The document discusses effective project management. It argues that being "agile" is less important than being effective. Projects should be viewed as releasing products, and a project's success is determined by how well its processes align with the product's maturity. The document outlines a 5-step approach: 1) Don't focus on being agile but on being effective; 2) View projects as releasing products; 3) Align a project's processes with a product's maturity to determine if it is born a winner or loser; check a project's "DNA".
ALN-Bengaluru - Agile Management - Driving Leadership & Complexity of …Ravi Kumar
This document discusses agile management and the role of managers. It addresses the challenges of applying traditional management approaches to agile software development processes, which are characterized as complex adaptive systems. The document outlines several agile principles and manifestos focused on customer satisfaction, transparency, and self-organizing teams. It also examines different views of management and measurements, and argues future management approaches must focus on people, continuous improvement, and adapting to change rather than only efficiency.
What's this thing called "pull" - Mary PoppendieckAGILEMinds
This document discusses the transition from a push to a pull model of production. It summarizes the experience of a video cassette plant that was struggling until it switched from an MRP push system to a just-in-time pull system. The plant went from reliably shipping 60% of its weekly plan under MRP to shipping 95% after adopting pull and filling orders in 2 weeks instead of 6 with no expediting needed. It also discusses how pull systems create strategic inflection points that change how businesses operate.
"Lean software development: discovering waste" by Mary PoppendieckOperae Partners
The document discusses lean principles for software development. It notes that standard lean tools designed for operations may not be appropriate for application development. Lean principles for development focus on building the right thing, building it right, and delivering fast through techniques like designing based on customer needs, reducing waste from extra features and handoffs, embedding quality through testing, and minimizing technical debt.
The document discusses the evolution of agile development approaches over time from a contract focus to a development focus and now toward a customer focus. It notes agile has reached an "inflection point" where the focus has shifted from processes to interactions and working software, and now toward customer collaboration and initiating change. The document advocates for approaches like validated learning and customer discovery to ensure development focuses on building the right solution to meet customer needs.
The document discusses the need for a new model of software development based on creative collaboration rather than traditional outsourcing. It outlines the characteristics of high-performance teams, including talent, commitment to mastery, autonomy, and a shared vision. These principles have helped Ci&T transform from an outsourcing provider to a "partner player" that delivers innovative solutions through a culture of engagement, entrepreneurial spirit, and Lean thinking.
The document discusses concepts and best practices for continuous delivery and deployment pipelines. It advocates for automating deployments, deploying code changes frequently through pipelines that include testing at each stage, and making all environments as similar to production as possible to catch issues early. Maintaining consistency through configuration management tools and deploying to test systems first are also emphasized.
The document discusses how companies can build a community management center of excellence (CoE) to improve social business success. It provides examples of how a CoE could help address two situations: 1) launching an employee talent platform and 2) varying adoption rates of a social platform across regions. The CoE would focus community efforts, establish best practices, and apply a consistent strategy. It then outlines an 8-step process for establishing a CoE, including defining its vision and governance, recruiting experts, and piloting projects to refine its approach.

Abstract:
There are many commonly held myths about agile. Two of these myths are that agile projects don’t do any planning and that you can’t do agile on a fixed date project. In this presentation we will disprove these two myths by exploring just how agile planning is accomplished and how you can not only use agile on fixed date projects but also improve your accuracy and consistency in hitting those dates with agile.
This document discusses the need for heroes in software projects to help solve ambiguous problems. It provides an overview of a seminar on being a hero, including chronic problems in software projects, defining processes, and achieving a heroic environment. The seminar aims to show how individuals can improve their software projects by providing a human-centered framework for management.
The document discusses four big ideas that drive agile quality: focusing on customer value, commitment to continuous improvement, participation by everyone, and respect for culture. It argues that customer value means the customer judges what is useful, continuous improvement involves learning from feedback to reduce errors, participation requires involving all stakeholders, and culture is becoming more ubiquitous due to networking.

