Bluffs are steep cliffs formed by river erosion on the outside of river bends called meanders. They are typically found in the lower courses of rivers where deposition occurs from low water velocity. River bluffs are formed as the river erodes the outside of meanders, leaving high steep cliffs along the sides of the river valley.
