used by one person during the inspection of fire
location.
 Our project is modifying the SCBA cylinder and face mask for the
usage of two persons during emergency while fighting the fire SCBA
FOR CASUALITY is the firefighting equipment. It is used during fire
accident on-board. Now a days safety is most important in ship. Still
now SCBA FOR CASUALITY is used by only one person. But in our
project we are modifying the cylinder and equipment of SCBA FOR
CASUALITY for the respiration of two persons. The present cylinder
onboard has the capacity time of 30minutes.
 So we want to increase the size of cylinder for 50 minutes. The warning
alarm will be set before the 15 minutes of emptying the cylinder.

 As we know SCBA is used by one person at a time but in advanced
 SCBA we are increasing the capacity of the Cylinder and attaching one
more
 outlet hose, reducing valve and face mask with previous one it is used only
 during the time of emergency by the suffocating person struggling during
the fire The user will be able to describe important aspects of safety and
demonstrate practical application as it pertains to emergency service
provider
 operations from memory, without assistance, to an accuracy of 70% and
the instructor's satisfaction. The user will be able to identify the basic
functions and uses of properly donning of self-contained breathing
apparatus.
 For ship between 500-2500 tons minimum two sets are
required.
 For ship between 2500-4000 tons minimum three sets are
required.
 For ship 4000 tons and above minimum four sets are required.
SOLAS:
1)As per SOLAS regulation 2/10.10
SCBA should not be crossed over 19kg and should not less than 200 litters
2) NFPA

HEALTH
FACEPIECE OR HOOD
 The North face piece assembly has a four-point adjustable
head harness. The face piece standard seal has a blended shape to
ensure a proper fit. A standard inner-mask oral/nasal cup reduces
dead-air space and CO2 buildup
 The North Air Hood is also available for users that prefer
to wear their own eyeglasses or may have facial hair that may
interfere with the sealing surface. The sealing surface of the hood
is around the neck, and there may not be any hair or jewelry
interfering with the neck seal. The North Air Hood is NIOSH
approved for entry into an IDLIH atmosphere .
 The Air Hood has a hard visor with a permanent anti-fog coating
that offers excellent vision, an inner oral/nasal cup to reduce
CO2 build-up, and adjustable side straps for a comfortable fit.
COMPACT DEMAND VALVE
(CDV)
 The patented Compact Demand
Valve regulator combines high flow
with allow profile to improve
mobility .
 The CDV exhalation valve greatly
reduces breathing resistance which
allows for longer duration of
cylinder use. The CDV is easily
docked into the face piece using a
threaded hand wheel. An optional
first breath CDV is also available.
FIRST STAGE PRESSURE REDUCER
 Air leaves the cylinder, passes through a sintered
bronze filter in the hand wheel assembly, and then
continues on to the first-stage pressure reducer where it is
reduced to approximately 125 psi.
 The reducer is a simple piston type that requires no
adjustment and incorporates an automatic, self-seat- ing
pressure relief valve to protect the downstream low-
pressure components. It is made of high quality
aluminum and is securely mounted to the cylinder.
 .
 The cylinder consists of atmospheric air of 200 bar, 2516 lit,
8.6cub.ft. When the cylinder valve 5 open 200 bar pressure
from cylinder is passed through reducing valve.
 In reducing valve the 200 bar pressure is reduced to 4 bar and
is passed through syphon tube to reach face mask as air comes
to the facemask.
 The pressure of air will be 1 bar which is atmosphere air
pressure, as we are connecting additional buddy breather with
help of non return ball valve which is three way. Buddy
breather can be connected during the time of emergency to
save the casualty without delay. This is simple working of
SCBA 40 lit air issued for I minute Training.

Fit Checks
Fit checks are to be conducted during
initial selection and training, and
puts on a respirator before entering a
contaminated atmosphere.
Negative Pressure Fit Check:
1. 1 Close off the respirator inlet or
inhalation valve, using the palm of the hand
over the opening
2. Gently inhale to create a slight vacuum in
an attempt to cause a partial inward
collapse of the face piece.
.
3. Maintain the vacuum inside the face
piece for at least 10 seconds.
4. If vacuum is not present rescuer
face piece seal and try again.
Positive Pressure Fit Check:
1. Close off exhalation valve and
exhale gently into the face piece.
2. The face fit is considered
satisfactory if a slight positive pressure
can be built up in side the face piece
 Inspect gauge for damage. Inspect cylinder for mechanical damage (cracks, dents,
gauges) or signs of heat or chemical damage "Guideline for Visual Inspection and at
Demand Valve 90 Requalification of Fiber Reinforced High Pressure Cylinders" for
all wrapped cylinders.)
 Check that hydrostatic test date on cylinder is current. Check that cylinder valve
threads are not damaged. Check that the valve body is not bent. Connect the CDV
to the FRONTIER face piece or hood by screwing the CDV hand wheel into the
hood or face piece. Make sure the manual red bypass knob is in the closed position,
i.e., fully turned clockwise. Open the cylinder valve slowly by turning the cylinder
valve knob counter-clockwise to the fully open position. Hold face piece tight to your
face.
 The whistle alarm should activate and then shut off. There should be no air flow
from the face piece. If air is flowing, check that bypass is closed. For the First
Breath CDV, inhale to activate airflow.

