Rembrandt Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of Rembrandt can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. The
difficulty lies not only in the vastness and complexity of Rembrandt's life and work but also in
the need to encapsulate his artistic genius within the confines of an essay.
The first hurdle is the extensive research required to understand the multifaceted aspects of
Rembrandt's life, his artistic evolution, and the historical context in which he lived. Delving into
art history, biography, and critical analyses of his paintings becomes imperative to grasp the
nuances of his contributions to the art world.
Furthermore, expressing one's insights about Rembrandt's artistry demands a nuanced
understanding of various artistic techniques, styles, and thematic elements. Describing the
interplay of light and shadow, the emotive qualities in his portraits, and the profound symbolism
in his biblical scenes requires a keen eye and an adept command of art vocabulary.
Organizing these thoughts into a coherent and compelling essay structure poses another
challenge. Balancing historical context, artistic analysis, and personal interpretation requires
finesse to ensure a seamless flow of ideas. Crafting a thesis that encapsulates the essence of
Rembrandt's impact on art and culture adds an additional layer of complexity.
Moreover, the risk of oversimplification or overcomplication looms large, as it's essential to strike
the right balance between accessibility for a general audience and depth for those with a more
profound interest in art history.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Rembrandt demands a blend of research, analytical skills, and
a profound appreciation for art. However, the satisfaction of unraveling the layers of
Rembrandt's genius and sharing those insights with readers can make the endeavor exceptionally
fulfilling.

Lawn Mower
While I develop my marketing strategy for my self propelled robotic lawn mower,
the first step I would take is determining the market for my product. I understand
that the main appeal to my product is that it is a convenience product, but it is not
a necessity and most likely will to be offered at a lower price than existing lawn
mowers on the market. Because of this, some of the characteristics of my target
market is they are economically well off, live in suburban or urban areas and have
limited. This segment is willing to pay extra for the convenience of saving time due
to their spending power. This target market is attractive because they fulfill the
requirements for effective segmentation. Their spending power is measurable, their
market is accessible and can be served, there s a substantial amount of money in this
segment, affluent people are differentiable as marketingto the wealthy is much
different than typical advertising, and the information on them is actionable, allowing
us to effectively make a marketing plan.

The other segment is a large population of middle income suburban people who
want to save time. Since time and money are both very important to this segment,
price will be an important factor as this segment is much less willing to pay top
dollar for this convenience. Both segments are attractive for different reasons, one for
the amount of money and one for the number of potential customers. Regardless of
which market segment is chosen, both satisfy the five criteria needed for effective
segmentation which would allow our company to take the next step and develop a

The Hatchery And Stocking Enterprise
Section 3: How This Case Relates TO CEQA In this case the plaintiff, CBD,
litigated CDFW on the following principles of CEQA: rules governing PEIRs,
baseline setting, deferral of mitigation and alternative analysis. In regards to PEIRs
it is defined by CEQA as an EIR which may be prepared on a series of actions that
can be characterized as one large project and are related [among other possibilities] ...

The exception states that measures may specify performance standards which
would mitigate the significant effect of the project and which may be
accomplished in more than one specified way. (CEQA Guidelines, 15126.4, subd.
(a)(1)(B).) In addition, it was concluded through a prior case that when for
practical reasons, mitigation measures cannot be fully formulated at the time of
project approval, the lead agency may commit itself to devising them at a later
time, provided the measures are required to satisfy specific performance criteria
articulated at the time of project approval (Sacramento Old City Assn. v. City
Council (1991) 229 Cal.App.3d 1011, 1028 1029.) Finally, in regards to alternative
analysis the purpose of a no project alternative is to allow decision makers to
compare the impacts of approving the proposed project with the impacts of not
approving the proposed project (CEQA GUIDELINES, 15126.6, subd. (e)(1).) In
this court case if the project is the revision of an existing land use or regulatory plan,
policy or ongoing operation, the no project alternative will be the continuation of the
existing plan, policy or operation into the future (CEQA Guidelines, 15126.6, subd.
(e)(3)(A).) The case in addition supports the
My Only Friend In My Life
Inside the high school, I walk to my first period class, geometry. The study of
shapes, something I ll never use in life. However long that life may be.
That s when I see my only friend in the world after J died: Rachel Myers. Strange,
considering she s white and usually their kind don t hang out with the colored folk. I
walk up to her and tap her locker to get her attention. What do you want, Marcus? she
asks, not even bothering to look at me. Yup, that s how great of friendswe are now.
What s your problem? Daddy lower your allowance? I shoot back. Here s the thing.
We re okay, you and me. But we re not friends, not anymore, so stop acting like we
are. I don t want to be seen with you. I m not here to get the crap beaten out of me,
so sorry, but screw off.
Are you screwing with me? I ve known you and we ve been friends since 2nd effing
grade! The words go from a shout to a hushed whisper as I remember what happens
to the kids who make too much noise. And I m cutting the friendship off, she says
like a bitch as she walks away from my life. I wrap my fingers around the cuff of
her long sleeved shirt. Ohhh no. Oh no you effing don t. You don t get to walk
away from me. Not after all the crap we ve been through. My only arm ripped away
from that traitor as my shirt is yanked back and I m choked. An infamous voice
booms from my attacker. This faggot bothering you, Rachel? I whip my head around.

Essay on Free Will
Free Will
A definition of free will, as we have seen, can be misunderstood and easily distorted.
For the purpose of this essay free will, will be defined as the ability to chose, express
ones feelings, emotions, or actions unconditionally.
From the first time I understood the meaning of what free will was, I believed in it
100%. I had the right and ability to choose what ever I liked. Not only did I believe
that I had free will but if I ever heard otherwise I felt that the other person did not
have a clear understanding of what free will was, and as a result I could demonstrate
a fairly strong persuasive argument opposing anything but the existence of free will. I
would illustrate a situation in which there seemed to be no ... Show more content on

I grew up in a household where I was taught that I was and will always be free. I
also never had any religious affiliation within my first 8 years of schooling, which
might have influenced me to think differently. The illustration of a gun to ones
head is also rooted within the environment of others as well as my own. We can
assume that the majority of people would want to live in that situation and therefore
follow what is being asked of them. Now is that there free will? I don t think so.
The fact that they choose to live is based on their enjoyment of life and there lessons
that they have been taught by their upbringing, this is their environment. The same
would be true on an extreme end. Somebody may make the decision to not obey and
sacrifice his or her life because of extreme misery and discontent. Furthermore, the
reason for the unhappiness may be a result of heredity. The victim s mother could
have used drugs, or something similar that which had an effect on her child.
God plays an interesting role in this explanation of free will. Presently, after having
about 7 years of religious education I feel like I am educated enough to speak of
God. I believe that people can be affected by God within there decision making and
often have God make the choice for them. For example, the choice to remain celibate
until marriage, that is God s wishes
The Impact Of Advertising Campaigns In Advertising
In this paper, I will analyze the ethical challenge that represents misleading people
s choices through manipulative advertisements campaigns. I will focus on one
specific case, the Nivea Slim Complex cream, which was charged by the Federal
Trade Commission of the United States with a fine of $900,000. The claimed of
Nivea s Marketers was that women would lose weight only by using the cream.
This deceptive claim was taken and overseen by the Trade Commission ending
with legal consequences against Nivea. Nivea s misleading advertisement
campaign represents an ethical challenge because it is clearly lying to consumers
in order to increase their sales. On the other hand, Nivea is a business, and as such,
it needs to have revenues. The events regarding this case are presented as follow:
The advertsiment was aired across the U.S. I could not find a specific date of its
released. The Advertisement ...shows a woman applying the cream, before
discovering that she can fit into an old pair of jeans. (Abraham, par. 6). On June 29,
2011, the Federal Trade Commissionreleased a publication under the Customer
Protection Tag regarding Nivea s deceptive campaign. The legal settlement of the
Federal Trade Commission states:
As part of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers from over hyped advertising
claims, the Federal Trade Commission reached a settlement requiring Nivea skin
cream maker Beiersdorf, Inc. to stop claiming that regular use of its Nivea My

Cultural Strain Theory Paper
Introduction The Cultural Strain Theory states that persons of different cultures have
a harder time developing relationships, than persons of the same culture. There are
many different theories that reveal the terms and aspects that are needed to develop a
relationship. Reducing one s uncertainty towards the other, having low levels of
anxiety, and being able to relate to the relationship partner are all vital to developing a
relationship. There are three theories that address these three relationship
components. Uncertainty Reduction Theory, Anxiety Management Theory, and the
Relational Theory are the theories that I used to develop the Cultural Strain Theory.
Uncertainty Reduction Theory The Uncertainty Reduction Theory states that
relationship development is a process of reducing uncertainty about one another.
When developing relationships, people desire to reduce the uncertainty about the
other person by attaining information about them (Bradac, 1982). Reducing the
amounts of uncertainty is an important component in a relationship. There are three
main reasons why people feel uncertain: anticipation of future interaction, incentive
value, and deviance. Anticipation of future interaction deals with the way one feels
about someone else when they know they will see them in the future. If someone is
guaranteed to see a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory describes five good things that fosters relationships and empowers the
people involved in them. It talks about the importance of having a sense of zest or
well being, which comes from connecting with another person, and the ability and
motivation to take action in the relationship as well as in other situations. The five
good things also include the increased sense of worth and knowledge of oneself and
the other person, and a desire for more connections beyond the particular one

