Donovan Hill 's Queensland State Library
This essay will discuss Donovan Hill's Queensland State Library; it's relationship to their
architectural style and its involvement with the community by using diagrams and discussion.
Donovan Hill is a Brisbane based firm established in 1992. Their style highlights the value in
creating smaller individual experiences throughout the spatial programming whilst also not being
governed by climate but using it to their advantage. Donovan Hill is well known for their design of
the outdoor room in C–House and this design is precedent for spaces in the Queensland State
Library. Donovan Hill follows the International Style and address the three principals outlined by
Hitchcock and Johnson in their book The International Style. They find balance ... Show more

Funded by the Queensland State Government with a budget of 76 million dollars the library was
designed in conjunction with Peddle Thorp, in 2007 it won five RAIA awards; the Sir Zelman
Cohen award for public architecture (national), the Emily Soderston award for interior architecture
(national), the FDG Stanley award for Public Buildings(QLD), Regional Building of the
year(Brisbane) and a regional commendation for public architecture. The original building on the
site 10,000sqm, this space was completely redesigned and then an additional 12,000sqm was added
to the structure. The briefing and design process spanned a large and complex client group
incorporating community and indigenous consultation. Donovan Hill needed to design a structure
with a multitude of uses, this culminating in over 1000 individual spaces throughout the building.
Aside from the main use of storing the library's permanent collection, Donovan Hill had to create an
Indigenous Resource Centre, flexible rooms for a variety of private and public events; "[the building
required] a broad array of new specialist components including: an Indigenous Knowledge Centre,
climate controlled repositories, 300 seat auditorium, international standard exhibition gallery, cafés,
business/conference centre and an informal peoples gallery." They needed to create a habitable
learning hub for a broad range of people, including students, the elderly and people from a broad
range of cultures. The library needed to

Similarities Between Mccandless And Chris Donovan
I'm covering all on the writers and how they are similar to one another in writing. The writers Jon
Krakauer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thoreau, Donovan all share similarities of how they write their
stories. They all have ways they express themselves in writing for example Donovan's poem "it's
all–on–me." The poem relates to Jon Krakauer about the story "into the wild." Chris Mccandless
was a great hitchhiker that always believed in himself and loved nature. He states, "The very basic
man's living spirit is his spirit for adventure." It's similar in a way for becoming passionate with
nature and himself relating to the poem. Chris Mccandless is a great man of nature and self reliance
reflecting upon the poem as well. Ralph Waldo Emerson's

Psy 270 Week 5 Case Study Donovan
For starters, one of the first measures that I would use as a means to intervene with Donovan would
be something as simple as a phone call. According to the text, this is something that should be
approached with caution, simply because, the client feeling that they are there for a quick fix,
become lax, and wait for the clinician to pass judgement (Miller, Forechimes, & Zweben, 2011).
With this taken into consideration, I would gradually start to introduce the basic screening questions
and set up an appointment time and location so that Donovan and I can meet and get this process
started. I feel like with this particular approach it would more than likely provide him with the
motivation to participate in the evaluation process. Would you agree? ... Show more content on

This particular criteria maps out the "pattern of amphetamine–type substance, cocaine, or other
stimulant use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as manifested by at least two of
the criteria occurring within a 12–month period" (DSM V, 2013). Based on that previous statement
Donovan would be classified as the perfect candidate under criteria four which is craving, or the
strong desire or urge to use the stimulant. The example that I can provide to support this is Donovan
deems it necessary to use cocaine in order to complete multiple tasks. Six on the other hand, goes

Donovan Alcohol Consumption
Donovan, in 2004 made an endeavor to build up a correspondence system keeping in mind the end
goal to diminish the alcohol–related problems in adolescents and young adults. In his report, the
unnecessary utilization has been associated with episodic drinking and the two ideas are alluded to
as "at least a mild level of intoxication so as to lessen cognitive functioning and motor control". This
definition constructs the examination with respect to the effect of liquor instead of the units
consumed. On the premise of adequate writing survey, the investigation of Donovan (2004), the
variables behind drinking start at a beginning period and the drinking among youthful populace was
very little not the same as those of the inclining, situational and empowering factors that continue in

An illustration was made with the explanation that factors behind the onset of consumption at 13
years include novelty associated with alcohol use, curiosity and the significance of psychological
development regarding alcohol consumption among young adults. This implies that drinking is
considered as an adult behavior and part of the adolescence development. Various studies have
evaluated the factors and predictors associated with the alcohol consumption among adults. Some of
them have defined clear differentiation of forecasters about normal or moderate consumption from
those related to the misuse or excessive consumption. Donovan (2004) state that the factors which
lead to consumption initiation at an early age are similar to those which facilitate further
development of drinking habit, addiction, and excessive consumption. The cultural variations also
affect the way in which health, drinking and the associated problems with drinking are addressed
and perceived. The research is required to assess the effect of cultural variations for planning and

