1. Representation analysis.
The main singer of ‘Bring me the horizon’ is portrayed in a very
stereotypical way. Firstly he’s screaming, which makes him seem angry
and mad, something that those who listen to rock stereotypically are.
He’s also looking directly at the camera which makes him come across
as intimidating and bold, it also seems like he’s addressing the audience
personally. He is covered in a range of tattoos, they are mostly dark
colours which it’s in to the genre also tattoos are something
stereotypically the target audience of the magazine would get as they
are seen as wild. His clothing choice is very contemporary and as the
teen target audience are seen to be very fashion conscious it will appeal
to them and they will find him stylish. His top is also black which is dark
something that the genre is associated with. His hair is black, long and
covers his face and could be describe as ‘emo’ this is something that
people would call fans or rock and hence his style may appeal to them
more. The artist is also young which makes him relatable to the young
target audience the magazine has.
The image on the front half of the page of Blink 182 represents the
artist in a number of ways. Firstly, he seems very passionate about his
music as he’s sweating on his knees presumably looking in to the crowd,
fans of the rock genre are also stereotypically passionate about the
music so this helps the readers relate to how the artist is feeling. Once
again, he’s wearing all black clothes which helps with the dark way rock
is thought about by others. The image is taken in low lighting which
once again sets the dark mood. It has red stage lights and as red is
associated with blood and violence it fits with the way that rock fans are
also associated with violence and causing trouble. The other smaller
images fit with the dark stereotype with their lighting and angles. The
image on the middle right shows a person with long hair which he
appears to be flipping, this upholds the wild way rock genre fans are
perceived.

2. Marilyn Manson is portrayed in an extremely gothic way, this is stereotypical of the rock genre.
He is portrayed this way by firstly, the lighting which is dark hence creating a moody mysterious
atmosphere. He is also wearing white make up with black lipstick and outlines, these contrast
making him stand out and look bold, something the rock genre is associated with, boldness. He is
also pulling a very serious face which could be taken as scary and intimidating. He’s got a cape -
like thing attached to him which makes him seem out of the ordinary and weird something rock
fans stereotypically are.
