2. • In an interview I spoke with the Managing Director:
Rupert Preston about why he thinks Vertigo Films was the
best company to distribute the new coming of age film
‘Lonely This Christmas’.
• Vertigo Films is an independent company who produce
and distribute low budget art house films that target a
smaller more specific audience than those targeted by
blockbuster companies such as Paramount Pictures.
3. Ella Henley (EH): Why do you think you are the best option for the distribution of our
film?
Rupert Preston (RP): Even though we are a smaller company and may not have the
large resources that companies such as Paramount Pictures. However Vertigo Films as
an independent company will have experience distributing independent films such as
‘Lonely This Christmas’.
As we are the producers and distributors of ‘Lonely This Christmas’ we know how best
to target the primary audience and what message we want to put across through the
marketing.
4. EH: How do your companies aims relate to distributing our new coming of age film
‘Lonely This Christmas?’
RP: The aim of Vertigo Films is to create and distribute commercially driven
independent cinema. As ‘Lonely This Christmas’ was produced by Vertigo films
making it an independently produced film, we have experience marketing
independent films and to make sure they reach the right audience.
EH: Why will working alone using resources from your company only help the
marketing?
RP: Being a smaller film production company, the film will not be made with as a
bigger budget as those given to films produced by blockbuster companies; for
example Universal or 20th Century Fox. However this means we can spend more
money on the marketing to make sure it reaches the audience, making it more likely
to turn a profit.
5. EH: Do the themes and issues raised in ‘Lonely This Christmas’ reflect the
values and ideas of Vertigo Films.
RP: Yes, of course they do everyone at Vertigo Films is trying to help teens deal
with the struggle of growing up and we believe a very easy way to help them
deal with any issues they may be facing is through cinema. It’s a light hearted,
non-intrusive, creative way of helping them understand and deal with
situations in their lives. Coming of age films also help teenagers realise they
are not the only ones going through these issues.
EH: Thank you for your time Mr Preston.
