4. MEANING OF REFORMATION
Reformation , also called Protestant reformation,
religious revolution that took place in Western church in
the 16th century. Its greatest leaders undoubtedly were
Martin Luther and John Calvin.
Reformation is the act or process of improving
something by removing or correcting faults, problems and

5. WHERE AND WHEN DID REFORMATION
START?
The reformation is said to have begun when
Martin Luther posted his ninety – five theses on
the door of castel church in Wittenberg,
Germany , on October 31, 1517.
6. WHO IS MARTIN LUTHER?
Martin Luther OSA was a German professor of
theology, priest, author, composer, former
Augustinian monk, and best known as a seminal
figure in the protestant reformation and as the
namesake of lutheranism.
Luther was ordained to the priesthood in 1507.
8. SOME OF KEY FIGURES OF REFORMATION
Martin Luther – who precipitated the reformation with his
critiques of the both the practices and the theology of the
Roman Catholic church.
John Calvin – was the most important figure in the second
generation of reformation and his interpretation of
christianity known as Calvinism, deeply influenced many
areas of protestant thought.
9. SOME OF THE FIGURES OF REFORMATION
Pope Leo X – who excommunicated Luther.
Charles V. - the holy Roman emperor , who essentially
declared war on protestantism.
Henry Vlll – king of England, who presided over the
establishment of an independent church of England and;
Huldrych Zwingli – a Swiss reformer.
