Religious Tolerance Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of religious tolerance presents a unique set of challenges that
require careful consideration and a nuanced approach. Firstly, it demands a deep understanding
of various religious beliefs, practices, and cultural contexts. This requires extensive research to
avoid oversimplification or misrepresentation of diverse faiths.
Moreover, navigating the delicate balance between advocating for tolerance and respecting
individual religious convictions can be challenging. Striking the right tone is crucial to ensure the
essay does not come across as preachy or dismissive of deeply held beliefs. It's important to
approach the topic with empathy, acknowledging the complexity of religious diversity and the
historical context of interfaith relations.
Crafting a coherent and well-structured argument is another hurdle. The essay should provide a
clear thesis statement, supported by well-reasoned arguments and relevant examples. Juggling
different perspectives while maintaining a coherent narrative can be demanding, requiring a
keen awareness of the potential pitfalls of bias or oversights.
Additionally, the sensitive nature of the topic means that the writer must be mindful of potential
backlash or misinterpretation. Striking a balance between promoting open dialogue and avoiding
controversy is a tightrope walk that necessitates careful consideration of language and tone
throughout the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on religious tolerance demands a high level of research, empathy,
and skillful argumentation. The complexities surrounding this topic require a writer's thoughtful
approach to ensure the essay is informative, respectful, and contributes positively to the
discourse on religious diversity.

America Needs Its Nerds Summary
America Needs Its Nerds by Leonid Fridman proposes a relevant issue that the
intellectually gifted students are being ostracized in today s society. Fridman argues
that nerds and geeks need to stop being ashamed of themselves. He develops these
arguments by using the rhetorical strategy of parallelism, making comparisons,
utilizing diction and irony. Fridman uses parallelism through his sentence structure
and in the progression of the essay. Parallelism in sentence structure is shown in lines
three through four when he states, Intellectually curious and academically serious .
Those words are grammatically similar, with the same suffixes and pronunciations.
Parallelisms comes back again in lines seventeen through eighteen, when Fridman
states that, Nerds are ostracized while athletes are idolized . Ostracized and idolized
represent parallelism in sentence structure because of their endings and
pronunciation. The author uses parallelism in sentence structure to contribute to the
flow of the essay. This draws the reader to keep reading.... Show more content on

For instance, in lines thirty five though forty, the author compares the anti
intellectualism in America to the pro intellectualism in East Asian countries. Also, in
lines forty one through forty six, the author uses another international comparison
between the paychecks of baseball players in America and the paychecks of
professors in other countries. That being said, the paychecks of baseball players are
higher than professors in America. The author uses these examples to enhance his
argument on why America should be more accepting towards those who are
intellectually gifted. The comparisons that he had made help the reader understand his
Nonviolent Cases
On April 19, 1989, 29 year old Trisha Meili was brutally attacked and raped in
Central Park. The attack was a high profile case for a few reasons: the victim was a
white woman in an affluent part of Manhattan, and the perpetrators were thought to
be a group of young, low class Black and Latino teens from Harlem. Raymond
Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, and Korey Wise were
interrogated and manipulated, leading to their arrests and imprisonment for a brutal
rape that they did not commit, or even know of initially. With the only incriminating
evidence being the confessions of the teens, which were coerced and pressured by
detectives and police officers, the Central Park jogger case is a prime example of the

Since the Underclass is also apparently a culture of poverty and behavior being linked,
it is important to note that according to the National Research Council, over half of
fathers in prison reported being the primary source of income for their household. If
these fathers eventually do get released, the chances of them finding employment is
restricted, leaving the family struggling financially even more than they were before.
This continues to prove that even though there are systemic and legislative reasons as
to why the marginalized remain marginalized, the ruling society continuously blames
the disadvantaged groups for their living conditions. In the case of the five teens
accused of raping and brutally attacking Trisha Meili, the consequences aren t about
how they couldn t function as father figures because they were in prison, but rather
that their families were put under so much scrutiny and abuse under the lens of mass
media, the government, and the general public. Antron described his

In the novel, Passing Time, Ehrhart experiences change. For instance, Ehrhart begins
to realize that the war was a huge mistake on the government s behalf. Ehrhart
believed that the government shouldn t have taken part in the Vietnamese war due to
the innocent deaths that developed over the years. Many of the soldiers, including
Ehrhart, were traumatized by the killings during the war. Ehrhart often questions the
events that take place during the war. For example, when Ehrhart witnessed innocent
civilians being killed from both Korea and America. In war, Ehrhart, was taking part

The police treated the protest as if it was a riot. The police didn t give a reasonable
warning, but insisted on beating civilians to death because the police didn t agree
with the anti war members protest. For instance, Ehrhart describes that one woman
was being beaten to death by a police officer and Ehrhart tackled the police officer
to the ground (Ehrhart 166). A man had to help Ehrhart drag the woman to safety
after the woman was saved from being beaten to death. Another event that showed
the effects of the anti war movement well after Ehrhart returned from the war was
when Ehrhart was at another anti war protest. Ehrhart was explaining to the public
why he decided to go against the war. Ehrhart explained that he couldn t support
something so pointless (Ehrhart 177). Ehrhart believed the government had made
the people believe that they were trying to stop the vast spread of communism.
Ehrhart believed that the government was lying and that President Nixon wanted to
start and win another war (Ehrhart 169). Ehrhart often expressed his anti war
movement views to his crew mate, Roger. When talking to Roger, Ehrhart explains
his theory on why he feels lied to by the government. Ehrhart explained to Roger
that Vietnam is nothing but a way for the United States to express their dominance
and control. For example Ehrhart says, what we want is freedom to do business on
our own terms and as much of the damned pie we can grab (Ehrhart 181).

The TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller uses marketing mix techniques to successfully
make the product profitable for TriggerPoint the company. The product is a foam
roller to help with preventative care for people that are active with healthy life styles
or need to improve their mobility. This product is unfamiliar to me because I recently
had back and knee issues, which I started looking into trigger point exercises to help
with mobility. The company TriggerPoint has several products that help with care
prevention, including: Massage products, foot rollers, instructional books on trigger
points, and other informational DVDs and text to help assist with the products they
sell. The TriggerPoint company uses their commercials to inform, educate, and
advertise their product to aim toward people that care about their health or need to
improve their health. TriggerPoint GRID Foam Roller uses many different marketing
mixes such as segmenting, targeting, positioning, place, price, and does not even
need to promote to be a successful product for the company and provide consumers
with a product they need. Many people have become more active during this time on

Christmas Vs American Culture Essay
The average population of the United States develops themselves on the basic
understanding that Christmas is the same recognition around the world. On
December 25th, people open gifts, eat a hearty meal, and usually attend some type of
religious ceremony. However, the population may be surprised to find that their just
perception is wrong. Greenland, Jamaica, Zambia have many traditions that recognize
Christmas.
Greenland s observation of Christmas is that the homes should be dressed up with
numerous candles and red orange stars. Unlike the United States, the trees are not to
be light until the first Sunday in Advent (the first Sunday in the recognition of
Christmas); and are not to be taken down until the sixth of January. On December
24th, Christmas Eve, children go outside in the early morning to sing in choruses, for

The Pros And Cons Of Non Renewable Energy
Jobs for the solar and wind industries of Renewable Energy are inclining at one of
the fastest rates in the United States Economy. In 2011, the industries had 3.4 million
jobs respectively. Now in 2017, they have around 4.5 million jobs just within the
United States (Samuelson 2017). While on the other side, the Non Renewable job
market has been declining at a steady rate. Unfortunately, this is not the only reason
why Non Renewable Energyis bad. Non Renewable Energy is harmful and also
damaging because the established energy sources for this type of energy are oil,
coal, and gas. Fossil fuels have been proven to cause by products to human health

