★ Session Summary ★
One of the important technical novelties introduced with the recent release of Android Lollipop is the replacement of Dalvik, the VM which was used to execute the bytecode produced from Java apps, with ART, a new Android Run-Time. One interesting aspect in this upgrade is that the use of Just-In-Time compilation was abandoned in favour of Ahead-Of-Time compilation. This delivers better performance [1], also leaving a good margin for future improvements. ART was designed to support multiple compilers. The compiler that shipped with Android Lollipop is called the “Quick Compiler”. This is simple, fast, and is derived from Dalvik’s JIT compiler. In 2014 our team at ARM worked in collaboration with Google to extend ART and its Quick Compiler to add support for 64-bit and for the A64 instruction set. These efforts culminated with the recent release of the Nexus 9 tablet, the first 64-bit Android product to hit the market. Despite Google’s intention of replacing the Quick Compiler with the so-called “Optimizing Compiler”, the job for the the Quick Compiler is not yet over. Indeed, the Quick Compiler will remain the only usable compiler in Android Lollipop. Therefore, all competing parties in the Android ecosystem have a huge interest in investigating and improving this component, which will very likely be one of the battlegrounds in the Android benchmark wars of 2015. This talk aims to give an unofficial overview of ART’s Quick compiler. It will first focus on the internal organisation of the compiler, adopting the point of view of a developer who is interested in understanding its limitations and strengths. The talk will then move to exploring the output produced by the compiler, discussing possible strategies for improving the generated code, while keeping in mind that this component may have a limited life-span, and that any long-term work would be better directed towards the Optimizing Compiler. MIPI DevCon 2016: How to Use the VESA Display Stream Compression (DSC) Standa...MIPI Alliance
The VESA Display Stream Compression (DSC) standard is a visually lossless video compression algorithm that decreases transmission bandwidth by up to 3X, while lowering power and reducing EMI. The standard has been adopted by leading suppliers of semiconductors for use in mobiles, tablets, in-car video, and DTV applications in order to achieve higher resolution displays. This presentation by Hardent's Alain Legault provides background information about DSC and the role it plays in today’s interface IP ecosystem when combined with MIPI® DSI, USB Type-C™, DisplayPort™ and Embedded DisplayPort™, and HDMI™ IPs. Several use cases are discussed, and practical information on how to successfully integrate DSC in semiconductor designs is also provided.

The search for faster computing remains of great importance to the software community. Relatively inexpensive modern hardware, such as GPUs, allows users to run highly parallel code on thousands, or even millions of cores on distributed systems.
Building efficient GPU software is not a trivial task, often requiring a significant amount of engineering hours to attain the best performance. Similarly, distributed computing systems are inherently complex. In recent years, several libraries were developed to solve such problems. However, they often target a single aspect of computing, such as GPU computing with libraries like CuPy, or distributed computing with Dask.
Libraries like Dask and CuPy tend to provide great performance while abstracting away the complexity from non-experts, being great candidates for developers writing software for various different applications. Unfortunately, they are often difficult to be combined, at least efficiently.
With the recent introduction of NumPy community standards and protocols, it has become much easier to integrate any libraries that share the already well-known NumPy API. Such changes allow libraries like Dask, known for its easy-to-use parallelization and distributed computing capabilities, to defer some of that work to other libraries such as CuPy, providing users the benefits from both distributed and GPU computing with little to no change in their existing software built using the NumPy API.

A Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) bus is a system for serial communication, which uses up to four conductors, commonly three. One conductor is used for data receiving, one for data sending, one for synchronization and one alternatively for selecting a device to communicate with. It is a full duplex connection, which means that the data is sent and received simultaneously. The maximum baud rate is higher than that in the I2C communication system.

Cosmetic shop management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
Buying new cosmetic products is difficult. It can even be scary for those who have sensitive skin and are prone to skin trouble. The information needed to alleviate this problem is on the back of each product, but it's thought to interpret those ingredient lists unless you have a background in chemistry.
Instead of buying and hoping for the best, we can use data science to help us predict which products may be good fits for us. It includes various function programs to do the above mentioned tasks.
Data file handling has been effectively used in the program.
The automated cosmetic shop management system should deal with the automation of general workflow and administration process of the shop. The main processes of the system focus on customer's request where the system is able to search the most appropriate products and deliver it to the customers. It should help the employees to quickly identify the list of cosmetic product that have reached the minimum quantity and also keep a track of expired date for each cosmetic product. It should help the employees to find the rack number in which the product is placed. It is also Faster and more efficient way.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
