 QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university
rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS)
 QS ranking - one of the three most-widely read university rankings in the
world.
 QS system comprises the global overall and subject rankings along side five

 Citation- piece of research publications being cited (referred to)
 More often a piece of research is cited by others, more influential it is.
 More highly cited research papers a university publishes, stronger its
research output is considered.
 QS collects all this info by Scopus
 Total citation count is assessed in relation to the numbers of academic
faculty members at the university.

The term academic journal applies to scholarly publications in all fields; this article
discusses the aspects common to all academic field journals.
Articles in scientific journals are mostly written by active scientists such as students,
researchers and professors instead of professional journalists.

different subjects there are different abstracting and indexing services.
For example Pubmed is one for biomedical journals.
Why is indexing essential?
 Indexing will help your journal achieve its main purpose of being accessible to
a wide audience.

source of high-quality information in your field.
 Database research is the first activity researchers undertake as part of their
study, and they naturally look to established, well-known databases. Thus,
being indexed in a known database in your field will help increase your
journal’s readership.

19. Journal Paper - Classification
Original Research Article
 This is the most common type of journal manuscript used to publish full
reports of data from research. It may be called an Original Article, Research
Article, Research, or just Article, depending on the journal.
 The Original Research format is suitable for many different fields and
different types of studies.
 It includes full Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections.
 any new findings and new work carried out by one.
 Word Limitations - should around 3000-5000 words
 Paper evaluated by 2 or 3 reviewers

editors believe will be interesting to many researchers, and that will likely
stimulate further research in the field.
 As they are relatively short the format is useful for scientists with results that are

 Reviews commonly cite approximately 100 primary research articles.

 A review article is an article that summarizes the current state of
understanding on a topic.
 A review article surveys and summarizes previously published studies,
rather than reporting new facts or analysis.
 Review articles are sometimes also called survey articles or, in news
publishing, overview articles.
Review articles teach about:
 the main people working in a field
 recent major advances and discoveries
 significant gaps in the research
 current debates and ideas of where research might go next

23. Case study
 These articles report specific instances of interesting phenomena.
 A goal of Case Studies is to make other researchers aware of the possibility
that a specific phenomenon might occur.
 This type of study is often used in medicine to report the occurrence of
previously unknown or emerging pathologies.
Methodologies or Methods
 These articles present a new experimental method, test or procedure.
 The method described may either be completely new, or may offer a better
version of an existing method.
 The article should describe a demonstrable advance on what is currently
available.
