Reading is a great way for students to engage in cultural experiences from their own background,
history, values and customs (Blake, 2015) Educators need to understand the importance of
multicultural education and provide opportunities for their students to learn about different cultures
(Chittom, 2015). The literature should spark children s imaginations and provide a basis for questions
and conversations. (Meade, 2015). It is important for preschool and elementary students to see
themselves and their communities reflected in the literature they read (Blake, 2015).
Effects of Incorporating Multicultural Literacy in the Classroom
Multiculturalism adds to students comfort when working with their peers of diverse racial and ethnic
backgrounds (Werner, 2013). At its best multicultural children s literature helps students understand
that despite our many differences we all share common feelings and aspirations (Allers, 2011). It is
critical to make sure that teachers have professional development programs that teacher educators how
to integrate multicultural education into their curricula (Werner, 2013). A successful school system
treats diversity as a source of potential growth rather than a hindrance to student performance (OECD,
2010).

Essay On Sir Cumference And The Isle Of Immeter
The child I choose to teach was my little sister Itzel Ruvalcaba, she is about to complete 5th grade and
I thought it would be perfect to teach her a little math lesson. The novel I selected was Sir Cumference
and the Isle of Immeter by Cindy Neuschwander illustrated by Wayne Geehan. The Publisher is
Charlesbridge Pub Inc. and copyright date of January 1, 2006. The basic math concept I am teaching
her is finding the perimeter of a square, rectangle, and circle as well as finding the circles area. The
novel is mainly about a young girl named Per visits her Uncle Sir Cumference and his family and
learned how to play a game Inners and Edges Per learned the formula for Area the length (l)
multiplied by the width (w)= Area (A). The same night she finds a clue within the game linked to the
island with a mysterious castle on the Island of Immeter guarded by a sea serpent. Early next morning
she headed off to explore and reveal the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On pages 3 4 we played and worked out the scene of the game Inners and Edges this helped her
understand what perimeter is and where it is located on the shape. After showing her the examples
given in the story I made extra patterns on the side for her to solve. Overall, throughout the process of
reading the book together we occasionally stopped and played out the math related scenes to guide
Itzel of understanding the riddles occurring in the novel. The vocabulary within the story was slightly
unfamiliar to her. For example the circumference, radius, and perimeter were the ones she had the
most trouble with. While we were working on the Circles Overhead activity I explained and showed
her what the meaning of each vocabulary word because it was new material for her. While we were
working on the word problems she understood the exercise very well and did it mostly without my

Examples Of Juxtaposition In Huckleberry Finn

Dramatic Irony, Verbal Irony, and Comic Juxtaposition in Trying to Help Jim
Language matters. More specifically, the words we use change the way we perceive the world around
us. This theory, known as linguistic relativism, gives us a way of analyzing the motivations and
worldviews of characters in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn through the way they discuss the
problems presented to them. This is especially important when discussing reform, as a character s
changes in speech can help us asses the affect their environment has on their ability to ameliorate the
situation. In Chapter 36, Trying to Help Jim, Twain presents a cynical picture of reformation, arguing
that regression pervades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While he understands the need to work quickly, he doesn t care enough to simplify his plan, instead
opting for having fun at Jim s expense in the meantime. More interestingly, however, the way in which
Tom frames the entire situation is mimicked by Huck during the aforementioned case knife scene.
Huck uses the same altered version of morality as Tom, indicating that while he is still in favour of
getting Jim out quickly, he contextualizes the problem in the same way that Tom does, whose views
on the subject have already been shown to be ethically dubious. Although his specific perspective
differs from Tom s, the way in which he is interpreting the problem at hand speaks volumes about his
change in attitude. A mere few chapters prior when Huck said All right, then, I ll go to hell , Jim s
enslavement was a real threat, and it corresponded to an incredibly difficult ethical dilemma in Huck s
mind (Twain, 214). In contrast, the issue in Trying to Help Jim has been rendered abstract, and
consequently neither Huck nor Tom take the problem with the appropriate gravity or

What Are The Similarities Between The French Revolution...
France and Russia both underwent powerful revolutions. The French Revolution resulted in the
overthrow of the long established Bourbon monarchy. The Russian Revolution resulted in the
overthrow of the Roman Dynasty. Both the French and Russian Revolution were the direct result of
poor economic conditions, government corruption, and unjust treatment of the lower class. The pre
revolutionary events that led up to the French and Russian Revolutions had similar, yet different
causes and effects.
The French and Russian Revolution are similar because they both attempt to remake society and used
violence against citizens who resisted the new changes. The French Revolution was caused by a

Since King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette, who were getting the tax money, were spending
it on ridiculous items, like wigs, the lower class were getting more and more upset. Women started to
protest because they could not provide for their family because of the bread prices rising. The palace
where the king and queen were staying at was being invaded by all of the angry women which caused
the king and queen to fled. Later, the Bastille, the place where prisoners and ammunition was stored,
was also stormed into. However, when Louis XVI was executed, years later Napoleon became the first
emperor of France. Napoleon had to go through a series of successful military campaigns and create
advancements in the military to gain power. The revolution was a burden for France because it caused
the Reign of Terror along with other crisis.People were falling apart socially and politically. Napoleon

Characters In William Shakespeare s Hamlet As A Tragic Hero
In the play Hamlet , Shakespeare dramatises the revenge found within Prince Hamlet when he is
greeted upon by his father s ghost who calls for him to avenge his death. Throughout the play you
come to find that Hamlet s uncle is the one that killed his father, in order to steal the fair maiden and
the throne . With these occurrences happening in Hamlet s life he is known as a tragic hero. It takes
three things to be considered a Tragic Hero: Being from Noble Blood, has a tragic flaw, and
experiences a downfall. Hamlet begins with noble intentions whenever he introduced to a new
conflict, throughout the play his never ending peril and conflicts reign over him until his death. Sadly,
Hamlet died before he could see any of the outcomes from his actions. In Shakespeare s Hamlet the
leading character, Hamlet faces three turning points that caused him to ultimately be named a Tragic
hero: the death of his father, the impeccable use of his words, and his ability to fake his madness to get
a confession from his uncle, which ultimately ended with his demise. In Act 1 Scene 5, Hamlet s
father appears once again, but this time had the intent to talk to Hamlet. With a bitter tongue and a
sincere warning, Hamlet s father exhorted, Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard. A serpent stung
me; so the whole ear of Denmark. Is by a forged process of my death. Rankly abused: but know, thou
noble youth. The serpent that did sting thy father s life. Now wears his crown. (Act 1 Scene

