This document summarizes a study on using natural fibrous materials like sisal fiber and areca husk fiber as filter media to treat domestic wastewater. Column studies were conducted with the fibers at different depths and flow rates to determine the maximum removal efficiency. The study found that a depth of 40cm and flow rate of 10ml/min provided the highest removal efficiency for both fibers. Sisal fiber achieved slightly higher removal rates than areca husk fiber for turbidity, chloride, BOD, TDS and TSS. The maximum removal occurred within 60 minutes, indicating these natural fibers can effectively treat domestic wastewater in a cost effective and sustainable manner.
