The respiratory system allows air to enter the nose and pass to the pharynx and larynx before entering the trachea which divides into bronchi. The bronchi further divide into bronchioles and alveoli, resembling a bunch of grapes. Over 400 million alveoli exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide with blood vessels. The lungs appear cone-shaped to fit in the chest cavity, with the left lung smaller to make room for the heart below. Lungs hold around 3.3 liters of air and constantly inflate and deflate through breathing day and night.