It s clean and sustainable. In order to find geothermal energy, it is available near
geological hot spots. These hot spots are an area in the mantle from which heat
rises as a thermal plume from deep in the Earth. Under these spots, a molten
material called magma is underneath the crust of the Earth and penetrates it.
Magma can cause and therefore turn into steam or hot water. People collect this
steam or water by putting steel pipes in the hotspot and then connect the pipe to a
power plant on the surface. So, the power plant uses the steam or water into using
it to make a steam turbine move ( Geothermal Energy Basics 2017). The steam or
water turns into a vapor and then pushes the steam turbine in order to collect the
warm energy. Some pros to using geothermal energy is that since its source is the
almost unlimited amount of heat generated by the Earth s core, it will never run
out. Another pro is that it can create jobs because someone is going to have to
work in the power plants. And that using geothermal energy is very efficient (300
500% compared to 90% of the best furnaces) (Michaelides 2017). But, there are also
cons. One con is that in order to get the steel pipes to suck up the heat, it uses energy
in the process. Also, in a bad scenario, geothermal power plants can cause
earthquakes. In order for countries to use geothermal energy, they must have money
to build several power plants, and must utilize any hot
Software Patent Law Essay
Software Patent Law
A patent can be defined as a legal document granted by the government giving an
inventor the exclusive right to make, use, and sell an invention for a specified
number of years. 1 These special rights are given to the inventor as a means of
incentive to further advance technology. The origins of patents are unknown, though
the distinction of the longest continuous patent system belongs to Great Britain. The
British patent system originated in the 15th century, when the Crown first started
dealing with the granting of privileges to manufacturers and traders. The earliest
known British patent was issued in 1449 for a method of making stained glass.2

How do U.S. and European policies affect the global perspective on patenting
software?
In the sections that follow, the policies of the U.S. and Europe will be analyzed to
see how these ethical questions may be answered.
Background Information: Governing Bodies
Up until recent times, the organization of the global patent system has simply been
that each country has their own patent laws and offices. These offices deal with their
own domestic patent filings, as well as those of foreigners seeking protection against
infringement in that particular country. Manufacturers have come to embrace the
idea of distributing their goods to the world market; so as globalization grows, so
does the need for international patents.
In 1973, thirteen European countries signed the European Patent Convention (EPC),
with the objective of developing a uniform patent system (the European Patent
Organisation) in order to make patent protection in Europe easier and less costly.
Four years later, the European Patent Office (EPO) was founded as the executive
branch of the Organisation. The EPO currently has twenty seven member countries,
and is still expecting more to join. Though the EPO does include all fifteen
members of the European Union (EU), it is important to note that the EPO is not
governed by the EU.3 Each country still maintains its own patent office and applies
its own laws. However, since the goal of the EPO is to harmonize
Legalist Qin Dynasty
The Period of the Warring States was a time of turmoil and unrest in Chinese history.
It started during the decline of the Zhou Dynasty in 479 BCE and lasted until 221
BCE. The 100 Chinese states fought and conquered one another, until the state of Qin
triumphed over the rest and formed the Qin Dynasty. Some of the largest effects that
came from the Period of the Warring States were the forming of the Legalist Qin
Dynasty, the spread and adoption of Confucianist ideas, and the influence of the
Daoist philosophy on Chinese society.
After the chaos ended, the Legalist Qin Dynasty proved an effective, but short lived
approach to governing the Chinese society. The centralized government ruled with an

The founder of Daoism was a sage named Laozi. Laozi and other sages wrote the
main Daoist literary work, the Daodejing, which educated disciples of Daoism on
the main topics of the philosophy. The Daodejing contained the most basic
principles of Daoism, such as dao and wuwei. In addition to this, Daoism had a
great effect on Chinese culture and art. After Daoism was prevalent in the Warring
States time, many art pieces depicted nature as a huge, vast being and humans as
small, powerless to nature s forces. This was a main concept of Daoism, which was
centered around disengaging so nature can control one s life and make it
harmonious. Another concept of Daoism that lingered in Chinese society is the
pairing of yin and yang. Yin and yang represent two opposite forces that perfectly
balance, creating the perfect symbiotic relationship. Balance and peace were very
important concepts in Daoism, and this relationship symbolized the harmony that
could occur when two forces were perfectly matched. Yin and yang also inspired art
works and scenes in movies, such as the film Hero. One famous disciple of Daoism
was Zhuangzi. Zhuangzi was credited with writing one of the famous and
foundational Daoist works, the Zhuangzi. It consisted of fables and anecdotes about
the carefree nature of Zhuangzi as the

Young merchants were encouraged to travel abroad at a young age so they can
become familiar with the region because later in life they would have to make a
decision to either stay in their home city or go live in a foreign city. Although
luxury goods continued to be imported from the Far East, merchants wanted to
produce exotic goods, such as silk cloth, within Europe (Langley 17). Most
merchants chose to live abroad because there was more business than in their
home city but were required to send the money back to their own city. Apprentices
were young people in a profession. If they wanted to make their profession their
life they had to join a guild and become someone s apprentice. When you were and
apprentice you usually had to do small jobs for example getting paint ready if you
were a painter, but as the years progressed you might be able to add the finishing
touches to your masters work. (Lecture Apprenticeships).
The guilds were famous and they commissioned people to do certain things. When
the guilds were told to build something for their city, for example Florence, they
would commission someone to do something. The magistrates of the merchants guild
of Florence commissioned [Andrea del Verrocchio] to execute a bronze Doubting of
Thomas (Verrocchio, Andrea del).

problems. Example of the practice is seen in 5.2.1 5 42, 5.2.2 5 59, and 5.2.3 5 74.
Each problem in this text is recommended that the students work in groups and there

student gains an understanding of the concept in sequences rather that the rule. Given
that many of the lesson plans are built around the students making sense of

Popular Shows During The Golden Age Of Theatre

next period of American theatre, is known as the golden age of theatre. Shows during
this time period tended to be a bit showier than in other periods focusing more on
technical and design elements, while still maintaining a story. During the golden age

Some of the most popular shows take the form of musicals during this era.
Popular musicals include: The Wizard of Oz, Oklahoma. Although musicals may
now be the most popular part of Broadway, during its initial experiments it seems that
producers were skeptical about its commercial potential. Many of the musicals

The Is The Grace Of Life
Your wife as Peter says is the grace of life. She is your true companion. You get to
share an intimate fellowship and companionship with your wife and she is one of the
greatest and most blessed gifts that God has given to you.
Husbands, die to self and show honor to your wife because she deserves it. Put
aside your desires, your preferences, what you want, and get to know what your wife
needs, and then do everything you can to meet those needs. That is sacrificial love.
For the husband who is loving and caring, God promises that your prayers won t be
hindered. If you, as a husband, do not take care of your wife, you are not sacrificial,
loving, caring, then God says your prayers will be hindered.
Remember what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13? Verse 5, Love does not seek its own.
Husbands, make sacrifices for your wife, put her interests before your own, and
demonstrate the kind of sacrificial love that Christ gives to us.
I understand this type of love is a great challenge for you husbands. We can t love
perfectly as Christ loves us. But our love for our wives can and should demonstrate
the same type of love He has for us. Christ died on the cross for us, demonstrating a
sacrificial love, with Him expecting nothing in return, and His love for us cost Him
His life. That is the same kind of love you are to have for your wives.
Second, Christ s love for the church is sanctifying love.
II. Love is Sanctifying

The Rhetorical Analysis Of President Ronald Reagan s
Speech
June 12th, 1987 President Ronald Reagan arrives at the Brandenburg Gate in West
Berlin to speak to the citizens and leaders of West Germany. The main goal of this
speech is to gather his audience, the people of West Berlin, to accept the ideas of
western democracy and oppose that of the 25 year old Berlin Wall. As Ronald Reagan
is the President of the United States, he obviously has credibility; therefore, he in turn
uses this in combination with logical and moral appeals to present a convincing
argument to an eager German audience.
In his speech President Ronald Reagan uses the rhetorical appeal of ethos to prove
his validity. Ronald Reagan is not only known as the President of the United
States, but also as an effective communicator and an excellent rhetorician. During
the time of this speech President Reagan is in his second term due to a landslide
win in the 1984 election. His successful first year in office, as well as him being the
leader of the free world proves to give him the integrity and validity to the people of
West Germany. The use of ethos in this speech arises from facts, examples and the
openness to alternate views. Reagan acknowledges the opposing views of other
leaders. Reagan states that In the 1950 s, Kruschev predicted; We will bury you. But
in the West today, we see a free world that has achieved a level of prosperity and well
being unprecedented in all human history In the communist world, we see failure,

use of the information gathered from this to help us understand how these similar

The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A
Comparable...
2. Literature review
The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond
and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield
spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate
bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton
(1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility,
liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also
significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013;
Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001).
2.1 Equity Volatility
One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant
of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific
equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship
between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short
put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that
company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive
relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012).
Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence
supporting Merton (1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. Radier et al (2015)
is the only one of these studies

sometimes we fail to effectively use our communications well. This is not only at the

information. Within the Incident Command System among the Command Staff rests

There are many characteristics which a PIO should have, which I will only share a
few. The most important characteristic for a PIO is to be the subject matter expert.
When a PIO is selected who is not adequately qualified, he or she is being set up for
failure. The PIO has to be able to articulate the message in a simple, concise and
clear manner. This person must be believable and come across as a trust worthy
person. The fact of the matter is that the PIO will not only speak the radio but more
importantly in front of cameras and the public. When people look at a speaker, the
body language, facial expressions and gestures relay positive or negative presence.
Even if the message is good, sometimes the results can be looked at in a bad light.

