Measuring Success: The Balanced Scorecard Approach - Clara Wong - SASSY 2014TEDx Adventure Catalyst
Presented at the 2014 Student Affairs and Services Symposium at York University. The Division of Students at York University has a strategic goal to create a data-informed and measurement-managed environment. With the launch of our 5-year strategic plan in March 2013, we adopted the balanced scorecard approach to translate our strategy into measurable terms and to monitor and evaluate our progress to drive performance for success.
During MoodleMoot 2011 MidKent College presented their Personal Learning Plan (PLP) developed from the ULCC block. The presentation included visual images of the MidKent PLP which included the 'FlightPlan' which is designed to keep students on target and provide a tool to assist tutors in the 'stretch and challenge' process.
This presentation will provide an update on what has happened since MoodleMoot 2011, what Ofsted said about the tool and how staff are now embracing the PLP as integral to their role.

A3 management is a fundamental Lean management practice for making effective improvement, solving problems, developing people, and building a learning organization.
While this disciplined approach generates more effective and sustainable results than traditional problem solving, it’s arguably the process of developing skilled coaches that carries the greatest organizational benefits -- including the cultural shifts needed to accelerate transformation.
With practice, the organization becomes more responsive, focused, and effective in delivering value to its customers and attracting and retaining talent.
In this webinar, you will learn:
• The mechanics of using PDSA (plan-do-study-adjust) for solving problems.
• The vital role coaching plays in building organization-wide problem solving capabilities.
• How to break the “telling” habit that disrespects a worker’s creative potential.
• How to systematically build coaching capabilities to accelerate learning.
All projects and programs are designed to deliver lasting and successful change. Yet research on project management confirms that most projects fail to meet the triple constraint (time, budget and scope) and fail to deliver the expected ROI. The most important barriers to success are "soft", people-related factors such as sponsorship, communication and culture. These are more important than "hard" factors such as resources, business process, and technology. This presentation covers the linkage between change management practice and project success, provides tips on diagnosing and addressing resistance to change, presents a framework to understand the factors affecting change capacity (skill and motivation), and describes the key roles, deliverables and best practices for change management within the project lifecycle.
Software Quality improvement through studying current process, performing gap / root cause analysis using Ishikawa/fishbone analysis to improve the process and there by reduce defects. This is part of Lean methodology study.

In July 2011, Ryerson University and York University signed the Inter-University Joint Teaching and Learning Initiative Memorandum of Understanding (“Ryerson-York Initiative”), a historic landmark agreement, establishing a foundation for interinstitutional collaboration in teaching and learning. The Ryerson-York Initiative builds upon both universities’ shared commitment to teaching excellence, positive student experience, institutional collaboration and access to post-secondary education. In particular the agreement aims to promote student mobility and enhance student experience by:
- Facilitating improved access by students of each institution to existing courses/programs offered at the other institution;
- Allowing students at each institution to customize their learning experience through increased choice and accessibility.

Presented at the 2014 Student Affairs and Services Symposium at York University.
Lizzio’s ‘Five Senses’ to Shape Residents’ First Year Experience. In the Spring of 2013, York’s Residence Life program shifted their student development framework to that of
Alf Lizzio’s (2006) “Five Senses of Successful Transition” focusing on the importance of positive transition and the First Year Experience. This shift strengthened our theoretical base, complimented the Division’s strategic plan, and allowed us to achieve outcomes that we strive for through residence programming. Using Lizzio’s Senses, as well as ACUHO-I and CAS Standards, we developed a student experience model that is institutionally-relevant, theory-based, and assessable. In this session participants will learn about York’s strategy, and gain relevant ideas for their departments.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