Tara Donovan Plastic Cups
Tara Donovan creates large–scale installations and sculptures made from mass–produced, mundane,
everyday material and objects. She has earned acclaim for her ability to discover the inherent
characteristics of an object and completely transforming their original context, turning it into art.
These objects evolve to become sculptural installations that mimic natural forms. Untitled (Plastic
Cups), 2006 is a piece of work which" comprises of 500,000 drinking cups that are methodically
prepared in a formula of varying stacked heights." Tara Donovan made use of plastic cups that

Bill Donovan was the greatest spy ever. When Bill Donovan was born his name was chosen to be
William Joseph O' Donovan. But as years went on he started to go by Bill Donovan, his family had

Jack Donovan Foley
Jack Donovan Foley is the creator of what is known today as "Foley art," which is a sound
technique that is still used to this day. He was born in Yorkville, New York on April 12, 1891 and
died on November 9, 1967. During these times he worked as a general order clerk on the New York
docks. He moved to California in 1914 and pursued a job as a double and stunt man. This is where
he met his lifelong love. During World War 1, Jack and his wife moved to Bishop, California where
Jack served his country by becoming a part of The American Defense Society.
Needing a new source of income after World War 1, he landed a job at a local hardware store. While
working at the hardware store, a little theater peaked his interest and he started writing articles for
the local newspaper. The farmers in his new hometown of Bishop started selling their land to the
city of Los Angeles, which caused the town to face a very unpromising future. He convinced several
studio bosses that his new town was an ideal place to shoot westerns, and he got the filmmakers to
the area. From there he became a location scout for quite a few production companies, such as,
Warner Bros. and Universal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis of the Bay Delta Conservation Plan with Donovan Rose
Water control in California has always been problematic. Long drafts and severe floods show the
coming of the state's and world's changing climate regional differences in water existence and
demand for water. "A vast network of storage and conveyance facilities delivers water from the
wetter parts of the state to population and farming centers in the Bay area, Southern California and
the Sun Joaquin Valley. This network is now threatened by the physical and biological fragility of
the system's hub in the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta." (2015) California is also living through one
of the worst droughts in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Climate change will have a great impact on the future of the world, let alone deltas. California
natural inconsistency looks like it is going to increase, bringing fourth constant droughts and floods.
It is expected that rising air temperatures will significantly reduce the Sierra Nevada snowpack,
which will affect water custody as well as winter and spring flood flows. In addition, increasing
temperatures of the water throughout the area may make taking care of aquatic habitats for native
fish species much more difficult. After some time, all of these challenges are expected to escalate in
magnitude. Government pioneers likewise bear an obligation to guarantee against the danger of
significant water supply interruptions. We must shield the delta water conveyance framework from
seismic tremor, ocean level ascent and levee–busting water surges. Potential resolution calls for
difficult and sometimes highly priced trade–offs together with inconvenient legal and political
changes. The California Department of Water Resources, the Bureau of Reclamation, State and
Federal Fish agencies and State and Federal Water Agencies have proposed a fix of systems within
to ensure a more efficient, eco–friendly flow of fresh water throughout. The proposal is called the

Donovan Implications
We laugh about the person who says, 'I know I'm right; don't confuse me with arguments'. And yet
there are times when we find ourselves wanting to say that too. For there are situations in which we
feel sure that we know something, even though if asked to give a good argument to back up our
claim we are at a loss to know quite how to do so. 'I know you're the person I spoke to on the bus
yesterday.' 'I know I have two hands.' 'I know it is wrong to let that child starve.' 'I know that six
minus four leaves two.' Our experience of being confident that we are right in cases like those is
often called intuition. Intuitive knowing seems to be a direct, convincing way of knowing, which
needs no further argument. And it is a perfectly ordinary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He is keen to point out that it is not a type of argument ('direct') and that it is very hard to doubt it
('convincing'). By defining intuition in this way Donovan is treating it as a possibly genuine way to
gain knowledge, distinct from intellectual argument.
Finally, Donovan asks the question, 'are there such things as intuitions in religious matters too?' This
is his key question. Given that he accepts that intuition works on some level he wants to know
whether it can be extended to also work on matters of religion, such as whether God exists and if so,
what he is like. Donovan wants to explore whether religious experience can be a basis for intuitive
knowledge of God. This is unlike Swinburne's argument from religious experience where the
conclusion 'God exists' is deduced from premises. Instead it is not an argument at all, but an
immediate apprehension of knowledge of God from experience of God.
These are the three key aspects of Donovan's argument in the above passage. Whilst there are no
secondary points to explain the section does link to several key debates in the philosophy of
religion. Firstly, in discussing whether religious intuition exists Donovan is contributing to the
debate over whether God exists. In addition to philosophers such as Swinburne and Paley, Donovan
is offering the possibility of an alternative way to gain objective knowledge of God/that he exists –

