2. Introduction
The theory of evolution claims
that all of the life forms we
see today, including humans,
evolved from “the single-
celled organism.” For this to
be true, the earth would need
to be billions of years old in
order to allow enough time for
the huge amount of genetic
change necessary to enable
this to happen. Evolutionists
use various dating methods to
support the belief that the
earth is billions of years old.
In this powerpoint we will look
at some of evolution’s best
dating methods and show that
the evidence does not
scientifically support billions
of years.

3. Rock Layers
Evolutionists decided over 200
years ago, before modern scientific
dating methods were invented, that
the earth is billions of years old.
James Hutton is creditted with the
idea of uniformitarianism, or the
idea that the geological record is
the result of slow present day
processes and not the Biblical
Flood. Hutton’s disciple Charles
Lyell propagated this idea in the
1830’s which was generally
accepted prior to the publishing of
Darwin’s book in 1859. Lyell’s goal
was to “free science from Moses.”
Since no one has lived through
“deep time” we cannot know that it
has actually occurred. It is a
foundation assumption believed by
many scientists.

4. Sedimentary Rock
Scientists first came to “know”
that the earth is billions of years
old based on Hutton’s and Lyell’s
interpretation of the multitude of
fine layers found in sedimentary
rock all over the earth. Rejecting
the traditional idea that the
geological record was the result
of a catostrophic event, Noah’s
Flood, they assumed that the
vast thickness of rock layers
represented billions of years of
slow current day processes.
However, this is not operation
science, that can be tested or
observed. This is historical
science, which is a belief about
the past based on current
evidence. But does the present
evidence really confirm the
billions of years?

5. Mount St. Helens
Operation scientific
experiments have shown
that fine-layered sediment,
under the right conditions,
can form very quickly. But
the eruptions that took
place on Mount St. Helens
between 1980 and 1982
are much more impressive
example of rapid fine-
layered deposits. One
volcanic explosion
produced 25 feet of fine-
layered sediment in just a
few hours. This
observable science
discredits Hutton’s, Lyell’s
and modern evolutionary
scientist’s interpretation of
the geological evidence.

6. Lack of Erosion between Rock Layers
In fact, a closer
look at the
sedimentary rock
layers themselves
brings to light
serious evidence
against billions of
years. Simple
observation
shows that there
is lack of erosion
between rock
layers supposedly
separated by
many millions of
years. How could
some layers not
experience any
erosion for
millions of years?

7. Polystrate Fossils
There is also a lack of
disturbances within
some rock layers. How
could these rock layers
wait millions of years to
harden without worms
or bugs or roots
causing obvious
disturbances?
Scientists also regularly
find polystrate fossils,
which are fossils that
pass through several
rock layers vertically.
Now, how could an
animal or plant wait
millions of years to be
covered slowly-and-
gradually by rock layers
without first decaying?

8. Conclusion on Rock Layers
Operation science verifies
that millions of years are
not needed in order to
form vast layers of
sedimentary rock. In fact,
most of the current
evidence refutes
evolution’s billions of
years, like the lack of
erosion between rock
layers that are supposedly
millions of years apart. It
makes better sense to
believe what the Bible
says, that the earth is only
thousands of years old,
and that most of the rock
layers were laid down
rapidly by a worldwide
flood.

9. Radiometric Dating
Evolutionists also use
various radiometric dating
methods to support their
belief that the earth is
billions of years old.
These methods use
element ratios as the
foundation of their
results. Some elements,
like uranium, the parent
element, undergo
radiometric decay to
produce other elements,
daughter elements, like
lead. Scientists can
accurately measure the
ratio of the amount of the
parent element in the
rock to the amount of the
daughter element in the
rock.

10. Radiometric Decay Assumptions
Scientists claim they are
measuring the age of a
rock, but actually, they
are not measuring dates,
they’re measuring
element ratios. To get the
“dates” from their
measuements, a lot of big
assumptions have to be
made, and have to be
true. First of all, they
assume billions of years
of time have passed.
Then, they assume they
are correct in their
guesstimate of how much
of the parent element
was in the rock to begin
with, some billions of
years ago.

11. Isotope Decay
Next, they assume that the rate of decay has always been constant over billions of
years. Finally, they assume that none of the elements were lost from or added to the
rock being measured for billions of years. These are all very big assumptions and a
billion years is a very, very long period of time to “assume” anything. Nevertheless,
because of their underlining belief system, evolutionists begin with these huge,
billion-year assumptions. In the end, they confidently proclaim that the rocks they
have tested are billions of years old, “confirming” their original assumption that the
earth is billions of years old.

12. Radiometric Dating’s Lack of Reliability
A certain primate fossil was discovered and brought in to be dated. The lab received
an initial radiometric date of 230 million years. Evolutionists “knew” this date was way
off the mark because they have decided that humans weren’t around that far back.
Several attempts were made at re-dating this fossil until a result of 2.9 million years
was reached. But, this was still too old according to their initial belief about human
evolution, so they knew it must still be wrong. Further “investigation” brought the
radiometric age down to 1.9 million years, just as they had expected all along. How
convient. This is just one example of how scientists “work” the data until they find a
date they “know” is true. Is it really science to know your conclusion before the
testing has even begun?