Understanding The Development Process Of A Child
After carefully observing a 7 year old elementary school student, I was able to analyze and understand
the development process of a child in a detailed manner. The individual observed was a seven year old
Caucasian male, who is currently enrolled at a local elementary school. The participant is the oldest
child of the family who comes from a well balanced family background. Mother and the father are
healthy individuals who are actively engaged in the upbringing of the young participant. Father of the
participant is a full time graduate student at Midwestern University. The participant spends the
majority of his free time outside of his living space actively playing with his younger siblings or just
by himself. The participant is in second grade and rides to school every day on his bicycle under the
supervision of his mother. The participant spends the majority of the day with his mother than father,
this is primarily due to father s full time status as a graduate student. Observation of this participant
was divided in two locations on Midwestern University s campus. The first 40 minutes of the
observation took place outside in front of the participant s living space. Participant spent time playing
with two sticks, trying to attach one stick with another. Although the participant was preoccupied with
the sticks, he was aware of his surroundings. On multiple occasion participant made a direct eye
contact with a stranger walking by or a something similar. Participant also

Avery Heights is a community nursing home in a park like setting in the town of Hartford. I have been
a volunteer worker for two years and almost every day I visit this magnificent place. My attendance
began when I was a high school student looking to complete community service work mandatory for
every student. Ever since my first visit, I have thoroughly enjoyed assisting the residents living in
Avery Heights throughout my high school experience and beyond. Whether spending time with
dementia and Alzheimer s patient or enjoying the twist and turns of the puzzle solving and Friday
Bingo games with the healthy residents, I developed a sense of compassion, love, and gratitude toward
them. My attraction to the Heights was mainly because of volunteering. I helped residents with any
technological issues that they faced, from fixing old VCR players so they could watch their favorites
90s TV shows to teaching them how to access the nursing home Wi Fi and creating an email account
which were a truly rewarding experiences. During a cold Saturday night, I informed my volunteer
coordinator Jackie, a music therapist researching the impact of music on Alzheimer s patients that I
would like to attend the Sunday service prayer to gain a new prospective about a faith to which I had
little to no exposure. Jackie welcomed me with a smile and agreed that my arrival in the morning
would be expected. My main motivation was curiosity for learning and understanding a different

Essay On George Orwell Use Of Propaganda
Many people fear that the world will become like the world of 1984, yet they are oblivious that it is
slowly becoming more like it every day. They fear for their privacy and free thought while the
government is keeping track on their every move. The world s quickly advancing technology is
bringing it closer to the world of Big Brother than we have ever been before. This growth is evident in
the world of media with the overuse of propaganda. In United States politics especially, candidates
and the government use ads that they want you to believe. They attempt to persuade the reader into
forgetting what they once thought before in order to believe what the government is feeding them.

Big brother watched the citizens through the millions of telescreens throughout the nation that
followed everyone s every move (Orwell). Through these ridiculous means, they could easily track
down criminals or people they thought might become a criminal. Even if it might help the
government, it ultimately is completely inappropriate and violates many rights a citizen should have.
They should not be watched while they sleep or be worried to look a certain way in fear of being
arrested. Sadly our country is turning to the same measures to catch criminals. In Long Beach they
combined the retail cameras and security cameras to use in order to catch criminals, a total of 400
cameras (Winton). Although they say these are being used only when they suspect criminal activity,
who is to say they aren t watching around the clock. Long Beach police department can easily watch
the city s people throughout the whole day whether or not there is criminal activity. This is a perfect
demonstration of how close we are getting to the world of Big Brother. People are beginning to see
how we are following in the steps of Orwels novel, using it as a guide to shape our world rather than
an example of what not to do. The world together is growing more technologically advanced, which is
both great and dangerous. Where we take the technology will determine whether we live in an

My Passion In Music
My passion is music, and there isn t anything that beats it. I ve always done it as a kid. I started off
with guitar lessons at the age of 5 and just fell in love with the idea of putting your emotion through
chords and melodies. Although I may not have been a pro, I still enjoyed it no matter what. Later on in
my musical career, I realized a lot of music you create is all about owning what you do. And trials
after trials made me the musician I am today.
Our band named Saluda formerly named Rescue Party grew up in high school together playing gigs
every other night at the town s bars. It wasn t that hard to get these gigs because we were really the
only band in our town, Spartanburg. Our very first gig was at this small bar with about 5 or 6 people in
the audience. Half of them weren t even listening but it was the first time we could say we made
money because of music, and that really got us motivated. We barely knew what we were doing most
of the time because we were just kids and had no knowledge about the live music scene. We finally
graduated and half of the band was in high school and the other half college. It made us practice a lot
less, but we grew a lot in our instruments. As I went through my first year in college I became way
more into the music. I was practicing 5 hours everyday on covers and originals. This was making me
grow so much as a musician.
Then we got our first big gig opening for the act Daya. We stressed a lot about this gig and practiced

In this particular situation, BSE has known expenses required such as materials, wages, and variable

solutions on how to meet the increased demand. However, throughout the cycle the need to step back
and evaluate the process will need to be continually assessed. One of the biggest concerns on
implementation process will be, can they meet the demand with their current set up or will they need
to expand their operations. There are many avenues or traps that must be considered when making the
plan and finally executing. One of the first things that must be considered is can the current team
support the workload? A pitfall that could affect this is the overconfidence bias (Bauer, 2012). This
occurs when the team or management overestimates their ability to meet the mission. With a fifty
percent increase in production, if management doesn t factor in the increased hours and materials
required to perform the task, the company may fail due to lack of supplies and ultimately burning out
their workforce. The next consideration that may factor in could be the escalation of commitment
(Bauer, 2012). This trap focuses on continuing on down the road after information reveals it may not
be the best option. Case in point, at first the employees may enjoy the increase of pay and entitlements
based on the additional hours worked. However,

Throughout Jimmy Santiago Baca s poem, So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans , the
speaker addresses controversial issues in our society. Mexicans are made out to be bad guys in our
society because they seem to be stealing jobs from Americans. Jimmy Santiago Baca s poem, So
Mexicans Are Taking Jobs from Americans , seems to be about mexicans stealing jobs away from
Americans, but is really a critique of the socioeconomic hierarchy that has been created in our society.
The speaker throughout the poem is very critical and harsh towards Americans and the idea they are
accusing Mexicans of taking their jobs. Through the title and first few stanzas the speaker creates this
idea the poem is about Mexicans taking jobs from Americans, but completely changes focus to the
bigger picture. The poem begins by saying, O Yes? do they come on horses / with rifles, and say, / Ese,

