1. News Story Review
For this assignment I had to create three different news stories with the
same intended target audience. The three news stories that I decided to do
were the Berlin trip, EMMA awards and on media student Beth Melia. I
chose these three to do because they were suitable for my target audience
of college students.
The first news story that I did was the Berlin trip for media students. The
purpose of this news story was to promote the trip and get college students
to want to go. As this was the purpose of the story I decided to interview a
student who was attending the trip to get their opinion on it. The
presentation of this news story was done in a non-interview style as when
it came to editing I cut out the interviewer asking the interviewee the
questions. The editing process didn’t consist of much, all I had to do was
crop and swap round some of the recorded sounds to get it how I wanted it.
I decided to use only certain quotes from the interviewee as some of what
was said wasn’t needed. A negative part of this news story was how clear
my voice was. If I did it again I would make sure that I spoke clearer so that
the audience can understand me better. A positive thing with this new
story is how well I gathered background information. This is shown with
the information I provide in the news story.
The second news story that I produced was about the college EMMA
awards. The purpose of this news story was to inform students what this
awards event was about and who gets involved. I decided to take a more
formal approach to this story so I decided to interview the tutor in charge
of this event. The reason for this was because the interviewee I chose knew
a lot more about this story than a student would so I would end up with
better answers to my questions. Through the use of the presentation style
the audience could tell that this was an informative promotional. The
reason for this being that the interviewee mentioned when this event is
going to be taking place. When it came to the editing process I decided to
take the same approach I did with my first news story and edit out in
interviewer asking the questions to the interviewee. Something I could
improve with story is the style of presentation I used. If I did it again I
would edit the news story so that the audience could hear the type of

questions I asked the interviewee. By doing this it would add more detail to
the story.
The final news story that I decided to do was about media student Beth
Melia and the work experience she has been doing in the media industry.
This was intended to inform college students about how they could
possibly get into this kind of experience and show how this student did it.
The purpose of this story was to inform my intended target audience. The
sound quality of this story was clear and concise with the audience being
able to hear the question clearly. When it came to the delivery and
presentation of this news story I decided I would do it differently to the
previous stories I did. I chose to include the audio of me asking the
questions to the interviewee. I did this to show that I can produce different
styles of news stories. Overall this news story was seen as the most popular
which is what I found out from the results of my survey. A positive point of
this story was the information that was gathered beforehand and the
information that was produced during the interview. The reason for this
being that the target audience understood everything that was said and
gained a lot of knowledge about the media through this news story.
