• One of the most important agricultural problem.
• It removes plant nutrients along with soil.
• In India 81 Mha of land out of total geological area of 326 Mha and
56.7 Mha of land out of net cultivated area of 135.8 Mha suffer
from soil erosion.
• Out of these 40 Mha are in advanced stage of deterioration and
need prompt attention.

A= Average annual soil loss (tons/ha)
R= Rainfall factor (erosivity index)
K= Soil erodibility factor
L= Length of slope factor
S= Steepness of slope factor
C= Crop management factor
P= Conservation practice factor
A= R.K.L.S.C.P
OBJECTIVES
• To find out rainfall erosivity index for Nashik District.
• To develop relationship between rainfall and erosivity index (R).

• The data of rain gauge charts of Nashik.
• The rainfall charts of Monthly, Seasonal & Annually
from 2008-2012.
METHODOLOGY
• Methods for finding rainfall factor(R) :
1. 30-Minute Maximum Rainfall Intensity
2. Kinetic Energy Of the Storm
• Rainfall erosivity index (R) :
Rainfall erosivity index is defined as the potential ability of
rainfall to cause erosion and is computed using the relation,

Where,
R = Rainfall erosivity index in metric units
E = Kinetic energy of rainfall in metric units
I30 = Maximum rainfall intensity of storm segment of 30 minute duration
in cm/hr
• Kinetic energy of the storm :
The equation given by Wischmeir (1958) was used to compute the
kinetic energy (KE) of the storm.
KE = 210.3+89 log I _______(i)
E = ∑ KE _______(ii)
• Frequency analysis :
The available data can be used to predict the events in future by frequency analysis.
The monthly, seasonal and annual rainfall erosivity index will be analyze.
• Relationship between rainfall and rainfall index :
• In USLE, R is the most significant parameter.
• The relation between monthly, seasonal, and annual rainfall with respective
erosivity index (R) will be examined.

EROSION • Definition • Types Of Erosion • Disadvantages • One of the most important agricultural problem. • It removes plant nutrients along with soil. • In India 81 Mha of land out of total geological area of 326 Mha and 56.7 Mha of land out of net cultivated area of 135.8 Mha suffer from soil erosion. • Out of these 40 Mha are in advanced stage of deterioration and need prompt attention.

  • 12. METHODOLOGY • Methods for finding rainfall factor(R) : 1. 30-Minute Maximum Rainfall Intensity 2. Kinetic Energy Of the Storm • Rainfall erosivity index (R) : Rainfall erosivity index is defined as the potential ability of rainfall to cause erosion and is computed using the relation, _____ (1.1) Where, R = Rainfall erosivity index in metric units E = Kinetic energy of rainfall in metric units I30 = Maximum rainfall intensity of storm segment of 30 minute duration in cm/hr
  • 13. • Kinetic energy of the storm : The equation given by Wischmeir (1958) was used to compute the kinetic energy (KE) of the storm. KE = 210.3+89 log I _______(i) E = ∑ KE _______(ii)
  • 14. • Frequency analysis : The available data can be used to predict the events in future by frequency analysis. The monthly, seasonal and annual rainfall erosivity index will be analyze. • Relationship between rainfall and rainfall index : • In USLE, R is the most significant parameter. • The relation between monthly, seasonal, and annual rainfall with respective erosivity index (R) will be examined.
