The rest of that season leading up to the Class MM State Championship and the
State Open Championship went very smoothly. Confidence wise, this team was
unlike any other Tech School team that I had dealt with. They were, as I referred to
them, a blue color team and openly welcomed competition. Because, they were so
tough, both mentally as well as physically, I felt I could put them through a workout
two weeks before the Championship race that would hopefully give them the added
self confidence to climb one more step on the ladder of success. The workout that I
designed was similar to one that I had created and done myself in preparation for an

After the race and with only six days before the State Open Championships would
be held, Ellis Tech found themselves in a group of four teams that were predicted to
contend for the title. It was the first time a Tech School was in that position but,
more impressively, in order to accomplish that, they would have to defeat three
Class LL schools, Xavier, Manchester, and Fairfield Prep to do so. Being included
in a group with those other schools was very complimentary but it wouldn t help us
out on race day. Although every member of the team ran well, no one was able to
run as fast as they had just six days before in the Class Meet. When the dust settled,
Ellis Tech ended up in third place behind Manchester and Xavier which had finished
in first and second places. The only consolation with coming up just short was the
fact that for the first time ever, a Tech School would, by virtue of finishing in the top
six teams, qualify to compete at the New England Cross Country Championships in
Thetford, Vermont the following weekend.
The trip to Vermont in November proved to be challenging and for me personally
eye opening. It would be my first chance as a coach to compete at that level in high
school cross country and, almost sadly, I learned a valuable lesson about coaches and
their differing and sometimes distorted views regarding

This type of exposure to wilderness is merely an extension of the many desires that
are inherent in the American culture to which society is dependent. In other words,
wilderness has become part of the consumer society, the same society that deep
ecology claims to aim to reconceive. Guha refers to this as a consequence of
economic and political dominance. This dominance leads to wilderness being a
manifestation of American nationalism. Admittedly, the American national park

Pankhurst felt as though if women had the ability to vote then their would be
equal laws put in action. In The Importance of the Vote Pankhurst elaborates on
this further. She takes the issues that concern women that are controlled by men to
help get her point across, on how if women were allowed to vote it could change
for the better. Pankhurst mentions, We should have equal laws for divorce, and the
law should recognize that they have two parents (34). She talks about how when
parents are married, the mom is responsible for the child and the same goes for

employees and the manager and the patients and patents families. The Peds manager
s behavior I ve witnessed on Wednesday December 21st, is unacceptable and simply
will not be tolerated.
I cared for 5 patients the previous night. As shift change was approaching, 3 of the 5
asked me who will be the nurses working today. As I provided them with the answer,
the replies were shocking, to me! The parents of the 3 requested that they have
another nurse to care for them instead of Martha. My reply to them was we all aim
to provide excellent service. All three parents had similar responses to why they
didn t want Martha as their nurse. This goes to the VRMC s phrase What does

The Pacific Northwest Region Is A Good First Step
While we have been focusing on the whole Pacific Northwest region as a whole this
class, we have finally delved into a subregion that is close to all of us: the Inland
Empire. This area in the Pacific Northwest came into being during the late 19th
Century and encompassed much of Eastern Washington, the Idaho Panhandle and
parts of Eastern Oregon. The people of this region were very proud of their land and
some even held more pride for the Inland Empire than their own state. This fierce
loyalty to one s home was just as much a product of economic growth as many of the
