is used to represent the teenage
audience as it is hip hop and that is
stereotypically what teenagers
listen to.
The fast paced nature of
the song is also used to
engage the audience as it
is more likely to be
appealing and keep
them interested than a
slow paced song.
The 21 Jump Street
opening sequence is
based in a school this
represents both the
teenage audience and
the teenage characters
as they can relate to the
location.
One of the protagonists
stutters when talking to a
friend, this represents the
teenage audience because it
demonstrates the pressure
to say the right thing and to
not embarrass themselves.
One of the protagonists ‘Schmidt’ is
dressed as ‘Slim Shady/Eminem’ this
represents that a lot of teens don’t
know who they are yet and therefore
base themselves on a role model, who
they look up to.

weak and vulnerable.
The mise-en-scene’s use of the colours
bright red and blue are used to represent
the teenage primary audience as the
colour red connotes danger and energy, it
also represents strong emotions. Whereas
the blue connotes stability and calm,
these colours are used together to
represent the teenage audience as they
are emotional, and don’t know who they
want to be yet.
The colour red is also representative of how
society stereotypically as dangerous, angry
and violent, the red has been used to
represent the audience in this way as well.
Most of the editing uses
cuts between shots this
represents the target
audience as restless and
energetic.

demonstrate the happy and
carefree attitude of the
teenage target audience and

film.

The opening to Clueless introduces the teenage
characters in the film, throughout the opening
sequence they are represented as being more
interested in parties, having fun and being popular
than working hard. This negative representation of
the teenage characters and the teenage audience
makes it harder for the teenage audience to relate to
the characters and the film.

as they are thought to be
active and full of energy
and get bored easily.

represents the characters in
the film and the teenage
target audience.

demonstrate the
energetic nature of the

audience and the
characters.
This is also shown
in the jerky and
shaky camera
movement.
The use of high key
lighting represents
teenagers as happy.
The opening of
Clueless is made up of
a lot of close ups this
shows the emotions of
the character and
engaging the audience
as they can relate.
The sunny, beach location doesn’t represent
the teenage audience very well as most
teens in other countries such as England
don’t like in expensive glamorous areas, this
makes it hard for some to relate.