American Anime Censorship
Japan and its people is open minded to many thing which has led to very bizarre
actions such as cartoon porn and hentai being able to be purchased in bookstores and
convenience stores throughout the country. This show how censorship and cartoons
are treated compared to America. In America cartoons are considered childish but in
Japan cartoon can be viewed by everyone and to all types of people. Due to Japanese
animationsuccess to appeal to huge audiences around the world, it has grown to
become one of the strongest mediums in Japan and the U.S. Question is how is
Japanese animation different compared to American animation? Animecan be differed

The times mature content is censored is on TV. Many people watch TV so the
possibility of a child watching a mature show is high but it censored to a degree. In
Japan, Article 21 of the Japanese Constitution guarantees freedom of expression
and prohibits formal censorship. Freedom of assembly and association as well as
speech, press and all other forms of expression are guaranteed. No censorship shall
be maintained, nor shall the secrecy of any means of communication be violated
(Japanese Constitution). Videos Games and anime from Japan will have nearly
any forms of sexual content be censored with the teams creating product asked to
either add clothes to the characters or make the female character s less sexy . This
result of censorship in america has resulted in anime and video games creators
hesitate to released materials to america. There s no such thing as underage when
it comes to art. These characters are pixels on a screen, not people. Even of age
characters are, in actuality, less than one year old when most of us see them; and
on the flip side, characters who ve been around for a long time, like Lisa Simpson,
are in their 20s. The age the character is given in continuity is just a number. It s not
representative of anything real.If these were real people, yes, I d agree it s something
that cannot stand. But they re not. And that makes all the difference in the world
Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince
Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito
and The Apology. Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates
experience times of turmoil where the concept of democracy was questioned.
However, the different time periods cause the views and purposes of Machiavelli s
writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil
where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s
struggled to regain power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more
cynical and pessimistic in comparison to Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince
, he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem his portrayal of a prince as
immoral. Their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does
virtue come, but from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human
beings both privately and publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna
comes from virtue and presents a cause and effect relationship, contrary to the
interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince should use
philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success.
Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because
the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views,
he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This
contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis
on fortune.
However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in
Socrates legacy. Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the
two and the unnecessity of fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has
found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected figure today. He turned
down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased
remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without
fortuna. Although Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so
he is a figure that is

Kansas has many state parks and the popular place is the monument rocks and the
castle rocks. The monument rocks and the castle rocks have fossils in ancient
chalks in plain western Kansas which is a spectacular landmark. The chalk was
deposited during the Cretaceous period of geological history about 80 million
years ago, when the central interior was covered by sea. The fossils were like shark
teeth, fish bones, even dinosaur bones, and other sea creatures. The fossils in the

Kansas, situated on the American Great Plains, became the 34th state on January
29, 1861. Its path to statehood was long and bloody: After the Kansas Nebraska
Act of 1854 opened the two territories to settlement and allowed the new settlers to
determine whether the states would be admitted to the union as free or slave,
North and South competed to send the most settlers into the region. This quickly
led to violence, and the territory became known as Bleeding Kansas. Kansas has
long been known as part of America s agricultural heartland, and is home the major
U.S. military installation Fort Leavenworth. Between 1541 and 1739 explorers
from Spain and France came to Kansas for gold. Historians have reported that
Native Americans were living in Kansas as early as 12,000 B.C. The United States
concluded a deal when it signed an agreement to purchase the entire Louisiana
Territory from France. William Becknell used wagons instead of pack mules or
horses to take trade goods over the Santa Fe Trail. Because Becknell found a good
mode of transportation and a passable wagon route, he is credited as the Father of
the Santa Fe Trail. Formed in the chaos of the beginnings of the Civil War, Kansas
has transformed itself from the vast prairie land of the mid 19th century into the
important crossroads of American industry that it is today. Yet the facts of Kansas

Martin Luther, A Christian Theologian And Augustinian

Bible 2nd Assessment
Martin Luther Martin Luther, a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk has
taught and inspired the Protestant Reformation. His translation of the Bible has
helped to develop the correct version of the German language. Martin Luther was a
great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of November, 1483 in Eisleben,
Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501, he had been
enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed
during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way
back to school. With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a
monk! Since then, he dropped out of law school and started attending monastery
there. He would devote himself only to things like fasts, long hour prayers, and
constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he tried to do this
for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin
Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher,
Johann von Staupitz, ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all
his thoughts. So then Luther was ordained to the priesthood. So in the year of 1508,
Martin Luther started to teach theology at the University of Wittenberg. The difficult
time of study for academic degrees and preparation for the hard lectures drove Martin
Luther to study the Scriptures very deep. Luther engaged
Alarm Anxiety Of Alarm Fatigue
Hospitals are chaotic and can be difficult places to maintain safety if precautions
aren t taken. One way that healthcare providers attempt to combat safety issues is by
using different alarm systems to alert staff to issues in patient rooms. The many
different alarms can be beneficial but can also cause a phenomenon that is referred to
as alarmfatigue. Alarm fatigue is defined as a condition of sensory overload for
staff members who are exposed to an excessive number of alarms (Blake, 2014). It
is a national problem and the number one medical device technology hazard in 2012.
The problem of alarm desensitization is multifaceted and could be attributed most
heavily to high false alarm rates. Studies have indicated that the presence of false and
/or clinically insignificant alarms ranges from 80 90% (Cvach, 2012). The constant
alarms make it difficult for nurses to discern the difference between emergent and
annoying alerts and can cause many to not respond as urgently as necessary.
Background
I had a personal experience with the effects of alarm fatigue this semester. I was
working with an RN who graduated from JMU in 2010. We had multiple difficult
patients whom would ring their call bells or mess with their equipment every chance
they got. The nurse seemed annoyed with the alarms and began responding more
slowly and silencing alarms. After lunch, I went to check on my patient and saw
multiple nurses in her room. A tech told me that her IV had infiltrated and nobody
Martin Luther King Brutality
Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader throughout the 1950s and 1960s.
King supported the belief in non violent protests and peaceful demonstrations.
King also believed that nonviolent protest would be the most effective way to
fight against a racist and unjust society. King is well known for campaigns to end
racial segregation and racial inequality in the United States. In today s world
Martin Luther King Jr. is seen as a hero who guided others with his love and
compassion for peaceful demonstrations and non violence but during his time
people saw him as a villain due to the amount of power King had in bringing about
change and those who hated change, did not support King. King s power when he
was alive, scared people because they didn t know what to expect next, but after
his death the roles turned and the people started to control him. The main question
society thinks about today is, why was Martin Luther King Jr. so unpopular during
his time? One reason why King was so unpopular during his time was because of
his extramarital affairs. People believed because of his compulsive sexual
athleticism he wasn t a good leader, but his personal life has nothing to do with his
intelligence towards civil rights. Just because he cheated on his wife, it does not
mean he isn t capable of being an amazing leader. Another reason People black and
white, both believed King was not fit to be a leader was because they believed
King put them in harm s way due to the issues he was fighting. Some non violent
protests turned out violent which was out of King s control, therefor some believe
he caused a lot of disturbances because of this. Some people liked to call King Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. while others believed you shouldn t call him Doctor . Parts
of Dr. King s doctoral dissertation and other academic papers from his student years
appeared to have been plagiarized. A professor from the City University of New
York, who wrote a biography on Dr. King, had a change in his opinion on King after
finding out the allegations against King. Mr. Garrow said This has altered my
judgment of him as a person, though it hasn t shaken my tremendous regard for his
courage and dedication to his movement.
Schizophrenia In Kurt Vonnegut s Breakfast Of Champions
Many would argue that Kurt Vonnegut severed the Billy Pilgrim from within
himself as a therapeutic process to save his own sanity. (Broer 95) Billy Pilgrim
resembles Vonnegut through his experiences at war, as a prisoner and surviving the
bombing of Dresden. Both men also survived a plane crash and have an detachment
to their emotions. (Klinkowitz, Vonnegut in Fact, 5) Vonnegut used the creation of
his character to cope and treat himself. By making a separate character, he has
created a person to project onto and embody his trauma. In one of Vonnegut s novels,
Breakfast of Champions (1973), he tells readers that schizophrenia has always
fascinated him. He continues to say that he did not know for certain if he had
schizophrenia but that he was sick for awhile which indicates Vonnegut... Show more

[In 1944], Billy first came unstuck while the Second World War was in progress
(Vonnegut 18). This would reason out schizophrenia according to Diagnostic and
Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The manual states a traumatic event would
not cause schizophrenia and common symptoms would include hallucinations,
aggression and hearing voices. Although Billy suffers from hallucinations, he does
not meet the threshold of being a schizophrenic. It could be further interpreted that
Billy Pilgrim suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). According to the
American Psychiatric Association (1994), symptoms of PTSD include re
experiencing trauma through memory, hyperarousal, avoidance, and numbing general
responsiveness. Billy shows these symptoms throughout the novel: being spastic in
time metaphorically indicates Billy s reliving the memories of traumatic events, Billy
avoids conversation about the war and his experiences with other characters, and
Billy shows no emotion suggesting numbness. (Vees Gulani
Character Of Queen Esther
Queen Esther: A Heroic Analysis of the Biblical Figure Out of all the female
characters in the Bible, Esther stands out as one of the most heroic and complex
figures. As a comparison, she could easily be equated to the heroic Joseph from the
book of Genesis as they both have similar experiences in the royal court. But unlike
Joseph, Esthers most heroic trait is not that she can analyze dreams. Rather, her most
important feature is that she is a wise strategist, which allows her to save the Jews
and her cousin, Mordecai. Yet, Esther does not begin her journey as a cunning
tactician. She is molded and shaped by her surroundings and other heroic features. In
fact, it is these additional qualities that accumulate and extend to her becoming a...

