      Transmitted
• Exposure to:        The
                  organism,
• Rats            Y. Pestis, is
• Rodents         carried by

• Squirrels      animals and

Etiology

• The incubation period is 1-6 days
• The most common symptoms are :
   • Fever, chills, sore throat, nausea, vomiting,
     headache, weakness, enlarged, swollen lymph
     nodes (buboes), constipation, abdominal ain
     and joint stiffness.
Pathology

• It is not chronic; however, you are susceptible to
  this diseases if you are exposed to it again.
Prognosis and
            Treatment
• Blood, lymph node and sputum cultures can detect
  this disease. If it goes untreated, it can be terminal.
• The only means of prevention are through rat
  control.