The next stanza reads, I see this, and I hear only a few people / got all the money in this world, the rest

way the few people have all this money to spend, while every other person in our society is just barely
scraping by. Those people with money are not doing anything to help the less fortunate, while the
people below them are struggling. The next stanza continues with this idea, Below that cool green sea
of money, / millions and millions of people fight to live, / ... trying to cross poverty to just have
something. (33,34,37). The speaker describes the money as a cool green sea to emphasize the
calmness of the money flow to the rich, but then tears that coolness down by saying how people under

The Industrial Leaders of the 19th Century Should be Admired for their Work
The industrial leaders, Robber Barons, of the 19th century are men who are very respected and
admired. Andrew Carnegie was a boy from Scotland who came over to this country with nothing. He
continued to save and work his way up in the industry until he had complete control over the steel
industry. John D. Rockefeller was also one who came from an ordinary home. When he saw an
opportunity, he took it, along with the risks. He came to control the oil industry. Another man that took
many opportunities to expand and grow was Cornelius Vanderbilt. These men saw what they needed

He sold the company to J. P. Morgan, for which he personally received $250 million of the $492
million Morgan paid for it. He supported and began many corporations and institutions. Many positive
establishments were created only because of his generous donations. To this day many people are still
benefiting from the large Carnegie fortune. Cornelius Vanderbilt was the most powerful railroad
baron. He earned a fortune for himself in the steamship line. He also combined the New York and
Harlem and New York and Hudson estate ferry boat operations. He established a connection between
New York and Albany to make Lake Shore and Michigan Southern link Buffalo with Chicago. When
he died he owned and operated nearly 4500 miles of track between New York City and most of the
important cities in the Midwest. He left his fortune to his son, unlike the others he did not donate to
many organizations. The only contribution he gave was to support the, now, Vanderbilt College.
John D. Rockefeller also started at humble beginnings. By taking risks and investing he found himself
engulfed in the rapidly expanding oil industry. Not yet in the business directly he started his own
company, The Standard Oil Company of Cleveland. Rockefeller s stake in the oil industry increased as
the industry itself expanded caused by the rapidly spreading use of kerosene. The Standard Oil

Although the amount of smokers has consistently decreased in recent years (Agaku, King, Dube,
2014), smoking remains a significant and complex health issue in the United States. Both government
and non governmental agencies have invested significant resources in various media campaigns
addressing the risks of tobacco use, with mixed results. Many campaigns appear to have been
designed without the benefit of scientific insight into how individuals mentally process and respond to
media. The ideas posited here are designed to contribute insight into how producers can meet the

Professional Ethics
Introduction
Professional ethics are the standards set by people in their professions. By setting standards in the
form of professional ethics, people in their professions work together to uphold their positions and
reputations. An organization expects theirs employees to represent them ethically as they are part of
the organization. Policies are another type of standards or code of ethics set by the organization and
everyone who is part of it is expected to constitute them. Professional ethics is also defined as what
professional choose to do when they face a problem at work that involves a moral issue. . These ethics
turn out to be the guiding principles for to make an individual well disciplined and highly successful
in his personal life which may include all of his family, friends, acquaintances, relatives etc. These are
the specific set of moral principles that help a certain individual or an organization to develop their
attitude and behavioural aspects that are most probably likeable by others.

The price of the snacks will be adjusted time to time based on the price of the raw material in the
industry. Due to the implementation of GST in Malaysia, the price of some raw material is increased.
This has forced Sin Thai Guan Company to increase the price of their products too.

Police And False Confessions Case Study
Police Tactics and False Confessions
In recent years, there have been multiple high profile cases of people being exonerated, often by DNA
testing, after giving a false confession to a crime they did not commit. People who often fall into this
trap are juveniles or those with a diminished mental capacity (Redlich, 2009). DNA testing has helped
many innocent people that gave false confessions be free again. This trend brings up the question of
how were they able to give a false confession.
Using the example of the case of Damon Thibodaux, he was taken for questioning after a girl who
they were last seen with went missing. She was found strangled and naked (Leo, 2008). A homicide
officer took over the case, and Thibodaux was interrogated for several hours. Although Thibodaux
repeatedly said he knew nothing about the murder, the interrogation kept going, eventually the officer
was able to record a statement from Thibodaux pleading guilty of consensual and non consensual sex
with the victim, beating, and assassinating her. Thibodaux was condemned to death, and was to spend
fifteen years on death row and sixteen years in jail before DNA examination confirmed that he was not
guilty (Kassin, 2013). Thibodauxs exoneration proceeding concluded that fatigue and exhaustion from

German Us Boat Characteristics
German U Boats
U boats is an abbreviation for unterseeboat, which is German for submarine. U boats were heavily
used in both world wars by the Germans to devastating effect, sinking numerous merchant and naval
allied ships during the world wars. This effect was limited when the enigma code was cracked by the
allies and the U boats could be easily tracked.
Figure 1. The schematics for a German type VII C U boat, the most heavily used U boat by the
Germans during World War II.
There were many different types of U boats, each with different specifications. Later in the war U
boats were made for specific purposes, for example the Type VIID was designed for minelaying and
the Type VIIF was made for storing and using torpedoes. The type VIIF has the capacity to hold 41
torpedoes, over double the capacity of any other U boat. 1
The most common U boat used in World War Two was the Type VIIC, with 577 built, 489 more than
the second most build U boat, the Type VIIC 41. The Type VIIC 41 was very similar to the original
Type VIIC but had a crush depth of 50 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main staging ground for the U boats was in the Atlantic Ocean between America and Great
Britain from the beginning of World War Two until May 1943. The battle in the Atlantic started when
a U 30 sunk an American passenger liner called Athenia. Hitler had planned for the U boats to fight in
the Atlantic anyway but wasn t prepared for the U boats to start so early in the war. He planned for
250 U boats to fight but only had 57, and only 27 that were able to travel away from the coast. U boats
were a terrifying force for the allies as they had no way to properly defend them early in the war. U
boats mainly sunk American allied merchant conveys during World War Two which stopped supplies
reaching the British allied forces. The main weaponry the U Boats used to sink the merchant conveys
were torpedoes.