Ralph Waldo Emerson, Jon Krakauer, And Michael Donovan
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Jon Krakauer, and Michael Donovan are four similar
writers. These four writers typically write about their individuality and depending on themselves. In
Michael Donovan's poem, "Its All–On–Me", he talks about how everything is on him, and how he
has to handle everything. Emerson's short story, Self–Reliance, talks about the conviction of a man's
beliefs at some point in his life and how he must deal with them. Civil Disobedience by Henry
David Thoreau is another short story about how government should play a smaller role in the
decisions of the people. Lastly, Jon Krakauer's Into the Wild, is about a man attempting to survive in

Reconciliation: A Fictional Narrative
A small child crying teased her subconscious as it sliced through the silence of the early morning
hour. Just on the fringes of reality, it kept a constant litany. In her drowsy state, she thought, could it
be? Stranger things had happened lately, but this was something entirely new, never heard before.
Another round of whimpering jolted Casey out of a deep, peaceful sleep. She moved to a sitting
position on the edge of the bed, brushing the hair out of her eyes and checked the time on the
bedside clock–3:00 a.m. Knowing this would sound insane to anyone listening, she called out to the
darkness. "Kelly? Baby, is that you? Please, don't cry. Mommy's here. Where are you? I can't see

three days have been the longest three days I have ever spent. I counted each day off on the calendar
wishing that time would speed up, and you'd already be here." Ray wrapped his arm around her
waist pulling her close and looked deep into her eyes. "I promise I will not stay away that long
again. From now on it will be overnight stays at best. So tell me what you've have been up to the

The Success Of Michael Vick
Another reason Michael Vick rebuilt his image after the dog fighting scandal of 2007 was that he
helped develop the Animal Fighting Speculation Prohibition Act. One way he did that was helping
craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they
brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. "We saw a great opportunity for
me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws"
(Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Back then, police would come
break up the fights, but no one would be arrested. Vick wanted to change that.

For instance, Philadelphia Eagles fans had mixed reactions with Vick's signing. Some supported
him, and others were very upset. For example, the owner of a sandwich shop vowed to never serve

in Philadelphia didn't want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted
felon ("Protester Again"). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as hard as he could on and off
the field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to
talk the talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One night, after Vick had a meeting
with James Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him, a reporter/sports writer followed
him onto the elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any drinks, and who he was talking to.
He did this all to try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). Vick was disturbed by this,
because it meant that some people hated him so much that they would go that far out of their way
just to get rid of him. Andy Reid, the Eagles' coach at the time, took particular interest in Vick's
recovery because he had two sons imprisoned in 2007 for drug abuse. He knew what it was like
seeing all those men in prison throwing their lives away. Vick received advice and help from Coach

The Hunt By Josephine Donovan
Unlike animals, humans are able to observe past the mere monochromatic vision of survival. We
have an impeccable ability to desire more than just living to breed, and breeding only to someday
perish. Thus, we gradually brush this canvas with the colours of ethics, control, and knowledge.
Whether the colours fade or become prominent through time, this canvas becomes our perception of
normality and we allow it to justify our actions; favorable or harmful. We, as well as the narrator in
the short story The Hunt by Josephine Donovan represent this. However, because of the narrator's
difference in perception, self–indulgence, and greed for power, the story introduces a feeling of
infuriation to the reader. The practice of killing an animal for food, trade or recreational activity has
been a fairly permanent and traditional aspect of our history. Even after animal domestication grew,
the approach of hunting to supply food was never abandoned. Hence, the idea of an animal's death is
very ordinary. Yet, when the narrator presents the idea of killing another human and hanging their
heads on his wall as a trophy, the concept is angering. It allows the readers to pose the question of
why we choose to have this double standard. From the birth of our existence, humans have been
killing one another. The reasons vary from family feuds, religious disagreement, to territorial gain.
Howbeit, no matter the scale of war, there is always an explanation connected to the act; killing for
thrill

Do Fans Put Too Much Pressure In Sports
Do Fans Put Too Much Pressure on Their Favorite Professional Teams?
Have you ever thought about professional athletes having so much pressure on themselves? In every
sport fans put so much pressure on their teams to win. But what you don't see is how the players feel
about it. Fans put too much pressure on their sports teams, but this couldn't be a problem if we make
a solution. Fans can put so much stress on players of their favorite professional teams. You might
not even realize the impact you are making. During the regular season of any sport is a long journey.
But then when your team makes it into the playoffs or championship the pressure gets even higher
on those players. "Is there ever really a time where fans should be sending death threats to any
athlete? Brandon Jacobs, a running back for the New York Giants, was sidelined the Giants opening
game this season with a hamstring injury. Because of this, he received a death threat." (Bocchino)
This is one of the best examples of how much pressure is on professional athletes. Fans sending
threats to make sure these players play good. After all these athletes are humans just like everyone
and should not be put in that situation. How should the professional team respond to fans that put
this pressure on their athletes? The best solution is to give them a warning or to not let them come to
their games anymore. It's the best way to be professional about it and so the players don't get hurt
from the situation. "For