Visual Analysis For Milk Life
An advertisement in the September 2016 issue of the health and fitness magazine
Experience Life is inescapable for its fit model holding a glass of milk, with her
bicycle leaning against the fence and partially resting on her knee. The athlete
occupies the foreground; the middle ground features cows and expansive lush green
pasture, while the background is characterized by a farm building with its backdrop
covered of rolling hills and sun rays peeking through the tree line beyond. The Milk
Life advertisement is almost entirely visual, with the entire page covered by the
photograph and the advertisingtext covering over the image. This gives the
impression of the text fading in comparison to the graphic message. Although

For instance, it is widely believed that Americans owe it to themselves to strive for
all things that make life better including making the most out of the ordinary
situations. The entire farm landscape, with an exceptional Olympian at the forefront
is a perfect representation of overlooked beauty and strength in a simple and
seemingly ordinary location. The combined imagery, therefore, emphasizes the
possibility of deriving greatness from basic undertakings. There is also a
widespread supposition that Americans are fiercely patriotic. The ad seems to stress
this hypothesis, as is evident from the inclusion of the country s flag, as well as, as a
model donning a jacket bearing the same symbol of patriotism.
Overall, the milk life ad conveys a significant message and appeals to its target
audience not just because of the actual text, but primarily due to the visual elements
coupled with the spatial positioning of said imagery and text. The ad is especially
captivating for patriotic individuals, who take pride in being associated with America
s achievements, as well as, prospective fitness enthusiasts and healthy lifestyle
The Blind Side Symbolic Interactionism Analysis
Symbolic Interactionism Perspective In The Blind Side, Michael was raised in the
projects of Memphis, Tennessee. One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne
Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having
her husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to
sleep at the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a
warm place to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two
was Michael s first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would
give him a reason to keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne
continued to include Michael in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly
feeling Michael got from her. The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the
symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon the process of social
interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as social, developed interaction
with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a physical reality does indeed
exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially develop in relation to
something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism is the way we
earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions with others.
Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong bond.
This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne
cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better
himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from
Leigh Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another
example of Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at
Wingate converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting
around a table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when
admissions allow students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They
are just setting him up to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even
the least bit intelligent and will fail their classes. In the years before Michael was
allowed into private school, he had

Given the current concern for our planet, worry over climate change
Formation of Glaciers
To begin formation of a glacier, snow falls. This snow transforms into firn, which

Flow of Ice Masses
There are many categories of glacier that depend on their properties, for example
relative size, location and flow speed. A glacier can be on land or floating. Thick,
floating glaciers are referred to as ice shelves. Ice streams are channels in which ice
flows much faster than the ice surrounding it.
Reaction of Glaciers to Environmental Change
Glacial flow is the primary cause of differentiation between glaciers in their growth
and retreat. Broadly, glacial change happens simultaneously with similar rates of
development. Occasionally, random fluctuations seem to occur, as can be found in
rock records from the Pleistocene epoch, where continental ice sheets were subject
apparent random growth and retreat, (Cuffey Paterson, 2010). The most direct
influence on the progress of a glacier is climate. A change in climate has the obvious
direct effect of melting ice or depositing more snow, these processes are called the
mass balance. A
General Motors Case Study
General Motors Case Study #3 Problem Summary: One of the most serious
problems that GM faces is when the firm announced a $10.6 billion loss, which
was their first in 12 years. The auditors for General Motors even thought that the
firm s survival was in substantial doubt even if they received the additional $30
billion they were going to borrow from the federal government. The problems have
grown as a result of mistakes by GM s management over the last 30 years. They
built up a bloated bureaucracy that supplied boring, low quality cars for many
years. GM will also lose leadership of the United States market, having already been
replaced by Toyota as the world s largest automaker. GM has been burdened with a

GM has also been pushed to offer more attractive cars that would generate better

from the Treasury Department and Energy Department will allow the firm to return
to profitability, and they should finally be able to turn things around by 2012. I
believe GM should use liquidity ratios in order to determine their financial analysis
for their short term progress. They need to use inbound logistics such as marketing

April Greiman is by far one of the most influential female artists in the history of
Design. She was born in New York in 1948 and was raised in a very family oriented
environment, her creativity was greatly influenced by her mother, father and aunt
who shared a passion for art, music and encouraged her to be an independent,
curious, adventurous woman. After acknowledging her great interest in art, she
applied to several art schools and was accepted into the Kansas City Art Institute

This new genre in art quickly confirmed Greiman s position as the pioneer of visual
communication and design. Her eagerness to learn and explore this new medium is
what has gotten her the respect and appreciation for her work. Her ability to engage
the audience and embrace spaces by providing a floating effect to her work,
combining architecture and typographic forms allowed her to become one of the
most prominent icons in the design world.
In 1982, April Greiman was selected head of the design department at the California
Institute of the Arts. Throughout her time in CalArts, she focused on her role as an
educator and the importance of transforming design. Greiman was able to take
advantage of the state of the art equipment that was provided by the institution and
began to combine video and media images in her work. Her input in this field and her
accomplishments successfully gave her the opportunity to make this department
more focused in a variety of ideas other than design renaming this field as visual
communication.
The popularity and recognition April Greiman gained over the years is mostly

Mexican Market Revolution Essay
The Market Revolution in the America was characterized by the development of
technology and the desire to maximize profit. To achieve maximum profit,
Americans turned to illegal means to acquire cheap labor and land. In the case of
the Mexicans, Americans saw the abundance of raw materials in California and
Texas and annexed the territories through border dispute. The Mexican landowners
were left vulnerable to the American legal structures and lost the title to their lands.
Once landowners, the Mexican became the cheap labor for the Americans and some
even became the workers on the land they once owned. Taking a hard look at the
core of the Market Revolution, one will find that the revolution was rooted in greed.

Around sixty ranchers submitted a petition to the Congress protesting the unfair legal
process that each landowner had to go through to prove their claims to the lands.
Although this petition did not stop the legal structures from continuing to exploit the
vulnerability of the Mexicans, it undoubtedly reflected the stark contrast between the
lives of Mexicans before and after entering the American society, served as a
criticism and a challenge for the unjust legal system, and demonstrated that the
Mexicans were very capable of standing up for themselves, as opposed to being
submissive. Aside from this petition, many of the dispossessed Mexicans formed a
community of the dispossessed where they shared their experiences and stories and
showed support for each other (Takaki 169). Through sharing their stories with others,
their stories were passed down to the future generations and through these stories,
history was preserved. Both the petition and the community worked to shed light
upon the inequality in United States, and how the legal system contradicted itself by
serving as the tool of discrimination while advocating for the equality of all
A Short Note On Clean Magic Eraser Sponge
It is often heard that the job that really matters in a female s life (even on a day that
is meant to celebrate them) is having them do what they do best , cleaning.
The ad that I personally chose to discuss is a mother s day Mr. Clean Magic Eraser
Sponge advertisement. This is a double sided utility sponge in which it may be
used to clean all sorts of surfaces. It accordingly built to get all your tough stains
out. This sponge is very easy to use, and will work on really any surface that one
desires to use it on. This advertisement really doesn t have a specific age that it
intends to target, but it does target a solo demographic. Women.
In America today, the use of stereotypes has become very commonplace in today s
society. It is ridiculously amazing how easy it is for people to throw labels on one
another. Another thing that amazes me is that the media has always found it easier to
attack the female demographic. Women often are labeled as stay home wives ,
maids , as for women commonly hearing that we are not capable of performing
several forms of hard labor.
The Mr. Clean Mother s Day advertisement is promoting a magic sponge eraser in
which it is used to clean a kitchen, bathroom and or preferably any given surface.
Aside from the picture of the product, there are a few words placed at the top left
corner. Those words state: This mother s day, get back to the job that really matters.