Another criticism against Esther is that she is too obedient towards the men in the
story, and thus too stupid to think for herself. However, obedience is a virtue
observed in heroes and should be valued in Esther. Song offers the example of
when Esther [does] not reveal her people or kindred, for Mordecai had charged her
not to tell, (Est. 2.10). In Old Testament tradition, a wise person is someone who
listens to and obeys their elders. Additionally, by obeying the king s eunuch,
Hegai, and [asking] for nothing except what [he advised] she displays prudence
(Est. 2.15). Song points out how Esther realizes that Hegai has made an important
ally in him as he knows what King Ahasuerus likes or does not like (Song 59).
When Mordecai discovers an assassination plot against the king, he tells Esther
about it. She approaches the king and tells him about the conspiracy in the name
of Mordecai (Est. 2.22). This small detail is significant because she gives credit to
her cousin, showing her loyalty, humility, and honesty. This action in turn leads to
a positive result as the king views Esther even more favorably. As Song writes,
Esther is becoming perceptive of the inner workings of politics and a court insider
(Song 60). Esther s reluctance to agree to Mordecai s request about asking the king
to save her people is seen as cowardly by critics. What these critics fail to realize is
that Esther has a lot at stake during this time, such as her identity
Examples Of Hunger In Night By Elie Wiesel
Hunger made Elie and his father only closer, but everyone has to eat. The quote is
after Elie and his father ran more than 20 kilometers from Auschwitz to an
abandoned village. Being hungry, thirsty, and especially exhausted would be the
only things a person would think if they had done the march while hungry and
thirsty. But Elie comes said that quote to prove the strength of the bond between him
and his father. Another time in which the prisoners marched was running to
Gleiwitz. They stayed there for three days with no food or water, the prisoners were
moved into roofless cattle cars, almost 100 people in a car. The prisoners were
handed the usual ration before getting on the train and ate snow in order to quench
their thirst. Many of the prisoners are all in a condition not fit enough to make a
march, but there was something pushing those people to keep on surviving. Elie
had witnessed another father and son in the group, however they did not have a
bond like his. Starvation drives people to their limits sometimes and cannot handle
themselves. Meir was beating up his own father for some crumbs of bread,
meanwhile the father is pleading with his son to not kill him, Meir, my little Meir!
Don t you recognize me... you re killing your father... I have bread... for you too...
for you too... (Wiesel 101). Then, he searched his father s body just for the crumbs,
however other prisoners jumped on top of Meir, looking for the same miniscule
crumbs. For Elie, he dreamed about soup and
Short Story The Thing In The Forest
In the short story The Thing in the Forest by A.S Byatt, the author introduces the
thing as dark, ominous and has a very putrid smell that is almost like a representation
of death. The thing in the forest lurks and wanders around the forest next to a house
filled with children that have been sent there because they have been evacuated from
their town. I believe that the thingrepresents or would symbolize many things, and
also considering the time frame the story was written in pre world war era I would
say that the story probably represent the deathor the decay of the men that fought in
the war. Also I believe that the thing symbolizes something literal like an injured
soldierthat tried to get the attention of the girls that wandered the forest. Lastly, In
parts of the story I gives you some indication of the thing and it makes the thing
sound like it might be any army closing in on a country or city cause the thing came
in waves . So the thing might be a wave of scary putrid smelling soldiers that sound
and looks like death.
So, I would believe that the thing in the forest has many interpretations on the
symbolic point of view. First, I believe that the Thing that lurks in the forest just
simply represents the sight and smell of the dying soldiers of the war. I have reason
to believe that it might symbolize dead soldiers because in the story Penny first
heard the thing that was in the forest and list what she hears and sees and even
smells. She says she

Over the past few years the street artist known as Bansky has made a reputation of
political activism, by using his unique form of graffiti to not only convey the
serious issues of our time, but as well as ones of the future. All of his works
display clever use of colors and stencils to showcase a form of dark humor that not
only makes his works that more memorable, but meaningful as well. One of his most
famous works CrayolaShooter displays a masterful use of color, perspective, and
detail to express his message of how we can fight the limits set by society with our
own creativity.
Crayola Shooter was created against a fading gray cement parking lot wall. To the

Looking back at the whole picture the first thing the captures anybody s eye (by no
accident) is the look of dissatisfaction on his face, and how in relation to the gun
that he s aiming at something. Tracing the barrel of the gun with your eyes you can
tell it s the no parking sign he s aiming at. The fact that it s a real no parking sign
only. This is almost feels coincidental, and contributes to the idea that he may just
have been cut and pasted from somewhere else. This idea is forgotten when you
remember that the guns loaded by crayons. Meaning that he is aiming at the sign,

What really makes this piece significant is its attention to detail, and also its lack of
detail. All the bright and simple kid drawings of flowers that convey our
innocence and ignorance are just simple. Their simplicity relates back to colors of
a simpler time when we didn t know anything, like we still do in a way now. In the
middle of it all is the boy who represent the truth of what really is, his picture

drastic difference from the straight lines that make the flowers. Even the shading

Jupiter s 3 Year Research Paper
Have you ever considered the falsehood of some of the information that you ve
been fed? Just think about it. It seems that every discovery is made by a curious
European scientist . For example, Galileo Galilei is considered to have discovered
Jupiter s four moons in 1610, and the moons have even been named Galilean Moons
, but Africans, the Dogon people to be exact, actually discovered Jupiters four moons
over 60,000 years ago. This is just one of many example of many of African
discoveries that they were not credited for along with further findings in astronomy,
weapons, metallurgy, and tools, and mathematics. For starters, astronomy has been
dated back to as early as 3200 BC in Mali, West Africa, which, by the way, is the
earliest time dated for the field. The Dogon people of Mali were able to chart the
movement of the sun, recognize constellations, and chart the cycle of the moon. While
the Mayans created the first calendar in 3114 BC, Africans created the calendar that
we currently use today. Mayans used a two calendar system that could not predict
days more than 52 days ahead, and it divided a 365 day calendar into 18 twenty day
months. The Africans, however, created the African Stonehenge, a calendar that
could predict as far as one would like, that consists of 365... Show more content on

70,000+ years ago, Africans developed the systems of adding and subtracting as

fractions. Egyptians used geometric formulas to calculate the volume and area of
items so that they could construct different structures. They also calculated distances
and angles along with solving algebraic based on minimum resources, like the Nile

pi was estimated to be about 3.16. The same mathematics that we use today was

Rape As A Weapon Of War
Being a part of a global community comes with many responsibilities and duties.
People of the global community have to be aware of the dangers that are present in
the lives of many people all over the globe. Human Rights issues are quite serious
and violations of these rights should not be taken lightly. In exploration of a global
human rights issue, the discovery of rape as a tool in war was a gross violation of
human rights as well as overwhelmingly a gender issue. Rape used as a tool of war
has devastated and destroyed people, communities, families, and traditions. When
discussing rape as weapon of war, there are two main modern day conflicts that can
not be overlooked. Rape as a weapon of war is brought into light by the wars of
Congo and Bosnia. These two conflicts brought the eyes of the world onto the
global issue of rape in war and more specifically how it is used as a tool of ethnocide
and genocide. The recent conflict in the Congo has been rooted in the 1994 Rwandan
Genocideand related violence in Burundi which saw hundreds of thousands of Hutus
flee both countries into eastern ZaГЇre. (First and Second) In the Rwandan genocide,
Hutu power groups (called the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi) led mass
killings of Tutsis and pro peace Hutus, murdering 800,000 people in approximately
100 days. (Congo) In response, the Tutsi led Rwandan Patriotic Front, or RPF,
overthrew the Rwandan Hutu government.

