Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is the most common form of diabetes. It is caused by lifestyle and genetic factors and is not communicable. Those most at risk are usually over 40, Hispanic, African American, Native American, or Asian/Pacific Islander. The disease results in frequent urination, increased thirst and hunger as the body does not receive the insulin it needs from the pancreas. Treatment focuses on maintaining a healthy weight, diet, exercise and monitoring blood sugar levels. Left untreated, it can lead to serious health conditions but is not necessarily terminal.