Amortization And Impairment Of Goodwill
Amortization Versus Impairment of Goodwill:
Impact on Accounting Quality, Financial Statements Economic Value, Investors, and Auditors
Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) replaced all U.S. financial accounting standards in July
2009. Consequently, ASC 350, Intangibles Goodwill and Other, replaced SFAS 142, Goodwill and
Other Intangible Assets in September 2011. Under ASC 350, goodwill must be periodically tested for
impairment. Goodwill impairment is determined through a two step process outlined in ASC 350.
However, in January 2014, an update to ASC 350 was released, which authorized an alternative
method of accounting for goodwill servicing private companies that could consequently reduce their
costs and simplify their accounting methods. Additionally, the international standard for goodwill
impairment, IFRS 3, specifically mandates that companies must annually test goodwill for
impairment. The specifics of the impairment test are entailed in IAS 36 Impairment of Assets, the
international standard for accounting for goodwill associated with business combinations. This paper
will analyze the effects of the accounting policies enacted under these standards and in particular
analyze the efficiency of impairment testing methods versus amortization of goodwill and the
connection of impairment methods with managerial and CEO compensation and earnings
management. Finally, this paper will analyze if impairment testing under ASC 350 and IAS 36 or
amortization, which is

Homeschooling In School
Home schooling has become one of the most popular ways of learning in recent years. What is
homeschooling? Homeschooling is the way to teach the children at home by their parents instead of
sending them to a public or private school. Homeschooling represents an additional choice for parents
to teach their children by themselves. The number of homeschooled children has increased over time.
It has increased from 0 to 2 million students (Institute of Education Science, 2013). Families have
various reasons for homeschooling, including concerns about the school environment and
dissatisfaction with the academic instruction at a traditional school (NCES,2008). Also, research
shows that homeschooled children achieve higher academic scores than students ... Show more

In addition, homeschooling let parents reassured that their children are safe. Parents do not have to be
worried about their children every day when they go to their school and when they back to home
because their children are in their sights. Many parents seek a safer environment for children and
youth, because of physical violence, drugs and alcohol, psychological abuse, and improper and
unhealthy sexuality associated with institutional schools (Ray,2011). Minority families have also
identified racism in the schools as a motivator to homeschool (Mazama Lundy, 2012). The third
benefit of homeschooling is that homeschooling provides more freedom for students. Homeschooling
provides more free time for students. Students who are homeschooled, they do not have classes every
day, which they should attend, they can study anywhere and anytime they would like. In addition,
students who are homeschooled, they do not have an instructor who gives them instructions and orders
which the students should follow these instructions even if they are not convinced by it, or if they do

Essay on Theoretical Analysis of Restoration Liability...
I. Theoretical Analysis of Restoration Liability Accounting
Firms in the extractive industry usually follow a general pattern of evaluation exploration,
development, production, and finally rehabilitation of the site. According to the AASB Framework, A
liability is a present obligation of the entity arising from past events, the settlement of which is
expected to result in an outflow from the entity of resources embodying economic benefits. (AASB
Framework #49a, 2004, p.22) Looking deeper than just the legal form of the mining asset, the
economic benefit from the land in such a scenario where the asset (mining site) is leased or bought
would flow to the entity rather than its legal owner. Hence, the liabilities corresponding with the ...

The mining industry however, operates with an underlying obligation towards restoring the site to its
original condition. This obligation could be legal (in the form of a law) or implicit (company policy or
industry standard).
If we apply the above clarification regarding an obligation to this scenario, it can be concluded that the
mining company should gain an obligation for rehabilitation the moment it has control over the site
with the intention of conducting operations there that would affect its original state. Once the
company begins actual activity at the site during the development or production phase, this obligation
becomes present as it is a reasonable assumption that the company will face restoration costs in the
future since the site has been affected.
Analysing the recognition criteria for a liability in AASB Framework no. 83, we can reasonably
conclude that there is a very high probability that future economic benefits will flow from the entity
towards the restoration costs. As soon as the production begins, the restoration process will need to be
undertaken at the end of the economic life of the asset. Also, the restoration liability can be reasonably
estimated with reliability by analysing the historical and area specific measurements. Hence, since the
restoration

Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo Bay sits on what was once called Oriente Province. Located on the southeast corner of
the island country of Cuba. Oriente Province has since been divided into five distinct provinces, Las
Tunas, Holguin, Granma, Santiago de Cuba, and Guantanamo. Guantanamo Bay is situated in the belt
of the Caribbean trade winds; it receives sea breezes from the southeast during the afternoons, and
shortly after sunset, the wind changes to a northerly direction and becomes a land breeze. The constant
breezes help to keep the bay cooler than most semi arid deserts. However, the mountains that surround
the bay to the west, north, and east shelter it from cloud systems, thus producing less precipitation and
maintaining the lands aridity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still to this day the Marines and Cuba s Frontier Brigade still man the fence line 24 hours a day.
During the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 1962 to December 1962 family members of the service
people were evacuated to the U.S. as President Kennedy announced the presence of Soviet missiles in
Cuba. In 1964 Fidel Castro cut off the water supply to the base, in retaliation of some Cuban
fishermen getting fined for fishing in Florida waters. So water had to be shipped in to the base. Fidel
Castro accused the United States, of stealing water. So base commander John D. Bulkeley had a
portion of the supply pipe excavated and an 18 inch portion of the pipe was cut and removed, to prove
that water was not being stolen from Cuba. The hole was never filled in and the pipe is still exposed,
at the northeastern corner of the base, where the Marines sleep when they are on the fence line duty.
Since the water was shut off, Guantanamo Bay has been self sufficient, and produces 3.4 million
gallons of water daily at its desalination plant and more than 800,000 kilowatt hours of electricity

Necessity in O Brein s The Things they Carried Essay
RR The Things They Carried
What s More Important?
Necessity can usually be described as something or someone that is needed. However, this word has
different meanings and is based solely on what the individual requires for his or her survival. These
needs may increase or become distorted as he or she finds themselves in a life or death situation such
as war. Circumstances may also provoke an average person to become emotionally distressed and thus
the desire to hold on to all that he can. Despite the fact that these necessary items or ideas that he
clings to may impair the person, abandoning them may seem impossible. This is the case in Tim O

Cross carries because they symbolize all he has left behind and hopes to someday return to.
Additionally, the letters he receives from Martha are light in weight, only ten ounce, (315) but prove
to be a heavy burden.
However, Lt. Cross fails to realize his responsibility is not in keeping his photographs and letters safe,
but in leading his men safely. Because of his delusional dreams of Martha, he is unable to prevent the
death of Ted Lavender. In dealing with such a guilt and regret, Lt Cross is forced to give up the one
thing he loved more than anything, more than his men, (318) his beloved Martha. He forces himself to
burn everything that was Martha, her pictures, the letters, and pebble she sent, because she belonged
to another world, which was not quite real...because he realized she did not love him and never would

