What is a Resume/purpose?
A resume is a formal document that provides an overview of your professional qualifications,
including your relevant work experience, skills, education, and notable accomplishments.
Purpose:
 Good Resume gets you a foot in the door, its up to you to sell yourself in person
 An opportunity to show an employer why you are an ideal candidate for the job.
 Draw attention to your relevant skills, experience, achievements and potential

 Step2: Career Objective/professional profile/resume summary
 Step3:Education
 Step4:Experience
 Step5:Skills( Hard skills , soft skills , Technical skills)
 step6:Additional Sections( Certification, Publications, Awards/Honors)
Contact Information
 The top of your resume should include the following information:
 Name
 Phone number
 Email Address
 Address
 LinkedIn profile URL
Career Objective
 Objective shows your sense of direction. Your career objective is short summary in
one or two lines about –
 “the position you are applying for
 relevant experience
 how will I make your company successful
 For Example:
To obtain a position of graphic designer in advertising where I can utilize my
knowledge of design and time management skills in order to make industry successful.
Experience
 list any relevant work experience you have.
 Include your title, the company you worked for, years worked, and a bulleted list of
your key responsibilities and notable successes.

o Job location
o Your job title
o Start and end dates
 For example:
ABC Corporation, Seattle, WA
Distribution Manager (01/2017-Present)
Education
 Education Include in your education section:
• The names of your university, community college, or technical school
• Location of the schools (city, state)
• Date of graduation (month, year)
• Degree(s)
• GPA
 If you’re a few years into your career, your resume’s education section can be
minimized at the bottom of your resume
 If you’ve recently graduated college, your education section goes above your work
experience

Pertinent for graduate students who have published articles that are relevant to the
job they are applying
 Awards/Honors:
• Helps you stand out from your competition • break them up into smaller sections
(Academic, Volunteer positions, Scholarships etc.)

Do’s
 Use right keywords.
 Avoid paragraphs, try using bullet points
 Font Type/size
 Printing
 Look at other resumes to see how they are written
 Proof-read for spelling, punctuation, grammar and meaning.
 Keep the content concise and focused
 - Put the most important thing first. For Fresher – Academics.
Don’ts
 Don’t use jargons or slangs in your resume.
 Do not include information that might sound negative in the eyes of the employer
 Don’t include irrelevant information.
 Don’t copy paste matter from net, prefer retyping.
 Don’t fold your Resume, esp. over the text line.
Job Interview/purpose
 The most crucial 20- 40 minutes opportunity you have in your job seeking efforts
 The culmination of all your preparation, including education, and the key to
opening the door to your career.
Purpose;
 The Candidate’s role is to evaluate the position for fit with their personality and
career goals.
 The Selection Committee’s role is to evaluate the candidate’s fit for the position.
Before Interview
 Know the Employer:
• Prepare to demonstrate your knowledge of the profession and the company • Prepare to
give reasons for your interest in working in that profession/company
• Develop questions in advance to ask about the job/organization

A resume is a formal document that provides an overview of your professional qualifications, including your relevant work experience, skills, education, and notable accomplishments. Purpose:  Good Resume gets you a foot in the door, its up to you to sell yourself in person  An opportunity to show an employer why you are an ideal candidate for the job.  Draw attention to your relevant skills, experience, achievements and potential
  • 4. Basic Structure Of Resume  Step1:Contact Information  Step2: Career Objective/professional profile/resume summary  Step3:Education  Step4:Experience  Step5:Skills( Hard skills , soft skills , Technical skills)  step6:Additional Sections( Certification, Publications, Awards/Honors)
  • 5. Contact Information  The top of your resume should include the following information:  Name  Phone number  Email Address  Address  LinkedIn profile URL
  • 6. Career Objective  Objective shows your sense of direction. Your career objective is short summary in one or two lines about –  “the position you are applying for  relevant experience  how will I make your company successful  For Example: To obtain a position of graphic designer in advertising where I can utilize my knowledge of design and time management skills in order to make industry successful.

Experience  list any relevant work experience you have.  Include your title, the company you worked for, years worked, and a bulleted list of your key responsibilities and notable successes. o Company o Job location o Your job title o Start and end dates  For example: ABC Corporation, Seattle, WA Distribution Manager (01/2017-Present)

Education  Education Include in your education section: • The names of your university, community college, or technical school • Location of the schools (city, state) • Date of graduation (month, year) • Degree(s) • GPA  If you’re a few years into your career, your resume’s education section can be minimized at the bottom of your resume  If you’ve recently graduated college, your education section goes above your work experience
