The document provides a review and analysis of the movie "12 Angry Men". It summarizes that the movie is about 12 jurors of varying backgrounds who must unanimously decide whether a 19-year old boy accused of murdering his father is guilty or not guilty. Initially, 11 jurors vote guilty while only one votes not guilty, leading to conflicts. The review then analyzes how factors like personality, emotions, perceptions, and emotional labor impacted each juror's behavior and vote.
The 1957 movie, 12 Angry Men, is on the list of every ‘top 10 movies’ list I’ve ever seen. And for good reason.
The movie opens with a jury of 12 men, who are instructed to consider the case of a young man who has allegedly killed his father. Juror No. 8 is the only one to initially vote ‘Not Guilty’, not because he believes the boy didn’t do it, but because he is not totally convinced that he did. As the movie progresses, one by one, he convinces the jury to vote ‘Not Guilty’.
The movie is an apt case study for good/bad arguments and emotional intelligence! About 90% of a Manager’s job is spent communicating with people (Project Smart), so being skilled in arguing and being empathetic is key for success! This is why we watched the movie on the Lancaster MBA Mindful Manager module.
So many things can be learned from the movie, but I have highlighted three main things that I personally took away.
The way human brain works can sabotage the choices we make. But bad decisions can often be traced back to the point where the decisions were made. The key is how a problem is framed and how to develop the solution.

2. Review on the Movie “12 Angry Men “
The basic theme of this movie is that a child of 19 years is accused of murder of his father .the court had
to take decision. For this purpose court had choosen 12 persons belonging to different age , status and
background .All of them were sent in a room to decide whether that boy is guilty or not because life of a
child now depend on their decision.
As the movie begins their were 11 voters who said that child is guilty but only one person said that he
cannot take decision without having talk on it due to which many of them got angry because they did not
want to discuss it due to which conflicts also arise.
Making of a Group:
The first thing is that their group was formed by the court. As in a group their were people of different of
different personalities, background and perceptions so it was difficult for them to talk on one table but
even then as they had the responsibility of taking decision so they try to do best according to their set of
mind.
Leadership Behaviour:
The person i.e. person no.8 was a man who was saying that he is not guilty.Actually he wanted to go
through facts and figures. In the whole movie he behave like a leader .He was supportive and also gave
respect to other view points .He had convincing power due to which many persons change their vote
from guilty to not guilty.
Emotions and Moods:
The emotions of persons were also affecting due to many reasons some of them are given below:
1. On that day the weather was hot due to which persons emotions were effected and everyone
was getting angry easily. They just want to make decision as early as possible. That was the
reason that many of them said in the beginning that boy was guilty
2. The day time was almost noon and that was the time when everyone wants to take some rest but
they were given a task to take decision.
3. Sleep is also the factor due to which their emotions were being effected.
4. Their emotions were also effected due to their personality differences
5. Age was also the factor because many were old enough and some were mediocor and they were
reacting as their age demanded from them.
Personlity: All of them have different kinds of personalities e.g.
Person No. 1: He was shy and an introvert type of person.
Person No. 2: He was just the supporter of facts and participate much.
3. Person No. 3: He had a strong type of personality who stick to whatever he said.
Person No. 4: He was a serious type of person but give his views and also support facts.
Person No. 5: He is shy but having strong view points. So, he has introvert and thinking type of
personality
Person No. 6 : He has an introvert type of personality but easily aggreable to anyone.
Person No.7 : He has intuitive type of personality and also have conflict view points with others
but actually did not want to make discussion .
Person No. 8: He may be called the leader of all because he had extrovert, thinking and judging
type of personality.
Person No. 9 : He is just a person who have more degree of agreeableness because he don’t take
interest in the matters
Person No.10: He has an introvert type of personality but also an angry men.
Person No. 11: He is the most confused one .He tried to convey his view points but lack of
communication skills.
Person No. 12: He don’t participate in anything.he has more degree of conscientiousness i.e. he
is not dependable as he changed his vote many times.
Emotional Labor:
All of them were displaying their behavior which was demanded by the court so they were doing
emotional labor. As in the beginning there was only vote of not guilty and 11 of guilty due to which they
had to make more discussion on it and were trying to be calm down and behaving good with others
whether they want or not..Emotional Dissonance was also observed in the movie.
Perception:
As all the 12 persons were belonging to different places ,having different background, different ages and
status as well so all of them were perceiving the murder case in their own way e.g.Person No.5 have an
experience that he was also a slum born child so he has different type of feelings that’s why he was
taking interest in this matter but Person No. 3 have a different experience with a child so he did not want
to discusss it and have a different perception about that accused child.
Conclusion:
So, this was the review of this movie. Analysis of behavior of different people was made
and it was shown how people behaviour is effected due to different reasons.