Ideal Gas Formula Lab Report
Abstract: This experiment was performed to determine the molar mass of an
unknown using the ideal gas equation. The measurements needed to determine the
molar mass were obtained by heating the unknown to 90 degrees Celsius while
recording the required measures such as the mass, volume, and temperature as the
unknown became a gas. Then the measurements were inserted into the ideal gas
equation PV=nRT. Using the ideal gas formula and measurements determined the
molar mass was found by rearranging the formula leaving the unknown s molar mass
of ethylene glycol.
Procedure: In preparation 600mL of water was added to a beaker then an
Erlenmeyer flask was placed inside to determine the water level when the

The 600 mL of water was placed on the hot plate to heat it to 90 degrees Celsius so
that the gas would heat up and evaporate. Using gloves to prevent finger prints and
residue that would increase the mass a 5 cm square of aluminum foil was attached
to the flasks neck then secured using a rubber band. A rubber band was used in
place of copper wire because both exhibit similar properties such as how they
handle heat and they both will securely hold the aluminum foil in place. During
this time the flask was weighted to gather the mass prior to the unknown being
added. Then the cover was removed and 5 mL of unknown was added to the
Erlenmeyer flask and resealed. This is in addition to an aluminum bib to further
secure the cover and prevent gas from escaping the side. Next a small hole was
made in the center of the aluminum cover to allow the gas to escape as it evaporates.
The Erlenmeyer flask with the unknown was placed in the hot water at an angle so

The Importance of Extracurricular Activities
The struggle is real. Maintaining the three most important aspects of teenage life
grades, sleep, and social life is hard enough, but when you throw in the stress of
having to add more onto your plate for a better future, it can be almost suffocating.
It is possible to only have to worry about making the top grades to be automatically
admitted into a college and then you re free from having to add more to your plate,
but does that have lasting benefits like branching out into extracurriculars does?
Being smart can only take a person so far in life. Learning skills like time
management, organization, and leadership are vital to a person s success in the
future; all of which can be learned through the experiences that extracurriculars
provide. Therefore, being involved in extracurricular activities can prove to have
stronger and a broader spectrum of benefits than solely focusing on grades.
Extracurriculars teach students lessons that will last them a lifetime, not a semester.
Students who have active lives learn very quickly how to manage their time (Kelley).
This is true because students learn organizational skills from having to wisely budget
their time (Kelley). The student that sits at home every night simply studying and
doing their work to make the best grades, learn only the words written on the paper.
As for the student that spends every day at after school practices, meetings, and going
to events on the weekends, they learn from the experiences they have.

The seeds of world war II lies in the instability created by world war I. particularly
the instability in Germany in the economic and political conditions due to the
harshness of the Versailles treaty and as a result the rise of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi

The effects of the treaty of Versailles:
The treaty of Versailles harshness was one of the main causes for the outbreak of
World War II. It began in 1919 when Lloyd George of England, Orlando of Italy,

Germany will pay for the devastation it cause in World War II. Woodrow Wilson

the most common cause of hearing loss is noise induced and can occur from just a

can range anywhere from 100 to 120 decibels, with heavy rock band Manowar
claiming the title of loudest concert ever, at a recorded level of 129 decibels.
What Type Of Earplugs To Look For
It is perfectly normal to experience temporary pain or ringing in the ears following a
loud concert. However, if you regularly attend live events it is important that you
protect your hearing sufficiently. More to the point, you also want to hear the music
going on, so make sure you are getting the right type of ear plug. A standard foam
ear plug will make the music softer, which is great for your ears. However, it will
also muffle the sound and dampen your concert experience.
High fidelity earplugs are a perfect balance of protection and quality to make sure you
can enjoy live music and performances, burden free. High fidelity earplugs work by
creating a flat attenuation in the sound, essentially turning down the sound of the

Wildland Fire Essay
Virtually everywhere in the United States is affected to one degree of another by
wildland fires. Even if a community is not directly involved with the fire itself,
chances are that some of its members have gone to help fight wildland fires in other
areas of the country by providing manpower, financial support, or other humanitarian

Policies regarding the handling of wildland fires continue to change and evolve as
new information is learned each fire season. Attitudes have changed between
complete wildland fire suppression to no suppression at all. We now seem to have

605). Energy cannot be created or destroyed; it only changes form. There are several
sources of heat. These sources are chemical, mechanical, electrical, and nuclear.
Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes
from chemical reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical
reaction where heat is being released. Pyrolysis is the decomposition or
transformation of a compound caused by heat. (Coleman, et al. 81)
Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from
friction. Friction is a resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of
materials. For firefighters, this source of fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery
(Coleman, et al. 81).
Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a
given area. Electrons flow from the negatively charged region to the positively
charged region. This is usually accomplished by using an electrical conductor which
allows the electrons to pass freely through the material (Serway, et al. 709). This flow
of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the molecules and electrons
occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus releasing heat.
Some common examples of electrical energy are lightning, static electricity, and
wiring outlets (Coleman, et al. 82). For the wildland firefighter, lightning is probably

The Absence of Social Conflict Social Stability in Brave New World
In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley introduces the dystopia of a society created on
the principle of social stability at all costs. Huxley wrote this book in 1932 hoping to
warn future generations of what he feared might happen if society did not do
something to stop the inevitable. The leaders of our society today hope for and work
towards social stability without taking away primitive rights. Social stability can
only be achieved by a society whose beliefs in social and ethical issues are never
challenged. So even though modern society hopes for social stability, it is not a
practical aspiration because it is obvious that some of the social and ethical ... Show

The people in the Brave New World society are divided into five castes. The highest
most intelligent caste is the Alphas; they are the ones that make the rules and
regulations for all other lower castes to follow. Betas, Gammas, Deltas, and
Epsilons follow in order as well as intelligence, level of control, and social stature.
Neo Pavlovian conditioning ensures the order of the castes. For a society to be
socially stable every person in the society must feel like they belong. The caste
system in Brave New World ensures that every person in the society has a function
that they feel is essential to the success of the society as a whole. Since jobs are
designed for each caste by the social skills they exhibit and their intelligence level,
it makes it possible for very member of the society to do a job specially designed
for their level of ability. Gammas and Deltas carry out menial tasks such as
operating an elevator, or being a gopher. Alphas are designated jobs such as the
manager of a company or a doctor. The caste system affects the individual by
making them feel needed and therefore avoiding social conflicts having to do with an
individual feeling like they are left out of society.

certainly some of the most violent and dangerous years of the Republic. From the
secession of South Carolina to the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee at Appomattox
Courthouse, Lincoln s America faced numerous problems and situations that required
a strong leader. In addition, the entire fabric of American democracy and liberalism
was attacked. However, in what light must Lincoln be presented? Was Lincoln a
simple man, whose development from defender of slavery to its moral opposition can
be seen?
In short, no. Lincoln is not a simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The United States was not far behind in fact, public opinion can be considered one
of the reasons that the Southern states seceded from the rest of the Union. Lincoln,
between 1861 and 1863, had turned the Civil War into a moral question. Slavery
was evil, and Lincoln would argue that the North was sent by God to deliver the
southern slaves to freedom. By 1863, Lincoln called for a new birth of freedom for
a nation that was conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men
are created equal. 2 In 1865, Lincoln moves further, turning the Civil War almost
into the epic good versus evil battle described by the Bible. God had willed that
slavery would end, and to achieve that purpose he sent Abraham Lincoln and the
other men of the Union to implement his will upon the South. Lincoln, in his 1865
Inaugural Address, basically argues that although the South and North both pray for
the same God, the South does not understand what God wills. The South, stuck in
its ignorant ways, has perverted the word of God to allow for the enforcement of
slavery. Lincoln argues that it is the duty of the North to stand with firmness in the
right, as God gives us to see the right and to always move forward

