To Hiring Supervisor:
I am writing to recommend Jana Muma for a learning and development leadership position at
your organization. I had the privilege of supervising and working very closely with Jana at Grace
Hill, Inc. for six years, so I fully understand her talents and capabilities.
Jana served as Grace Hill’s first ever Director of Learning and Development. She was hired to
expand and elevate our company’s training capabilities at a time when we were experiencing
explosive growth. Her contributions to our organization are significant and numerous.
With two decades of training leadership under her belt, Jana is one of our industry’s most
accomplished and respected educators. Jana puts her in the trenches training perspective to
use in identifying ways we can better serve our multifamily customers. She helped us to expand
our existing online training course catalog to include new titles and delivery methods. And, she
has created numerous valuable new offerings.
Here are some of Jana’s most notable contributions to Grace Hill’s learning and development
efforts:
o Jana created a brand new our webinar series, Let’s Talk Training. These
webinars are ‘train-the-trainer’ offerings for multifamily learning and development
professionals. Jana serves as the content creator, producer, and on-air talent for
the webinars. It’s a significant undertaking that has proven to be extremely
valued by our clients and prospects and has elevated our reputation in the
marketplace.
o Jana has directed the educational offerings at our hugely successful annual client
conference since it’s inception five years ago. This three-day event is a series of
learning and development seminars, keynote speakers, and networking events,
and is critically important to our relationship with our VIP clients. Jana has
selected speakers, defined the seminar offerings, overseen content created by
others, developed and facilitated sessions, and contributed to all conference
design and planning. Clients report that the event is among the best conferences
they have ever attended.
o Jana brainstormed and brought to life a program to honor, reward and educate
hard-working service professionals across the industry called Maintenance
Appreciation Month. Multifamily owner/managers are invited to submit nominees
for recognition as ‘Maintenance Rock Stars.’ Jana directs a committee that
reviews the nominations and selects winners for daily recognition. She also plans
maintenance-related education and promotion that takes place all month long.
Her creative vision, coupled with outstanding project management and diligent
efforts, brought this concept from idea to hugely successful reality.
o Jana initiated the development of an industry-specific survey known as the
Multifamily Training Benchmark Report. Participating training directors share
information on their learning and development efforts including budgets and
2. spend on various activities such as instructor-led training, online training,
webinars, mobile applications, learning management systems, staffing levels for
their training department, and more. Jana analyzes the data, compares it to data
from years past, and produces a thorough report and white paper that provides
invaluable insight into the inner workings of multifamily training departments.
Industry training leaders treasure the Benchmark Report for it’s one-of-a-kind
glimpse into their peers’ training efforts.
Additionally, Jana has many strengths that make her a highly successful training leader. She is
an outspoken advocate for excellence throughout our organization and has played an
instrumental role in our company’s positive culture. She demands and develops quality in every
aspect of her work life. She initiated many internal programs to improve our business and
workplace. For example, at Jana’s urging, the company embraced a new Employee Recognition
program in early 2015. Jana proposed, designed, implemented and managed the entire
initiative, which had a significant positive impact on employee morale. Company leadership and
her colleagues alike respect Jana for working tirelessly to make ours a rewarding place to work.
She is a self-motivated, reliable, and extremely industrious leader. She is creative and energetic
and is constantly taking on new projects of her own initiation. Better still, she sees such projects
through to the finish line. She works tirelessly to secure and maintain Grace Hill’s position as a
thought leader in both the multifamily and training and development space. She receives high
praise from attendees when she speaks at industry conferences including the NMHC HR Forum
and Multifamily Housing Brainstorming Sessions. She is knowledgeable, passionate, and
generous, and her plate is always overflowing with projects – which is just the way she likes it.
Jana has been a tremendous asset to Grace Hill. I have been extremely satisfied with her
performance and contributions to our success. If I may provide any further information or
answer any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kara Rice