Similarities Between Donovan And Henri Cartier Bresson
Possibly this was the time when Donovan launched a defiant break from the norm of the time when
establishing his close attention to detail, and his standards of glamour and elegance could be what
leads to Donovan being elevated to celebrity status. Donovan was one of the first famous
photographers, and became just as much well–known, as those people he photographed.
Born in 1908 Henri Cartier Bresson's career in the arts began at a young age, on viewing another
artist's work, he then discovers the medium of photography, which inspired him to become a
documentary photographer. His photography took him to places around the globe, such as the
United States, China, Japan and more. Street photography was capturing everyday life in a moment.

Most likely among the most popular and famous kind of meditation occurs to be transcendental

Reason Isaac Asimov Analysis
The story, "Reason" by Isaac Asimov is about two men name Powell and Donovan, who had built a
reason robot called QT–1. QT–1 is referred to as Cutie in the story. Cutie was built to work as a
director of solar station 5 so that humans would not have to stay up there for long. Powell and
Donovan began to get fearful of the robots when Cutie started believing in the "Master". Cutie
believed that Master created humans first because humans are the lowest type. Then the Master
created robots to be superior. Cutie convinced all the other robots to believe in the Master. The other
robots started calling Cutie the prophet. This brought fear to Powell and Donovan that the robots

I'll knock that chromium cranium right off its torso". Donovan automatically when to anger and

assumptions and how human's react in anger when someone does not agree with them. Powell and
Donovan had nothing to worry about. Cutie and his robots were going to do their jobs. The law of
robotics prevented the robots from taking over. The readers learn that as humans we should be more

Alicia Donovan 's My Life Essay
Alicia Donovan leans causally against the railing of her grandmother 's porch, smoldering cigarette
in hand, watching the cars and passerbys going up and down Mount Pleasant Avenue in Providence.
A beat up Chevrolet with blasting rap music slows down and Donovan exchanges good natured
insults with the four or five boys inside. Teasingly, she makes and obscene gesture and the car takes
off up the street, leaving the air thick with the distinct smell of muffler smoke and the fading strains
of DMX. As they disappear out of sight, she shakes her head and chuckles slightly, obviously struck
by some funny thought that she 's not about to share. Watching this nonchalant blonde, no one would
ever guess she carries the stigma of a childhood marked my tragedy and trauma. Alicia looks right at
home in front of the shabby, grey tenement which she shares with her grandmother, great
grandmother and aunt. Unlike most of the girls today, she 's not trying to be trendy or fashionable.
She has on a plain white T–shirt, worn from unsuccessful attempts to get out its numerous stains,
and a pair ofjeans which are slightly ripped in the knees. Turning her attention away from the view,
she runs her hands through her tousled hair and drops into one of the porch 's slightly rusted
aluminum chairs. "Well let 's do this," she says with a good natured shrug, "so whatcha got for me?"
Alicia wipes the trademark grin off her face and gains a serious, thoughtful expression as she begins

Patricia Donovan Deliver Her Summary
A Review of Deliver Her by Patricia Perry Donovan
In her introductory novel, Deliver Her, Patricia Perry Donovan turns the page in her writing career,
moving from journals and a concentration on non–fiction to something more creative and in novel
form. As the back cover of the book highlights, this composition is about "A daughter's grief. A
mother's desperation. An endless highway of deception." This book is easy to follow and not only
entertains but also leaves the reader with food for thought at the very end.
The author's audience is also clear from the back cover description and is sure to include mothers
and adolescent daughters alike. Some additional readers this novel would likely appeal to include
those struggling with grief over losing a loved one and people encountering or enabling addiction. It
is likely the audience will find the primary characters very easy to empathize with. They include the
mother, Meg, daughter, Alex, and Carl, a man the mother hires to "Deliver Her" daughter to Birches,
a remote, alternative–type school intended on resetting the path of troubled youth. Alex's troubles
began on the night of her 16th birthday party when her friend Cass dies in a car accident involving

The Life of Jean Donovan in Relation to Christ
Jean Donovan
On April 10, 1953, Patricia and Raymond Donovan bore a daughter, Jean, who would grow up to
serve as one of the most famous female American Missionaries to grace the modern world. Jean was
second in birth order to her brother, Michael, who would later inspire her in her divine missionary
work. The Donovan family resided in upper middle–class Westport, Connecticut where her father
provided a comfortable life as an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft Division for United Technologies
(IRTF).
Jean pursued a career in Business Administration and secured employment as a management
consultant for an accounting firm in Cleveland after receiving a degree in business administration