Frame of Reference and Appropriate Theory The occupational therapist could use
motor control and motor learning frames of reference to justify the occupational
therapy treatment. Specifically, the therapist will focus on the neurodevelopmental
theory. Due to individuals with Rett syndrome having motor deficits, the
neurodevelopmental theory focuses specifically on motor controlhealth conditions in
children and adults (Cole Tufano, 2008). The theory uses sensorimotor components to
establish a baseline for occupational performances. The neurodevelopmental theory
evaluates the response to sensory input and the quality and strength of movements for
individuals with Rett syndrome (Cole Tufano, 2008). The guidelines for the theory s
intervention for children with developmental disabilities, like Rett syndrome, include
education for caregivers, adaptive equipment, and participating in sensory activities
(Reed, 2014).
Cultural Context
Cianfaglione et al. (2016) studied the psychological well being of mothers and
siblings of an individual with Rett syndrome. The mothers of children with Rett
syndrome experience increased mental health problems and stress compared to
mothers without a child with a developmental disability. Siblings of a child with Rett
syndrome exhibited increased psychological problems compared to having a sibling
without disabilities (Cianfaglione et al., 2016). Lim et al. (2013) conducted a study of

Oil Dependency: Increase Research Funds America s dependency on foreign oil is
slowly crippling the average citizen s hard earned income with outrageous
fluctuation in gas prices. The American government seriously needs to step it in
gear and start taking action on possible supplemental energy sources to replace
foreign oil and actually begin providing those sources to the public without
overpricing. Today s foreign oil is polluting our air and crushing we as American s
pockets. Rising U.S. demand for imported oil accounts for more than a third of the

But with more money for further research into the problem, this could ultimately
become obsolete with the hybrid car. There are other means of possible future
solutions to our oil dependency, one being hydrogen fuel cars. This is my main
personal solution to oil energy. The process of retracting hydrogen from water to
be stored within a power cell is genius. This fuel cell is the power source for the car
s engine to run. Maker s of this cell are attempting to develop a hydrogen power
center than can be kept at the owner s residence for fuel fill ups. The idea is for
water to be pumped within this power center and then separate the hydrogen
molecules to be stored within a hydrogen cell. This greater hydrogen cell within the
center would be able to be pumped or drained into the car s power cell, ultimately
creating an alternative fuel source for motor vehicles. With good intentions, there are
already some companies sponsoring further research for this technology. The
FreedomCAR and Fuel Partnership includes the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE),
United States Council for Automotive Research (USCAR), whose members are
DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company and General Motors
Corporation; and five major energy companies. The government research program
supporting the partnership s goals is part of the administration s $1.7 billion initiative
Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling
Year Round Schools

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer
retention is much higher, special education and english language learners benefit
much more, end of the year test scores are higher and the year round school calendar
fits our culture more now than it used to with the traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out
what to write and research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the
bottom was the topic Year Round Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that
sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would I not want a longer
summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or two
week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the
topic I learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits
to year round schools than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research
shows that their children have better end of the year test scores. They also show that
English language learner children and Special Education children learn at a faster
pace than the children at traditional schools with the same programs. Also the
summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and then
remember is much higher in year round
`` Blue Moon Of Kentucky ``
From an American perspective, the color blue symbolizes and represents a
multitude of social and iconic aspects identified as uniquely Kentuckian. The
Bluegrass State stands as one of the most recognizable state monikers across the
country, Blue Moon of Kentucky is a famous waltz recorded by both Bluegrass
musical creator Bill Monroe (as well as the king of rock Elvis Presley), and chants
of Go Big Blue!! echo across the state from those that support the University of
Kentuckys athletic programs. Lost to represent Kentucky citizens in this twentieth
century movement toward a more popular iconography are the sacrificial
contributions for the Union cause made by ordinary Kentuckians during the Civil
War. As events unfolded in the 1860s domestic crisis between the Blue and Gray,
Kentucky s Appalachian residents provided a bastion of physical and strategic
support for those that marched and fought in the uniform of the darker hue. In 1897,
future President Theodore Roosevelt singled out Kentucky s Appalachian citizens
impact on the war proclaiming when the full history of the war is written we shall
realize more than we do our debt to the loyal people of the South...there (was) a larger
proportion of descendants of revolutionary soldiery in Kentucky than any other
state... (who could) overflow from their mountains and re enforce the nation.
Historians have produced numerous scholarly accounts about the American Civil War

Themes Of Honor In A Tale Of Two Cities

Honors English 10
1 October 2017
What of Honor?
Some would say that honor is a thing of the past; a thing long since extinct with the
King Arthur and the knights of the round table. In fact, it is not, it is real and can
still be seen all around through people all the time. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale
of Two Cities, honor and dishonor are main themes that are exemplified and enacted
through many characters. To be honorable, or to act in honor, is to act in a way that
is not necessarily socially acceptable, but is morally right, noble, and kind. To be
dishonorable is to neglect the basic responsibility of treating every human being in
the respectful manner they deserve, giving no variance to rank or status. Throughout
the book different men show varying degrees of honor and dishonor.
One such man was Charles Darnay, who, throughout the entire novel, was a prime
example of honor and merit. In the early part of the novel, Darnay pays a visit to
his oppressive uncle who was a French Marquis, and responsible for the death and
poverty of many of his subjects. Darnay went to the Marquis on behalf of those
being oppressed by his family member; beseeching his uncle to have mercy and act
with benevolence toward those peasants he disregarded so easily. Darnay, unable to
convince his uncle of the need to change his ways left his home country for good to
be free of his family s misdeeds. In chapter twenty four of Book the Second the

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Metal
Awnings
Wondering What Type Of Awnings To Choose? Here s How Metal And Fabric
Compare
If you ve decided it s time to get awnings for your house windows, you might be
overwhelmed with all your choices. Unless you already know the kind of awnings
you want, you may wonder which type is best for your home.
You have two basic choices to begin with. You can install a metal or fabric awning
.
Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, but both types work well, so you
can t really go wrong no matter which type you choose. Here is a look at how these
options differ.
Awning Appearance
Metal awnings and fabric awnings look similar but since the materials are so
different, you can tell them apart quite easily. Metal awnings can be standing seam or
flat metal.
If you have a metal roof, one of these awnings could look like a natural extension of
the roof. They come in a number of colors so you can match or contrast the colors of
your home. Fabric awnings have the most variety when it comes to appearance.
These awnings come in a range of colors, stripes, and patterns. Fabric awnings also
come in a variety of shapes since the fabric can take on the shape of the form
beneath it. Fabric is also used on retractable awnings since it can be rolled up easily
and hidden when the awning is not in use.
Sun Protection
Metal awnings are solid material so they completely block the sun. Fabric awnings
can let some light filter through depending on the type of fabric you choose. Consider

good enough to maintain a good family relationship? All of these are the main

The Watts Music Festival
In a world of political discourse with racism and hate running rampant, a few great
men and women came together to bring unity and harmony like never before: in the
form of massive music festivals. In the late 1972, the black community came together
for a concert known as Watts Summer Festival. In 1969, the largest musicfestival of
its time was held, and was known as Woodstock. Later that year, the Rolling Stones
put together a massive free concert in San Francisco known as the Altamont Concert.
All of the concerts and music festivals were not aimed at making money or becoming
famous, but about the unity of people through the art of music. On August 20, 1972,
the Watts music festival was held in Los Angelas. This was a festival put together by
the Stax recording company in order to honor the men, women, and children who
were devastated in the riots in Watts, a primarily African Americancommunity.
Performers in this eight hour festival included James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Isaac
Hayes, the late Harmonica Fats, WAR, Richard Pryor, Nancy Wilson, Gil Scott
Heron, Barry White, the Watts Prophets, Charles Wright and the 103rd Street Rhythm
Band and the Staple Singers. The film,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On this somewhat rainy weekend, nearly 500,000 people came together for the

the definitive nexus for the larger counterculture generation . This was a weekend in
which peace and acceptance throughout the country was celebrated and
communicated through love and music, just like during the Watts and Altamont
music festival. The man who owned the dairy farm even mentioned that the near half
million group of young people that came to Woodstock proved to the world that they
can get together for fun and music, nothing but fun and