  • 8. FACEPIECE OR HOOD  The North face piece assembly has a four-point adjustable head harness. The face piece standard seal has a blended shape to ensure a proper fit. A standard inner-mask oral/nasal cup reduces dead-air space and CO2 buildup  The North Air Hood is also available for users that prefer to wear their own eyeglasses or may have facial hair that may interfere with the sealing surface. The sealing surface of the hood is around the neck, and there may not be any hair or jewelry interfering with the neck seal. The North Air Hood is NIOSH approved for entry into an IDLIH atmosphere .  The Air Hood has a hard visor with a permanent anti-fog coating that offers excellent vision, an inner oral/nasal cup to reduce CO2 build-up, and adjustable side straps for a comfortable fit.
  • 9. COMPACT DEMAND VALVE (CDV)  The patented Compact Demand Valve regulator combines high flow with allow profile to improve mobility .  The CDV exhalation valve greatly reduces breathing resistance which allows for longer duration of cylinder use. The CDV is easily docked into the face piece using a threaded hand wheel. An optional first breath CDV is also available.
  • 10. FIRST STAGE PRESSURE REDUCER  Air leaves the cylinder, passes through a sintered bronze filter in the hand wheel assembly, and then continues on to the first-stage pressure reducer where it is reduced to approximately 125 psi.  The reducer is a simple piston type that requires no adjustment and incorporates an automatic, self-seat- ing pressure relief valve to protect the downstream low- pressure components. It is made of high quality aluminum and is securely mounted to the cylinder.

  • 12.  The cylinder consists of atmospheric air of 200 bar, 2516 lit, 8.6cub.ft. When the cylinder valve 5 open 200 bar pressure from cylinder is passed through reducing valve.  In reducing valve the 200 bar pressure is reduced to 4 bar and is passed through syphon tube to reach face mask as air comes to the facemask.  The pressure of air will be 1 bar which is atmosphere air pressure, as we are connecting additional buddy breather with help of non return ball valve which is three way. Buddy breather can be connected during the time of emergency to save the casualty without delay. This is simple working of SCBA 40 lit air issued for I minute Training.

  • 15.   Fit Checks Fit checks are to be conducted during initial selection and training, and puts on a respirator before entering a contaminated atmosphere. Negative Pressure Fit Check: 1. 1 Close off the respirator inlet or inhalation valve, using the palm of the hand over the opening 2. Gently inhale to create a slight vacuum in an attempt to cause a partial inward collapse of the face piece. .
  • 16. 3. Maintain the vacuum inside the face piece for at least 10 seconds. 4. If vacuum is not present rescuer face piece seal and try again. Positive Pressure Fit Check: 1. Close off exhalation valve and exhale gently into the face piece. 2. The face fit is considered satisfactory if a slight positive pressure can be built up in side the face piece
  • 17.  Inspect gauge for damage. Inspect cylinder for mechanical damage (cracks, dents, gauges) or signs of heat or chemical damage "Guideline for Visual Inspection and at Demand Valve 90 Requalification of Fiber Reinforced High Pressure Cylinders" for all wrapped cylinders.)  Check that hydrostatic test date on cylinder is current. Check that cylinder valve threads are not damaged. Check that the valve body is not bent. Connect the CDV to the FRONTIER face piece or hood by screwing the CDV hand wheel into the hood or face piece. Make sure the manual red bypass knob is in the closed position, i.e., fully turned clockwise. Open the cylinder valve slowly by turning the cylinder valve knob counter-clockwise to the fully open position. Hold face piece tight to your face.  The whistle alarm should activate and then shut off. There should be no air flow from the face piece. If air is flowing, check that bypass is closed. For the First Breath CDV, inhale to activate airflow.
