Research is the generation of knowledge through systematic processes and methods. There are three main types of research: qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods. Researchers follow standard procedures including developing a research question, reviewing existing literature, selecting an appropriate methodology and methods for data collection, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings. The research process typically involves 10 steps from identifying a need or problem, developing a topic and question, conducting a literature review, selecting methods and participants, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting results. Reading research generally follows the IMRaD structure of introduction, methods, results, and discussion.
