3. How Did Your Production
Skills Develop Throughout This
Project?
Software
I used a variety of different software throughout
this project:
Adobe After
Effects CC 2014
Adobe Premiere
Pro CC 2014
Adobe Bridge CC
2014
Adobe Photoshop
CC 2014
GarageBand Apple Quicktime Player
Hardware
I use a variety of different hardware items for my
project as well:
iMac Magic Mouse
Keyboard
Macbook Pro
Panasonic AG-
HMC153MC
Software and Hardware
From the previous slides you can see that I used a variety of different
programmes to create my posters, website and trailers.
Though the products are similar, they all used different softwares (the same
hardware) to create. I was surprised with the amount of work and the different
skills required to create such products.
The posters used Apple, Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 as well as Adobe Bridge
CC 2014.
My trailers were created using Adobe Photoshop CC 2014, Adobe Premiere Pro
CC 2014, Adobe After Effects CC 2014, Quicktime Player and GarageBand.
My website used Safari on www.wix.com
Technical Difficulties
Aside from creating a trailer, the different software used to create
posters and my website were ones I have not encountered
before.
Therefore, there were a lot of problems I faced.
Photoshop was a software that I often found difficult, trying to
understand the layer system as well as discovering what all the
tools do.
Also using wix.com, this was another website I had to take time to
familiarise myself with the different settings.
Technical Difficulties
However, I managed to overcome these
difficulties and became very proud of my
posters. In particular, I am really proud of
my official poster because I used a lot of
different tools and accuracy to be able to
accurately depict my idea.
In terms of my trailer I am very proud of
teaser trailer from 0:55 seconds to 1:01
seconds. This is because I used effects
from Premiere Pro that I have never used
before and put a lot of effort to make my
character scary and possessed at the
same time. I also used a new technique
that created a disorientated effect.
Improvement
For my website, I felt the
website I used to create it was a
bit too basic. Therefore, it made
my website look a bit more
simple and gave me limitations
in terms of style. Perhaps, if I
was to re-do my website, I
would look for a more advance
programme to make it look
more personal and unique.
Pre-liminary Exercises
The hardest part of the pre-liminary exercises for trailers were the
sequences. Using the same original sequence and editing it in different
ways to fit different genres was difficult.
This is because since each genre has a set of codes and conventions
which define them, the original sequence did not fit the different
conventions to fit the intended genre. Therefore it was very challenging
and required you to rely on your editing skills to fit the conventions.
Overall the other preliminary exercises were very interesting because a
lot of them were about acquiring new skills and exploring what I would
like to use or not use for my final products.
Pre-liminary Exercises
Aside from my genre sequences, I have happy with how my
other pre-liminary tasks have turned out.
It allowed me the opportunity to explore and showcase my skills
as well as find out what I like and what I can see being used in
my final production.
However, my genre sequences were not very differentiated and
basic in terms of editing. I feel as though I did not challenge my
editing skills enough by altering the different sequences around
and using more effects to fit the conventions of genres.
Final Project
In terms of filming, in comparison to my pre-liminary tasks, I felt
that I explored more in terms of different angles.
From 0:55 seconds, in my teaser trailer, I decided to use canted
angles. Initially I was concerned about the fact that canted
angles would affect the professional look of my trailers.
However, after filming with that angle, I discovered I was wrong.
The angles added dimension and variety elements to my trailer.
Especially when it is used with another clip on top, it created a
very disorientating effect.
Overall
I think that I have learnt many new skills and
techniques in creating a production package.
I learnt about several advanced softwares
used in the professional industry and explored
the different effects and how all the small
details add towards the final image.
