1) An experimental study was conducted to evaluate replacing steel reinforcement with bamboo in reinforced concrete beams. Mix designs and material tests were conducted to design RCC beams with steel and bamboo reinforcement. 2) Beams were cast and tested to failure under single point loading. The RCC beam with steel reinforcement failed at 77.8kN while the bamboo reinforced beam failed at 40kN, demonstrating lower load capacity for bamboo. 3) However, bamboo reinforced beams were found to have lower material costs and weights compared to steel reinforced beams, making bamboo reinforcement a potential option for low-cost housing construction.