13. Ages of Known Rocks Over-Dated
One rock from Mount St. Helens
was known to be formed in 1986,
but was dated to be 350,000
years old. Also, radiometric dates
derived from five different lava
flows from Mount Nguaruhoe in
New Zealand ranged in the age
from 0.27 to 3.5 million years. But
in reality, all five lava flows had
occurred within the last 50 years.
Evolutionists “explain” that excess
argon from the magma was
trapped in the rock when it
solidified, making it test older than
it really is. But, if we can’t trust
radiometric dating for rocks of
known ages, how can we trust it
for rocks of unknown ages? Who’s
to say that excess argon wasn’t
trapped in other rocks, also?

14. Earth’s Magnetic Field Decay
The earth has a magnetic field that
protects living things from strong solar
radiation and makes life on earth
possible. Without our magnetic field life
on earth would not exist. Since 1845
scientists have been measuring the
earth’s magnetic field. They have come
to the disturbing conclusion that the
earth’s magnetic field is rapidly
decaying. Based on the current rate at
which the earth’s field is winding down it
can be calculated that the earth is no
more than 20,000 years old.

15. Receding Moon
The moon is slowly moving away
from the earth. As the moon orbits
the earth its gravity actually pulls on
the earth’s oceans, which causes
tides. The tides actually “pull
forward” on the moon, causing the
moon to gradually spiral outward.
So the moon moves about an inch
and a half away from the earth
every year. That means the moon
would have been closer to the earth
in the past.
For example, 6,000 years ago, the moon would have been 800 feet closer to the
earth, which is not much of change considering that the moon is about 250,000 miles
away. So the spiraling away of the moon is not a problem if the earth is just 6,000
years old as the Bible seems to indicate. However, if the earth and moon are over 4
billion yeras old, then we have a big problem. At the same rate the moon is receding
today, if we extrapolated backwards in time, just 1.4 billion years ago the earth and
moon would have been touching. This problem suggests that the moon can’t
possibly as old as secular astronomers claim.

16. The Amount of Salt in the Oceans
Currently, salt is entering the sea much faster than it is escaping. When it rains, 30%
of the water runs into the ocean, bringing with it mineral salts. Today they are 3.6%
salt. The sea is not nearly salty enough for this to have been happening for billions of
years. Granting the most generous assumptions to evolutionists, Creation Scientists
calculated that the ocean must be less than 62 million years old. It’s important to
stress that this is not the actual age, but a maximum age. That is, this evidence is
consistent with any age up to 62 million years, including the biblical age of about
6,000 years. The saltiness of today’s oceans could have been reached in less than
5,000 years.

17. Not Enough Helium in Atmosphere
Scientists can work out how fast
helium is forming, how fast it escapes
from rocks, how much enters the air,
and how much can escape from the
air into space. They can also measure
the amount of helium in rocks and in
the air. From this, they can calculate
the maximum age of rocks and of the
air. The results are puzzling to those
who believe in billions of years. Of
course, all such calculations depend
on assumptions about the past, like
the starting conditions and constant
rates of processes. They can
never prove the age of something. For
that, we need an eye-witness.
67 grams of helium escape from the earth's crust into the atmosphere every second,
it would have taken about two million years for the current amount of helium to build
up, even if there had been none at the beginning. Evolutionists believe the earth is
over 2,500 times older - 4.5 billion years. Of course, the earth could have been
created with most of the helium already there, so two million years is
a maximum age. It could easily be much younger.

18. Conclusion
The previous scientific evidences support
the idea that the earth is not billions of
years old, but only thousands. The theory
of evolution claims all the life forms we see
today evolved from “the first single-celled
organism.” For this to be true, the earth
would need to be billions of years old.
However, various ways of estimating the
age of the earth, which we have looked at,
do not support the belief that the earth is
billions of years old.
Operational science has shown that rock
layers can form very quickly, requiring only
hours or days, not billions of years, which
we have seen in the case of Mount St.
Helens volcanic explosion in the 1980s. We
have seen that radiometric dating that
shows the earth is billions of years old is
not the same as reading the calander.
Rather, it is based on unprovable
assumptions, and has been shown to be
extremely inaccurate.

19. Creationists´ Assumptions
Creationists date the earth by using
the history recorded in the Bible. They
start with the belief or assumption that
the Bible is an accurate eyewitness
account of world history. By taking the
Genesis account in the Bible as
recorded history, Bible scholars have
determined that the earth is about
6,000 years old. Therefore, creation
scientistists start with the idea that the
earth is young. As times goes on,
more and more scientific data is being
found that agrees with the idea that
the earth is young as the Bible
indicates. Evolutionists hold to their
belief that the earth is billions of years
old and that evolution is true. But the
evidence makes better sense when
we start with what the Bible says, that
God created the earth and all life
about 6,000 years ago.