March 24, 1980 while leading an evening Mass. Soon after, an all night wake was held in memory
of his blessed life. During the wake, the El Salvadorian Government launched bombs into the
mourning crowd, killing 30. In conquering the trauma, Jean was greatly moved by this event and her
desire to walk in the path of God further strengthened. Jean was also motivated by St. Francis of
Assisi. Out of exhaustion, Jean took a six week vacation to reunite with her family in September of
that year. During this time, she confessed her fear of being killed on her mission and confided in
God for strength. Jean was clearly fearful of the violence in El Salvador, but through God, she
regained confidence and returned to El Salvador. Jean returned refreshed with the Holy Spirit. She
began to sweep the streets, feeding the hungry, consoling the worried, and strengthened the weak
through prayer and worship. Jean was filled with the Lord's Word and worked to share it with the
needy. Despite her positive spirit, the lurking danger and increasing violence slowly proved to be an
inevitable barrier against Jean in her remarkable mission.
Soon after her return, her feelings quickly changed from excitement and enlightenment of the Holy
Spirit to fear

on leadership. Each concept is different, however each one builds onto one another as the book
progresses. While reading this book, I took careful notes on each concept as well as how I could
incorporate each one into my own life. The first concept is mission. Campbell opens this chapter by

"Humility is not denying that we are good at or have done a good job on things." Campbell says that
if we do that then we lose a realistic view of ourselves, which is what humility really is. When trying
to think about how this could apply to my current life, the best example I thought of what working
on group projects in school. When I thought about Campbell's words and then applied them to that
situation, I felt I understood what he was saying. When working in a group, everyone has their
strengths and weaknesses. If I know that I could use one of my strengths to help the project, then
denying that I could do a good job will only hurt the team in the end. Instead, by utilizing that skill
properly, the team will benefit. and having a realistic view of the teams strengths, then we could all
use them to help the project. After reading Campbell's chapter on humility, I understood that
everyone acknowledging their own strengths and weaknesses is much better than everyone putting
themselves down to try to appear humble. The term "excellence" is daunting. If you asked me,
before I read this book, how I could achieve excellence daily, I would have told you simply: I can't.
Before reading the chapter about the third pillar of leadership, I thought that excellence was
something reserved only for great presidents, and people in the military

For starters, one of the first measures that I would use as a means to intervene with Donovan would

approached with caution, simply because, the client feeling that they are there for a quick fix,
become lax, and wait for the clinician to pass judgement (Miller, Forechimes, & Zweben, 2011).
With this taken into consideration, I would gradually start to introduce the basic screening questions

Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan
Christianity Rediscovered
Chapter One:
In the first chapter of "Christianity Rediscovered" by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the
idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says "History has offered
the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age". For a long time
a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have
diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be
the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In
today's age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health
and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work,
but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery
he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and
struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting.
Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery.
The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to save them
from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their
customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off

Who Is Vincent Donovan
Vincent Donovan was an out of the box thinker when he traveled to the Masai people in hopes to
spread the gospel in hopes that these people would become Christian. In this paper it will address
hindrance that Donovan faced, his views of Christology and soteriology in relation to the Christian
faith perspective, and my own views on how well I believe that Donovan portrayed Christianity.
One of the biggest hindrances for Donovan while dealing with the Masia was the culture difference
in how situations were handled. As stated by Donovan (1995) "with these Africans the purpose of
words is not to establish logical truth, but to set up social relationships with others." (p. 23)

He also ran the fear that if a majority of the community rejects Christianity then he would lose the
fence sitters to peer pressure to not believe in Christianity. As Donovan (1995) states "A
community...will act as a unit, accepting you or rejecting you together... it is not possible or
desirable to convert the Masai as individuals, but it is possible to evangelize them as groups."
A second hindrance for Donovan was getting the Masia people to listen to his preaching of
Christianity without receiving anything for it. The Masia people were very accustomed to
missionaries bringing things in order to bribe the people to accept Christianity. He was aware of this
set back from the beginning and how this shadows the true story of Jesus and what Christianity is
about at the core. Donovan made it clear at this first meeting with the people of his true intentions
while preaching.
Along the same lines of not listening to Donovan, making sure that the Masai had "a mind free of
preconceptions... there is no other way to deal with the subject that is so strange to us." (Donovan,
1995). This was hard to do because of the past history of the Catholic church coming to the Masai
people. Donovan had to fight the expectations they held of his visit and reset their minds to take in
the knowledge and information that Donovan wanted to teach.
The illiteracy of the Masai people deemed to also be a very big hindrance to Donovan. He had to

