It seems that the cultural landscape is ever changing and evolving. Issues that were
rarely discussed in media are now at the frontline of our media coverage, such as
police brutality, racial disparity and immigration reform. Everything from political
party preference to the increasing diversity of race and sexual orientation in each
generationhas an effect on the values portrayed in media. The value of each new
generation effects how the media shapes itself to market to that general public. In
order to understand the fluidity of the media, it is important to examine the change in
the landscape of media, and how it has adapted to meet each generations needs.
Though many generations feel that the developments of social media has caused a
sort of digital divide, many argue that media itself has caused this misconception
through images that, pokes fun at parents and grandparents trying to understand the
means of Twitter and Facebook as young children sit playing games on their iPad
(Warrington). Warrington, with The Collegian, argues that though there may be a
slight divide between generations, this can only be expected with such advances in
our access to media, and the younger generation is always the first to adapt to new
media. For instance, in the 1940 s and 50 s, many radio programs, such as The Lone
Ranger and Tom Mix, were marketed towards the Silent Generation, who had adapted
to this technology much easier than their parents and grandparents (OTRCAT.com).

Philosopher Benedict Spinoza said, Man is a social animal (Kaplan 278). The desire
for social acceptance, whether recognized or denied, is part of human culture. People
yearn for it, obsess over it, and alter themselves to obtain it. Humans can spend their
entire lives unsuccessfully attempting to achieve a level of social status they believe
will validate them. Acceptance is denied for superficial reasons varying from
clothing to cliques. However, it is also denied due to innate elements of personality.
Stigmatizing others for a natural characteristic not only seems unwarranted but also

They want to know what something is but also why it is that way. Teachers can take
this curiosity to be offensive and oftentimes the student is viewed negatively by their
peers due to an adoption of the teacher s negative attitude, thus beginning the social
stigma (Johnson 27).
Another standard, educational treatment of gifted students is to separate them from
the class. Because the gifted student has surpassed the majority the teacher isolates
the child with a separate advanced activity and returns to the majority. In these
situations the gifted student and his/her peers become accustomed to this different
status. The gifted student becomes an outsider in relation to the group by default, due
to his/her above average abilities. Educational treatment of the gift denies the student
the opportunity to learn to socially interact at a young age. Gifted students never
become accustomed to peer interaction because this system is perpetuated upward
throughout the grade levels. And unfortunately, in an educational atmosphere where
grades are a primary focus, poor interpersonal skills are more likely to be tolerated
than poor work related skills (Wolfle 3). It becomes a norm for the student to work
alone and his/her social and psychological needs are ignored.

ABSTRACT
There are various issues in intrusion detection system. It must detect the malicious
activities going on in a network and deal with the enormous amount of network
traffic. In this paper,things like accuracy and efficiency using CRFs and Layered
Approach have been addressed.
The CRFs reduce the number of false alarms thus improving the attack detection
accuracy,while the overall system efficiency can be improved using Layered
Approach.Thus, an obvious way it to sum them up for building a system that
accurately detects attacks.Four attack layers are selected related to the attack
groups(U2R, DoS, R2L, and Probe) and perform feature selection for each layer.
The results from individual classifiers at a layer are not combined at any later stage
in the Layered Approach, hence,we can block the attack at the detected layer.