Frederick Jackson Turner Significance Of The Frontier
Thesis
Frederick Jackson Turner s The Significance of the Frontier is, in his eyes, an
accurate depiction of America s development since the Colonial Period. However,
Turner s Frontier Thesis fails to discuss the involvement of two very specific groups
of people, groups that certainly had too much of an effect on the progression of the
country for him to safely leave out. Native Americans have a pivotal role in America
s history, yet Turner s mentions of them in his thesis are extremely limited. For this
reason, Frederick Jackson Turners The Significance of the Frontier is not an accurate
depiction of the history of the United States. Unlike the image that Turner represents
in his Frontier Thesis, Native Americans played a large role in the formation of
America s history. Turner continuously undermines their presence, referring to them
mostly in passing and never giving their race much credit. When discussing the
presence of different animals and people on the frontier, he ranks them only one step
above animals, saying watch the procession of civilization marching single file the
buffalo following the trail to the salt springs, the Indian, the fur trader and hunter, the
cattle raiser, the pioneer farmer and the frontier has passed by. In saying this, Turner
is conveying the imagery that Indians are altogether their own species, not quite
animals but neither human enough to be included in what he would consider the
presence of man. Murphy s book Great Lakes
Summary Of The Thing In The Forest By A. S. Byatt
Catastrophic events such as war tear down nations, cities and families in an
unimaginable fashion while also causing sorrow, suffering and misery throughout its
course. In A.S. Byatt s short story, The Thing in the Forest, we can get a feeling of
the crisis people were going through in England during WorldWar2. The story begins
with two little girls being evacuated to a safe and distant city during the Blitz in
England. The two little girl s have no clue to where they are being sent and know
nothing about each other. One of the girl s name is Penny, who is described as tall,
thin and dark and appears to be the older one and the second girl Primrose, is
depicted as plump, blond and curly. The girls later become friends and start
discussing where they are being taken to and whether if it s a holiday or a
punishment as depicted in the story, Both had the idea that these were all perhaps
not very good children, possibly being sent away for that reason. They were pleased
to be able to define each other as nice . They would stick together they agreed (Byatt

They both have gone their separate ways where Penny has become a

Despite their differences, they later end up at the house again where once they
were evacuees, The two women met in this room on an autumn day in 1984. They
had come with a group, walking in crocodile behind the guide. They prowled
around the room, each alone with herself, in opposite directions, each without
acknowledging the other s presence (Byatt 358).Here, Byatt presents the imagery
on how the two women appeared at the same house after all these long years.
Additionally, at the house they both wonder what had happened to the little girl and
whether if she was devoured by the beast or was she even real at all and if they had

Displacement In The Happiest Refuge
Displacement; the action of moving something from it place or position. To me,
displacement is the unfair treatment of a person who has had the disadvantage of
having to flee their own home, lost their sense of self, their belongings, their culture,
or even people they know and love, for the sake of either their own safety, or the
safety of those around them.
The idea of displacement in The Happiest Refugee is demonstrated and explored

My Passion For Beauty
Since a young age, my life has been centered on artistic expression and a fascination
for beauty. At the age of 9, I told my scientist mother and mathematician father that I
wanted to be a ballerina. My parents were always big supporters of the arts, and
encouraged me to try many creative outlets. They had no notion that my weekly ballet
and tap classes would turn into a career to prosper. From that moment on, my life
revolved around ballet. I loved every minute of the self expression and precession
that ballet gave me that all of the sacrifices felt worthwhile. From 12 years old and
on, I spent my days training for 8 to 10 hours, filling any free time with schoolwork
through my online school, The Keystone School. I was constantly surrounded by
musicians, costume designers, set designers, and other performing artists that were
also forgoing a normal life to honor their craft. I spent almost every summer of my
high schoolyears in New York City attending classed during the day at Lincoln Center
with The School of American Ballet and The BolshoiBallet Summer Intensive, while
spending my evenings in awe of the professional dancers performing at The Met.
For four years, I competed as a finalist at Youth America Grand Prix, having
opportunity to compete with the other top ballet dancers from all over the world.
Although I m forever grateful for the opportunities ballet brought me, like many
dancers, I eventually became burned out by being overworked in a career I had little
Importance Of Self Esteem
You or Society? It s not what you are that is holding you back. It s what you think
you are not . Before self esteem was believed to be a necessity to one s happiness,
the concept seemingly held little to no value to practically anyone. In the past,
society didn t have the time or the want to focus on something as miniscule as self
esteem while, there was much more to worry about such as appearances. Today
however, self esteem is a key aspect to being truly contempt and successful with the
life we have all been given, aiding in the advancement of not only our individual
lives but, what we could do to help further society as a whole. To begin with, the
origin of self esteem it s self has been a huge topic of discussion throughout nations.
Dating all the way back to the 1960s, a book by the name of The Optimistic Child
Professor by Martin Seligman mentions ways in which self esteem has a direct
correlation to feeling good . Martin Seligman held the belief that exercises that
forcefully try to increase your self esteem through another will only result in those
people drawing closer to depression. Then came the 1980s and this was when a man
by the name of John Vasconcellos convinced people to believe that low self esteem
was directly provoking crimes and other offenses such as teenage pregnancy, drug
abuse, and underachievement in terms of education. In the 1990s, Roy Baumeister
believed that curing low self esteem issues was a completely incorrect way to deal

Height: 133cm 152cm The foot to height ratio in fraction style is: Allie: 21 133
Mom: 24 152 So the ratio for Allie is 21 : 133 By dividing both values by 7 we get
21/7 : 133/7 = 3 : 19 And the ratio for Mom is 24 : 152 By dividing both values by 8
we get 24/8 : 152/8 = 3 : 19 The simplified foot to height ratios are now: Allie: 3 19

Gender Wage Gap And Gender Inequality Essay
The Article Lily Ledbetter wasn t lazy; she and all women just want equal pay by
Lanier Isom is about the gender wage gap. The gender wage gap is the difference
between male and female earnings. Isom basically states in this article that the wage
gap exists because of gender, however many experts state that the wage gap simple
does exists do to a factor such as gender, but of multiple factors. These factors being
that the statistics presented in favor of a Wage gap are incorrect and manipulated
to seem correct. That the so called wage gap may be in fact do to the choice of job
generally selected by women or, the failure to present evidence that completely
contradicts the false statements made by the author. One of the most eye catching
things that Isom brings up is that for every dollar a man earns a women earns
seventy seven cents. This statement is false, according to the Federal Reserve Bank
of St. Louis these numbers are the median raw data about the percentages earned
by both gender (Kolesnika, Natalia A). When these number have been processed it
is found that the actual disparity is closer to four to five percent (Kolesnika,
Natalia A). According to Geneviene Wood when you take men and women in
similar jobs with similar experience, education and years working, the wage gap all
but disappears (Wood). Also according to the 2008 Census data women who are in
their 20 s and live in metropolitan areas earn eight percent more than their male
counterparts (Wood). This

The majority party is not able to be as powerful with their choices and ideology as
they want. This allows for all parties and hopefully all of the population a rather
equal representation in the government. It works as a check and balance to the
House of Representatives who has overruled the use of the filibuster. The reason
being that a bill passed by the House must also go through the Senate. The filibuster
is a tool not to just be thrown around lightly by the minority party ,however, because
at some point on down the line they will be the majority party and it could come
back to hurt them. A lot of the time an actual filibuster does not have to be used by
the minority however. The threat of the filibuster is sometimes enough to get the job
done. Although there have being propositions to change the filibuster rules in order
to make them a burden on the filibustering speaker in the long run when the ruling
party changes to minority it can be troublesome for them. Few years back Senator
Reid from Nevada wanted to make changes to the filibustering tactics this tactic as it
applies to executive nominees but, because next time Republicans are in charge there

Analysis Of The Scarlet Ibis
I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two
vines, life and death . The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it
was written by the author, James Hurst. The story is about a young boy (that goes by
Brother in this story) who receives a younger brother by the name of William
Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger brother.
It is believed that the young boyhad a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known
as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is
significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to
his condition, the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that
the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided
to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make
Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story,
Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s
death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by
the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death.
Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is
one of the most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their
own opinion about what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant
things within the story that would clue to the fact that something else was
responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are
responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that
the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be
found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that
points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For
example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that
Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know
that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of
having a crippled brother. This shows

Body Painting In Australia

the important part of the daily and spiritual lives, often showcasing their inner

body paint was often applied for weddings, preparations for war, death or funerals,
showcasing of position and rank, and rituals of adulthood. In addition to temporary

Motor Vehicles In The 1920 s
The automobile dates back to the later part of the 19th century when Henry Ford
made the first car for the common man. The middle class could go wherever they
wanted to go, whenever they wanted to go at a reasonable cost (Automobiles). An
era of speed and travel, the demand for transportation boomed. An affordable and
faster way to get around, owning an automobilebecame a reality for most citizens
living in the middle class. The Big Three automobile producers of the time were
General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford. The automobile allowed new production
methods, charting new territory in mass, and creating and supplying burgeoning
domestic and international markets (Coopey). Motor vehicles in the 1920 s had a
positive effect on the world in the 20th century as it does in the current day.
Automobiles brought much satisfaction to the world in the early 1900 s. The United

owning motor vehicles, by 1929, all states had a tax on gas ranging from two to

Essay) Harriet Tubman was born Araminta Ross in 1822 in Dorchester, Maryland.
She was born a slave and would be, until she ran away in 1849. After she ran away
she did many great deeds, but how do you define greatness. Based off the length of

Tubmanhad many great achievements throughout her life. She was a spy, a nurse, and
a caregiver. However her greatest achievement was working in the Underground