By burning his special things of Martha, Lt. Cross is able to break free from the fantasy world and
return to the role he was trained to do. He was now determined to perform his duties firmly and
without negligence (327). With Lavender s death in mind, he becomes aware of immediate dangers
that may arise and begins to impose strict field discipline (327) to prevent death. Lt Cross reminded

Disadvantages Of Lesbian Art
To group a subsection of artists under the umbrella term lesbian artists , is to do them and their art a
disservice. Lesbian artists are just as varied in their work as any other group of artists. Possibly it is
just easier for people to have labels so as to easily identify what they like or dislike. It seems as though
for some, it has been a selling point or marketing tool, for better or worse. According to Sadie Lee in
her essay for Outlooks, This means there exists a certain amount of tokenism where if someone were
in need of a lesbian artist (for equal opportunity reasons or in an attempt to be alternative or
controversial) my chances of being selected are rather good. She continues on to say that had she been
viewed on her skills as an artist alone, and not her sexuality, she would not have been given the
opportunities for exposure that she has had (Lee 124). So, is it imperative that we give a definitive
label to it? No, but Harmony Hammond puts it eloquently when she states, I like to think of lesbian art
as a braid with three strands, gender, sexuality, and art, though from time to time other strands, such as
history or identity are woven in and out...a flexible rope of incredible strength and beauty (Hammond
10). Although it defies singular definition lesbian art is as fluid and dynamic as the groups it tries to
encompass: women, lesbians, feminists, dykes, bisexuals, gender queer, and so on. While the term
lesbian art is relatively new, it is a product of

A New Day Of A New Year s Day
New Year s Day/ New Year s Eve Happy New Year Everyone! As we go into 2018, we look to new
horizons and opportunities. The best time to start a new beginning is now. Here in the U.S. we pop the
champagne and watch the ball drop; whereas, in England, the first guest after the New Year brings
good fortune. The English custom for welcoming New Year is full of hospitality and warmth. They
believe that the first guest for the year would bring fortune for them. He should be a male, should
enter through the front door and bear some traditional gifts like loaf for the kitchen, drink for the head
of the family and coal to light the fire, otherwise, he is not allowed. They believe that these bring good
luck throughout the year. Martyr s Day Panama Today is a day of grieving for our fellow co workers

of the U.S. embassy in Panama City, widespread looting, and dozens of deaths. Most importantly, this

1903 treaty and is commonly remembered as the beginning of the end of American hegemony over the

The Struggle for Power and Authority
The development and use of power and authority are two of the basic concepts that indwell mankind.
The two novels Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies both have main characters that uniquely manifest
these attributes. Napoleon and Jack approach discipline in a dictorial manner by using intimidation,
propaganda and fear while Snowball and Ralph apply a more democratic method when dealing with
the animals. Napoleon and Snowball have different techniques and values on how leadership in life
should be conducted. This is also true in Lord of the Flies in the conflict between Ralph and Jack.

No animal shall kill any other animals 7. All animals are equal (Orwell, pg 17) Abuse is frequently
present throughout history, as George Orwell the author of Animal Farm illustrates in his dystopian
allegorical story. It mimics the social structure of life in the communist era when Joseph Stalin ruled
the USSR with an iron fist. Joseph Stalin, a communist leader, ruled Russia with an iron fist from
1933 until his death in 1953. He cared more about his power than he did about human life. During
Stalin s reign, 12 million Russians lost their lives. Many were murdered by government forces; many
died from starvation and overwork. (George Orwell fights the power) Therefore this is why Orwell
understood that it was not leading to equality for all. At the beginning of the novel one of the
characters is directly modeled on the Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin. His name is Napoleon and
becomes known as an utterly corrupt opportunist. Napoleon did not make a distinct contribution to the
revolution not to the formulation of its ideology, not to the bloody struggle that it necessitates, or even
not to the new society s initial attempts to establish itself. He under no circumstances shows any
interest in the strength of the farm but, simply the strength of his supremacy over it. As a result, the

Physical Abuse Essay
Life is complex and there is still an abundance of knowledge we have yet to gather about it. We know
where it originated and what has evolved from it. From the knowledge we gather about the world
around us, we can develop a sense of self and who we are as a person. As soon as we know who we
are, we then begin to acknowledge that there are people around us that we relate closely to by blood or
by choice; family. Our family can be the people we eat with around the dinner table or the people who
remain by our side through the hardships and the good times. The feelings we encompass for these
people around us may be everlasting love, but it can also be animosity. We can appreciate these people
and all they do for us, or despise their every being. As a result of the hatred we may embody toward
someone, we may act out. Maybe by using verbal abuse, and maybe with physical abuse. Some of the
best ways to help children cope with the mental and physical abuse from their childhood would be to
encourage them to discuss the events and assure them it was not their fault, recognize the self
destructive ways they act out as a result and provide support, and inspire them to get more involved in
their school and community, all of which will contribute to them moving past their trauma and easing
back into reality and a better future.

The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement
On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul Hall
on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The Operation
of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in order to
disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that the
students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of the
University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of the
designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in
protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza.
These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savio and seven other students. In an
incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the President of
the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students. However, Kerr shot down
the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM and the administration increased
over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order
to put pressure on the administration to grant them their terms on the return of free speech areas. On
December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio delivered his speech. The most memorable lines
were as follows: There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so
sick at heart, that you can t take part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your
bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to
make it stop! And you ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless
you re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). The appeal to pathos in this
passage, and throughout the whole speech, is Savio s referring to himself and the other students as part
of a machine that they don t intend to be a part of. They are treated unfairly by the administration, the
machine , and are

Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity
Today s society is infatuated with the thought of being fit and skinny. Although eating healthy and
balanced sounds ideal for most Americans, this can be more difficult than it seems. Because of the
number of families living in poverty, eating a nutritious and balanced diet is a tremendous challenge.
Healthy foods generally cost more than cheaper, processed foods. Families attempting to make the
most of their scarce amount of money will try to stretch their dollar and purchase large quantities of
food, disregarding the nutritional value. Many studies show the correlation between obesity and other
health issues, with a family s financial status. Although there are now several ways for today s society