  • 3. Donovan Hill 's Queensland State Library This essay will discuss Donovan Hill's Queensland State Library; it's relationship to their architectural style and its involvement with the community by using diagrams and discussion. Donovan Hill is a Brisbane based firm established in 1992. Their style highlights the value in creating smaller individual experiences throughout the spatial programming whilst also not being governed by climate but using it to their advantage. Donovan Hill is well known for their design of the outdoor room in C–House and this design is precedent for spaces in the Queensland State Library. Donovan Hill follows the International Style and address the three principals outlined by Hitchcock and Johnson in their book The International Style. They find balance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Funded by the Queensland State Government with a budget of 76 million dollars the library was designed in conjunction with Peddle Thorp, in 2007 it won five RAIA awards; the Sir Zelman Cohen award for public architecture (national), the Emily Soderston award for interior architecture (national), the FDG Stanley award for Public Buildings(QLD), Regional Building of the year(Brisbane) and a regional commendation for public architecture. The original building on the site 10,000sqm, this space was completely redesigned and then an additional 12,000sqm was added to the structure. The briefing and design process spanned a large and complex client group incorporating community and indigenous consultation. Donovan Hill needed to design a structure with a multitude of uses, this culminating in over 1000 individual spaces throughout the building. Aside from the main use of storing the library's permanent collection, Donovan Hill had to create an Indigenous Resource Centre, flexible rooms for a variety of private and public events; "[the building required] a broad array of new specialist components including: an Indigenous Knowledge Centre, climate controlled repositories, 300 seat auditorium, international standard exhibition gallery, cafés, business/conference centre and an informal peoples gallery." They needed to create a habitable learning hub for a broad range of people, including students, the elderly and people from a broad range of cultures. The library needed to ... • 5. Similarities Between Mccandless And Chris Donovan I'm covering all on the writers and how they are similar to one another in writing. The writers Jon Krakauer, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Thoreau, Donovan all share similarities of how they write their stories. They all have ways they express themselves in writing for example Donovan's poem "it's all–on–me." The poem relates to Jon Krakauer about the story "into the wild." Chris Mccandless was a great hitchhiker that always believed in himself and loved nature. He states, "The very basic man's living spirit is his spirit for adventure." It's similar in a way for becoming passionate with nature and himself relating to the poem. Chris Mccandless is a great man of nature and self reliance reflecting upon the poem as well. • 7. Psy 270 Week 5 Case Study Donovan For starters, one of the first measures that I would use as a means to intervene with Donovan would be something as simple as a phone call. According to the text, this is something that should be approached with caution, simply because, the client feeling that they are there for a quick fix, become lax, and wait for the clinician to pass judgement (Miller, Forechimes, & Zweben, 2011). With this taken into consideration, I would gradually start to introduce the basic screening questions and set up an appointment time and location so that Donovan and I can meet and get this process started. I feel like with this particular approach it would more than likely provide him with the motivation to participate in the evaluation process. Would you agree? ... This particular criteria maps out the "pattern of amphetamine–type substance, cocaine, or other stimulant use leading to clinically significant impairment or distress, as manifested by at least two of the criteria occurring within a 12–month period" (DSM V, 2013). Based on that previous statement Donovan would be classified as the perfect candidate under criteria four which is craving, or the strong desire or urge to use the stimulant. The example that I can provide to support this is Donovan deems it necessary to use cocaine in order to complete multiple tasks. Six on the other hand, goes onto to provide clarity that "continued stimulant use despite having persistent or recurrent social or interpersonal problems caused or exacerbated by the effects of the stimulant. To support this theory it has been made known that Donovan and his wife are having issues because of his drug use. Last but not least, there is nine which goes into detail about stimulant use is continued despite knowledge of having persistent or recurrent physical or psychological problem that is likely to have been caused or exacerbated by the stimulant. • 9. Donovan Alcohol Consumption Donovan, in 2004 made an endeavor to build up a correspondence system keeping in mind the end goal to diminish the alcohol–related problems in adolescents and young adults. In his report, the unnecessary utilization has been associated with episodic drinking and the two ideas are alluded to as "at least a mild level of intoxication so as to lessen cognitive functioning and motor control". This definition constructs the examination with respect to the effect of liquor instead of the units consumed. On the premise of adequate writing survey, the investigation of Donovan (2004), the variables behind drinking start at a beginning period and the drinking among youthful populace was very little not the same as those of the inclining, situational and empowering factors that continue in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An illustration was made with the explanation that factors behind the onset of consumption at 13 years include novelty associated with alcohol use, curiosity and the significance of psychological development regarding alcohol consumption among young adults. This implies that drinking is considered as an adult behavior and part of the adolescence development. Various studies have evaluated the factors and predictors associated with the alcohol consumption among adults. Some of them have defined clear differentiation of forecasters about normal or moderate consumption from those related to the misuse or excessive consumption. Donovan (2004) state that the factors which lead to consumption initiation at an early age are similar to those which facilitate further development of drinking habit, addiction, and