Definition:
 A research report is a complete study that reports an
investigation or exploration of a problem, identifies
questions to be addressed and includes data collected,
analysed and interpreted by the researcher.
Difference between research
report and research proposal :
 A research report is prepared after a study is completed
whereas a research proposal is prepared before a study
begins. A research report communicates what was
actually done in a study and what resulted whereas a
research proposal communicates a researcher's plan for a
study.
Structure of Research Report
 It consists of three main sections.
 1. Introduction
 2. Main body of the report
 3. Reference section
1. Introduction
 It consists of:
 1. Title page
 2. Acknowledgements
 3. Table of contexts
 4. List of tables
 5. List of figures
 6. Abstract
1.1 Title page:
 It identifies the title of the report, the name of the
researcher, the name of the guide, institution, month and
year of submission.
 The title should communicate what studytudy is about.A
well constructed title makes it easy for the reader to
understand and determine the nature of the topic.
1.2 Acknowledgements:
 This page permits the writer to express appreciation to persons who
have contributed significantly to the researcher
1.3 Table of contexts:
 The table is an outline of the report that indicates the
page number on which each major section and
subsection begins
1.4 List of tables:
 A list of all the tables included in the report along with
the page numbers should be provided
1.5 List of figures:
 All the figures should be included in the report
1.6 Abstract
 It is a brief but comprehensive summary of the research
report
2. Body of the Report:
 1. Review of related literature
 2. Design of the study
 3. Analysis of data
 4. Results and discussion
 5. Summaryand Conclusions
 It provides the theoretical framework of the study within
which the research has been conducted, background
information of the topic as well as the need for and
rationale for the research, to make the material more
logical, useful and interesting for readers
2.1 Review of related literature:
 It indicates what is known about the problem or topic. Its
functions is to educate the reader about the area under
study
2.2 Design of the study:
 This section provides the detailed description of
methodology used in the study. It's purpose is to
describe in detail how a researcher performed the study
so that someone should be able to replicate the study
based on the information that a researcher provides in
this section.
2.3 Analysis of data:
 It describes the statistical techniques that were applied to
the data and the result of these analyses
 Tables and figures are used to present findings or graphic
form which add clarity in findings for a reader
2.4 Results and discussions:
 It tells the reader what was found in the study. It includes
the descriptive statistics for the relevant variables.
 The discussion section is where the researcher interprets
and evaluates the results.
 The discussion of a research report section presents
theoretical and practical implications of the findings and
make recommendations for the future research.
2.5 Summary and Conclusions:
 Conclusion is the summary of main ideas that come out
from the discussion. It draws all arguments and findings
together. It indicates where hypotheses were accepted or
rejected. It summarises major findings of the study.
3. Reference Section:
 It tells about the sources from where a researcher has
taken data and material from.
Appendix
 It provides a place for important information. It includes
tools prepared by the researcher and used in the study.