Lesson one: The Plot in the Story
Introduction
Good stories have a beginning, middle and end. But editors look for the plot arc, or
some variation of it. If you are an established, well recognized author you might
tweak The arc model, but the rest of us must slug through it. And for good reason.
The arc will pull your reader through the story. It is the reason why your reader will
turn the pages until the very end. It also helps the writer focus their story line, cut out
the parts that are slowing it down, and highlight the parts that help move the story.
Trust me, in the end The arc will be your friend.
If all of this comes as a surprise to you then you have been reading wonderful books
or watching wonderful movies/TV shows
Alice Walker s The Color Purple
Set against the patriarchal backdrop of the Deep South with its norm of male
dominance, Alice Walker s novel, The Colour Purple, maps the journey the
protagonist, Celie, makes through patriarchal subservience toward self awareness
and personal freedom. Walker uses an epistolary structure to record Celie s
progress. A series of letters written to God and later, as a dialogic correspondence
with her sister reveals Celie s growth and the power of communication. Celie s
letters to Nettie are invisible; Nettie never sees them. They are a means through
which Celie can chronicle her life and consider her responses to and understanding of
the circumstances in which she finds herself. Writing the letters creates a sororal

The Pros And Cons Of Smuggling
Smuggling is the illegal transportation of objects, information or people, such as
out of a house or buildings, into a prison, or across an international border, in
violation of applicable laws or other regulations . Diplomats and officials involved
in drug smuggling have benefited from diplomatic immunity via the diplomatic
bag. For example, a Venezuelan general wanted in the United States on drugs
charges and arrested in Aruba was released after the Venezuelan government
protested his diplomatic immunity and threatened sanctions if Aruba did not
release him It is of note that the Sterling submachine gun used to shoot dead WPC
Yvonne Fletcher from inside the Libyan Embassy in London was smuggled out of
the United Kingdom in one of 21 diplomatic bags in 1984 . In 2012, a 16 kg
shipment of cocaine was sent to the United Nations in New York in a bag
masquerading as a diplomatic pouch while in January 2012, Italy detected 40
kilograms of cocaine smuggled in a diplomatic pouch from Ecuador . A diplomatic
bag, also known as a diplomatic pouch, is a container whose contents are protected
from searches or seizure by the provisions of Article 27 Vienna Convention. The
diplomatic bag is to be naturally used to carry official correspondence or other items
between a diplomatic mission and its home government or to carry items that a...

Military Justice System
The United States has a comprehensive and vigorously protected system for ensuring
the rights of defendants in criminal trials conducted in the State and Federal courts.
Among these protections are the right to an attorney, the right to remain silent in lieu
of making self incriminating statements, the right to a trial by an impartial jury, the
presumption of innocence, and the exclusion of evidence obtained in violation of the
constitutional rights of the accused. The brave men and women of the United States
armed forces have laid their lives on the line in defense of these rights and the others
that we enjoy as American citizens, and yet they are systematically denied these same
rights by the military justice system. The military justice system has two important
components: The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which is essentially the
set of laws that govern military personnel, and the Manual for Courts Martial
(MCM), which outlines the rules of procedure for courts martial and the military rules
of evidence. While, on the surface, these documents appear to establish a system very
similar to the civilian court system that most Americans are familiar
The Schwarzenegger Campaign Committee Depicts
Angelides
Family Schwarzenegger
In the ad Family, the Schwarzenegger campaign committee depicts Angelides as a
someone intending to hurt families and businesses with his new taxes. The ad
shows the viewers that with Angelides, California would be moving backwards
instead of forwards like with Schwarzenegger. It claims he intends to create new
taxes that will ultimately destroy families and small businesses by making it harder
to afford the big items in life we all tend to strive for. With the use of pathos, ethos
and logos, this ad creates emotional appeal with family matters and shows the
character and credibility of Angelides vs Schwarzenegger.
In the beginning the ad is in black and white with Angelides walking backwards.
This is no doubt a metaphor for California taking a step backwards with Angelides
as governer. The ad uses images of families and children to tap into our emotional
view. Attempting to show people with families that with Angelides as governer,
they will undoubtably be unable to support their families. Jib Fowles explains how
images tap into our emotional appeal in his essay Advertising 15 basic appeals. He
states Some few ads have their emotional appeal in the text but for the greater
number by far the appeal is contained in the artwork. This makes sense, since visual
communication better suits more primal levels of the brain. The ad uses these
images to appeal to the viewers parental side, making the audience feel they need to

Religious Tolerance Essays. Short paragraph on tolerance. Anger Is Short Madness Free Essays ...

  • 1. Religious Tolerance Essays Writing an essay on the topic of religious tolerance presents a unique set of challenges that require careful consideration and a nuanced approach. Firstly, it demands a deep understanding of various religious beliefs, practices, and cultural contexts. This requires extensive research to avoid oversimplification or misrepresentation of diverse faiths. Moreover, navigating the delicate balance between advocating for tolerance and respecting individual religious convictions can be challenging. Striking the right tone is crucial to ensure the essay does not come across as preachy or dismissive of deeply held beliefs. It's important to approach the topic with empathy, acknowledging the complexity of religious diversity and the historical context of interfaith relations. Crafting a coherent and well-structured argument is another hurdle. The essay should provide a clear thesis statement, supported by well-reasoned arguments and relevant examples. Juggling different perspectives while maintaining a coherent narrative can be demanding, requiring a keen awareness of the potential pitfalls of bias or oversights. Additionally, the sensitive nature of the topic means that the writer must be mindful of potential backlash or misinterpretation. Striking a balance between promoting open dialogue and avoiding controversy is a tightrope walk that necessitates careful consideration of language and tone throughout the essay. In conclusion, writing an essay on religious tolerance demands a high level of research, empathy, and skillful argumentation. The complexities surrounding this topic require a writer's thoughtful approach to ensure the essay is informative, respectful, and contributes positively to the discourse on religious diversity. • 2. America Needs Its Nerds Summary America Needs Its Nerds by Leonid Fridman proposes a relevant issue that the intellectually gifted students are being ostracized in today s society. Fridman argues that nerds and geeks need to stop being ashamed of themselves. He develops these arguments by using the rhetorical strategy of parallelism, making comparisons, utilizing diction and irony. Fridman uses parallelism through his sentence structure and in the progression of the essay. Parallelism in sentence structure is shown in lines three through four when he states, Intellectually curious and academically serious . Those words are grammatically similar, with the same suffixes and pronunciations. Parallelisms comes back again in lines seventeen through eighteen, when Fridman states that, Nerds are ostracized while athletes are idolized . Ostracized and idolized represent parallelism in sentence structure because of their endings and pronunciation. The author uses parallelism in sentence structure to contribute to the flow of the essay. This draws the reader to keep reading.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in lines thirty five though forty, the author compares the anti intellectualism in America to the pro intellectualism in East Asian countries. Also, in lines forty one through forty six, the author uses another international comparison between the paychecks of baseball players in America and the paychecks of professors in other countries. That being said, the paychecks of baseball players are higher than professors in America. The author uses these examples to enhance his argument on why America should be more accepting towards those who are intellectually gifted. The comparisons that he had made help the reader understand his
  • 3. Nonviolent Cases On April 19, 1989, 29 year old Trisha Meili was brutally attacked and raped in Central Park. The attack was a high profile case for a few reasons: the victim was a white woman in an affluent part of Manhattan, and the perpetrators were thought to be a group of young, low class Black and Latino teens from Harlem. Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron McCray, Yusef Salaam, and Korey Wise were interrogated and manipulated, leading to their arrests and imprisonment for a brutal rape that they did not commit, or even know of initially. With the only incriminating evidence being the confessions of the teens, which were coerced and pressured by detectives and police officers, the Central Park jogger case is a prime example of the scapegoating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the Underclass is also apparently a culture of poverty and behavior being linked, it is important to note that according to the National Research Council, over half of fathers in prison reported being the primary source of income for their household. If these fathers eventually do get released, the chances of them finding employment is restricted, leaving the family struggling financially even more than they were before. This continues to prove that even though there are systemic and legislative reasons as to why the marginalized remain marginalized, the ruling society continuously blames the disadvantaged groups for their living conditions. In the case of the five teens accused of raping and brutally attacking Trisha Meili, the consequences aren t about how they couldn t function as father figures because they were in prison, but rather that their families were put under so much scrutiny and abuse under the lens of mass media, the government, and the general public. Antron described his