excessive consumption. The cultural variations also affect the way in which health, drinking and the associated problems with drinking are addressed and perceived. She has earned acclaim for her ability to discover the inherent characteristics of an object and completely transforming their original context, turning it into art. These objects evolve to become sculptural installations that mimic natural forms. Untitled (Plastic Cups), 2006 is a piece of work which" comprises of 500,000 drinking cups that are methodically prepared in a formula of varying stacked heights." Tara Donovan made use of plastic cups that usually go unnoticed as the sole purpose of plastic cups is to serve drinks. In my group project, we made use of another unnoticed everyday material, styrofoam. As this project I am dealing with styrofoam as my material I decided to use styrofoam cups in my experimenting instead of plastic cups. The limitation in this was that the materialistic features I could play with and manipulate was its opacity only unlike the plastic cups are transparent/translucent and allow light to pass through. In addition, increasing temperatures of the water throughout the area may make taking care of aquatic habitats for native fish species much more difficult. For there are situations in which we feel sure that we know something, even though if asked to give a good argument to back up our claim we are at a loss to know quite how to do so. 'I know you're the person I spoke to on the bus yesterday.' 'I know I have two hands.' 'I know it is wrong to let that child starve.' 'I know that six minus four leaves two.' Our experience of being confident that we are right in cases like those is often called intuition. Intuitive knowing seems to be a direct, convincing way of knowing, which needs no further argument. And it is a perfectly ordinary, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is keen to point out that it is not a type of argument ('direct') and that it is very hard to doubt it ('convincing'). By defining intuition in this way Donovan is treating it as a possibly genuine way to gain knowledge, distinct from intellectual argument. Finally, Donovan asks the question, 'are there such things as intuitions in religious matters too?' This is his key question. Given that he accepts that intuition works on some level he wants to know whether it can be extended to also work on matters of religion, such as whether God exists and if so, what he is like. Donovan wants to explore whether religious experience can be a basis for intuitive knowledge of God. This is unlike Swinburne's argument from religious experience where the conclusion 'God exists' is deduced from premises. Instead it is not an argument at all, but an immediate apprehension of knowledge of God from experience of God. These are the three key aspects of Donovan's argument in the above passage. Whilst there are no secondary points to explain the section does link to several key debates in the philosophy of religion. Firstly, in discussing whether religious intuition exists Donovan is contributing to the debate over whether God exists. In addition to philosophers such as Swinburne and Paley, Donovan is offering the possibility of an alternative way to gain objective knowledge of God/that he exists – ... One way he did that was helping craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. "We saw a great opportunity for me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws" (Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Also, protesters in Philadelphia didn't want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted felon ("Protester Again"). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as hard as he could on and off the field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to talk the talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One night, after Vick had a meeting with James Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him, a reporter/sports writer followed him onto the elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any drinks, and who he was talking to. He did this all to try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). • 31. The Hunt By Josephine Donovan Unlike animals, humans are able to observe past the mere monochromatic vision of survival. We have an impeccable ability to desire more than just living to breed, and breeding only to someday perish. Thus, we gradually brush this canvas with the colours of ethics, control, and knowledge. Whether the colours fade or become prominent through time, this canvas becomes our perception of normality and we allow it to justify our actions; favorable or harmful. We, as well as the narrator in the short story The Hunt by Josephine Donovan represent this. However, because of the narrator's difference in perception, self–indulgence, and greed for power, the story introduces a feeling of infuriation to the reader. The practice of killing an animal for food, trade or recreational activity has been a fairly permanent and traditional aspect of our history. Even after animal domestication grew, the approach of hunting to supply food was never abandoned. Hence, the idea of an animal's death is very ordinary. Yet, when the narrator presents the idea of killing another human and hanging their heads on his wall as a trophy, the concept is angering. It allows the readers to pose the question of why we choose to have this double standard. From the birth of our existence, humans have been killing one another. The reasons vary from family feuds, religious disagreement, to territorial gain. Howbeit, no matter the scale of war, there is always an explanation connected to the act; killing for thrill ... The Life of Jean Donovan in Relation to Christ Jean Donovan On April 10, 1953, Patricia and Raymond Donovan bore a daughter, Jean, who would grow up to serve as one of the most famous female American Missionaries to grace the modern world. Jean was second in birth order to her brother, Michael, who would later inspire her in her divine missionary work. The Donovan family resided in upper middle–class Westport, Connecticut where her father provided a comfortable life as an engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft Division for United Technologies (IRTF). During the wake, the El Salvadorian Government launched bombs into the mourning crowd, killing 30. In conquering the trauma, Jean was greatly moved by this event and her desire to walk in the path of God further strengthened. Jean was also motivated by St. Francis of Assisi. Out of exhaustion, Jean took a six week vacation to reunite with her family in September of that year. During this time, she confessed her fear of being