One of the many achievements of Harriet Tubman is her work as a spy during the
Civil War. There she headed up a team of eight black spies to operate behind the lines
and provide intelligence for a Union raid of free slaves...I kept on singing until we
brought all aboard. We got 800 people that day, and we tore up the railroad and fired

that only lasted one day. Compared to her other achievements, that isn t a long
time. However, in one day they were able to save around 800 people. Her job in the
raid was to sing to the fleeing slaves in order to calm them down. The risk level for
this act is a seven out of ten because it s dangerous to cross enemy lines, but all she
did was sing. However, the risk level for this feat is about the same
Prisoners In Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
In Plato s Allegory of the Cave, Plato describes a cave where prisoners are chained
by their legs and necks. Since their motions are restricted, they can only see what is
directly in front of them. By deciphering the images that are reflected on the wall in
front of them; they can only imagine the outside world and create their own reality.
A prisoner is released to the outside world and realizes that the items that he and the
other prisoners had deciphered in the cave were only illusions. Once outside the cave,
the prisonersees the beautiful world and is not going to want to return to the cave.
Platocompares the cave dwellers to men lacking education and are not fit to preside
over the city. They are without a sense of purpose or duty.

commonly known, had been born November 14, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas, as
the Nasa History website states, Others, however, were actually born into flying.
Edward White fell into this category. For Ed White, flying was not merely a hobby,
fascination or job. Flying was his . His father was a West Point graduate who
served in the United States Air Force. Ed White s father became known as a
pioneer in aeronautics, beginning his military career by flying U.S. Army balloons.
By the time he retired from the Air Force, White s father had earned the rank of
major general. White was an overachiever and had high goals. He found a quote one
day then, consequently decided to become an astronaut, stating, The article was
written with tongue in cheek, but something told me: this is it this is the type of
thing you re cut out for. From then on everything I did seemed to be preparing me
for spaceflight. Ed White also
Compare And Contrast The Conflict Between North And
South...
The War Between The Two Korea s
The Korean war, began in June of 1950, and ended with a truce in July of 1953.
It was started because of the US and Russia not being able to come to an agreement.
And it ended with threats of an atomic bombing. However the bigger issues that
created
this conflict still affect us to this day.
There are many issues, creating conflict between North and South Korea.
Most of these problems stem from the fact that North Korea is a communist nation and
South Korea is a democratic nation. Also the fact that North Korea was run by a
dictator
and still is, is another major factor. The 38th parallel has been transformed into the
demilitarized zone. A zone that has made it difficult to lower tensions because of all
the
armed guards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand South Korea saw the war as a bad event that could end the world.
Successful programs in stopping the Korean war were all of the peace treaties
and the final threat of bombing North Korea, to end it all. There was one unsuccessful
programs in stopping the Korean war. That one unsuccessful attempt in stopping the
Korean war was when South Korea tried fighting back alone. That was the one
unsuccessful attempts at stopping the war.
The Korean war still affects us today, even though it ended in 1953. The Koreas
still has a wall that has armed guards posted all over it. With all the armed guards
tensions are kinda high a war could break out at any moment. There is still talk of war,
especially since North Korea has developed nuclear weapons. War is very close at
hand with North Korea having such dangerous weapons.
I feel like this a problem because North Korea could start a war just like the one
before but involving more than 5 countries. Some ideas that could help stop this
is we could have everyone that has nuclear weapons to dismantle them and get rid of
them properly. Now you might say that it won t work and it might not. What if there
Essay On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
It is a common trope to say that an addict becomes a different person when he
consumes his particular poison. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the
story of an addict whose inebriated self just happens to have a different name. It
does not matter what the solution he drinks for his transformation is supposed to
represent, whether alcohol, opium, heroin, or some other substance he checks off
every box for addictive and self destructive behavior. There can be no clearer
interpretation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde than that it is a polemic against the
prevalent usage of drugs and alcohol in England at the time of its writing. The
National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence cites fourteen primary
indicators of alcohol or drug addiction Dr. Jekyll displays almost all, as I will show.
The first four are specially signs of alcoholism, the rest are of substance abuse in
general: Recurrent arguments or fights with family members or friends ... Temporary
blackouts or memory loss ... Continuing use of alcohol to relax, to cheer up, to sleep,
to deal with problems, or to feel normal ... Headache, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, or
other unpleasant symptoms when one stops drinking ... Loss of Control: Drinking or
drugging more than a person wants to, for longer than they intended, or despite
telling themselves that they wouldn t do it this time ... Neglecting Other Activities:
Spending less time on activities that used to be important ... Risk Taking: More likely
to take serious

The Chinese Culture
1.0Introduction
The term culture has many meanings depending on the context in which it is
placed. Culture could mean the way that people have been used to a set system of
activities until it becomes a part of their inheritable knowledge, which they can pass
to the next generations. Customs and beliefs can also form the culture of people
who live in a common geographical location or the era in which they are living. In
the corporate world, for example, in an organization, the term culture can refer to as
the team spirit of the employees of that organization. It can also be defined as the set
objectives that the staff of an organization is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There are many carvings in the Chinese museums, which were done centuries ago.
The carvings showed things like; how the Chinese are people who nurture creativity,
and this has explained the reason for their creativity even in this technological world.
Another art invented by the Chinese was the martial arts. The Chinese are well
known for practicing Kung Fu, and it has become a well known art in the
entertainment industry. Kung Fu was invented by copying the attacking techniques
of animals, and the Chinese has used it as an act of self defense to the extent that
there are Kung Fu classes that are taught for a fee.
Up until today, the Chinese still embrace their culture, and little westernization has
penetrated into the Chinese culture.
4.0Religion
In China, there have been strict laws governing religion, and some of the religions
have been declared illegal. Some of the commonly practiced religions are
Catholicism, Protestantism, Islam, and Buddhism. Apart from the ones mentioned,
there are also traditional religions such as Confucianism. Despite the religious
restrictions, the Chinese are believers in supernatural beings and they conserve their
traditional religion. At various times of the year, the Chinese go for pilgrimages to
honor their deities and their children are taught how to worship from when they are
in kindergarten.
5.0Diet
The Chinese are normally very keen and strict
Seventh Man Research Paper
Seventh Man Essay Has there ever been a time in your life when something
traumatic had happened and and finding closure was hard? This is what exactly
happened to the Seventh Man. The Seventh Man was only 10 years old when a
typhoon hit his area in the Province of S. During the eye of the typhoon, the calm
area in the middle of the storm, the Seventh man went out to the beach with his
friend only is only known as K. The Seventh Man and K. were good friends in
school. When the duo went down to the beach, after a some time the Seventh Man
noticed something was in the mist and realized there was a second wave about to
hit and his friend K. didn t. The Seventh Man was not able to save his friend and

He often had nightmare of his friend K being swept away. What happened to the
Seventh man was traumatic. What the Seventh Man went through what is called
survivors guilt. Survivor s guilt is a guilt that is a common response following loss
or traumatic experiences with significant victimization. This guilt may come when
someone, dear to somebody dies and a person feels guilty for the death of that
person even if they have not caused the death. We often associate this type of guilt
with the battlefield. Soldiers that come home may have this guilt when during a
battle some of their buddies died, and they feel like they could ve prevented the
deaths of their fellow soldiers. But survivor s guilt is not just associated with the
battle field. Just like in the Seventh Man s story. The Seventh Man should forgive
himself for the death of K.
United States Marine Corps Campaign Advertisement Essay
The campaign advertisement ran by the United States Marine Corps uses versatile
imagery and a connotative language approach to strategically attract minority
women. The print ad shows a female Marine in a defensive martial arts pose on
looked by a crowd of men in what seems to be a combat training session implying
she is the leader. The tag line: There are no female Marines. Only Marines suggests
that women who join the Marines will have equal standing with men in their
organization. The ad itself appears to be in a military instructional setting. The viewer
s eye is immediately drawn to the central focus of the document; a strong, physically
fit African American woman in a combat stance, facilitating the techniques of martial
arts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The objective appeal is that the advertisers would like you to enlist in the Marine
Corps.
To a generation of women who have become used to the glass ceiling , or have
become complacent with making seventy five cent on the dollar as compared to
their male counterparts, the simple visual of the strong empowered female who
has a group of men at her command can be very compelling. Similarly, in our
current recession, formatting of the word into a Want ad is a very strong pull. This
appears to be a viable solution for unemployed women, minorities, and recent high
school graduates seeking employment in a market that is not very receptive right
now. This is not a job, it a career, a lifestyle, this woman is in command and you can
be too. The strategies employed in this ad and the emotions this advertisement
speaks volumes about the company that produced it. The military has always been
something of a man s world , where men were on the front lines, and running the
show, and if a female were present she would be seen in a nurses uniform. This ad is
a public statement by the Marines into equalization of the sexes, and a huge leap into
the present societal mindset that women are in fact, able to do anything men are. It is
a modernization of an established military branch. This ad shows that the US Marine
Corps recognizes their traditional enlistment strategies did not appeal to women.
More importantly, demonstrating willingness to revise their
Analysis Of The Movie Across Five Aprils
The Civil War devastated families all across the United States. Hundreds of
thousands of people died and for many years after, the nation was still divided and
trying to figure out how to move forward. Irene Hunt learned of stories of the Civil
War from her grandfather who served in the Civil War. Hunt s book, Across Five
Aprils, relates to her childhood because this novel is nothing but a story of the war
from one family. This book hit home hard and revealed concepts of realism by
examining the effects the war had on everyday life.
Irene Hunt didn t use Naturalism in Across Five Aprils. Instead she used realism.
She took real events that happened and focused on the effect that it had on
everyday life. In the late summer shortly after Tom and Eb left, there was news of
another defeat for the North; it was closer to home this timeat Wilson s Creek in
Missouri. There were boys from Illinois at Wilson s Creek, and the war for many
people in Jasper County had suddenly become a sorrowful reality. It was at Wilson s
Creek that the Union commander, Nathaniel Lyon, was killed; and it was here,
people said, that hundreds of boys died because of General FrГ©mont s refusal to
send reinforcements to Lyon. (45) Hunt connected the actual event of the battle of
Gettysburg. Hunt also used newspaper articles to let her characters know how the
war was going and who was winning at certain times. Many people during the Civil
War used newspapers to see how and what the war was like. There were
FGCU Analysis
Guiding Principles The principles that guide a university are extremely crucial in
regards to what students and faculty can expect from the university they attend or are
employed by, as well as how the university can outline its goals and attitudes towards
those goals. For that reason, it is essential for a universityand its directors to invest
heavily in the guiding principles that they stand for. Everything the university does
should strive to live up to such principles, and failure to do so is a failure to all the
stakeholders within the university. The Florida Gulf Coast University, or FGCU, has
established several guiding principles that are behind every action and direction that
the university takes. One principle in particular is... Show more content on