For instance, Ehrhart begins to realize that the war was a huge mistake on the government s behalf. Ehrhart believed that the government shouldn t have taken part in the Vietnamese war due to the innocent deaths that developed over the years. Many of the soldiers, including Ehrhart, were traumatized by the killings during the war. Ehrhart often questions the events that take place during the war. For example, when Ehrhart witnessed innocent civilians being killed from both Korea and America. In war, Ehrhart, was taking part in some of the killings because of a kill first and ask questions later mentality. Reflecting on that mentality is what lead Ehrhart towards the notion... The police didn t give a reasonable warning, but insisted on beating civilians to death because the police didn t agree with the anti war members protest. For instance, Ehrhart describes that one woman was being beaten to death by a police officer and Ehrhart tackled the police officer to the ground (Ehrhart 166). A man had to help Ehrhart drag the woman to safety after the woman was saved from being beaten to death. Another event that showed the effects of the anti war movement well after Ehrhart returned from the war was when Ehrhart was at another anti war protest. Ehrhart was explaining to the public why he decided to go against the war. Ehrhart explained that he couldn t support something so pointless (Ehrhart 177). Ehrhart believed the government had made the people believe that they were trying to stop the vast spread of communism. Ehrhart believed that the government was lying and that President Nixon wanted to start and win another war (Ehrhart 169). Ehrhart often expressed his anti war movement views to his crew mate, Roger. When talking to Roger, Ehrhart explains his theory on why he feels lied to by the government. Ehrhart explained to Roger that Vietnam is nothing but a way for the United States to express their dominance and control. For example Ehrhart says, what we want is freedom to do business on our own terms and as much of the damned pie we can grab (Ehrhart 181).

On December 25th, people open gifts, eat a hearty meal, and usually attend some type of religious ceremony. However, the population may be surprised to find that their just perception is wrong. These hot spots are an area in the mantle from which heat rises as a thermal plume from deep in the Earth. Under these spots, a molten material called magma is underneath the crust of the Earth and penetrates it. Magma can cause and therefore turn into steam or hot water. People collect this steam or water by putting steel pipes in the hotspot and then connect the pipe to a power plant on the surface. So, the power plant uses the steam or water into using it to make a steam turbine move ( Geothermal Energy Basics 2017). The steam or water turns into a vapor and then pushes the steam turbine in order to collect the warm energy. Some pros to using geothermal energy is that since its source is the almost unlimited amount of heat generated by the Earth s core, it will never run out. Another pro is that it can create jobs because someone is going to have to work in the power plants. And that using geothermal energy is very efficient (300 500% compared to 90% of the best furnaces) (Michaelides 2017). But, there are also cons. One con is that in order to get the steel pipes to suck up the heat, it uses energy in the process. Also, in a bad scenario, geothermal power plants can cause earthquakes. In order for countries to use geothermal energy, they must have money to build several power plants, and must utilize any hot

Software Patent Law Essay Software Patent Law A patent can be defined as a legal document granted by the government giving an inventor the exclusive right to make, use, and sell an invention for a specified number of years. 1 These special rights are given to the inventor as a means of incentive to further advance technology. The origins of patents are unknown, though the distinction of the longest continuous patent system belongs to Great Britain. The British patent system originated in the 15th century, when the Crown first started dealing with the granting of privileges to manufacturers and traders. The earliest known British patent was issued in 1449 for a method of making stained glass.2 Since those medieval beginnings, patent law has grown and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How do U.S. and European policies affect the global perspective on patenting software? In the sections that follow, the policies of the U.S. and Europe will be analyzed to see how these ethical questions may be answered. Background Information: Governing Bodies Up until recent times, the organization of the global patent system has simply been that each country has their own patent laws and offices. These offices deal with their own domestic patent filings, as well as those of foreigners seeking protection against infringement in that particular country. Manufacturers have come to embrace the idea of distributing their goods to the world market; so as globalization grows, so does the need for international patents. In 1973, thirteen European countries signed the European Patent Convention (EPC), with the objective of developing a uniform patent system (the European Patent Organisation) in order to make patent protection in Europe easier and less costly. Four years later, the European Patent Office (EPO) was founded as the executive branch of the Organisation. The EPO currently has twenty seven member countries, and is still expecting more to join. Though the EPO does include all fifteen members of the European Union (EU), it is important to note that the EPO is not governed by the EU.3 Each country still maintains its own patent office and applies its own laws. However, since the goal of the EPO is to harmonize
  • 9. Legalist Qin Dynasty The Period of the Warring States was a time of turmoil and unrest in Chinese history. It started during the decline of the Zhou Dynasty in 479 BCE and lasted until 221 BCE. The 100 Chinese states fought and conquered one another, until the state of Qin triumphed over the rest and formed the Qin Dynasty. Some of the largest effects that came from the Period of the Warring States were the forming of the Legalist Qin Dynasty, the spread and adoption of Confucianist ideas, and the influence of the Daoist philosophy on Chinese society. After the chaos ended, the Legalist Qin Dynasty proved an effective, but short lived approach to governing the Chinese society. Laozi and other sages wrote the main Daoist literary work, the Daodejing, which educated disciples of Daoism on the main topics of the philosophy. The Daodejing contained the most basic principles of Daoism, such as dao and wuwei. In addition to this, Daoism had a great effect on Chinese culture and art. After Daoism was prevalent in the Warring States time, many art pieces depicted nature as a huge, vast being and humans as small, powerless to nature s forces. This was a main concept of Daoism, which was centered around disengaging so nature can control one s life and make it harmonious. Another concept of Daoism that lingered in Chinese society is the pairing of yin and yang. Yin and yang represent two opposite forces that perfectly balance, creating the perfect symbiotic relationship. Balance and peace were very important concepts in Daoism, and this relationship symbolized the harmony that could occur when two forces were perfectly matched. Yin and yang also inspired art works and scenes in movies, such as the film Hero. One famous disciple of Daoism was Zhuangzi. Zhuangzi was credited with writing one of the famous and foundational Daoist works, the Zhuangzi. It consisted of fables and anecdotes about the carefree nature of Zhuangzi as the

Florence s Market in the Renaissance THESIS STATEMENT During the Renaissance, Florence profited from a mercantile economy due to the guilds, the quality and variety of goods and the style and management of the market place. PURPOSE STATEMENT Through historical and economic data this research paper will express how Florence flourished from a mercantile economy in the Renaissance. INTRODUCTION The Renaissance was the rebirth of Europe and it all started in the city of Florence. (Brucker 84) Young merchants were encouraged to travel abroad at a young age so they can become familiar with the region because later in life they would have to make a decision to either stay in their home city or go live in a foreign city. Although luxury goods continued to be imported from the Far East, merchants wanted to produce exotic goods, such as silk cloth, within Europe (Langley 17). Most merchants chose to live abroad because there was more business than in their home city but were required to send the money back to their own city. Apprentices were young people in a profession. If they wanted to make their profession their life they had to join a guild and become someone s apprentice. When you were and apprentice you usually had to do small jobs for example getting paint ready if you were a painter, but as the years progressed you might be able to add the finishing touches to your masters work. • 19. The Yield Spread Of A Corporate Bond And A Comparable... 2. Literature review The yield spread is defined as the difference between the yield on a corporate bond and a comparable government bond. Prior to a study done by Merton (1974) yield spreads were considered to be mainly driven by expected default losses on corporate bonds, tax premiums and risk premiums (Radier et al, 2015). However, Merton (1974) and more recent research has shown that factors such as equity volatility, liquidity, interest rate levels and the slope of the treasury term structure are also significant factors in determining changes in the yield spread (Radier et al, 2013; Lepone Wong, 2009; Peter Grandes, 2007; Collin Dufresne, Goldstein Martin, 2001). 2.1 Equity Volatility One of the three factors which Merton (1974) found to be a significant determinant of the yield spread was the probability of default as indicated by the firm specific equity volatility on the stock market. Merton (1974) predicted a positive relationship between equity volatility and the yield spread. According to Merton (1974), a short put option on the equity of a company is equivalent to a corporate bond issued by that company. This means that any individual corporate bond yield should have a positive relationship with the equity value of the firm (Jubinski Lipton, 2012). Radier et al (2015); Hibbert et al (2011); Campbell Taksler (2004) all find evidence supporting Merton (1974) s prediction of a positive relationship. Radier et al (2015) is the only one of these studies

