The data that have been
collected by following method will be in
the form of new data. The collected data
must undergo some processing before
analysis. The objectives of processing are
the following
 Checking the questionnaires and
schedules.
 Reduction of mass data to manageable
proportion.
 Sum up the materials so as to prepare
tables, charts, graphs and various
groupings and breakdowns for presenting
the result.
 Minimizing the errors which may creep in
at various stage of the survey

The processing of data involves activities
such as

TABULATION
EDITING
Editing means inspiring, correcting and
modifying the collected data. Before the
questionnaire can be regarded us ready for
coding, tabulation and analysis it should
be checked in the office for
o Completeness
o Accuracy
o Uniformity
The investigator has to take in to
consideration the following basic
problem before editing.
a) Fictitious interviews,
b) Inconsistent replies,
c) Incorrect answers,
d) Incomplete answers and
e) Don’t know or ‘no answer’.
