The Kapiti Primary Recycling Group was assigned a project by Mrs. Williams to help keep their school clean by organizing a recycling program. They had several meetings with the local waste management engineer, principal, and teachers to develop a plan and get supplies for recycling bins in each classroom. The group also reached out to the local newspaper to help spread awareness of their new recycling initiative at the school.

2. We are working on a recycling project for our school. This is our progress ...

3. Mrs Williams assigned us a project to keep Kapiti Primary clean. First we organised a meeting with the Water and Waste Engineer from the Kapiti Coast District Council, Aldrin Abad. He gave us some information about recycling and what is and is not recyclable. We told him what we had planned so far and then he gave us some advice on our plan. We asked him if he could help us in anyway. He has given us the bins and cost us $75

4. After our meeting with Aldrin we wrote a report about what happened and what he told us. In our report we also came up with a new plan regarding what Aldrin said. Next we had a meeting with Mr Conner, we gave him our report and told him what we planned to do. He explained what types of recycling we have in school, and what we yet need to find out. Mr Connor has provided us with the pool area to store the bins and the compost heap

5. We have asked Mr Maclean to help us set up a compost area for food scraps. We have had a meeting with him. He has supplied us with a compost bin. We will be putting a recycling bin and a food scrap bin in each class room this afternoon. The paper in the bins MUST be flat.

6. We have sent an e-mail to the Kapiti Coast District Council inquiring about the size of the bins that we are receiving from them. The bins are 70 Litres and can hold up to 58 bottles. He told us also that we could not use Wheelie bins as they would not get picked up by the recycling truck

7. We now have the bins in our possession and have had a meeting with Margaret Erving, Photographer/journalist for Kapiti Observer.

8. We have recently sent a letter to the Kapiti Observer to describe what we have done. We have done a lot of work on this and hope you co-operate with what we have put in place. Thanks for listening
