The Narrative
• The narrative of the educating series is they will usually have a
child who is either misbehaving or has problems in school and is
about their redemption story of he has been bad throughout
school but realises he needs his grades to go onto what he wants
or if he continues wont be able to go prom but on the other hand
some of the storylines are about the highs and lows of school
learning new things failing every so often but carrying on e.g
Mushraf who had a bad stama and could not talk and had a oral
English exam and his teacher helped him and gave him confidence
to do it and succeed so overall the narrative is starting low and
achieving your goal no matter how big or small it is
Editing/transitions/shots/mise en scene
• The mise en scene is the episode is that everyone is in school uniform
and teachers are in smart attire to set a good example to the pupils
• The shot types in the documentary are high angle shot as the camera are
placed at the top of the room and same In corridors so they don’t know
their being filmed also there are some close ups their as well when a
child is messing around and also is interviews were they get a mid shot
• It is quite fast paced in terms of editing as goes from a classroom scene
to in the corridor to interview in short space of time and at the start
there is a very fast paced edit where they go around the whole school
setting up what is happening
Use of sound
• The use of sound in the documentary is things you would hear
around the school as when the episode is about to start you hear a
bell ring and you hear the pupils talking with a narrator talking
over the top of them explaining what is happening and usually
making a few jokes about what is happening. There is usually
ambient sounds in the background.
