2. RESEARCH AND PLANNING
The Research that I did early on made the
production of my product a lot easier. It allowed
for me, for example, to choose both costume and
camera shots easier as well as making them more
effective. The research had the same effect across
the board of my elements. Also with the media
course my time management has improved
massively not just in media but in all my subjects.
This is because of the time management needed
to produce a professional looking piece.
5. SHOT COMPOSITION
COMPARISON
My Prelim task allowed me to see which shots
worked and which did not. I used this knowledge
during my final piece in order to use the best
shots possible. I used a variety of shots in my
final piece instead of repeating a few over and
over again like I did in my prelim. I used a lot
more of my shot frame in my piece positioning
characters to the sides instead of having them
center frame like in my prelim.
6. HOLDING A STEADY SHOT
In my prelim I used a tripod for the majority of my
shots however you could tell when I was doing
hand held shots. I feel that this shakiness was
reduced significantly during my final piece. This is
because I used a tripod a lot more and practiced
keeping my hand steady when film. I feel however
sometimes there was a slight shakiness during
the zooming out elements of my product.
7. LIGHTING
In my prelim there was only the lighting in the
class room we filmed in available. Therefore I
decided to focus on lighting for the filming of my
final product. I used the natural lighting available
outside to give a realistic feel however I used the
specialist lighting in the photography room to give
a more uneasy feel to those scenes.
8. LOCATIONS
In my prelim there was only 1 available location,
the classroom, this gave an amateur feel and
reduced the quality of the product. I therefore
concentrated a great deal on the locations I used. I
used the pathway for the framing it gave with the
fence and road and I used the Photography room
as it allowed me to use the lighting and gave a feel
on unease to the audience.
9. ACTORS
In my Prelim I was only able to choose actors in
the class room this meant that my two actors had
no previous acting experience which showed in
the quality element. In my final piece I was able to
choose my own actor who I knew was an
experienced actor. I feel that this led to a massive
improvement in the acting quality of my piece.
10. CREDITS
In my prelim I did not use any credits, this was
due to time constraints. However credits are an
important part of the mark scheme I therefore
decided to make them an important part of my
final product. I spent many hour laboring over
finding the perfect font for my piece and I think
this work has paid off overall as my piece looks
more professional than my prelim.
11. SOUND
As I have discussed multiple times throughout the
production of my final piece Sound is an
important part for me. In my prelim the dialogue
had bad sound quality and the background noise
overwhelmed the action. I therefore made the very
conscious decision to have no diegetic dialogue
instead opting for a backing track with a
voiceover. This meant I could improve both the
sound quality and focus instead on the action. I
feel that this has made my final piece better than
my prelim and shows a development of skill.
12. OVERALL
Overall I feel that my final piece is a vast
improvement on my prelim. This is because my
skills have developed allowing me to be more
adventurous with ideas. Looking back at my
prelim I can already see that I learnt from the
mistakes I made back then by improving the ideas
I made them in significantly. I also Feel that I have
learnt how to make a professional looking piece
due to the quality of my piece compared to the
amateur quality of my prelim.