In particular, it is failing to promote and provide distance and time free learning.
Although FGCU offers a wealth of online courses for students to take from the
comfort of their own home, or anywhere they choose really, the quality of such
courses are not up to par with the education gained in the classroom. According to
Douglas Rushkoff, Online learning needs to cater to human users. A real instructor
should not simply dump data on a person, as in a scripted video, but engage with
students, consider their responses and offer individualized challenges (3).
Unfortunately, the state of online courses at FGCU falls under this criteria of simply
dumping information on students, and online courses offer very little in the way of
individualized challenges. While the quality of education in an FGCU classroom is
unprecedented, the quality of education in an FGCU online classroom leaves much
to be desired. Instead of a virtual classroom environment, an online FCGU course
simply puts students through rigid, non streamlined hoops that do little to insight
creativity or academic advancement. And for this reason, FGCU is falling short of its
information technology guiding

Rembrandt Essay

  • 1. Rembrandt Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of Rembrandt can be a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. The difficulty lies not only in the vastness and complexity of Rembrandt's life and work but also in the need to encapsulate his artistic genius within the confines of an essay. The first hurdle is the extensive research required to understand the multifaceted aspects of Rembrandt's life, his artistic evolution, and the historical context in which he lived. Delving into art history, biography, and critical analyses of his paintings becomes imperative to grasp the nuances of his contributions to the art world. Furthermore, expressing one's insights about Rembrandt's artistry demands a nuanced understanding of various artistic techniques, styles, and thematic elements. Describing the interplay of light and shadow, the emotive qualities in his portraits, and the profound symbolism in his biblical scenes requires a keen eye and an adept command of art vocabulary. Organizing these thoughts into a coherent and compelling essay structure poses another challenge. Balancing historical context, artistic analysis, and personal interpretation requires finesse to ensure a seamless flow of ideas. Crafting a thesis that encapsulates the essence of Rembrandt's impact on art and culture adds an additional layer of complexity. Moreover, the risk of oversimplification or overcomplication looms large, as it's essential to strike the right balance between accessibility for a general audience and depth for those with a more profound interest in art history. In conclusion, writing an essay on Rembrandt demands a blend of research, analytical skills, and a profound appreciation for art. However, the satisfaction of unraveling the layers of Rembrandt's genius and sharing those insights with readers can make the endeavor exceptionally fulfilling. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other writing challenges, professional services like HelpWriting.net can provide the necessary support. I understand that the main appeal to my product is that it is a convenience product, but it is not a necessity and most likely will to be offered at a lower price than existing lawn mowers on the market. Because of this, some of the characteristics of my target market is they are economically well off, live in suburban or urban areas and have limited. This segment is willing to pay extra for the convenience of saving time due to their spending power. This target market is attractive because they fulfill the requirements for effective segmentation. Their spending power is measurable, their market is accessible and can be served, there s a substantial amount of money in this segment, affluent people are differentiable as marketingto the wealthy is much different than typical advertising, and the information on them is actionable, allowing us to effectively make a marketing plan. Regardless of which market segment is chosen, both satisfy the five criteria needed for effective segmentation which would allow our company to take the next step and develop a great plan to market the

Finally, in regards to alternative analysis the purpose of a no project alternative is to allow decision makers to compare the impacts of approving the proposed project with the impacts of not approving the proposed project (CEQA GUIDELINES, 15126.6, subd. In this court case if the project is the revision of an existing land use or regulatory plan, policy or ongoing operation, the no project alternative will be the continuation of the existing plan, policy or operation into the future (CEQA Guidelines, 15126.6, subd. (e)(3)(A).) The case in addition supports the

  • 6. Essay on Free Will Free Will A definition of free will, as we have seen, can be misunderstood and easily distorted. For the purpose of this essay free will, will be defined as the ability to chose, express ones feelings, emotions, or actions unconditionally. From the first time I understood the meaning of what free will was, I believed in it 100%. I had the right and ability to choose what ever I liked. Not only did I believe that I had free will but if I ever heard otherwise I felt that the other person did not have a clear understanding of what free will was, and as a result I could demonstrate a fairly strong persuasive argument opposing anything but the existence of free will. I would illustrate a situation in which there seemed to be no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I grew up in a household where I was taught that I was and will always be free. I also never had any religious affiliation within my first 8 years of schooling, which might have influenced me to think differently. The illustration of a gun to ones head is also rooted within the environment of others as well as my own. We can assume that the majority of people would want to live in that situation and therefore follow what is being asked of them. Now is that there free will? I don t think so. The fact that they choose to live is based on their enjoyment of life and there lessons that they have been taught by their upbringing, this is their environment. The same would be true on an extreme end. Somebody may make the decision to not obey and sacrifice his or her life because of extreme misery and discontent. Furthermore, the reason for the unhappiness may be a result of heredity. The victim s mother could have used drugs, or something similar that which had an effect on her child. God plays an interesting role in this explanation of free will. Presently, after having about 7 years of religious education I feel like I am educated enough to speak of God. I believe that people can be affected by God within there decision making and often have God make the choice for them. For example, the choice to remain celibate until marriage, that is God s wishes
  • 7. The Impact Of Advertising Campaigns In Advertising In this paper, I will analyze the ethical challenge that represents misleading people s choices through manipulative advertisements campaigns. I will focus on one specific case, the Nivea Slim Complex cream, which was charged by the Federal Trade Commission of the United States with a fine of $900,000. The claimed of Nivea s Marketers was that women would lose weight only by using the cream. This deceptive claim was taken and overseen by the Trade Commission ending with legal consequences against Nivea. Nivea s misleading advertisement campaign represents an ethical challenge because it is clearly lying to consumers in order to increase their sales. On the other hand, Nivea is a business, and as such, it needs to have revenues. The events regarding this case are presented as follow: The advertsiment was aired across the U.S. I could not find a specific date of its released. The Advertisement ...shows a woman applying the cream, before discovering that she can fit into an old pair of jeans. (Abraham, par. 6). On June 29, 2011, the Federal Trade Commissionreleased a publication under the Customer Protection Tag regarding Nivea s deceptive campaign. • 8. Cultural Strain Theory Paper Introduction The Cultural Strain Theory states that persons of different cultures have a harder time developing relationships, than persons of the same culture. There are many different theories that reveal the terms and aspects that are needed to develop a relationship. Reducing one s uncertainty towards the other, having low levels of anxiety, and being able to relate to the relationship partner are all vital to developing a relationship. There are three theories that address these three relationship components. Uncertainty Reduction Theory, Anxiety Management Theory, and the Relational Theory are the theories that I used to develop the Cultural Strain Theory. Uncertainty Reduction Theory The Uncertainty Reduction Theory states that relationship development is a process of reducing uncertainty about one another. When developing relationships, people desire to reduce the uncertainty about the other person by attaining information about them (Bradac, 1982). Reducing the amounts of uncertainty is an important component in a relationship. There are three main reasons why people feel uncertain: anticipation of future interaction, incentive value, and deviance. Anticipation of future interaction deals with the way one feels about someone else when they know they will see them in the future. If someone is guaranteed to see a ... • 10. Machiavelli And The Apology Of The Prince Machiavelli writes The Prince centuries after Plato documents Socrates in Crito and The Apology. Despite the different time periods, both Machiavelli and Socrates experience times of turmoil where the concept of democracy was questioned. However, the different time periods cause the views and purposes of Machiavelli s writing to largely differ from Socrates. Machiavelli writes in a time of turmoil where Italy was a bunch of small, fragmented states and when the Medici s struggled to regain power after being expelled. This causes his views to be more cynical and pessimistic in comparison to Socrates. If Socrates were to read The Prince , he would disagree with Machiavelli s beliefs and deem his portrayal of a prince as immoral. Their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates contradicting views are presented when he claims, Not from money does virtue come, but from virtue comes money and all of the other good things for human beings both privately and publicly (Apology, 30b). Socrates disputes that fortuna comes from virtue and presents a cause and effect relationship, contrary to the interconnected relationship as presented by Machiavelli. A prince should use philosophical thinking to question and explore many ideas in order to amass success. Just having money and luck, on the other hand, will not lead to more success because the prince is unable to think about how he can execute his rulings. Through his views, he connotes how the ruler cannot start his reign with both fortuna and virtue. This contradicts with Machiavelli s prince because Socrates disputes the lack of emphasis on fortune. However, it is plausible to argue that fortuna does not lead to success as seen in Socrates legacy. Socrates legacy is evidence that virtue is the more valuable of the two and the unnecessity of fortuna. Even if Socrates was a poor man, who has found his own philosophy in life, he is a heavily respected figure today. He turned down Crito s fortune and power, and died as a martyr , leading to an increased remembrance of his philosophy. His legacy has lasted thousands of years without fortuna. Although Socrates was not a ruler, he is one of the fathers of democracy, so he is a figure that is

