This document provides guidance on rock weir design for fish passage at road crossings. It discusses sizing rocks using three methods: field inspection of stable rocks, rock slope protection revetment design, and boulder cluster design. Rock weir embedment is dependent on estimated scour potential from field inspection/survey or a toe-scour estimate equation. Rock weir geometry includes crest width of 2 times the D50 rock size, and an arc shape with radius calculated from the mid-chord offset and chord length. Step-pools between weirs have two equal layers - a top layer of native material or clean sand/gravel to support habitat, and a bottom layer of compacted rock weir backfill for stability