Otherwise known as Food Stamps, this program was aimed towards those battling food insecurity or
hunger, and to assist them in purchasing food. This program has in fact helped to alleviate these
problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity?
Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps have been
found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high consumption
immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising, as when food is
plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified for this program are
essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family members in their home.
The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly enough to provide a healthy diet
by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30 percent of food stamp recipients would
spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if they received cash instead of stamps.
Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items, this can limit the families spending
power. When given their monthly allotment of food stamps, the family will stock up on the
inexpensive, unhealthy food, because it lasts the longest. When living under these circumstances, the
individual doesn t have a choice to be particular with the items they

happened in the sixteenth century of Europe, a conflict began over religious ideologies. Europe s Wars

The ideas that Luther gave to the populace, broke the society and people began to undermine
authority. A great example of that would be one of the first conflicts of the religious wars, the peasants
revolt. The ideologies were reaching the monarchs and they were converting to Protestantism for
personal gain, not for religious values. Supporting the movement, was perfect for them because they
finally have some control over the church officials. The king of Sweden was one of the first who
converted, he declared that the Lutheranism is the official religion of his country. This caused Charles
V the Holy Roman Emperor to give the converted Lutherans an ultimatum, return to the Catholic faith
or there will be dire consequences. This resulted in a military alliance called the Schmalkaldic League.
The Holy Roman emperor ended up defeating the league, Catholic France ended up coming to the

Cost Production and Types of Cost
Generally, the term cost of production refers to the money expenses incurred in the production of a
commodity. But money expenses are not the only expenses incurred on the production of a
commodity. There are number of services and inputs such as entrepreneurship, land, capital etc.,
which are offered by an entrepreneur without changing any price or receiving any payment for them.
While computing the total cost of production, allowance should be made for such expenses. It is
therefore essential to have clean understanding for the different types of cost:

explicit costs like payment of rent, wages, salaries, interest, transport charges, etc., fall in the category
of out of pocket costs.
12. Book Costs : are those business costs which do not involve any cash payments but for them a

better. Along with his narrative, Bowling uses contrast to support his opinion in such a way that
balances the old traditions with the new nuances of the game. For example, Bowling draws on some
parallels of one of the newest superstars in the league, Sidney Crosby, to unequivocally the greatest
player of the game Wayne Gretzky: Sidney Crosby is expected to challenge the scoring statistics of
Gretzky one day (239). Bowling continues to use contrast comparing the years it takes to master
skating with the simple fundamentals of running, jumping, and catching (239); basic skills used in
baseball, basketball and football. His view is that hockey players are the most skilled athletes in the
world and other athletes pale in comparison. Furthermore, he adds to this contrast by stating if you can
t skate, you can t even take to the playing surface. (239); this description compliments the demands,
skill, grace and beauty of the game of

A Narrative Of The Captivity By Mrs. Mary Rowlandson
We all believe in good and evil, that through this belief becomes our morals as humans. However,
during this early American period it s known that the colonial people in Massachusetts had their
beliefs set on the puritan way of life and living. Furthermore, these colonial people who settled in the
Massachusetts Bay colony didn t expect there life to be disrupted through attacks taken place.
Through the experience of one woman, A Narrative of the Captivity by Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, an
American colonial women, accurately depicts historical record of the attacks made of the King Philips
war and her being held for ransom eleven weeks in its descriptions of the brutalities and godliness
which sets the tone between what is truth and what is contradictory in the eyes of Rowlandson and the
native Americans. Moreover, through this war fueled battle the colonial people felt as if their colony
was disrupted and attacked. Not to mention, how the natives felt, particularly the Wampanoag tribe.
The natives had been kind to share half of their land while the English were killing their crops. This
drove the Natives mad and through this they were labeled as savages by the English people.
Subsequently, this brings Rowlandson to invite readers in through her memoir of her captivity.
However, Rowlandson faith is strong through her captivity. She views God as being a great God and
the natives as barbaric, heathens, enemies, and many other slanderous name calling. This however,

Deep Sea Cephalopod Research Paper
It s something straight out of a cartoon, and it lives in the deepest parts of the ocean. The creature is so
adorable that scientists are considering naming it Opistoteuthis adorabilis. It floats along without a
care in the world, and uses its unusually large eyes to find its way around, and some say to steal your
heart as well. The deep sea cephalopod is garnering quite a bit of attention, and according to Dr.
Stephanie Bush, of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the name is being considered because they are really
cute. A Monumentous Task This small creature requires extraordinary effort to keep it alive in
captivity. The researchers who are studying the creature have discovered certain peculiarities about the
octopus, such as an inability to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It doesn t move very quickly, and it requires cold ocean waters to stay alive. To find one of your own,
you would have to sail deep into the Pacific Ocean and dive to a 200 to 600 meter depth. The
temperature at these levels is only 6 degrees Celsius, or about 42 degrees Fahrenheit. The Right to a
Name These cephalopods have been studied and collected since 1990, but it s only now that
researchers are considering naming them. Before a name can be given to a new creature, the entire
structure must be analyzed to determine whether they are dealing with a new species or simply a
related one. If it s a new species, the information is published in a scientific journal. What scientists do
know is that the species belongs to the Opistotheuthis genus. This is an octopus species known for
their smallish, condensed shape and webbed limbs. Can I Keep It? If you re wondering whether you
can adopt one of these creatures and keep it for your own, the answer is no. Since they have extremely
fragile bodies, and don t do well in less then perfect condition, you would need to have an advanced
degree in marine biology and lots of time to successfully keep one alive in captivity. Still, you can find
out more about these creatures at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research

Economic Chaos And Confusion Following The American...
The combination of economic chaos and confusion following the American Revolution with the
virtually nonexistent economic powers of the federal government under the Articles of Confederation
put US in a very poor economic position upon the arrival of the Constitution (American Pageant 161).
This, however, changed under the Constitution and thus during the administration of Washington as
the federal government could now have a large say in the economics of America. After being put into
office, Washington established a cabinet and assigned Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding
fathers, to be the Secretary of Treasury. Knowing that debt and the growing interest rates were a very
large domestic problem, Hamilton set out to create a plan for a strong economy. He first implemented
tariffs, which are taxes on foreign goods coming into the country, into his plan, hoping that it would
stimulate manufacturing within the country (Chernow 163). Although this did succeed in stimulating
industry within America, it also angered many Americans in the south and west because they did not
manufacture many goods, but were rather mainly consumers and merchants who were those being
taxed the most (Chernow 153).
Another component of Hamilton s plan for economic aid was the federal assumption of state debt,
which caused many mixed sentiments between the states. On one hand, the states that owed a large
sum of money were very happy as they did not need to pay the debt anymore, at least to the

