Robert Boyle was born in 1627 in Ireland to a wealthy family and received an elite education. He studied natural philosophy and helped form the Invisible College, a group of scientists that later became the Royal Society. Boyle made significant contributions to chemistry through his experiments and publications, including discovering gases, developing Boyle's Law about the inverse relationship between a gas's pressure and volume, and showing that compounds have different properties than their constituent elements. His scientific work helped establish the experimental method in chemistry and advance the professionalization of science.