Kansas, situated on the American Great Plains, became the 34th state on January 29, 1861. Its path to statehood was long and bloody: After the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 opened the two territories to settlement and allowed the new settlers to determine whether the states would be admitted to the union as free or slave, North and South competed to send the most settlers into the region. This quickly led to violence, and the territory became known as Bleeding Kansas. Kansas has long been known as part of America s agricultural heartland, and is home the major U.S. military installation Fort Leavenworth. Between 1541 and 1739 explorers from Spain and France came to Kansas for gold. Historians have reported that Native Americans were living in Kansas as early as 12,000 B.C. The United States concluded a deal when it signed an agreement to purchase the entire Louisiana Territory from France. Because Becknell found a good mode of transportation and a passable wagon route, he is credited as the Father of the Santa Fe Trail. Martin Luther, A Christian Theologian And Augustinian Monk Gustavo Huangal October 8, 2014 Bible 2nd Assessment Martin Luther Martin Luther, a Christian theologian and Augustinian monk has taught and inspired the Protestant Reformation. His translation of the Bible has helped to develop the correct version of the German language. Martin Luther was a great man. Martin Luther was born on the 10th of November, 1483 in Eisleben, Germany. Hans and Margaretha Luder were his parents. In 1501, he had been enrolled in the University of Erfurt at the age of seventeen. But all of that changed during a harsh thunderstorm where a lightning bolt struck near him on his way back to school. With terror he yelled these words, Help St. Anne! I ll become a monk! Since then, he dropped out of law school and started attending monastery there. He would devote himself only to things like fasts, long hour prayers, and constant confessions. He tried a lot to change this, but the more he tried to do this for God, it always seemed that he became more aware of his sinfulness. Martin Luther eventually ended up being good with God personally when his teacher, Johann von Staupitz, ordered that Luther needed more work to distract him from all his thoughts. So then Luther was ordained to the priesthood. So in the year of 1508, Martin Luther started to teach theology at the University of Wittenberg. The difficult time of study for academic degrees and preparation for the hard lectures drove Martin Luther to study the Scriptures very deep. Luther engaged
  • 13. Alarm Anxiety Of Alarm Fatigue Hospitals are chaotic and can be difficult places to maintain safety if precautions aren t taken. One way that healthcare providers attempt to combat safety issues is by using different alarm systems to alert staff to issues in patient rooms. The many different alarms can be beneficial but can also cause a phenomenon that is referred to as alarmfatigue. Alarm fatigue is defined as a condition of sensory overload for staff members who are exposed to an excessive number of alarms (Blake, 2014). It is a national problem and the number one medical device technology hazard in 2012. The problem of alarm desensitization is multifaceted and could be attributed most heavily to high false alarm rates. Studies have indicated that the presence of false and /or clinically insignificant alarms ranges from 80 90% (Cvach, 2012). The constant alarms make it difficult for nurses to discern the difference between emergent and annoying alerts and can cause many to not respond as urgently as necessary. Background I had a personal experience with the effects of alarm fatigue this semester. I was working with an RN who graduated from JMU in 2010. We had multiple difficult patients whom would ring their call bells or mess with their equipment every chance they got. The nurse seemed annoyed with the alarms and began responding more slowly and silencing alarms. After lunch, I went to check on my patient and saw multiple nurses in her room. A tech told me that her IV had infiltrated and nobody
  • 14. Martin Luther King Brutality Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader throughout the 1950s and 1960s. King supported the belief in non violent protests and peaceful demonstrations. King also believed that nonviolent protest would be the most effective way to fight against a racist and unjust society. King is well known for campaigns to end racial segregation and racial inequality in the United States. In today s world Martin Luther King Jr. is seen as a hero who guided others with his love and compassion for peaceful demonstrations and non violence but during his time people saw him as a villain due to the amount of power King had in bringing about change and those who hated change, did not support King. King s power when he was alive, scared people because they didn t know what to expect next, but after his death the roles turned and the people started to control him. The main question society thinks about today is, why was Martin Luther King Jr. so unpopular during his time? One reason why King was so unpopular during his time was because of his extramarital affairs. People believed because of his compulsive sexual athleticism he wasn t a good leader, but his personal life has nothing to do with his intelligence towards civil rights. Just because he cheated on his wife, it does not mean he isn t capable of being an amazing leader. Another reason People black and white, both believed King was not fit to be a leader was because they believed King put them in harm s way due to the issues he was fighting. Some non violent protests turned out violent which was out of King s control, therefor some believe he caused a lot of disturbances because of this. Some people liked to call King Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while others believed you shouldn t call him Doctor . Parts of Dr. King s doctoral dissertation and other academic papers from his student years appeared to have been plagiarized. A professor from the City University of New York, who wrote a biography on Dr. King, had a change in his opinion on King after finding out the allegations against King. Mr. Garrow said This has altered my judgment of him as a person, though it hasn t shaken my tremendous regard for his courage and dedication to his movement.
  • 15. Schizophrenia In Kurt Vonnegut s Breakfast Of Champions Many would argue that Kurt Vonnegut severed the Billy Pilgrim from within himself as a therapeutic process to save his own sanity. (Broer 95) Billy Pilgrim resembles Vonnegut through his experiences at war, as a prisoner and surviving the bombing of Dresden. Both men also survived a plane crash and have an detachment to their emotions. (Klinkowitz, Vonnegut in Fact, 5) Vonnegut used the creation of his character to cope and treat himself. By making a separate character, he has created a person to project onto and embody his trauma. Although Billy suffers from hallucinations, he does not meet the threshold of being a schizophrenic. It could be further interpreted that Billy Pilgrim suffers from posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). According to the American Psychiatric Association (1994), symptoms of PTSD include re experiencing trauma through memory, hyperarousal, avoidance, and numbing general responsiveness. Billy shows these symptoms throughout the novel: being spastic in time metaphorically indicates Billy s reliving the memories of traumatic events, Billy avoids conversation about the war and his experiences with other characters, and Billy shows no emotion suggesting numbness. • 16. Character Of Queen Esther Queen Esther: A Heroic Analysis of the Biblical Figure Out of all the female characters in the Bible, Esther stands out as one of the most heroic and complex figures. As a comparison, she could easily be equated to the heroic Joseph from the book of Genesis as they both have similar experiences in the royal court. But unlike Joseph, Esthers most heroic trait is not that she can analyze dreams. Rather, her most important feature is that she is a wise strategist, which allows her to save the Jews and her cousin, Mordecai. Yet, Esther does not begin her journey as a cunning tactician. She is molded and shaped by her surroundings and other heroic features. In fact, it is these additional qualities that accumulate and extend to her becoming a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another criticism against Esther is that she is too obedient towards the men in the story, and thus too stupid to think for herself. However, obedience is a virtue observed in heroes and should be valued in Esther. Song offers the example of when Esther [does] not reveal her people or kindred, for Mordecai had charged her not to tell, (Est. 2.10). In Old Testament tradition, a wise person is someone who listens to and obeys their elders. Additionally, by obeying the king s eunuch, Hegai, and [asking] for nothing except what [he advised] she displays prudence (Est. 2.15). Song points out how Esther realizes that Hegai has made an important ally in him as he knows what King Ahasuerus likes or does not like (Song 59). When Mordecai discovers an assassination plot against the king, he tells Esther about it. She approaches the king and tells him about the conspiracy in the name of Mordecai (Est. 2.22). This small detail is significant because she gives credit to her cousin, showing her loyalty, humility, and honesty. This action in turn leads to a positive result as the king views Esther even more favorably. As Song writes, Esther is becoming perceptive of the inner workings of politics and a court insider (Song 60). Esther s reluctance to agree to Mordecai s request about asking the king to save her people is seen as cowardly by critics. What these critics fail to realize is that Esther has a lot at stake during this time, such as her identity