killed on her mission and confided in God for strength. Jean was clearly fearful of the violence in El Salvador, but through God, she regained confidence and returned to El Salvador. Jean returned refreshed with the Holy Spirit. She began to sweep the streets, feeding the hungry, consoling the worried, and strengthened the weak through prayer and worship. Jean was filled with the Lord's Word and worked to share it with the needy. Despite her positive spirit, the lurking danger and increasing violence slowly proved to be an inevitable barrier against Jean in her remarkable mission. Donovan Campbell, a New York Times Bestselling author as well as a former Captain of the United States Marine Corps offers unique insight on what it means and what it takes to become a remain a strong leader; in fact, he offers 8 chapters of insight, each one representing a different key concept on leadership. Each concept is different, however each one builds onto one another as the book progresses. While reading this book, I took careful notes on each concept as well as how I could incorporate each one into my own life. The first concept is mission. Campbell opens this chapter by telling a story about his time in the Marine Corps. The point of his anecdote was that understanding his own mortality is what helped him strive to do ... Campbell says that if we do that then we lose a realistic view of ourselves, which is what humility really is. When trying to think about how this could apply to my current life, the best example I thought of what working on group projects in school. When I thought about Campbell's words and then applied them to that situation, I felt I understood what he was saying. When working in a group, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. If I know that I could use one of my strengths to help the project, then denying that I could do a good job will only hurt the team in the end. Instead, by utilizing that skill properly, the team will benefit. and having a realistic view of the teams strengths, then we could all use them to help the project. After reading Campbell's chapter on humility, I understood that everyone acknowledging their own strengths and weaknesses is much better than everyone putting themselves down to try to appear humble. The term "excellence" is daunting. If you asked me, before I read this book, how I could achieve excellence daily, I would have told you simply: I can't. • 69. Christianity Rediscovered By Vincent J. Donovan Christianity Rediscovered Chapter One: In the first chapter of "Christianity Rediscovered" by Vincent J. Donovan he is introducing us to the idea that missionaries now have a poor reputation due to their history. He says "History has offered the opportunity to deflect and distort the meaning of missionary work in every age". For a long time a missionary was a person spreading the word of God and after years of doing so we have diminished many different beliefs, practices, cultures and history. At the time it was thought to be the right thing, to spread out and share the gospel to help people find meaning and acceptance. In today's age a missionary is a lot of different things, in many cases it is more focused on the health and physical wellbeing of the people. Many people still share the gospel through missionary work, but in other cases it is more of a material aid. Donovan introduces the book as a voyage of discovery he wants us to put our normal beliefs aside to see his perspective of living a missionaries life and struggling with the fact of if you are helping or hurting. Donovan speaks about the missionaries who came to East Africa after they were taken into slavery. The missionaries thought it would be a good idea to come over and buy the people to save them from harsh lives, so they bought as many as they could. Doing this they also taught them all of their customs and where forced into Christianity instead of their beliefs ways and cultures. This struck off a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Donovan Wester's Journey Through His Genetic Ancestry The travelogue Meeting the Family, by Donovan Webster, is a National Geographic book about Webster's journey through his genetic ancestry. Through his travelogue, Webster was able to paint a vivid mental picture, of the natural, and social environments of his ancestors; and how they have also been affected and influenced by modern social forces. • 77. Who Is Vincent Donovan Vincent Donovan was an out of the box thinker when he traveled to the Masai people in hopes to spread the gospel in hopes that these people would become Christian. In this paper it will address hindrance that Donovan faced, his views of Christology and soteriology in relation to the Christian faith perspective, and my own views on how well I believe that Donovan portrayed Christianity. One of the biggest hindrances for Donovan while dealing with the Masia was the culture difference in how situations were handled. As stated by Donovan (1995) "with these Africans the purpose of words is not to establish logical truth, but to set up social relationships with others." (p. 23) Donovan goes on to explain a story where in Masia culture they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also ran the fear that if a majority of the community rejects Christianity then he would lose the fence sitters to peer pressure to not believe in Christianity. As Donovan (1995) states "A community...will act as a unit, accepting you or rejecting you together... it is not possible or desirable to convert the Masai as individuals, but it is possible to evangelize them as groups." A second hindrance for Donovan was getting the Masia people to listen to his preaching of Christianity without receiving anything for it. The Masia people were very accustomed to missionaries bringing things in order to bribe the people to accept Christianity. He was aware of this set back from the beginning and how this shadows the true story of Jesus and what Christianity is about at the core. Donovan made it clear at this first meeting with the people of his true intentions while preaching. Along the same lines of not listening to Donovan, making sure that the Masai had "a mind free of preconceptions... there is no other way to deal with the subject that is so strange to us." (Donovan, 1995). This was hard to do because of the past history of the Catholic church coming to the Masai people. Donovan had to fight the expectations they held of his visit and reset their minds to take in the knowledge and information that Donovan wanted to teach. The illiteracy of the Masai people deemed to also be a very big hindrance to Donovan. He had to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