Why Symphini? The Symphini Change Management ApproachSccharron
The document discusses the traditional approach to strategic change management versus Symphini's integrated approach. The traditional approach treats change management and project management separately, resulting in delays, rework and failure to achieve expected results. Symphini's approach leverages best practices in organization development, process engineering, and project management to plan and implement strategic changes. It provides an end-to-end methodology to manage the people, process, and technology aspects of change initiatives from concept to delivery. This integrated approach aims to expedite change adoption, build sustainability, and reduce costs and risks associated with change projects.
The document introduces the concept of the "Improvement Kata" which is a routine used to make scientific learning and striving for improvement a daily habit. It does this by framing challenges as learning tasks that are challenging but solvable, without a known solution. This helps ordinary people become innovators by not having preconceptions about what cannot be done. Examples are given of how companies focused on customer needs rather than specific product solutions were able to drive innovation. The Improvement Kata is presented as a way to continuously unfold extraordinary human capabilities.
The webinar discusses measuring and reporting on "Project Vital Signs" to assess the health and status of a project. It introduces 14 key vital signs across 4 categories: strategy, tactics, performance, and team disposition. These vital signs are measured on a regular basis, typically monthly, to monitor the project's alignment, schedule, budget, issues, and risks. The webinar provides examples of how to clearly and concisely report the status of vital signs using a "punch line" format of current status, next steps, and any needed explanation. Measuring these quantitative and qualitative vital signs helps identify projects that may be running into trouble or off course.
Problem management yields service improvementmalcolmg
The document discusses how problem management processes must evolve over time to remain effective. It uses the example of an organization first implementing problem management based on ITIL guidelines. The initial process is customized to the organization's needs but has room to change. The paper then describes how the fictional organization's problem management process grows and adapts through stages as lessons are learned about balancing the process with people's roles. Continual review and improvement are needed to drive ongoing growth.
This document provides an overview of Acceptance Test Driven Development (ATDD) for building web applications. It begins with an introduction to the author and their company Futurice. It then defines ATDD as expressing functional requirements as concrete examples or expectations prior to development. The document discusses benefits of ATDD such as establishing a shared understanding of requirements, early regression detection, and producing executable documentation. It also notes potential challenges of ATDD including difficulty, lack of automation, and initial overhead. Finally, it provides steps for formulating test cases and demonstrates an example using a stopwatch application.
This document discusses how advertising agencies need to adapt their processes and structures to the changing digital media landscape. It recommends (1) producing more varied digital work frequently through smaller teams, (2) shifting team compositions to focus on specialized skills like development and UX rather than traditional roles, and (3) using flexible, iterative processes within co-located teams rather than restrictive hierarchies. The goal is to empower creativity through experimentation rather than prove lack of risk in order to succeed in the new environment.
The document discusses the various roles and responsibilities of a software developer. It outlines the contribution possibilities for developers, such as providing optimal solutions, clarifying requirements gaps, contributing to solution architecture, and creating reusable code assets. It also describes capacity development possibilities, like learning new technologies, contributing to communities of practice, gaining exposure to processes, and developing time management skills. Finally, it maps out several career pathways for developers, including project management, technical leadership, quality assurance, business analysis, and entrepreneurship. The key takeaway is that software developers have many avenues for professional growth beyond just writing code.

The trails of Val Rendena
Val Rendena, the valley that runs from Madonna di Campiglio to Villa, is known as the “Green Valley” because of the intense green of the nature in which it is immersed. Old-growth forests and woodlands descend the slopes and brush up to the quaint alpine towns and villages with their hidden treasures of art and history: medieval churches with frescos dating back to the second half of the 15th and first half of the 16th centuries by the Baschenis, traveling painters from Averara, in the province of Bergamo; capitellos (roadside shrines); museums featuring the customs and traditional crafts of the Val Rendena area; historic town centers that preserve their ancient architecture; squares and fountains that one happens upon when walking through the narrow streets of the towns; and landscapes of rare beauty in which nature and man’s handiwork come together as one. Running through Val Rendena is thirteen kilometers (eight miles) of cycling and walking trails that largely run along the banks of the Sarca river, connecting Carisolo to Villa Rendena, Tione di Trento and Ponte Pià beyond Ragoli.
Flat sections alternate with short climbs for an up-and-down route suited to both expert cyclists looking to test their speed and to families wanting to go for a pleasant, relaxing ride in the outdoors without working too hard (travel time: about 4 hours uphill from Ponte Pià to Carisolo)

The document discusses how childhood trauma and abuse can shape a person's unconscious self-concept and beliefs. Negative experiences with parents become internalized and stored in the unconscious mind. This unconscious programming can influence behaviors and choices without a person's conscious awareness. The unconscious beliefs and emotions from childhood are maintained into adulthood, continuing to impact relationships, choices, and how one interprets the world. Breaking intergenerational cycles requires recognizing unconscious beliefs and reprogramming thought patterns through cognitive restructuring programs.

The document summarizes an Enterprise 2.0 conference taking place from November 10-12, 2009 in Frankfurt, Germany. The conference will focus on how companies can improve business results through enhanced collaborative performance using social software and web 2.0 approaches. It will feature keynote speakers and panels of experts discussing strategies, best practices, and case studies. Topics will include measuring collaborative performance, multi-cultural challenges, new forms of leadership, and how Enterprise 2.0 can support business transformation.
The document discusses the role of HR in innovation. It argues that HR needs to act as a strategic business partner that creates solutions aligned with business needs, while also standardizing processes for efficiency. HR faces challenges in balancing centralization with diverse stakeholder needs. The document also discusses the role of an ombudsman in mediating conflicts and increasing employee satisfaction. Finally, it promotes the idea of "constructive controversy," where intellectual conflicts drive new understanding and problem solving, as a way for HR to facilitate innovation from all levels of an organization.
Here are the key steps of the scientific method:
1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena. This includes how it was measured or counted, under what conditions, and other relevant qualitative and quantitative details.
2. Development of a hypothesis to explain the phenomena. A hypothesis is not yet a theory - it is an educated guess or supposition.
3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations and experiments.
4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and researchers.
5. Iterative refinement of the hypothesis based on the experimental evidence, or development of alternative hypotheses.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