3d Printing In Archaeology
Will 3D printing revolutionize our understanding of archaeology? 3D printing is a captivating
advancement of technology that has profuse uses. Different from all the previous manufacturing
methods, 3D printing generates a product in an additive mode to form an intricate three dimensional
object, and therefore has the ability to produce the most complicated irregular object. This unique
characteristic deems it highly impactful for archaeology, where the structures of historical human
forms and the tools they used are often very complicated and unique, and there are currently no simple
means to reproduce and study them. Clearly, 3D printing and scanning has many useful benefits to
archaeology, and there is definitely room for improvement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

First of all, plastic is the main material in most printers, and this material biodegrades EXTREMELY
slowly: 450 to 1,000 years! This would create a serious environmental problem if objects were
discarded and thrown into landfills, especially because technology is bound to become cheaper, and
this will lead to more people owning personal 3D printers. Another worrying aspect is the fact that
guns and other weapons can be 3D printed with ease, though it would take quite a long time. Already
some people own their own 3D printer, and the numbers are sure to rise in the following decades. It
will be quite difficult to keep tabs on the printers, causing a dangerous issue. Of course, if the trouble
increases, it is always possible for the government to set a law stating that only individuals with a
license can own 3D printers. The difficulties don t end there, though. Consider this dilemma. If every
single human in the world owned a personal 3D printer and scanner, what would happen to
businesses? If there was a product someone took interest in, they could simply print it at home without
spending any money! In archaeology, complications arise as well. In order to print larger artifacts, you
need a substantially larger 3D printer. If you were to replicate a house, a relatively sizable printer
would be required, along with a large stock of plastic and a printer larger than a house. This also
means that the cost of