Being hungry, thirsty, and especially exhausted would be the only things a person would think if they had done the march while hungry and thirsty. But Elie comes said that quote to prove the strength of the bond between him and his father. Another time in which the prisoners marched was running to Gleiwitz. They stayed there for three days with no food or water, the prisoners were moved into roofless cattle cars, almost 100 people in a car. The prisoners were handed the usual ration before getting on the train and ate snow in order to quench their thirst. Many of the prisoners are all in a condition not fit enough to make a march, but there was something pushing those people to keep on surviving. Elie had witnessed another father and son in the group, however they did not have a bond like his. Starvation drives people to their limits sometimes and cannot handle themselves. Meir was beating up his own father for some crumbs of bread, meanwhile the father is pleading with his son to not kill him, Meir, my little Meir! Don t you recognize me... you re killing your father... I have bread... for you too... for you too... (Wiesel 101). Then, he searched his father s body just for the crumbs, however other prisoners jumped on top of Meir, looking for the same miniscule crumbs. For Elie, he dreamed about soup and
  • 18. Short Story The Thing In The Forest In the short story The Thing in the Forest by A.S Byatt, the author introduces the thing as dark, ominous and has a very putrid smell that is almost like a representation of death. The thing in the forest lurks and wanders around the forest next to a house filled with children that have been sent there because they have been evacuated from their town. I believe that the thingrepresents or would symbolize many things, and also considering the time frame the story was written in pre world war era I would say that the story probably represent the deathor the decay of the men that fought in the war. Also I believe that the thing symbolizes something literal like an injured soldierthat tried to get the attention of the girls that wandered the forest. Lastly, In parts of the story I gives you some indication of the thing and it makes the thing sound like it might be any army closing in on a country or city cause the thing came in waves . So the thing might be a wave of scary putrid smelling soldiers that sound and looks like death. So, I would believe that the thing in the forest has many interpretations on the symbolic point of view. First, I believe that the Thing that lurks in the forest just simply represents the sight and smell of the dying soldiers of the war. I have reason to believe that it might symbolize dead soldiers because in the story Penny first heard the thing that was in the forest and list what she hears and sees and even smells. She says she

However, as she talks about her love interest and she starts hallucinating the polka dot music and the shot, the reader is let know that she is mentally unstable. It is even argued that the crying Mexican woman was most likely something part of her imagination, as she is the only one that seems to acknowledge her. Furthermore, in order for Stanley to investigate Blanche something must have ticked him off, and something did, the beautiful expensive dresses that she carried in her suitcase. Stanley wanted to see how she got all that money and why did she not share it with him and Stella. However, as previously explained he found a lot more than that. Stanley knew she was struggling with a mental illness; in fact, he was the one that admitted her to the institution, but he was also the one that pushed her to the point of breakage. It seems that every discovery is made by a curious European scientist . For example, Galileo Galilei is considered to have discovered Jupiter s four moons in 1610, and the moons have even been named Galilean Moons , but Africans, the Dogon people to be exact, actually discovered Jupiters four moons over 60,000 years ago. This is just one of many example of many of African discoveries that they were not credited for along with further findings in astronomy, weapons, metallurgy, and tools, and mathematics. For starters, astronomy has been dated back to as early as 3200 BC in Mali, West Africa, which, by the way, is the earliest time dated for the field. The Dogon people of Mali were able to chart the movement of the sun, recognize constellations, and chart the cycle of the moon. While the Mayans created the first calendar in 3114 BC, Africans created the calendar that we currently use today. Mayans used a two calendar system that could not predict days more than 52 days ahead, and it divided a 365 day calendar into 18 twenty day months. Frederick Jackson Turner Significance Of The Frontier Thesis Frederick Jackson Turner s The Significance of the Frontier is, in his eyes, an accurate depiction of America s development since the Colonial Period. However, Turner s Frontier Thesis fails to discuss the involvement of two very specific groups of people, groups that certainly had too much of an effect on the progression of the country for him to safely leave out. Native Americans have a pivotal role in America s history, yet Turner s mentions of them in his thesis are extremely limited. For this reason, Frederick Jackson Turners The Significance of the Frontier is not an accurate depiction of the history of the United States. Unlike the image that Turner represents in his Frontier Thesis, Native Americans played a large role in the formation of America s history. Turner continuously undermines their presence, referring to them mostly in passing and never giving their race much credit. When discussing the presence of different animals and people on the frontier, he ranks them only one step above animals, saying watch the procession of civilization marching single file the buffalo following the trail to the salt springs, the Indian, the fur trader and hunter, the cattle raiser, the pioneer farmer and the frontier has passed by. In saying this, Turner is conveying the imagery that Indians are altogether their own species, not quite animals but neither human enough to be included in what he would consider the presence of man. The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it was written by the author, James Hurst. The story is about a young boy (that goes by Brother in this story) who receives a younger brother by the name of William Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger brother. It is believed that the young boyhad a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to his condition, the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story, Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death. Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is one of the most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their own opinion about what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant things within the story that would clue to the fact that something else was responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. • 44. Essay On Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde It is a common trope to say that an addict becomes a different person when he consumes his particular poison. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is the story of an addict whose inebriated self just happens to have a different name. It does not matter what the solution he drinks for his transformation is supposed to represent, whether alcohol, opium, heroin, or some other substance he checks off every box for addictive and self destructive behavior. There can be no clearer interpretation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde than that it is a polemic against the prevalent usage of drugs and alcohol in England at the time of its writing. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence cites fourteen primary indicators of alcohol or drug addiction Dr. Jekyll displays almost all, as I will show. The first four are specially signs of alcoholism, the rest are of substance abuse in general: Recurrent arguments or fights with family members or friends ... Temporary blackouts or memory loss ... Continuing use of alcohol to relax, to cheer up, to sleep, to deal with problems, or to feel normal ... Headache, anxiety, insomnia, nausea, or other unpleasant symptoms when one stops drinking ... Loss of Control: Drinking or drugging more than a person wants to, for longer than they intended, or despite telling themselves that they wouldn t do it this time ... Neglecting Other Activities: Spending less time on activities that used to be important ... Risk Taking: More likely to take serious

  • 47. United States Marine Corps Campaign Advertisement Essay The campaign advertisement ran by the United States Marine Corps uses versatile imagery and a connotative language approach to strategically attract minority women. The print ad shows a female Marine in a defensive martial arts pose on looked by a crowd of men in what seems to be a combat training session implying she is the leader. The tag line: There are no female Marines. Only Marines suggests that women who join the Marines will have equal standing with men in their organization. The ad itself appears to be in a military instructional setting. The viewer s eye is immediately drawn to the central focus of the document; a strong, physically fit African American woman in a combat stance, facilitating the techniques of martial arts.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The objective appeal is that the advertisers would like you to enlist in the Marine Corps. To a generation of women who have become used to the glass ceiling , or have become complacent with making seventy five cent on the dollar as compared to their male counterparts, the simple visual of the strong empowered female who has a group of men at her command can be very compelling. Similarly, in our current recession, formatting of the word into a Want ad is a very strong pull. This appears to be a viable solution for unemployed women, minorities, and recent high school graduates seeking employment in a market that is not very receptive right now. This is not a job, it a career, a lifestyle, this woman is in command and you can be too. The strategies employed in this ad and the emotions this advertisement speaks volumes about the company that produced it. The military has always been something of a man s world , where men were on the front lines, and running the show, and if a female were present she would be seen in a nurses uniform. This ad is a public statement by the Marines into equalization of the sexes, and a huge leap into the present societal mindset that women are in fact, able to do anything men are. It is a modernization of an established military branch. This ad shows that the US Marine Corps recognizes their traditional enlistment strategies did not appeal to women. More importantly, demonstrating willingness to revise their

Hundreds of thousands of people died and for many years after, the nation was still divided and trying to figure out how to move forward. Irene Hunt learned of stories of the Civil War from her grandfather who served in the Civil War. Hunt s book, Across Five Aprils, relates to her childhood because this novel is nothing but a story of the war from one family. This book hit home hard and revealed concepts of realism by examining the effects the war had on everyday life. Irene Hunt didn t use Naturalism in Across Five Aprils. Instead she used realism. She took real events that happened and focused on the effect that it had on everyday life. In the late summer shortly after Tom and Eb left, there was news of another defeat for the North; it was closer to home this timeat Wilson s Creek in Missouri. There were boys from Illinois at Wilson s Creek, and the war for many people in Jasper County had suddenly become a sorrowful reality. It was at Wilson s Creek that the Union commander, Nathaniel Lyon, was killed; and it was here, people said, that hundreds of boys died because of General FrГ©mont s refusal to send reinforcements to Lyon. FGCU Analysis Guiding Principles The principles that guide a university are extremely crucial in regards to what students and faculty can expect from the university they attend or are employed by, as well as how the university can outline its goals and attitudes towards those goals. For that reason, it is essential for a universityand its directors to invest heavily in the guiding principles that they stand for. Everything the university does should strive to live up to such principles, and failure to do so is a failure to all the stakeholders within the university. The Florida Gulf Coast University, or FGCU, has established several guiding principles that are behind every action and direction that the university takes. One principle in particular is... Although FGCU offers a wealth of online courses for students to take from the comfort of their own home, or anywhere they choose really, the quality of such courses are not up to par with the education gained in the classroom. According to Douglas Rushkoff, Online learning needs to cater to human users. A real instructor should not simply dump data on a person, as in a scripted video, but engage with students, consider their responses and offer individualized challenges (3). Unfortunately, the state of online courses at FGCU falls under this criteria of simply dumping information on students, and online courses offer very little in the way of individualized challenges. While the quality of education in an FGCU classroom is unprecedented, the quality of education in an FGCU online classroom leaves much to be desired. Instead of a virtual classroom environment, an online FCGU course simply puts students through rigid, non streamlined hoops that do little to insight creativity or academic advancement. And for this reason, FGCU is falling short of its information technology guiding
