This document provides four strategies for carefully reading texts: 1) Make predictions about the text before reading based on titles, headings and images; check predictions as reading progresses. 2) Summarize the main ideas of paragraphs or sections in one or two sentences. 3) Generate questions for each summarized main idea. 4) Clarify any unknown words or unclear phrases by rereading, using context clues, or looking words up; ask others for help if needed.