Reading is a great way for students to engage in cultural experiences from their own background, history, values and customs (Blake, 2015) Educators need to understand the importance of multicultural education and provide opportunities for their students to learn about different cultures (Chittom, 2015). The literature should spark children s imaginations and provide a basis for questions and conversations. (Meade, 2015). More specifically, the words we use change the way we perceive the world around us. This theory, known as linguistic relativism, gives us a way of analyzing the motivations and worldviews of characters in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn through the way they discuss the problems presented to them. Characters In William Shakespeare s Hamlet As A Tragic Hero In the play Hamlet , Shakespeare dramatises the revenge found within Prince Hamlet when he is greeted upon by his father s ghost who calls for him to avenge his death. Throughout the play you come to find that Hamlet s uncle is the one that killed his father, in order to steal the fair maiden and the throne . With these occurrences happening in Hamlet s life he is known as a tragic hero. It takes three things to be considered a Tragic Hero: Being from Noble Blood, has a tragic flaw, and experiences a downfall. Hamlet begins with noble intentions whenever he introduced to a new conflict, throughout the play his never ending peril and conflicts reign over him until his death. Sadly, Hamlet died before he could see any of the outcomes from his actions. In Shakespeare s Hamlet the leading character, Hamlet faces three turning points that caused him to ultimately be named a Tragic hero: the death of his father, the impeccable use of his words, and his ability to fake his madness to get a confession from his uncle, which ultimately ended with his demise. • 21. Police And False Confessions Case Study Police Tactics and False Confessions In recent years, there have been multiple high profile cases of people being exonerated, often by DNA testing, after giving a false confession to a crime they did not commit. People who often fall into this trap are juveniles or those with a diminished mental capacity (Redlich, 2009). DNA testing has helped many innocent people that gave false confessions be free again. This trend brings up the question of how were they able to give a false confession. Using the example of the case of Damon Thibodaux, he was taken for questioning after a girl who they were last seen with went missing. She was found strangled and naked (Leo, 2008). A homicide officer took over the case, and Thibodaux was interrogated for several hours. Although Thibodaux repeatedly said he knew nothing about the murder, the interrogation kept going, eventually the officer was able to record a statement from Thibodaux pleading guilty of consensual and non consensual sex with the victim, beating, and assassinating her. Thibodaux was condemned to death, and was to spend fifteen years on death row and sixteen years in jail before DNA examination confirmed that he was not guilty (Kassin, 2013). Thibodauxs exoneration proceeding concluded that fatigue and exhaustion from the overnight search for the girl, the long interrogation, psychological vulnerability, and fear of the death penalty led to the false confession by Thibodaux (Leo, 2008). Homeschooling represents an additional choice for parents to teach their children by themselves. The number of homeschooled children has increased over time. It has increased from 0 to 2 million students (Institute of Education Science, 2013). Families have various reasons for homeschooling, including concerns about the school environment and dissatisfaction with the academic instruction at a traditional school (NCES,2008). Minority families have also identified racism in the schools as a motivator to homeschool (Mazama Lundy, 2012). The third benefit of homeschooling is that homeschooling provides more freedom for students. Homeschooling provides more free time for students. Students who are homeschooled, they do not have classes every day, which they should attend, they can study anywhere and anytime they would like. • 25. Essay on Theoretical Analysis of Restoration Liability... I. Theoretical Analysis of Restoration Liability Accounting Firms in the extractive industry usually follow a general pattern of evaluation exploration, development, production, and finally rehabilitation of the site. According to the AASB Framework, A liability is a present obligation of the entity arising from past events, the settlement of which is expected to result in an outflow from the entity of resources embodying economic benefits. (AASB Framework #49a, 2004, p.22) Looking deeper than just the legal form of the mining asset, the economic benefit from the land in such a scenario where the asset (mining site) is leased or bought would flow to the entity rather than its legal owner. Hence, the liabilities corresponding with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The mining industry however, operates with an underlying obligation towards restoring the site to its original condition. This obligation could be legal (in the form of a law) or implicit (company policy or industry standard). If we apply the above clarification regarding an obligation to this scenario, it can be concluded that the mining company should gain an obligation for rehabilitation the moment it has control over the site with the intention of conducting operations there that would affect its original state. Once the company begins actual activity at the site during the development or production phase, this obligation becomes present as it is a reasonable assumption that the company will face restoration costs in the future since the site has been affected. Analysing the recognition criteria for a liability in AASB Framework no. 83, we can reasonably conclude that there is a very high probability that future economic benefits will flow from the entity towards the restoration costs. As soon as the production begins, the restoration process will need to be undertaken at the end of the economic life of the asset. Also, the restoration liability can be reasonably estimated with reliability by analysing the historical and area specific measurements. Hence, since the restoration ... However, this word has different meanings and is based solely on what the individual requires for his or her survival. Circumstances may also provoke an average person to become emotionally distressed and thus the desire to hold on to all that he can. • 28. Disadvantages Of Lesbian Art To group a subsection of artists under the umbrella term lesbian artists , is to do them and their art a disservice. Lesbian artists are just as varied in their work as any other group of artists. Possibly it is just easier for people to have labels so as to easily identify what they like or dislike. It seems as though for some, it has been a selling point or marketing tool, for better or worse. According to Sadie Lee in her essay for Outlooks, This means there exists a certain amount of tokenism where if someone were in need of a lesbian artist (for equal opportunity reasons or in an attempt to be alternative or controversial) my chances of being selected are rather good. She continues on to say that had she been viewed on her skills as an artist alone, and not her sexuality, she would not have been given the opportunities for exposure that she has had (Lee 124). So, is it imperative that we give a definitive label to it? No, but Harmony Hammond puts it eloquently when she states, I like to think of lesbian art as a braid with three strands, gender, sexuality, and art, though from time to time other strands, such as history or identity are woven in and out...a flexible rope of incredible strength and beauty (Hammond 10). Joseph Stalin, a communist leader, ruled Russia with an iron fist from 1933 until his death in 1953. He cared more about his power than he did about human life. From the knowledge we gather about the world around us, we can develop a sense of self and who we are as a person. As soon as we know who we are, we then begin to acknowledge that there are people around us that we relate closely to by blood or by choice; family. Our family can be the people we eat with around the dinner table or the people who remain by our side through the hardships and the good times. The feelings we encompass for these people around us may be everlasting love, but it can also be animosity. We can appreciate these people and all they do for us, or despise their every being. As a result of the hatred we may embody toward someone, we may act out. Maybe by using verbal abuse, and maybe with physical abuse. Some of the best ways to help children cope with the mental and physical abuse from their childhood would be to encourage them to discuss the events and assure them it was not their fault, recognize the self destructive ways they act out as a result and provide support, and inspire them to get more involved in their school and community, all of which will contribute to them moving past their trauma and easing back into reality and a better future. • 33. The Argumensos Of Mario Savio s Free Speech Movement On December 2nd, 1964, Mario Savio delivered his most famous speech on the steps of Sproul Hall on the campus of UC Berkeley. His address, most famously known for it s passage on The Operation of the Machine , called university students and TAs to participate in civil disobedience in order to disrupt parts of the university s functioning. This effort was to show the administration that the students were autonomous human beings, and not raw material to be bought by some client of the University. The conflict between the administration and the students began with the banning of the designated free speech area on campus. Students began to move closer to the heart of campus in protest, setting up tables for organizations like FSM (the Free Speech Movement) in Sproul Plaza. These actions resulted in the indefinite suspensions of Mario Savio and seven other students. In an incident in which student protesters surrounded a police car and gave speeches atop it, the President of the university, Clark Kerr, began negotiations with Savio and the students. However, Kerr shot down the FSM s proposal for a committee, and tensions between the FSM and the administration increased over the next month. FSM began to have rallies on the steps of Sproul Hall every day at noon in order to put pressure on the administration to grant them their terms on the return of free speech areas. On December 2nd at one of these rallies, Mario Savio delivered his speech. The most memorable lines were as follows: There is a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can t take part; you can t even passively take part, and you ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus and you ve got to make it stop! And you ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all! (2). Otherwise known as Food Stamps, this program was aimed towards those battling food insecurity or hunger, and to assist them in purchasing food. This program has in fact helped to alleviate these problems, but has resulted in another extreme: obesity. The article Do Food Stamps Cause Obesity? Evidence From Immigrant Experience explains that monthly vouchers of food stamps have been found to affect quantity and frequency of food consumption, with periods of high consumption immediately following voucher receipt (Kaushal, 4). I find this to be unsurprising, as when food is plentiful and readily available, splurging seems likely. Citizens that are qualified for this program are essentially provided a sum of money in correlation to the number of family members in their home. The money provided is enough to counteract hunger, but not nearly enough to provide a healthy diet by any means. The article also provides that between 20 to 30 percent of food stamp recipients would spend less on food than their food stamp benefit amount if they received cash instead of stamps. Because the food stamp is only exchangeable for food items, this can limit the families spending power. After being put into office, Washington established a cabinet and assigned Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers, to be the Secretary of Treasury. Knowing that debt and the growing interest rates were a very large domestic problem, Hamilton set out to create a plan for a strong economy. He first implemented tariffs, which are taxes on foreign goods coming into the country, into his plan, hoping that it would stimulate manufacturing within the country (Chernow 163). Although this did succeed in stimulating industry within America, it also angered many Americans in the south and west because they did not manufacture many goods, but were rather mainly consumers and merchants who were those being taxed the most (Chernow 153). Another component of Hamilton s plan for economic aid was the federal assumption of state debt, which caused many mixed sentiments between the states. On one hand, the states that owed a large sum of money were very happy as they did not need to pay the debt anymore, at least to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. 3d Printing In Archaeology Will 3D printing revolutionize our understanding of archaeology? 3D printing is a captivating advancement of technology that has profuse uses. Different from all the previous manufacturing methods, 3D printing generates a product in an additive mode to form an intricate three dimensional object, and therefore has the ability to produce the most complicated irregular object. This unique characteristic deems it highly impactful for archaeology, where the structures of historical human forms and the tools they used are often very complicated and unique, and there are currently no simple means to reproduce and study them. Clearly, 3D printing and scanning has many useful benefits to archaeology, and there is definitely room for improvement. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, plastic is the main material in most printers, and this material biodegrades EXTREMELY slowly: 450 to 1,000 years! This would create a serious environmental problem if objects were discarded and thrown into landfills, especially because technology is bound to become cheaper, and this will lead to more people owning personal 3D printers. Another worrying aspect is the fact that guns and other weapons can be 3D printed with ease, though it would take quite a long time. Already some people own their own 3D printer, and the numbers are sure to rise in the following decades. It will be quite difficult to keep tabs on the printers, causing a dangerous issue. Of course, if the trouble increases, it is always possible for the government to set a law stating that only individuals with a license can own 3D printers. The difficulties don t end there, though. Consider this dilemma. If every single human in the world owned a personal 3D printer and scanner, what would happen to businesses? If there was a product someone took interest in, they could simply print it at home without spending any money! In archaeology, complications arise as well. In order to print larger artifacts, you need a substantially larger 3D printer. If you were to replicate a house, a relatively sizable printer would be required, along with a large stock of plastic and a printer larger than a house. This also means that the cost of ...