  • 22. The Blind Side Symbolic Interactionism Analysis Symbolic Interactionism Perspective In The Blind Side, Michael was raised in the projects of Memphis, Tennessee. One evening after a basketball game Leigh Anne Touhy notices Michael walking down the road, shivering in the cold. After having her husband stop the car to speak to him, she had learned Michael had planned to sleep at the school gym after everyone else had left. Leigh Anne offered Michael a warm place to sleep at her and her family s home. This moment between these two was Michael s first real feeling of family. This sparked the relationship that would give him a reason to keep living and gave him something to live for. Leigh Anne continued to include Michael in family gatherings which only enhanced the motherly feeling Michael got from her. The symbolic interactionismtheory relies on the symbolic meaning that people develop and rely upon the process of social interaction. With this theory, the reality is seen as social, developed interaction with others. Most symbolic interactionists believe a physical reality does indeed exist by an individual s social definitions, and that socially develop in relation to something that is real. To simply state it, symbolic interactionism is the way we earn to interpret and give meaning to the world through our interactions with others. Through Michael and Leigh Anne s interactions, they formed a very strong bond. This bond was equal to the role of a mother son relationship where Leigh Anne cared for Michael just as she did for her biologic children. She helped him to better himself and his life throughout the entire movie. With the motherly support from Leigh Anne, Michael was able to go forth and make something of himself. Another example of Symbolic Interaction Theory in this movie occurs when the teachers at Wingate converse about Michael s academic performance. Four teachers are sitting around a table in a conference room talking about how they always hate when admissions allow students to attend their private school, who they can t help. They are just setting him up to fail, they say. The teachers think that Michael is not even the least bit intelligent and will fail their classes. In the years before Michael was allowed into private school, he had

A glacier can be on land or floating. Thick, floating glaciers are referred to as ice shelves. Ice streams are channels in which ice flows much faster than the ice surrounding it. Reaction of Glaciers to Environmental Change Glacial flow is the primary cause of differentiation between glaciers in their growth and retreat. Broadly, glacial change happens simultaneously with similar rates of development. Occasionally, random fluctuations seem to occur, as can be found in rock records from the Pleistocene epoch, where continental ice sheets were subject apparent random growth and retreat, (Cuffey Paterson, 2010). The most direct influence on the progress of a glacier is climate. A change in climate has the obvious direct effect of melting ice or depositing more snow, these processes are called the mass balance. A

  • 33. The Importance of Extracurricular Activities The struggle is real. Maintaining the three most important aspects of teenage life grades, sleep, and social life is hard enough, but when you throw in the stress of having to add more onto your plate for a better future, it can be almost suffocating. It is possible to only have to worry about making the top grades to be automatically admitted into a college and then you re free from having to add more to your plate, but does that have lasting benefits like branching out into extracurriculars does? Being smart can only take a person so far in life. Learning skills like time management, organization, and leadership are vital to a person s success in the future; all of which can be learned through the experiences that extracurriculars provide. Therefore, being involved in extracurricular activities can prove to have stronger and a broader spectrum of benefits than solely focusing on grades. Extracurriculars teach students lessons that will last them a lifetime, not a semester. Students who have active lives learn very quickly how to manage their time (Kelley). This is true because students learn organizational skills from having to wisely budget their time (Kelley). The student that sits at home every night simply studying and doing their work to make the best grades, learn only the words written on the paper. As for the student that spends every day at after school practices, meetings, and going to events on the weekends, they learn from the experiences they have.

Chemical The most common source of heat for the purpose of firefighting comes from chemical reactions. When something burns, it is the result of a chemical reaction where heat is being released. Pyrolysis is the decomposition or transformation of a compound caused by heat. (Coleman, et al. 81) Mechanical The mechanical source of heat deals the heat that is created from friction. Friction is a resistive force that occurs from the rubbing or compression of materials. For firefighters, this source of fire is seen mostly in industrial machinery (Coleman, et al. 81). Electrical An electric current exists when there is a net flow of charge through a given area. Electrons flow from the negatively charged region to the positively charged region. This is usually accomplished by using an electrical conductor which allows the electrons to pass freely through the material (Serway, et al. 709). This flow of electrons can generate heat when collisions between the molecules and electrons occur. These collisions then cause the molecules to break apart thus releasing heat. Some common examples of electrical energy are lightning, static electricity, and wiring outlets (Coleman, et al. 82). For the wildland firefighter, lightning is probably the

By 1863, Lincoln called for a new birth of freedom for a nation that was conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. 2 In 1865, Lincoln moves further, turning the Civil War almost into the epic good versus evil battle described by the Bible. God had willed that slavery would end, and to achieve that purpose he sent Abraham Lincoln and the other men of the Union to implement his will upon the South. Lincoln, in his 1865 Inaugural Address, basically argues that although the South and North both pray for the same God, the South does not understand what God wills. The South, stuck in its ignorant ways, has perverted the word of God to allow for the enforcement of slavery. Some would say that honor is a thing of the past; a thing long since extinct with the King Arthur and the knights of the round table. In fact, it is not, it is real and can still be seen all around through people all the time. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities, honor and dishonor are main themes that are exemplified and enacted through many characters. To be honorable, or to act in honor, is to act in a way that is not necessarily socially acceptable, but is morally right, noble, and kind. To be dishonorable is to neglect the basic responsibility of treating every human being in the respectful manner they deserve, giving no variance to rank or status. Throughout the book different men show varying degrees of honor and dishonor. One such man was Charles Darnay, who, throughout the entire novel, was a prime example of honor and merit. In the early part of the novel, Darnay pays a visit to his oppressive uncle who was a French Marquis, and responsible for the death and poverty of many of his subjects. Darnay went to the Marquis on behalf of those being oppressed by his family member; beseeching his uncle to have mercy and act with benevolence toward those peasants he disregarded so easily. Alice Walker s The Color Purple Set against the patriarchal backdrop of the Deep South with its norm of male dominance, Alice Walker s novel, The Colour Purple, maps the journey the protagonist, Celie, makes through patriarchal subservience toward self awareness and personal freedom. Walker uses an epistolary structure to record Celie s progress. A series of letters written to God and later, as a dialogic correspondence with her sister reveals Celie s growth and the power of communication. Celie s letters to Nettie are invisible; Nettie never sees them. They are a means through which Celie can chronicle her life and consider her responses to and understanding of the circumstances in which she finds herself. Writing the letters creates a sororal bond but like Celie s letters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Military Justice System The United States has a comprehensive and vigorously protected system for ensuring the rights of defendants in criminal trials conducted in the State and Federal courts. Among these protections are the right to an attorney, the right to remain silent in lieu of making self incriminating statements, the right to a trial by an impartial jury, the presumption of innocence, and the exclusion of evidence obtained in violation of the constitutional rights of the accused. The brave men and women of the United States armed forces have laid their lives on the line in defense of these rights and the others that we enjoy as American citizens, and yet they are systematically denied these same rights by the military justice system. The military justice system has two important components: The Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which is essentially the set of laws that govern military personnel, and the Manual for Courts Martial (MCM), which outlines the rules of procedure for courts martial and the military rules of evidence. While, on the surface, these documents appear to establish a system very similar to the civilian court system that most Americans are familiar

It claims he intends to create new taxes that will ultimately destroy families and small businesses by making it harder to afford the big items in life we all tend to strive for. With the use of pathos, ethos and logos, this ad creates emotional appeal with family matters and shows the character and credibility of Angelides vs Schwarzenegger. In the beginning the ad is in black and white with Angelides walking backwards. This is no doubt a metaphor for California taking a step backwards with Angelides as governer. The ad uses images of families and children to tap into our emotional view. Attempting to show people with families that with Angelides as governer, they will undoubtably be unable to support their families. Jib Fowles explains how images tap into our emotional appeal in his essay Advertising 15 basic appeals. He states Some few ads have their emotional appeal in the text but for the greater number by far the appeal is contained in the artwork. This makes sense, since visual communication better suits more primal levels of the brain. The ad uses these images to appeal to the viewers parental side, making the audience feel they need to
