The document summarizes the results of a questionnaire given to the target audience for an action movie opening sequence. It analyzes the responses in two questionnaires, with the second being more specific to an opening sequence. Key findings include both males and females generally finding action movies exciting. Introduction of characters and getting to know the storyline were most preferred for the opening. A majority expected stereotypical characters like heroes, villains, and teams. While some preferred a chase scene to hook viewers, others felt character introduction didn't confuse the storyline. The analysis will help inform creation of the opening sequence to appeal to audience preferences and expectations.
The reason I have made a cinema survey is to find out more about my target audience in order to produce a film and trailer that is most suited to them.
For our A2 media project we have took research from our questionnaires to ask the public what they think about the film industry, our film proposal and more.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. QUESTIONNAIRE ANALYSIS
We created a questionnaire in which the questions were to find out about our target audience in more
detail. This is so that we are able to create the sequence with knowledge of what the target market
likes by keeping up with the trends in what they would like to see in an action opening sequence.
We made sure that we asked many people in different age ranges so that we are able to see how we
could apply our ideas to theirs. We also asked an equal amount of females to males to see if there is
a gender difference in preferences.

What are your opinions of an action movie?
We decided to ask the target audience what their views were upon the action genre. This is so that
we are able to get an idea of different people (preferences and expectations) in the target audience.
This will then help us to create a sequence in which it will appeal to all segments of the market. We
decided to group the answers into 3 categories of ‘exciting’, ‘average’ and ‘boring’.

3. From this graph, we are able to see clearly that there is a gender divide in the opinions of the action
genre. The male population generally prefers the action genre than female. However, the majority of
the answers that we received, suggests that the action genre is exciting to the audience.
#2 What do you expect to happen (typical conventions) in an action movie?
We decided to ask this question because it’ll help us to see the latest trends in what the target
audience expects of an action movie. This will help us to develop onto the next stage of planning as it
will give is vague ideas of what to include in our opening sequence.
#2

Dramatic Music

Mystery
Baddies and Goodies
Chases/Running Around
The following results show exactly how many times each of the words have been mentioned in its age category.
4. These results give us a clear indication of what the target audience expects in an action movie. We
can see that dramatic music plays an important role in this genre. We will use this information and
develop our own ideas based on these results.
#3What would you like to see/what is your favourite part(s) in an action movie?
With this question, we are able to find out specifically what the target audience prefer. It will help us to
acknowledge their preferences for us to expand upon when creating the opening sequence, such as
adding conventions that may please them.
We then categorised them into 4 groups and resulted them by the amount of times it was mentioned.

However, when analysing the answers for this questionnaire, we found that the answers we
received were quite limited in quantitative data and the information received wasn’t specific
to creating an opening sequence, as the questions asked were about a movie as a whole.
So we decided to create another questionnaire asking different people to find in depth
answers to help us to progress onto the next stage of planning.

8. QUESTIONNAIRE ANALYSIS 2
When creating the second questionnaire, we had to take note of what type of questions we
needed to ask in order to help us develop our ideas. One main factor that we concentrated
on, was to ask questions that will help us in creating an opening sequence. We found that
the questions we asked in the first questionnaire gave us ideas of ‘what the storyline should
be throughout’, rather than ‘what will happen in the opening sequence’ – which we will be
creating.
We asked an equal amount of males to females within a wide range of age differences.
These were the results:

9. 2//What do you expect to happen in the opening sequence (the very beginning of a movie –
which tends to last around 2 minutes) of an action movie (typical conventions)?
We changed this question slightly from the first questionnaire. This is so that the question is
asking them specifically about the opening sequence rather than asking them non-directly –
which gave us answers that weren’t specific to what we needed in the first questionnaire. We
expanded upon this question in more detail so that they understood the question better to
gain more specific answers.

This suggests to us that the target audience in our questionnaire has expectations of a
typical action movie to include the introduction of characters in the opening sequence. This
information will be acknowledged in the next process of planning.
3//What would you like to see in the opening sequence of an action movie and why?
This is a quantitative question in hope for answers that will give us a more specific path to
what the target audience prefers. Rather than asking them what they expect, we wanted to
see their opinions of what they wanted in which we could acknowledge and possibly expand
upon during the process of filming and editing.

We can see that a majority of the answers received suggests that an introduction of the
characters and getting to know the storyline line is something that they prefer the most in an
action movie.
4//What are your stereotypical characters that you expect in an action movie?
This question is to expand upon what the target audience feel upon us creating this opening
sequence. By asking them what stereotypical characters they prefer, we can yet again
acknowledge their preferences and create an opening sequence that appeals to them.

5//What do you prefer in an opening sequence:
a) a chase scene as soon as the movie begins
b) getting to know the characters first
- why?
Once again, this question is led on from the previous question. However, from the first set of
answers gained from the first questionnaire, we had a vague idea of what the target
audience wanted. So we decided to pick the two most highly ranked options and made it a
question in this questionnaire to gain specific choices.
#5
Option A
Option B
15. Along with this question, we received their opinion to why they chose their answer. These were the
results upon both options:
Opinions made upon answer A (chase scene):
-
because its exciting and it hooks you in
-
its straightforward (to the storyline)
Opinions made upon answer B (introduction of characters):
-
it doesn’t confuse the audience to what is happening
-
it helps to develop the movie
